Really glad everyone seems to be enjoying this - thank you for all the comments. As a few of you have said, it would be great to do a proper collaboration with Jason at some point. Now, I'm off to look at adverts for Austin Sevens...
...and I'm off to look for a diesel BX. Thanks for the tip Henry and have a wonderful Christmas. Weren't BX's immune to wheelclamps on their lower setting. Made them popular with minicab drivers!
Seems you've found your home on Hagerty! Cracking work as always.
Henry and Jason would be the ultimate car nerd's duo we didn't know we needed. Your personalities would complement each other wonderfully.
Have had my eye out for a nice BX for a while. I'd like the lesser spotted gti though!
Nice one Henry!

Love that Hagerty is doing two now. US and UK market. And with two amazing journalists.
And a racing driver
Catchpole & Jason 🫶🏼 (Love from India 🇮🇳)
Yes, Henry and Jason are great, amazing car journalists.
Camissa and catchpole, the collaboration that we deserved
Literally one of the most well-produced “top-10” videos on the internet
Pleased to say I bought my S2 Elise in 2021, thinking the exact same thing. End of production run, Lotus in the press a lot (Emira) etc... its been practically 'free' to own so far, and has to be the best ratio of cost to 'wow factor' on the market. Amazing what they did with some extrusions, fibreglas and an old Rover Engine. I've thought about changing it a lot.... but its really quite a special little thing.
How much you pick it up for mate?
I did the exact same thing, picked up my S2 111r in the summer of 2020 after the first lockdown, incredible cars to own and drive!
Bought my elise for 35k. Now it's worth 45-50k and I enjoyed the heck out of it. Best car I've owned
@@lotusupra It's not worth the price you said!
It's what people ask for it,and they won't get it.
Don't decieve yourself!
I bought an S1 Exige for 30K 8 years ago.
People ask between 40,55K,now for an S1 Exige. They will never get that price!
Your Elise isn't worth anywhere near an Exige, they only built 600 of them.S1 Elises are fairly common.
British cars will bring your relationship with your local mechanics closer ❤
Yep. Wouldn't touch one unless I hit the lottery and had buckets of money to waste.
😂
All cars do. You either maintain it or repair it.
That Saab 900 Turbo was so far ahead of its time. 2L, 4Cyl, Turbo, FWD like every hot hatch in the modern era.
Yes, and understeering, laggy, horrible sounding s**t like every hot hatch in the modern era: worse than rwd cars, worse than 6-cyl cars, worse than naturally aspirated cars.
As an American living in the UK for a few decades I find it very interesting to compare and compare the UK & USA videos on the bull market. I think you nailed both; although I am rather annoyed you focused on the Elise before I have bought one! What a great, accurate and relevant selection! 👍
As regards to the Audi TT yeah it's a nice car but wait till you do the timing belt service. That's the only thing this guy on here does not really talk about is like the cost of maintaining it or try to wrench on it yourself. I don't see him picking up a spanner funny giant people that always try to drive these smaller cars lol.
As everydaydriver calls it, the Elise is a Cul De Sac car. There is no other car you can upgrade to without having to compromise on something. Sure you can buy a more capable car but nothing will be as raw, lightweight, and unique as the Elise/Exige for under 100k. Highly recommend picking up now before the prices go up even more!
Heard someone say the best season for a fin.ancial breakthrough is now, especially with inflation running at a four-decade high. I have approximately $250k stagnant in my port_folio that needs growth. What is the best way to take advantage of this downturn?
That’s right, Markt slumps are one of the worst times to withdraw your moneey from the maket. hence i advise getting the guidance of an expert to make this downturn count.
I use BX coin for mine but i think I'm going to invest in Diablo next. Should be a fun investment but I can't tell the wife since I walked in on her and the mailman the other day.
Whoever's idea was to include Erik Satie's "Gnossienes No. 1" is an absolute GENIUS!!
Hagerty, you guys keep outdoing yourselves!!
I am glad the BX gets the recognition both for the style and the suspension. Love all Citroens up to and including the XM. The C6 too.
Had a tzd turbo wagon. Great ride. Set the suspension in the corner catch the turbo and its a quick car A to B
As always wonderful video with very greatest Henry Catchpole!!! I love so much his work since he was a automotive journalist in Evo Magazine.
Huge Respect from Ukraine!!!
Cars have to be enjoyed, I'm a fan of a friend from Monaco who uses all the cars in his collection as they should, including F40, LaFerrari, XJ220 and others like these, the F40 he put over 45000km in less than 5 years! This type of car, the more you use it, the better it gets! I hate those who buy as an investment and spoil the market!
I own a car that I call an investment but I still enjoy it during the summers. It is a 1973 Volvo 1800ES.
I would call this car a rare classic bargain. they aren't too expensive, especially when taking into account how rare they are.
Excellent I loved the start to this!! 😂😂
Classic cars are greener than new cars retro rocks!!
The BX is super cool and the Austin seven as a cool summer car is fab, the Lambo is a beast I love it!!
Astonishing film as always. Class to see Henry on my screen too 👏
Same Saab 99 as the Top Gear tribute - very cool
Out of all of them, I'd have the Saab. That thing is funky cool.
Absolutely beautiful to watch Henry Catchpole drive and talk about the cars. Would love to see him and Jason Cammisa get together for some absolute fun!
stunning cinematography, awesome writing and sincere passion.
this is the perfect synthesis of all the best of automotive journalism. Grazie, Thank you!
The TT shown here is a rather special version, it is an Audi TT Quattro Sport with 240 hp, they are a little more expensive.
Indeed, the non-quattro, FWD 1.8 models are still cheap.
Hagerty picking up Henry is a huge win, Hagerty is gunning for the top. Always love a good Catchpole review, easily one of the best in the business. Now you just need to poach Chris Harris and Rory Reid.
Damn, they are also my favorite car reviewers.
Haha, Rory Reid? Lol!
This man is a national treasure! Thanks Hagerty and Henry!
Depending on what you spend your money on.. INFLATION IS PROBABLY HIGHER THAN 9.3% FOR YOU! A 9.3% CPI means cash is losing 50% of its buying power every 10 years. If you’re not investing your money, delayed gratification will do nothing to help you financially. Saving your money instead of investing it means your wealth is being transferred to people who own assets.
Something I’ve learned from my first bear market: You don’t have to outperform, just survive. If you can survive and let your competitors blow up you’ll be the only one left and in a better position than before.
Building a good financial portfolio is more complex, so I would recommend you seek professional help. This gives you strategies aligned with your unique long-term goals and risk appetite.

Hi Henry,
Gnasher Haymans and EVO's pal here - hope you are still getting the EV4 Bianchi out !
Great vid. I think these guys have been a bit hit and miss every year though last 5 yrs.
The BPI index of last year below I think is strong for rtns when car hits 25 yr old. - hope so, I purchased and I'm 'laying down' an i8 Roadster.......so to speak !
1 - McLaren P1 - £866,000 - £3m
2 - Tesla Roadster - £60,000 - £210,000
3 - Bugatti Veyron £1.5m - £5.3m
4 - BMW i8 - £125,000 - £440,000
5 - Lamborghini Aventador SVJ - £270,000 - £950,000
6 - Audi R8 V10 - £112,000 - £390,000
7 - Lexus LFA - £340,000 - £1.2m
8 - Pagani Huayra - £2.8m - £9.8m
9 - Ford GT - £380,000 when new - £1.3m
10 - Ferrari Enzo - £450,000 - £1.6m
That Austin is incredible. On this list Id go with the Saab, however. Prefer my 80s BMWs, but would get a saab if were to get anything else
I'd love to get a model T someday but it would have to be my third or fourth car.
Henry and Jason, when will we get that video with you two in it?
Not sure the Internet can handle that.
Catchpole being invited as a guest in Carmudgeon podcast would be amazing
I’m fangirling big time over this video! Catch pole and Cammisa? Am I dreaming? 😮
How fitting that as Henry gets out of the Italian bull, he concludes the show by saying "And that is the Hagerty Bull Market 2023". That's smart if it was intentional.
AND, the video is 20.23 minutes long !!
@@arkhsm It was probably intentional since Jason's Bull Market video BEGAN with him in a Lamborghini. I guess doing that with Henry was an unofficial/subtle way of ending the year's "Bull Market" research/report. I mean if you have a bull branded car in a "Bull Report" you've just gotta use it in some subtle way, don't you? It's a gag that just wrote itself into the script, really.
Wow both of my cars included in this list, I feel honored. Thank you Hagerty great video as always
Great to see the Bentley Turbo R on there, I've always thought they were under appreciated. I bought one in the middle of 2021 and I absolutely love it. It's a later one than the example in the video so a bit more powerful, it's a lot of fun to drive, every trip is an event. And to think it has more capacity in one of its eight cylinders than that Austin Seven has in its whole engine!
Sold my s2 Elise for £13k about 6 years ago. Massive mistake, like for like prices have now doubled, but it was my daily driver in Scotland and it wasn’t practical for that. Not many cars that you have to scrape the ice of the interior before you get going in the morning… but still, it was a great car on perfect days, and even now I’m tempted to buy another, but this time it’ll be garaged and used sparingly…
I love the fact that the US videos are Badass, and the UK videos are Jolly good!
Henry should give Paddy from Top Gear a lesson how to properly drive a Lamborghini Diablo 😉
About the fiesta mk1 gear pattern on the dashboard, my 81' had a black metal ball with no indications as the gear knob, so they probably tried getting away with having it on the dashboard instead, to cheapen out, but then they might have had to put it on the knob anyway for regulations or complains, but costs money to change the dashboard, so probably why they jusy kept it there too.
My Dad had a BX estate! Rode so well, but came from new with electronics that didn't work and started burning oil within 1 year of ownership and needed a new engine.
He binned it and got a Vauxhall Carlton estate instead. We loved it while it worked though!
Would have loved to see Henry get his frame into that Spitfire! Haha
Damn, and I don't even live in the UK and I still watched the whole thing lol. This guy is pretty cool
Its nice to see these cars on film.
This is brilliant! Really enjoyed this. Learned what to look out for for future bulls 👍
I love this channel! Thankyou for what all of you do for us viewers.
Ps: now i want an italian version of this format
Hoovie is rolling his eyes with the Bentley R
15000 pounds plus 20000 pounds to get it on the road....
@@GetOffMyLog Yup, then another 5,000 pounds every year...
Absolutely brilliant segment.
Hagarty have been presenting a Bull Market since 2016 (I think it was) - it'd be good for them re-visit their suggestions against the actual market values, say 5 years later.
We do that! Each new Bull Market list that appears in our Hagerty Drivers Club magazine features a look back at previous lists and how those cars have performed. You can find much of the same information on our website as well: www.hagerty.com/media/market-trends/bull-market-report-card-how-clear-is-our-crystal-ball/
@@Hagerty Thanks the for the reply - didn't realise you did, will check it out! 👍
best YT film of the year. North Wales and the cars never looked better. Quite how the Fiesta is more expensive than the BX confounds me.
Henry catchpole, is well. Amazing!
Someone is always hoping the post Cloud/pre BMW Rollers and Bentleys will go up in value
Tbh I don't find nothing special in them. Feel dated the day most of models came out.
@@zamaanrana1 Ditto
IIRC, the Spitfire was more a competitor of the Sprite and Midget. The TR4 was an MGB competitor.
Thanks for this video! You truly need to do the same but in the US. I think the Nissan S13 240SX need some valoration.
As an American, I would love to have any of them. My friends across the pond always had great cars
That opening sequence!!
0:53 "Diablo linked to Cosmic Girl" I've been obsessed with that song for the last few days and hearing this hit me like a freight train
First car was a mk2 fiesta pop plus! With head rests and of course pepper pot alloys.
Pepper pots were the only way to go. 😁
They transformed those little cars. A friend had one. A car full of us had many pleasant tours of the Stoke on Trent red light district ss 17 year olds 😄
Cool SAAB...also made the US Bull Market list, a SAAB 900! Nice!
Great job, Henry! Please never stop being yourself, mate. What this world needs these days is a sharp, honest, opinion to compare to the one of your own.
Pardon my French, but majority of the popular UA-cam car people just shove their opinion down the brains of millions, which surprisingly has an effect.
What we need is a great auto journalism that makes you take a second though, and maybe enjoy your own conclusions.
Cheers,
someone from the west coast of the states
The best 2 motor journalists without a doubt
Love this series but Hagery is making some BOLD "investment" selections. 2023 is likely going to be a buyers market due to most assets classes headed south or sideways and borrowing rates remaining high. That said new money has to go somewhere with crypto and real estate in the tank.
Wonderfully presented.

Be awesome. Nice review. 👌
The gearshift pattern in the mk1 Fiesta was there to remind you that you're probably in reverse again, every time you stop at the lights.
Very nice video, but the audio mixing is atrocious.
As a youth working in a Ford dealer in the 70s , I really liked the US Fiesta. They were quick, and came in some great colors. I didn’t see a current price in this video for the UK version.
The moment that Diablo SE30's engine came in, the hairs on my arms stood on end! Such a beautiful car in terms of looks, sound and feel - if I could have any car, it would be this one.
@hagerty33 Let me guess: a Nigerian prince wants to offer me his vast vast fortune and all I have to do is send him a £300 release deposit to 'secure' my funds?
Great to see the the Saab included in this , they were so well built compared to other makes. The water injected conversion was bonkers 😂
8 minutes in, 3rd set of ads.
Understand the need but….
Probably see the Austin in a better light than when I was young. Just like vinyl forces you to enjoy music without skipping, older cars do ‘encourage’ taking your time.
Why no Aussie bull market, Hagerty? I know just the reviewer / writer / presenter! Shall I send you my CV?
Don’t know why but my heart started racing when I saw that Saab Turbo💗
Shh, don't talk about the Elise. I still don't have mine.
Love driving a Slower Car at 100% opposed to a Fast car at only 40% of it’s potential 😊
Thanks for the breakdown! 🤔 I’ve got a question: 🤨 I have a set of words 🤷♂️. (behave today finger ski upon boy assault summer exhaust beauty stereo over). Not sure how to use them, would appreciate help. 🙏
Elise S2 especially the one with Toyota engine is a class of it’s owned, almost never to be matched.. I’m surprised they are circa £30k .. I expect they’ll double once electrification and autonomous driving takes over
Don’t know why but my heart started racing when I saw that Saab Tirbo
I didn't like the bx when I was young but now I want so its good to see it here..
And the fifi
you made the video great!
Well done! Marvelous video.
Don’t forget the 40 year old car exemption from emissions taxes in London (and now other cities) changes the market for old good cars. Already we can spot older 911s, big old V8 Aston Martins, Merc SL and even Harry Metcalfe choosing his Silver Shadow for London visits. It’s now unusual to see anything from after 1982 until Euro 4 compliance inside the central London ULEZ.
These episodes need to be longer. Much longer.
Very good Content. I like it
one of the best car show. with out watching the epsode
Nice video but a wee note to the editor: When Henry says listen to the noise of the V12! and gives it the beans, it's maybe not the correct time to ramp up some background music so you can't hear the car at all. Just sayin'.
BX 16VALVE... Most underrated FWD saloon ever !
Sub ton weight, 160hp...goes like stink, drives like a cloud.
Whats not to like?!
Sub tonne are you sure?? Is the 16v the GTi? I had briefly owned a box GTi
@@PaulWashington.. the GTI came in 1.6 8v and 1.9 8v gise as well...also found on the Peugeot 205GTI (1.6 and 1.9)
The 16V came with the all-aluminium XUJ94 engine (with magnesium cam cover ) also found on the Peugeot 405MI16 and Peugeot 309 (M16?).
Oficial weight is 1070kg...but non the less is pretty damn light for a four door hot hatch.
It had a specific body kit (side skirts and rear wing) thicker anti roll bars and firmer suspention.
Depending on the market, it was sold as BX GTI16 S , BX 16 Soupapes, BX16VALVE.
If you ever come by one, try and have a go...
Believe me you're gonna have a blast.
Cheers

I lvoe the look of that era SL500 they are just so cool with the hardtop convertible.
Fantastic Henry 👍🏻😀
Interesting selection 👍😀
Please do a review of couple of these in a years time to see how the market value has changed compared to what was expected
Aside the Austin agree those. Especially the audi TT. I don't like them per se but what a part of auto history
Had a Fiesta mk1 81' a couple winters ago, wasn't in bad shape, but was extremely unreliable, door handel was so cheaply made it has a tendency to snap in half. Had to install a oem manual choke to get it working, still left me stranded a lot over the months I had it. Made me fall out of love with old fords, only got BMWs now... the fiesta is a terrible and dangerous car. Also making it a fun little gocart, as long as you don't value your life much.
The Audi TT is the only car here that I would like to own
Henry, you forgot the best of the lot. The MX5 NC2. World's most raced road car, bullet proof, adjustable, everyday driver for peanuts. Nothing comes close if you can fit in one. 😉
this guy is as good as camissa
YES YES YES!!!!
Music is too loud, can't hear Henry.
Great video but don’t agree with those cars. Who wants to buy them? Come on.
Thank you for mentioning the TT. Now NEVER MENTION IT AGAIN. Until I have one at least.
Its a great car. Never selling mine. Let people think it deives like a Golf, shush!

the fleet before they rise.
@@malvessidrums I’m trying to track down a MK1 VR6, myself. And people don’t know what a golf handles like, or they’re realize that’s a compliment.
Happy hunting to you. And take care of the one you’ve got!
Don’t even bother giving prices in the video, they’ll skyrocket after this.
Haha this was better than some of the other channel's car of the year videos... I'd be interested to experience the Bentley before VW came along and ruined the brand.
