Just gonna drop this here: The green giant wanting to "pet this creature"-scene is from probably the best wh40k parodies ever made, "If The Emperor Had a Text-to-speech-device" made by Alfabusa. It's a long series and GW forced them to leave it unfinished with some legal shenanigans a few years ago. I highly recommend it though, the parody part aside, it does explain a lot of the lore ABOUT as accurately as possible in a 'verse as complex and obfuscated as wh40k.

    Fun fact about each legion
Dark angels: a couple of dark angels assassinated (ambushed) a custodian in fear of them knowing about the fallen.
Emperor's children: fulgrim is such a great fan of theater that he roleplayes his origin story on his daemon world with kidnapped civilians which he would then butcher when bored.
Iron warriors: they play warhammer 40k the tabletop and videogames as "simulation training"
White scars: jagatai khan once got so angry, he killed a ork WAAAGH so fast the orks reatreated in fear.
Space wolves: space wolves is acually a miss translation to low gothic. Their preffered name is the Vlka Fenryka or the rout.
Imperial fists: the two only space marines to have the title lord commander of the imperium were both imperial fists. One of which founded Deathwatch.
Night lords: despite being the most evil legion BEFORE they went traitors they had the least civilian casualties of all the legions. Thous making them ironicly the most ethical legion in the great crusade.
Blood angels: one of the trials to become a blood angel is to be sealed within a coffin filled with blood for a long time.
Iron hands: they pioneered terminator tactics and even has a men of iron left from the golden age of mankind (they just say they're dreadnoughts).
World eaters: they have a special troop called the eight born which is a world eater possesed by 8 daemons of khorne. Sometimes the space marine can overpowered the daemons and take control back and become a exalted eightborn.
Ultramarines: they are stuck in over a 10 000 year old battle with the word bearers because they are to spiteful to call it quits.
Death guard: some plauge marines have their own house on a daemon world with a garden and a beasts of nurgle as pets.
Thousand sons: their first captain ahriman acually had a retirement plan after to great crusade which was to make wine.
Luna wolves: one time to elite guard for horus were playing the ancient game of "which one of us can jump and reach the door frame"
Salamander: their first captain once beat the chapter master of the marines malevolent to the ground for ignoring civilian casualties.

@@theemissary1433 What smoke you cracking bro? The Emperor did nothing wrong with the sacking of Monarchia. Yes, he did a LOT if wrong that led to the Heresy, but Monarchia was not one of them.
Lorgar had his faith completely shattered in that event, and it was what the Emperor intended for his atheistic government. He was on his way of reforming and actually become a better Primarch... but the ONLY thing the Emperor did not do in that scenario, was to put a bolter-round in the head of Kor Phaeron, and another in the head of Erebus, who proceeded to manipulate Lorgar into the worship of Chaos.
Burning down Monarchia was not the Emperor's mistake, for it had the intended purpose and effect. His only mistake was not realizing the manipulative assholes literally GLUED to his sides would capitalise on Lorgar's eviscerated faith and fragile ego, and he did nothing about it.

@@freudlindell6343 Ah yes, Monarchia, the Emperor's brutal moment to tell Lorgar to stop his god-worship.... even though for the past many years, he never even said anything remotely against it. (I may be wrong on this, please correct me if I do). Monarchia was so brutal, even Guiliman was against it at first, if I recall correctly.
The Emperor removing religion was one of the most flawed decisions he ever made in my opinion. He should have capitalised on Lorgar's faith, would have made the 17th Legion one of the most loyal legions to the Imperium. After all, faith helps to unite the hearts of Man and now in the 41st Millenium, religion REALLY seems to help the Emperor a lot now, giving him powers and what not (again, correct me on this if Im wrong)
If he didnt want to be worshipped, fine, whatever. Then he couldve just used ANOTHER religious figure for Humanity to turn to, like Jesus Christ, to help explain why the year 40 000 is the year 40 000. A longshot, sure, but at least it would be something better than this.
Like or hate Lorgar, you can do whatever, but you cant deny he was right in what he was presenting. Faith always has a way to unite the hearts of Man. Even if you may not believe in its theological aspect, at least just look at the potential strategic aspect of it.
The Emperor is a good leader, but a horrible dad and person in general. Someone who desired Humanity's flourishing, but in bitter irony, had no humanity himself.
For the sake of what little honour I have left for my Primarch's father, I shall respect his wishes.
If the Emperor doesnt want to be seen as a god, then fine, I will no longer regard him as one.... however, the words of my brother, the Anchorite may prove true: that Monarchia was a test after all...

Another fact that makes the Night Lords a more interesting chapter is that Konrad Curze HATED his children. Any Nightlord you see with red gauntlets meant that originally they were marked for death one day at the hands of thier Primarch, whereas nowadays it marks squad leaders and night lords of high rank.
Konrad Curze also suffered from terrible psychic visions that he tried everything in his power to change, visions that showed the imperium and galaxy in flames.
But ironically everything he did merely accelerated these visions into coming true.

Don't let the color of a legion stop you, remember: it's your army and you can paint it however you want.
All the legions have various sub-chapters with sometimes wildly different color schemes, so you can also look into that if you want an alternative, or you can look at the color schemes they had in previous editions: Salamanders, for example, are now green with a brass/gold trim while once they were black and yellow striped, kinda like some newts.
As a favourite legion I would actually like to mention a sub-chapter of the Blood Angels: the Flesh Tearers.
You know how Bricky mentioned the Black Rage? For the Tearers it hits even worse, sending them into a vrutal berserker rage in the middle of the battle so violent that other Imperium faction has often set the Inquisition on them for suspecting them to be corrupted by Khorne and even the Orks prefer to flee rather than engage them.

I really like Imperial Fist and their primarch Dorn: when the Emperor handed over his legion to him, he first watched them fight without giving them orders, then proceded to go to each one of them and told them where they were lacking or what they were doing wrong; because the Space Marine resemble their primarch, every soldier took every pointer in stride and made adjustments. During this event, he straight up walked past one of them without saying a word: he became his second in comand.
Also this man is not a psyker, but he is so resolute that not only the Caos Gods don't even try to corrupt him, the warp seems to STOP in his presence.
Finally, a quote from Alpharius regarding Dorn: "He never lies... how am I supposed to trust him?"
On a side note, if you like gentle giants in 40K I recommend "Ogryn Story" by Warrior Tier and "Gav and Bob" by A Vox in the Void. Ogryn are ab-humans really big and really strong, while having the intellect and the kindness of a child.

The sad thing is: Angron should've been an Empath and able, to take pain from others. But because his slavemasters did plantet the butchers nails into him, he was a raging Berserk. If he doesn't inflict pain, he suffers and if he hadn't achieved Deamonhood, the nails would've simply killed him ultimately. His storyline is basicly the one of Spartacus, who led his fellow slaves into resistance against their Roman Slavemasters.
And for the two missing primarchs: I don't know, what GW maybe had in plans for them. But in the novels, it begins to crystallize, that the two were either killed (probably by Russ) or did something so horrible, that the Emperor wiped the memories out of the minds of the public. It is like you begin to count and you naturaly jump the 2 and the 18

Oh and the fate of Fulgrim is FAR more tragic, then Bricky just said. You see... the Fulgrim you see as Deamon Primarch, is not really Fulgrim. The Deamon within the sword, which he found at a xenos world, clouded his mind over time and making him do decisions, he normaly never would've done and manipulated his logical thinking. The climax came at Istvaan 5, where Fulgrim fought against his best friend under the Primarchs; Ferrus Manus. After he beheaded Manus, the Deamon lifted the clouds from Fulgrim's mind. Suddenly he saw clearly and when the Deamon asked him, if he wants to forget, the answer was "yes" and THAT was the moment, Fulgrim's mind was first imprisoned in his own body and later in a painting of him.

Also scary since it means all the terrible stuff they do is basically because they are all just that evil.

Peter Turbo and the Iron Warriors get done a but dirty here. Perturabo has the misfortune of always being able to see the eye of terror with his gift. The man is always staring at the warp...it's a miracle he functions as well as he does. The Iron Warriors were assigned all the worst engagements because they never complained. They would complete the shitty jobs while being snubbed by all their brother legions. Due to their tactics, where they were willing to grind the foes down with numbers, they were looked down on by the other legions, who would even snub them in the telling of battles they helped in. They received no appreciation for taking all the hardest fights and instead got sneered at. Perturabo was a genius at building, not just military, but civilian constructions. He had thousands of blueprints for beautiful buildings and was never afforded the opportunity to work on them. A single acknowledgement would probably have been enough to stop them turning against the Imperium, but alas it was not to be. Fun Fact: Before they told the Heresy to screw off, they told Dorn he sucks and come fight me bro. They then proceeded to dismantle the Imperial Fists and would have annihilated the entire legion if Rowboat Gorillaman had not intervened and saved Dorn and the few remaining Fists.

The Ultramarines' apparent overpowered nature is mostly in lore, rather than on the tabletop. This would be the results of the lore writings of Matt Ward (aka "Number One Ultramarine Fan"), which put them at the center stage of literally every 40k story involving Space Marines.
It should also be noted that all the Space Marine Legions in Bricky's video are "First Founding" Chapters (that is, they predate the Horus Heresy). There have been _at least_ 25 other Foundings since the Horus Heresy in which new Space Marine Chapters were created. The Black Templars (not to be confused with the Dark Templars), for example, were a Chapter from the Second Founding (31st millennium), and were considered successors to the Imperial Fists. Among the Latest is the Ultima Founding, which happened in the wake of the Fall of Cadia.

Lore and Tiny tidbits that Bricky left out.
    The Dark Angels.
Lion El Johnson actually returned just recently in the newest release. Along with the full Demon Primarch reveal of Angron.
Making Lion El Johnson just the 2nd Primarch to return(in Lore & Tabletop) for the Loyalist Side & Angron the third Demon Primarch to get a fully canon model for the Tabletop.
    2nd Legion..... yeah....
    Emperor's Children.
Fulgrim may eventually return for both the Loyalist and Corrupted sides.
See, there's an Uber F'd up Emperor's Children scientist named Fabius Bile (👀) who treatied with basically 40k's version of Loki/Collector/Terminator of a Necron named Trazyn the Infinite.
What did he trade a Necron who had everything? A fully grown and functional clone of Fulgrim before he was corrupted by Slaanesh.
So theories abound with him not only getting an official reveal for the tabletop but if some way somehow they free his clone & somehow activate it. He'll return loyal too.
Nothing much more to say about the White Scars or the Iron Warriors. Both Primarchs don't have official models or returned in Lore.
Space Wolves like the Blood Angels have a gene seed malfunction or curse that change them as well.
Basically, joining in on the Legendary Monsters Legion thing. The Blood Angels are vampiric (even though i just learned real vampires exist in 40k) while the Space Wolves slowly change into Wulfen or Werewolves.
Just like with the Bloods, the rate of change & control of the Curse or whatever differs from each individual.
Some have resisted the change for centuries while others are now chained at the bottom of the Space Wolves' stronghold or Frigates to be used as Shock Troops or Mounts. (You heard me).
With them trying their best to protect the Wulfen from the Dark Angels & Sisters of Battle, since they see them as Mutants to be cleansed & they could get the Space Wolves excommunicated.
The cannibalism thing is a all around thing all Space Marines have.
The Night Lords are the only traitor Legion that refuses to work with the Chaos Gods.
See, Conrad was like Batman, but more like the Batman Who Laughs, he again thought order came from fear, but only if you control it.
Unfortunately, his own planet, which was supposed to supply him recruits from the nobles & average citizens alike decided to the "smart" thing of sending him their condemned or insane criminals.
When Conrad found out that his Legion was re-populated by the very scum he hated he nuked his own homeworld.
Later when an Imperial Assassin is sent to kill him, he allows it to prove his point. Leaving his.. Legion.. unsupervised.... yeah.
Blood Angels actually drank blood before Sanguinius's death and he was actually gonna reveal the horrors of his & other Legions before his death.
I'm talking feeding on civilians, blood dens, etc. They acted like the actual Vampires that roam 40k.
The Iron Hands share beliefs with the Adeptus Mechanicus. Even their symbol is a Mashup of theirs and the Mechanicus. So they have a lot of Tech Marines who are from the Mechanicus planets.
World Eaters now have an official codex for Tabletop.
Ultramarines's Primarch Robute can tell the Church to go F themselves but he knows it would cause a massive civil war that they CAN'T AFFORD right now.
Both the Death Guard & Thousand Sons were fucked by other people into becoming corrupted.
Tychus sold them out by offering them in secret to Nurgle. Nurgle bestowed the Destroyer Swarm onto Tychus, turning him into the walking Hive. He then set these creatures loose on the Death Guard Flagship.
Destroyer Swarm is a pain worse then death x10, so Mortarian had no choice but to accept Papa Nurgle to save his men.
Magnus did fuck up the Emperor's attempt at making humanity their own web way, but Leamon Rust was tricked by the Word Bearers who altered the Emperor's message from capture to exterminate. Forcing Magnus into Tzeentch's arms as planned.
Sons of Horus are as explained.
The reason the Word Bearers aren't having the easiest time is because Corvus Corax, the Primarch of the Raven Guard, unlocked his true Warp powers he and his brothers got from the Emperor.
Now the terrifying love child of the Crow & Spawn, he now hunts Lorigar and his Legion throughout the Warp as they attempt to return.
Salamanders are my favorite Legion, along with sub faction Legions the Carcharodons aka the Space Sharks 🦈 & the Baraka bone bladed Black Dragons 🐉.

He is fun and a swell guy for some, like with the Emperor and some of his brothers, but a complete asshole for others, specially Magnus.
I don't remember all the specifics but at some point during the Great Crusade the Emperor called for a council regarding psykers, the Council of Nikaea, in which the Emperor basically let a bunch of idiots put restrictions on psykers, both in the Imperium in general and the legions as well. Leman was one of the vocal ones when it came to accusations because he hates psykers, even though it was also pointed out that his chapter uses psykers. My favorite legion is far and away the Alpha Legion. Spoilers for the book obviously, but the primarch Alpharius (or Omegon, basically interchangeably) was given a prophecy by a council of Xenos races - If he sided with Horus and killed the Emperor, humanity would perish very quickly, starving the Chaos Gods and killing them as well. If he sided with the Emperor, humanity would live for multiple millennia more, but would slowly rot away. Reportedly, the primarch chose to side with Horus to do what they believed the Emperor would want; destroy Chaos.
But this is the basis for the theories that Alpharius Omegon is still an ally to the Imperium, because the second part of the prophecy came true. Because they sided with the Emperor in one way or another, the Imperium is now slowly dying a terrible and delayed death.

The Night Lords have the least bodycount out of the other legions.
Most of the legions like face-to-face combat and hate "cowards", even for tactical reasons. They would gladly invade the planet, bomb it to oblivion, and massacre trillions in order to conquer them. The Night Lords will kidnap a few thousand, torture and skin them, and then stream it for the entire populace to watch...then wait as the entire planet surrenders without a fight. Sometimes, they'll just outright surrender if they even hear that the Night Lords are coming.
There was someone who made an excellent comparison between certain legions, and my paraphrasing of that goes:
Raven Guard: You don't see them, and they don't want you to know they are there.
Alpha Legion: You can see them, but you don't know they are there.
Night Lords: You don't see them, and they want you to know they are there.
World Eaters: You can see them, you know they are there, and they want you to know they are there.

5:07 To clarify - although it is often thought to be the case, the two lost chapters were NOT included so you can make up your own chapter. There were always 1000 chapters anyway, most of which aren't described so you already had plenty of opportunity to do that. (There's even more now with the Primaris founding). As Rick Priestly, the creator of 40k, has confirmed, they were just included as a bit of mystery.
Importantly, it actually wouldn't make any sense to do so as those chapters had already been disbanded prior to the heresy - so you wouldn't even be able to make them into 40k army.

@@TheLegitWeebs Yeah, in the first edition rulebook it says "The Legiones Astanes is known always as the Space Marines. It comprises 1000 Independent fighting units called Chapters, each of roughly 1000 fighting troops."
There nothing about the 'lost' chapters as the lore surrounding their founding, primarchs etc hadn't been created yet. The current Astartes origin along with the Horus Heresy would come a couple of years later in various supplements.
The original implication in 1e was just that you were supposed to create your own custom chapter, and the few chapters it does mention serve more just as examples of the sort of thing you can do than something that was supposed to be considered 'canon'.
The first edition of the game from 1987 only had the basic setting, but much less of the lore (obviously)- so it was left to the players to make something up. That's still a thing to a certain extent. Although there's tons of lore now, all the factions still include ways to come up with custom stuff if you want - custom Eldar craftworlds, Tyranid hive fleets etc.

Eightbound are created when a Berserker enters a bronze casket and their mind is projected to the Warp where they have to duel 8 Bloodletters of Khorne for control of their body. Sometimes there is a lot of screaming, other times there is no noise. Sometimes there is nothing in the cask when its opened, sometimes a chaos spawn. But, if the Berserker overcomes the daemons they become an Eightbound, they are using the power of the daemons to power themselves. Sometimes, the daemons and the Berserker become a single harmonious conscience of murder and become an Exalted Eightbound. The lore of this game is so over the top, its so much fun.

The best part is that this edict came from Guilliman. This and many doctrines and other stuff regarding the Chapters was writen in a book called the Codex Astartes. Guilliman wrote this book with the idea that it should be taken as guidelines, not strick law, so potentially the 1000 marine chapter things could be flexible depending on the situation, but because the Imperium grew to be stupid later they took the book literally.
When Bricky said that when Guilliman returned he immediately wanted to die, part of it was out of sheer dissapointed when he discovered that his legion (and a lot of other chapters thanks to his oopsie) took his book so seriously as to freaking venerate it. It was funny to watch him mentally facepalm so hard his fist went through his skull.

In regards to the eating your enemies to find out information, that is not just a Space Wolf thing . Most if not all chapters can do it.
You see a chapter Gene Seed can degrade over time, to the point that some Chapters have lost the ability to grow some of the organs that are implanted in a Space Marine. So while a Space Wolf could do the eating thing, a Space Marine from another Chapter might have lost that organ .
Not sure if anyone has done a break down video on all the extra organs a Marine has, but might be worth a look at in your down time.
You never know, Bricky might have covered it on his YT podcast channel , Adeptus Ridiculous.
Edit: Need to point out that Blood Angels , when the Black Rage finally takes them, are in their minds taken back to the Siege of the Emperor's Palace and the final fight with Horus , believing themselves to be Sanguinius and their target to be Horus. This was best shown in a short story of the death of Captain Tycho.
Again like with the organs , have a look if anyone has covered Captain Tycho, his story is tragic as fuck.

Alpha Legion is 100% my favorite. The idea of winning some of the insane wars in 40k without ever firing a shot because of how deeply they've infiltrated the Imperium. One of their better stories is when the High Lords heard Alpharius was on a planet. They dispatched six vindicare assassins to kill him. They lost contact for a while, but one day, the heads of those vindicare assassins appeared in some guy's fridge inside the Imperial Palace because that's how deeply they've infiltrated.

I think Bricky kinda does a poor job explaining the Night Lords and really undersells them. Their brutality and designs are sick as shit, the bat look doubled with the flesh equipment is peak, what really sells them is their absolute sense of Justice. They’re one of the cruelest, diabolical, and twisted legion out there but they do it for their ideal of absolute justice (they also enjoy it however). There’s not a lotta of moments that highlight that Justice aspect but when they do it’s knocks the ball outta the park. The 1 moment that really does it for me comes from the Night Lords trilogy of books in which the protagonist of the books (a night lord) when he hears that there’s a slave onboard their ship that was attempting to start a rebellion, he finds out that the slave was the father to the only child that had been born onboard the ship (a lot of infertile problems) that was recently killed when space marines had boarded and attacked the night lords, he hunted down the space marine captain that had killed the child and killed him, took his helmet back to the slave, apologized for the loss of his child and wife, and essentially told him that while he knew this revenge wouldn’t make up for their lives but that it did help balance it out and that he wouldn’t tolerate any more gossip of rebellion onboard, ultimately leaving the man alive unscathed. It extends so far that when that night lord learned that another night lord went to the slaves and killed that man, he beat the night lord he was told it was to death. They’re also a lot more of a renegade legion then a chaos one. They actively look down and attempt to stay away from chaos corruption.

@@TheLegitWeebs Konrad Curze their Primarch is memed for good reason into being Batman because he 100% is. But outside of the legally distinct enough aspects to avoid a lawsuit, Konrad is in his own right a very tragic character. He’s one of the 2 primarchs that can see the future except he sees the absolute worst futures. He saw the Horus heresy before it even happened and sided with the traitorous legions for many reasons but chief among them was because he saw in the future the emperor sent an assassin after him. His future sight was such that from the moment he met his brother Sanguinius, he saw his death. These future visions also crazed him and essentially gave him schizophrenia. In his final moments when that assassin visited him, he was a babbling mess that was praying to an effigy of the Emperor made out of human flesh and bodies for forgiveness and ultimately gave up his life to the assassin and asked his legion to not kill her after she killed him.
