If someone told me 30 years ago I'd be spending 30 minutes of my life watching videos of 2 guys trying to start a Merc from the 80s I would have not believed them! 😂
What an über cool car and it’s history. The Munich based Ferrari dealer, König, created some of the most outrageous wide body kits. I’ve seen both Merc as well as took pictures of one Testarossa wide body on the autobahn in 1989 or 90. It would be like coming across the holy grail if you could find one of those.
Johnny another belter. The Hammer is just such an 80s icon and a prime example of the German were at the peak of their game by then and into the mid 90s. The SEC is to me, mainstream high volume cars wise, peak dashboard style. One of the later ones, in lighter colours like cream or even tan with the wood work, such beautifully done and easy to read well organized clocks, as well as the tapered central console... oh man, is just awesome!
Great stuff. I have a 1986 500SEC in my garage that's not done much in the last 10 years, due to rust at the bottom of the rear screen. It's a common fault on these cars. This has inspired me to get my finger out and get it back on the road. All the best.
5 L of fuel power of AMG Mercedes sounds really nice even know it sounds a bit lumpy Corby instead but it sounds good. It’s about time you Johnny went back to Capri club headquarters and seen what they’ve got any vision right down the bottom of the field because there is a 3 L Capri down there with Bonita on it what are used to be my one and if you go back to see if I wanna sell it
Incredible story and find - as these widebody versions are stunning looking cars by today's standards with such a rich & deep history from the pre-merger AMG days when they were a seperate tuner to MB. The early production 32v engines in the Gen1's had issues with cams snapping near the sprocket. This was later rectified with thicker diameter shafts produced. The earlier versions also had issues with the heads which were sand cast and not of high quality alloy and prone to oil leaks and the oil drain back to sump was not great which was also rectified in later versions. The biggest headache is you cannot gets parts for these 32v engine heads anymore unless someone can custom make them which is difficult. The bottom end/blocks is no issue at all For a car enthusiast I can't believe he just let it sit for so long (+10yrs) without regularly starting it and dribing it and swapping out old fuel for fresh and adding inhibitor to the fuel and getting a radiator flush at least (& brake fluid) and placing a dust cover over the coupe and some rodent bait traps & fixing the broken window to keep the moisture out of the barn ? Such is life is suppose
Thanks Jonny - for all the hard work. Your barn find videos are solid gold and this is the mother lode. Neville was great, and the car is one mean, glorious 80s bastard 👍

Hi Jonny, firstly thanks to Neville for allowing access to the car. What an 80's icon, and in fantastic condition. Out on the street would still garner LOTS of interest out on the street and at events. Brilliant video guy's. Alex.
The larger version of this engine were bored AND stroked, not just bored out. There weren't any AMG converted M117 DOHCs in 5.2, but there were 5.4, 5.6 and 6.0 DOHCs. However I've never seen a 5.4 in anything other than a W124, I'm not sure a 5.4 was ever sold in a 126. It's abit of shame to have a such a rare pre Merger AMG sitting rotting and an owner knows relatively little about the car. Also the torque of the engine did not/ could not cause flexure or cracking of the wide arches, that was purely down to manufacturing.
Quality, quality and once again quality, content! Your UA-cam has to be one of the best petrolhead channels on any platform. Why its not been snapped up by one of the mainstream channels is beyond me, their loss is definitely our gain keep up the excellent work and keep them coming

I hope this renews some interest for him to get it through an MOT and driving. would be a treat to see it at a Classic car show. Anybody else thinks he sounds like David Jason?!
I can't understand why these classic cars aren't looked after more by there owners!🤔 Can it really be too much trouble when putting into long time storage to wash and wax this car, then cover it in nice clean old bed sheets and a full length plastic sheet, I would personally jack it up and put wooden blocks under each corner to keep the wheels and tyres off the ground, and finally run the engine at least once a month. I'm really hoping that one day there will be a barn find video were the owner has done this sort treatment to their classic and it's like a new pin under the sheets. But still a another great barn find from Jonny. 👍

Best car I ever had was a bog standard 560 SEC that I bought while working in the UAE. It was low mileage, and in such good nick that the boss of the local Merc dealer kept pestering me to buy it. I needed to order a spare part for it once. Called my local mechanic and he said "does it have the sports pack on it", or something similar. "I have no idea - how do I find out?" "Go online, go through sites that translate VIN numbers, and find one that tells you the spec when it was sold." The first site I found had trouble with the VIN, so did the next, and the next. In fact they all did. According to most of the sites I visited my 1990 Mercedes 560 SEC was actually a 1972 VW Kombi van.

Nice guys! The Bosch CiS fuel pumps will seize up during storage and fuel drying inside the fuel distributor gums up the piston/slits….you can see the air metering device moves very little with throttle….so it’s crazy RICH😂
You did see early UK AMG cars, very rarely, in certain parts of Central and West London when they were new. I was a courier with a vague interest on cars. Off Bayswater Road, around Holland Park and in the warren of streets east of Park Lane, you'd see the odd body-kitted big Merc. Most were horrendous. Some were truly grotesque. One or two were proper AMG cars. At the time, I thought them a vulgar sign of oil money... I am prepared now to revisit that assessment in some cases. Most remain grotesque, but some (including this one) are really rather lovely.
These just get batter and better! I love the old Mercedes! Wanted to see her drive out for a better look!, Surprised you didn't all collapse of asphyxiation :D

I love these episodes where you co present with Neville the ghost and his ectoplasm easy start, great content! 😀 Good stuff as ever Jonny, what a motor!
The fact you got it running at all is mighty impressive. As a Merc specialist I had my reserves about the fuel head being in working order after being parked for so long. If you're ever messing with classic mercs and want some info or help, get in touch.
Just for clarification, the Hammer was the Nickname given to the w124 6.0liter AMG after well documented road tests, including Road and Track, where the car topped 180mph only beaten buy a Ruf 911 Turbo. This particular car is extremely desirable to any AMG enthusiasts. Without doubt the golden era of both Mercedes and AMG. In terms of investment opportunities, don’t get better than this. Definitely something I would be interested in re commissioning
I had the same pioneer head unit in with wood finish surround and remote I paid around £500 for it the front dropped down and the cassette slotted in behind cd multi changer in boot I was only thinking about it a few weeks ago then it pops up in your video love this channel

Beautiful C126 AMG wide body. But fyi it's not a Hammer, only the 124 with M117 engine is a Hammer.
This is the kind of can you can usually only dream of finding in a barn.
The best content on the t’internet, bar none. But I just don’t understand how people have these cars just hanging around……. If they are so special wouldn’t you just want to drive it………..?
This felt so satisfying and amazing. Especially the Duracell part.
Ha! Sometimes the little things make the difference. Thank goodness for Nev's stash of micro batts...
@@TheLateBrakeShow made my day thank you for replying. ❤️
That is a cool car, my mates mothers neighbour had a similar looking car, there’s oil up when we live so there were some cool cars going around in the 80s
I love these episodes where you co present with Neville the ghost and his ectoplasm easy start, great content! 😀
Good stuff as ever Jonny, what a motor!
CC 77 - is currently on a 2013, 5.4l White Merc Benz, and is currently taxed
The fact you got it running at all is mighty impressive. As a Merc specialist I had my reserves about the fuel head being in working order after being parked for so long. If you're ever messing with classic mercs and want some info or help, get in touch.

Another great episode. I really enjoy 'The Late Break Show'. A truly class act. Please keep these episodes coming Johnny. Watching from Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you Tim, and all the best mate.
As I watch this video at 4 months old CC77 is on a brand new registered on 28/7/23 E class Mercedes.
A proper 80s excess car. Probably owned by a stockbroker or a plasterer with Bish bosh loads o’ dosh.
Having all those cars, and not driving or actually keeping them running clean and useable is actually criminal
Dream cars. Love them a lot. Have an 560 sec but this beast is ...amazing. Thanks
Undoubtedly a special car but I never engaged with this bloke or his cars. Still great episodes though.
This is not an actual AMG hammer. They came in c124 body. Really nice car tho fantastic find
Absolutely correct Hammer applies to V8 M117 32v W124's, the AMG 6 cylinder W124's where apparently called Mallets as legend has it.
CC 77 is on a White Merc, comically enough lol a 2013 M-Class AMG 5.5
I had the same pioneer head unit in with wood finish surround and remote I paid around £500 for it the front dropped down and the cassette slotted in behind cd multi changer in boot I was only thinking about it a few weeks ago then it pops up in your video love this channel
You need an ex automobile electrician like me to remove that alarm & immobiliser. I used to fit alarms on cars from mid 80s to early 00s. Easy to remove if you know how. I’m based near Guildford, Surrey.
Absolutely no Health and safety whatsoever……my type of place. Love it 😅
You didn't need a battery it's a touch immobiliser ....lol😮😮😅😢
Can of hope by appointment from Tony BMW.... The Germans help each other out.
The shed is cleaner than the car they are meant to be driven, not kept rusting. Very nice
"Neville" really sounds like David Starkey or Michael Whitehall.
Out of Neville's collection, this would be my favourite. I'd get it running and use daily asap!
Really nice coupé👌
Hi Jonny, the K-Jetronic system requires at least 5 bar fuel pressure
I am so glad I have joined this channel. Love this car, well done!!! What an epic video. Keep it up Pervy
+1 .. If you could only view the smile on my face .... and I'm 10,000 miles from that garage .... 3 Cheers !!! .. Herr Jonny that's a "Barn Find"!!
“Hammer” was the nickname for the MB
124ch cars.
Remember the times when Nakamichi was wet dream of every kid on the block. 👍
Just watched this and it’s another great Barn Find episode well done Johnny. Neville sounds like a top bloke also 👍🏻 Off to watch the episode on his collection now 😀
I’m sure I could taste the fumes coming through the screen. What a car though!
Iv never wanted to wash and polish a car as much in my life
Mercedes have definitely gone down hill, you can't compare a new A class to something like this. My father has the same head unit in his 300sl r129
