    To clarify something that a lot of people seem to misinterpret, Warp travel is still possible without the Emperor and the Astronimicon. Warp travel is facilitated by a so-called 'Warp drive' that tears open the fabric of reality in a controlled manner so that ships may enter and leave the Warp at will. However, without the Emperor and the Astronomicon it is even more unreliable and dangerous than it already is because the Warp does not obey the laws of physics as we understand them, so you can overshoot or undershoot your target by lightyears, and in some instances literal years; there are many documented cases of Imperial ships arriving at their destination instantaneously or thousands of years behind schedule, or even arriving at their destination so far ahead of schedule that they go back in time to where the ship itself hasn't even been built yet. And this crap happens WITH the Astronomicon aiding navigation, so you can only imagine how bad it would be otherwise if everyody across the galaxy was flying blind.

      Plus, what you experience while inside the warp may not properly reflect the material time.
      So that instantaneous travel? For everyone _inside_ the ship, it's been thousands of years. Or on the flipside, it'll feel like a few seconds have passed, then you come out and it's been hundreds of years.
      Warp Travel is unreliable and dangerous in the worst way possible. The Imperium would literally gain a significant powerboost if they just have a safe and consistent way to achieve FTL. Everything could stay the same, but just that one factor would bump their threat level a whole bunch. That is the testament to how powerful the Imperium is, and how awful Warp Travel is.

      To add to that: Without Navigators (and by extension without the Emperor helping the Navigators get their bearing in the Warp) most ships can at best do little "hops" of a few lightyears of distance before they have to transition back to the Materium to re-orient themselves and do the next hop.
      Their ship cogitator banks (think thinking-machines but not AI as that is HERESY so you can guess what is -actually- in those) can try to calculate jumps like that but beyond like 4LY it gets Exceedingly dangerous and unreliable. Meanwhile With the Emperor and Navigators you can feasably travel from one end of the Milky Way to the other... or ofc Never Return at all.

    You can be corrupted without you knowing or you can unintentionally aid someone who isn't innocent....and Inquisitors can't take any chances with you. Keep in mind that rebellions in the Imperium are common and they escalate often into very violent territory.

    A thing the Adeptus Custodes do to "pass the time" beside their duty in guarding the Emperor is something called "Blood Games": to test their defences against invaders, assassins ect. a random Custodian would leave the Imperial Palace and spends days, weeks or even months of planning before enacting a mock assassination attempt. 'Warhammer' generally denotes the entire franchise, but most people use it in referrnce to their preferred setting.
    Warhammer Fantsasy is the OG medieval fantasy setting, created by Games Workshop back in the day to try and cash in with a bootleg version of Lord of the Rings. Eventually, Warhammer Fantasy became its own thing, but the influence of Tolkien's work is still very much present. Warhammer Fantasy was eventually reimagined as a high-fantasy setting called 'Age of Sigmar' centered around the world created by the god Sigmar after a series of events called The End Times destroyed the original Warhammer Fantasy world. This has since been overturned with the recently announced reboot of Warhammer Fantasy called 'The Old World', but that's another matter. Point is, Warhammer Fantasy came first and is still around.
    Warhammer 40,000, or simply '40k' as most people prefer to call it was originally a sci-fi spinoff of Warhammer Fantasy, based on the idea of advancing the plot of Warhammer Fantasy by some 40,000 years into the future where all of the Fantasy races had discovered space travel and expaded into the wider universe. Games Workshop slowly changed this so that 40k, rather than being a hypothetical continuation of Warhammer Fantasy is instead a standalone setting and franchise, detailing a grimdark version of our own universe set thousands of years into the future, with the 41st Millennium of the year 40,000 AD onwards being the primary focus, although the 40k timeline also extends over 65 million years into the past and also fixates on the events of the events surrounding the Horus Heresy circa 30,000 AD, hence why it is unofficially called '30k' by the fanbase, and the events leading up to it, namely the Golden Age of Technology and subsequent Dark Age of Technology, as well as the Unification Wars, the Emperor's campaign to unite all of Earth under his banner following the Dark Age of Technology, and the Great Crusade, wherein the Emperor formally established the Imperium of Man and set out to re-unify the disparate colonies of humanity throughout the galaxy and recovering his 20 Primarch sons, who had been scattered across the galaxy by the diabolical machinations and Warp fuckery of the Chaos Gods. The first of these Primarchs to be recovered, Horus Lupercal, became the Emperor's favored son, was eventually named Warmaster of the Imperium with authority second only to the Emperor himself, and eventually fell to the machinations of Chaos and waged the decade-long Imperial civil war called the Horus Heresy which has left the Imperium scrambling to get its shit in order for 10,000 years now that the Emperor is on life-support and cannot rule directly anymore and struggles to communicate with anyone beyond vague psychic visions and messages.

    It can be very expensive to play professionally. Tournaments and models, paint and time, competitive army building and collecting.
    But!
    Poorhammer 40k exists.
    I started with painted popsicle sticks, paper towels rolls and tissue boxes for terrain set up on my kitchen floor.
    Buy the game books and start there. Now over the years, you collect a model here and there. Maybe the faction you like gets a new unit or an update and you can treat yourself. Over time, your army grows. As mine did.
    Be it public or on your own, watch the rest. Time worth while.

    Its not mentioned in this video but adeptus custodes are often actually like poets, philosophers, artists, etc etc. The emperor made the custodians first before the astartes and primarchs. The emperor was very closed off to even his own sons but he would often ask his custodes for council and advice during the few times he didn't have an exact answer to a problem. Also yea the custodes can go against the inquisition as other comments say but other factions within the imperium can push back a bit (to an extent) mostly just the space marine chapters. And many of the space marines don't view the emperor as a god while others do. A lot of the core chapters tend to not be as religious while more of the newer chapter's are. For the most part the imperium believe the emperor is a god but there are some gray areas besides the adeptus mechanicus

      if im not mistaken there are 3 timelines with the custodes, space marines and thunderwarriors from different books... all three of which are still considered cannon
      one book suggests that the custodes came first but they were slow to produce during the unification so big E made the thunderwarriors which were cheap but also much lower quality and once he had the resources and time he made the spacemarines which where the perfect middleground between quality and quantity
      another book suggests it was thunderwarriors then custodes, then space marines
      and the last one suggests thunderwarriors then spacemarines and custodes
      such things can happen with 20 different writers

  • @Staccet
    @Staccet 8 місяців тому +40

    You are correct assuming that inqusition can't command the Adeptus Custodes. Only the Emperor can command them and only he has any authority over them. A custodian could just walk to a inquisitor and lop their head off and offer no explanation.
    Even the current regent of the Imperium, one of emperor's sons, can't command or judge them.
    Channel Baldermort's guide to Warhammer has a really good video on them. His video start and/or end with really good fanfiction stories he writes. And you bet he has an amazing low voice that caresses your ears.
    There is a 6 min introductory video and 1 hour long in depth video. Both are great.
    Bricky said they are special but it really needs to hammered down how special. The primarchs, Emperor's sons, were expendaple tools. Of course the custodes are tools too but they know this and they are privy to his thoughts and plans more so than the primarchs.

      i wouldnt say the primarchs where EXPENDABLE tools, and i mean in general thats the issue with blacklibrary, if you have 20 people writing the books bringing in their own views and opinions its gonna be a mess, we have quotes from gulliman saying things like "in the end it was allways us who called you father, and never you who called us sons" but then in several books he does call them his sons etc, so depending on book/author the emperor saw them as tools or as his actuall sons i would argue that he probably did create them as tools but still viewed them as his sons, and as i said, just because something/someone is a tool doesnt mean they are expendable, powerfull tools are some of the most vallueable assets and imo it clearly shows that, as most of the primarchs had a clear purpose AFTER the crusade with guilliman being not just a warrior but also a statesman and politician, fulgrim wouldve been an artist inspiring the citisens of the imperium, rogal would be in charge of fortification and building up the entire imperium

      It mostly shows up between the Inquisition and other sub-factions, because their whole job is sticking their noses where people don't want them to and no one likes that. Not going to disagree that there's been more then a few Inquisitors who have been high on their own farts and just didn't realize that they were holding the shorter stick, but they're supposed to poke and prod authority to make sure that they're not corrupt, and _no one_ is more suspicious of an Inquisitor then another Inquisitor.

    The Eversor is sadly a bit mistold by Bricky. Here a bit of correction.
    Yes they are HEAVILY psychologically and mentally conditioned, but not Clockwork Orange style.
    They have extremely hightened aggression, but they can focus it on their intended target.
    Imagine these assassins like a completely overclocked PC. Their bodies, minds and nervoussystems operate on levels that are ludicrous speeds, even compared to a Spacemarine. After these former "humans" are completely converted to Eversors, they HAVE to be cryoed, because their bodies would stop functioning after just some weeks, to I think 2 or 3 months at the really hard maximum.
    So they are dropped as near as possible to their target, get their target(s) mentally imprinted on the drop and take the fastest and bloodiest way imaginable to their target and after completion (and hopefully surviving) take the fastest way to their cryo, to be frozen again. Think of it as, the shorter the time they are unfrozen, the more uses you get out of one of those assassins.
    An Eversor is one of the most bloody and loud messages you can get, if the Imperium is definitely not pleased with your existense. They definitely don't actively kill friendly troops (normally included in their mental imprint) but they will definitely go literally through you if you are in their path or could slow them down in any way.
    I one time read a short "report" of an Eversor who used up all his weapons on reaching the target and then making a complete bloodbath of the targets family and all household by using their silverware like spoons and stuff.

    My favorite faction is the Mechanicus so I feel it is my duty to tell you how cool and well thought out they are
    Mars was the first world ever colonized by humanity far before the Horus heresy. It was terraformed into a fully habitable planet comparable to earth, but for complicated reasons, a huge nuclear war broke out transforming Mars back into a red planet. As the mars colonists took refuge underground from the now deadly surface, they had total reliance on life support machines, oxygen recyclers, industrial farms, stuff like that. Spending centuries underground and disconnected from earth, the engineers responsible for maintaining the machines keeping everyone alive became elevated to religious status like priests, and the machines became akin to saviors. Over the centuries the repair manuals for their machines became slowly corrupted with rituals. In the “modern day” Mechanicus, many of their rituals do serve actual purposes such as lubricating or properly cleaning or activating a machine, but there is a bunch of pointless rituals mixed in, and no one is brave enough to attempt to repair a machine without the proper rituals, lest it breaks, never to be repaired as the knowledge to repair it has been lost long ago. Most of the most powerful ships and vehicles in the imperium are irreplaceable. The Mechanicus would sacrifice millions of soldiers before they let something like an Ark Mechanicus be destroyed. (they are basically giant self sufficient warships combined with factories that are so sacred that they don’t even really know all the inner workings. At least one Ark Mechanicus has an STC hidden inside of it, and the Mechanicus have spent their entire existence searching for an STC, ironically using Ark Mechanicus warships to do so. A working STC contains endless blueprints from humanities golden age and would probably allow humanity to easily crush all its enemies, but because of their paranoia they will probably never look deep enough into their machines to ever find it.)

    I'll try to explain the Tabletop a little bit: You and your friend have your respective armies. Each Unit (oder Character Model) does have a certain point cost. You agree to battle at a specific point cost (1000 points for each army is mostly the minimum). You look in your specific rulebooks, what army you could play with the amount of points, you are playing and make an army list with the units, you want to play and if you play really fair, both of you send the other one the army list, so that you could make a strategy to defeat the other one.
    When you meet, you prepare the table with terrain and after that, some strategic points are set, that you must hold until the end of the game.
    The game itself mostly lasts 5 rounds and every round is parted into specific underparts. Movement, firing with ranged weapons, attack phase, close combat and after dealing with losses, the unit with the most losses have to do a battleshock test, to see, if it flees from a fight.
    Every single unit has a stat block in which is written, what movement range the unit has, how good it is at using ranged or close combat weapons and a moral value. The higher the stat, the better the unit is.
    The game is played with 6 sided dices, which you might know from family games like monopoly.
    At the end of the game, you calculate, how much strategic points you've captured and the one with the most captured wins the game.

    The guard and Mechanicus both have females inside them that operate in the front lines.
    In the Mechanicus it can sometimes be hard for even normal people in universe to tell of a person was once male or female sometimes due to the number of augmentation they undergo.
    Note not all go as far as and can be quite identifiable from their still human features or voices or… other parts alone.
    However, those in the Skitarii (the Titan legion defence forces primarily and tho also the fighting militant of the Mechanicus when needed) are much deeper into the teachings and following of the Mechanicus so do usually bear so many augmentations it’s almost impossible to tell outside of small things like if they still have a somewhat human voice or if their physic matches more to one the broader strokes of male and female lines.
    As for the guard I believe it’s noted to be a 80-20 % split between male and female regiments tho there are a number of mixed ones; tho the guard do prefer to avoid this to both ease logistics - as both males and females do require different things even if the guard do most of the time fall into “1 size fits all” mentality - tho also to avoid the other thing when you put lots of male and females together on extended deployments in mass transport ships with little to do or even after engagements with people having lots of spare “energy” that needs to be blown off; plus throw in that it does lead to lots of internal relationships within the regiment from bottom to top which can lead to internal strife and deeper hits of morale shock when certain people die.
    So yeah they try to avoid such things tho it’s not always possible.
    One thing bricky also skipped over with the guard is how they are formed.
    Yes they are all recruited from the same home planet and given a new number designation (or an old one of a destroyed heroic regiment in attempt to rebuild its glory and name and boost morale in both troop and civilian);
    However, for the vast majority of worlds outside of a very very trusted few, each regiment is never a combined arms force, but only every a single element.
    I.e. they can either be an infantry regiment, mechanised regiment, armoured regiment, drop trooper regiment, artillery regiment, etc etc.
    This was done after the Horus Heresy when the guard was actually called the Imperial Army and was fully combined arms, however after thousands of regiments turned traitor with Horus, the Imperium didn’t wish the idea of facing a mass uprising like that again. So each regiment created could only consists of one element of the puzzle.
    This meant that if say an infantry regiment rebelled, the guard would just bring an artillery regiment, a mechanised regiment and a armoured regiment together from three different places to destroy that single infantry one easily.
    It also means of say an armoured regiment goes traitor, they can easily pull together a couple artillery regiments and anti-armour based regiment to hit them hard.
    Same with an artillery regiment going traitor, just get a drop trooper regiment and you can easily counter them.
    It’s completely designed so that if a unit rebels it doesn’t have that combined arms ability to easily resit while the imperium can easily group together several different regiments of several different types to fight alongside one another to defeat those rouge elements.

    Nice!
    Btw, this factions introduction is a bit skewed towards tabletop, in a sense that he introduces factions mostly as armies. In lore, which is massive, books and video-game implementations situations may vary. E.g. reading Wh40k books, sisters of silence rather appear on pages in small numbers or even just one, in an Inquisitor's team. Or how Grey Knights were presented in Dawn of War 1: Dark Crusade (rts) - only one end-game elite squad of Space Marines faction.
    On another note - yeah, going into minis is not really worth it. For those who interested in Warhammer 40000 there is a plenty of books, or lore reads on wikis/thematic sites, and of course video-games. Video-games include such genres as:
    rts of various scales e.g. Dow1, Dow2, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada (battles in wh40k happen not only on the grounds of various planets, but also in the sea of stars! Ship designs are epic!);
    fps, such as Necromunda: Hired Gun;
    tps, such as Space Marine and upcoming Space Marine 2;
    turn-based tactics, such as Mechanicus(2018) or Armageddon(2014)
    whatever genre that game adaptation of a book about Inquisitor Eisenhorn was
    and even just rpg (a bit similar to bg3) - upcoming Rogue Trader.

    Admittedly he's one of the more extreme inquisitors out there, but still.
    By the way, a sorta playable faction Bricky technically missed is the Militarum Tempestus, which is understandable as they're usually played in support of the Imperial Guard and Navy (or even directly part of it in some cases). They're basically Special operations Command of the Imperial Administration independent of the Imperial Guard and Imperial Navy branches. Their recruits are also taken from the Schola Progenium and they're responsible for primarily:
    Stormtroopers - or at least Stormtroopers that aren't tied to the Imperial Guard for more specialized missions they can't call Space Marines into for whatever reason
    and
    Commissars - Political, legal, martial and often religious leaders given an advisory role in the Imperial Guard and Navy, there to enforce discipline and morale, and act as a liaison to other imperial forces or between different Imperial guard forces as they can't be politically fucked with the way regular army officers can. These guys have the authority to relieve military officers, execute men and officers and even requisition local resources and temporarily take command of entire planets' defense forces if necessary.
    A few commissars also hold formal military ranks such as Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt and some more senior ones even command enough respect to "order" Space Marines around.

    32:26 "I'm pretty sure they don't know how any of their things work" - the Ad Mech do actually know how the tech works, for the most part, they just interpret it as being part of the necessary steps to appease the machine spirit. For example, suppose you're driving your 2011 Civic, and when you hit the brakes you hear a grinding sound. You take it to the AdMechs; they explain to you that you've neglected the Rituals of Maintenance, and the machine spirit is angry. They will then recite the Litany of Getting It On The Lift while they move your vehicle onto the car lift. Then they'll anoint it with holy oils, recite the Prayer of Taking A Look, and examine the brake pads. Then they'll chant the Canticle of Unscrewing while they remove the bolts on the wheel. Annoint the tyre with holy oils, burn some incense, chant the Psalm of Lubrication because the pins on the brake pads are rusty. They'll remove the old brake pads and ensure they receive a proper holy burial...you get the idea. At the end, they'll hand you a beautifully illuminated and illustrated invoice while chanting the Prayer of Price Gouging.
    They know how the technology works in great detail, but they perceive the necessary mechanical work to be just another part of the holy ritual that appeases the machine spirit.

One of them for example will say 'If the Machine Spirit is not co-operating you must press the sacred button marked 'Restart' down for the count of five... and then chant the litany of peace (Which will take... oh exactly 60 seconds) then press the button again...

    Random bits of lore:
    One of the Emperor's acts when uniting all humans under a common banner was that he eradicated all religion on Earth, he saw it as superstitious nonsense holding humanity back from it's true potential. This is why his now being worshipped as a god is so poetic - he has been turned into the thing that he most hated, and his united humanity has fallen into ritual, superstition and stagnation.
    In 40k most technology is not understood why is partly why the Adeptus Mechanicus rely on ritual, prayer and half-understood memory. This is because most of the stuff from the Dark Age of Technology no longer works or was lost and "new tech" is mostly old Dark Age stuff rediscovered by the Ad-Mech in forgotten ruins.
    Innovation is actively discouraged, partly because of ritual and dogma, partly because it is actually too risky. Remember all of those myths from history where writing a demon's true name would summon them? Well in 40k demons are real. Imagine designing a bit of electronics and the circuit board accidentally spells out a demons name. You die, everyone in your workshop dies, potentially that death opens up a portal, perhaps your city, continent or planet dies...just because you wanted to design a more efficient vacuum cleaner.
    Part of the reason for the Adepta Sororitas being entirely women is a minor bit trickery and game-playing. To avoid the Ecclesiarchy (the church of the Emperor) having too much power they were forbidden from having any "men under arms" so they formed an army of women.

    Yeah, the closest to "good" you get in the Imperium is some random, halfway chill planet that happens to have a tradition of regional democracies and might get to elect their governor-for-life. They exist... barely. Oh, and the Tau's Farsight Enclaves are genuinely nice. The actual Tau Empire is basically doing some combination of Space China and Covenant things from Halo, and their unofficial motto is something along the lines of "Join us and be assimilated, or eat plasma".
    Several people also bothered to run the numbers on just how many Imperial Guardsmen there are and the numbers go well into the tens of trillions. The Adepta Sororitas has ~150-200 million all-female, power-armored shock troops all by itself, Planetary Defense Force numbers are just ridiculous compared to the Guard (with quality absolutely all over the place, this is where the Guard recruits from, taking the top 10% or so of PDF), and there are "only" a million or so Space Marines.

  • @seraphinaaizen6278
    @seraphinaaizen6278 6 місяців тому +1

    The inquisition have more "power" than the custodes, in a sense. Because the Custodes aren't part of the Imperial hierarchy. A Custodes couldn't just commandeer an Imperial Guard legion, but an Inquisitor could. However, the Custodes also answer to NOBODY. An Inquisitor who tried to take a Custodes into their custody would have a really bad time. The Custodes are the only people in the entire Imperium who are totally unaccountable to the Inquisition, or anyone else. They answer to their own commander and to the Emperor. Nobody else.
    Inquisitors can even command Space Marines. Although an Inquisitor would be playing a very dangerous game if they did, because the Space Marines might just decide to do away with them when nobody is looking. Imperial Guardsmen generally wouldn't have the nerve (usually), but there are exceptions.
    There's a novel where an Inquisitor decides that Saint Celestine is a witch and tries to assassinate her. And he's forced to use psychic powers to control the guardsmen into helping him, because they're more keen to fight to protect her than they are to follow the Inquisitor. Because she's essentially a Messiah figure in the Imperial religion, even though the Inquisitor is technically within his rights. To use an analogy, it's like the Secret Service turning and ordering a bunch of Christians to help them arrest Jesus.

    - Nobody is having fun. Life and existence are miserable, terrifying, and oftentimes short and violent.
    - The Emperor Protects
    - The Orks are the only people having fun. That thing I said before? Lies. Orks are having a blast. And that is everyone else's problem.
    - Warhammer is not serious. It is very knowingly written to be as dark and depressing as possible, yet there are still funny characters within the universe. Probably the two most notable are Trazyn the Infinite and Ciaphas Cain, Hero of the Imperium. They're both hilarious.

  • @SSD_Penumbra

    The best thing about 40k is just the sheer over-the-top-ness of it. One of my favorite pieces of lore is about one of the sects of the Sisters of Battle called the Order of the Bloody Rose. Rather than act like nuns, which they are, their leader wrote the tenants of the order in her own blood after killing *thousands* of orcs. After the battle, the sisters found St Mina holding the tenants on her hands, thousands of dead orcs at her feet, her boltgun was still smoking and the chainsword she was using was clogged with Ork bits. She died *standing up*
    The Bloody Rose sisters are melee focused on the tabletop, and their tenants include literally screaming their hyms like a death metal band. They get so mad, that they cry blood and cause warp storms whereever they go. They're so fucking cool.

    The Total War Warhammer franchise is awesome if you want to try a RTS game that includes most of the races of Warhammer Fantasy. It's quite different to 40K as it's a pure fantasy setting, but some things cross over. Mostly the Chaos Gods are the exact same and represents the same things. (And Chaos Gods factions of demons are playable too in TWWH3)
    For more "pure 40K" games, Darktide is great, it totally gets the atmosphere of the Imperium. It's left4dead, but warhammer 40k.

Basic rules can be downloaded and basic rules for your miniatures are in the assembly guide of the combat patrol. Something to measure in inch everyone should have at home. That is enough to get into the game. If you like it you can expand, if not, you wasted some money, or can sell your stuff to someone else.

Warhammer Fantasy and its sequel, Age of Sigmar, take place in a separate fictional universe whereas Warhammer 40K takes place in a fictional future of our own universe. They share many elements, notably the Chaos Gods and some mortal races, but they are their own separate thing. Think of it like Final Fantasy, where every main entry has Chocobos, Moogles, Ifrit etc. but they are separate stories in separate settings.
    Fun seeing someone actually react to the Pale King joke with more than a "huh?" for once, lol.
    Most factions in Warhammer are mixed gender, with the exception being Custodes and Space Marines being exclusively men, and Sisters of Silence and Sisters of Battle being exclusively women. There's a huge debate whether female Space Marines should be introduced because they are the faction that is advertised everywhere to encourage more women to join the hobby, but you really don't want to get into that. There's a lot of toxicity on both extremes of that argument.
    I enjoyed the video. I hope you will watch Part 2, as I am a Chaos girl through and through.

    40k lore is an ocean. It is very, veeeeeeeeeeery easy to drown in it if you're not careful.

    I've expressed this sentiment on Bricky's actual video but I have no interest in playing or partaking in Warhammer. That being said, the lore is absolutely rad and awesome and I love Bricky's videos explaining the worldbuilding for the uninitiated.

      Understandable. I feel the same way when it comes to the league of legends lore.

    Small correction, without Astronomicon you can still warp travel but you better keep to the shore line and not go for deep ocean voyage.
    Astonomicon allows Imperium to be as large as it is because it allows RELATIVELY fast response from the larger governing body when a part of it is thretened. Without Astronomicon what would take a week would take a year to make sure you are not lost in the warp etc.

      So it's sort of like a compass that guides the way, rather than the ship itself?

    Fantasy is the original Warhammer, yes. 40k came about almost a gag, as in asking yourself what the fantasy world might eventually become in 40k years.
    Needless to say, it was so popular that when people think Warhammer, they think 40k, Space Marines, Tyranids, or Blood for the Blood God, Skulls for the skull throne.

    Funny you mention the Orks being incredibly OP. In lore, yes, they are. And now on the tabletop they just got new rules and holy moly they are great. It’s a good time to be green.
    Let me put it this way, usually when new rules are put out these days, you’ll get one good detachment or army build for an faction out of 6. Orks just straight up got 6 really good ones.

    There isn't any official 'what if's' but there is at least one well written fan fiction what if scenario of a universe where the 9 loyalist legions/primarchs and the 9 traitor legions/primarchs were swapped.

    it's always funny and hearthwarming when someone discorver 40k, always make me smile
    about the imperial guards, "how do they survive ?", simple, they don't
