I truly love seeing Meg and Buggy cooking together. Meg you are truly a Mom that could teach others the proper way to teach a child. Your patience is astounding and I am sure the day will come when you will have quite the helper in the kitchen.
The boys cook with Meg also.
Bacon, bacon, and more bacon. I call that a good day. I'm just hoping that you never get tired of showing us around your homestead. I really appreciate your hard work. Thanks Ben, Meg and family. Peace.
I always love the shot of your dinner table filled with your kids. Such a sweet and loving family. Thanks for sharing.
They're surely doing it right!
Buggie / Sister is not going to be rushed finishing that dinner, lol. Can't say I blame her. The boys are growing up so fast, they won't be boys much longer. It would be nice to see an episode on what their plans are for the future. peace
Just finished watching the newest video and was not disappointed. When Ben was trimming the Mulberry it reminded me of a Mulberry that grew in the field behind my home when I was a younger mother. My kids and I would pick those berries and made cobbler with them and it was so good. I do hope that you have a huge harvest. It is a true treat watching Meg do her cooking, she is to be admired. Thank you for sharing a part of your life with us...blessings to each of you.
@@kenhartman9981 Same question, different Debra ... bot.
I have been watching your channel for a couple of years, but recently I was wondering where it all started so I went all the way back to season 1. I must say, watching Ben on season one is like watching a stranger talk with someone's else's voice coming out his mouth! He looks sooo different! It is fun though, seeing all the kids when they were little. Thanks for all the hours of entertainment and education you have provided this community.
I just love how lil Buggy follows her dad outside and cooks with her mom! So special!💜💜💜
Hey, I'm all in for "Bacon Week"!! 🥓
Yummy bacon! At first thought to cover the smoker chimney I thought " umbrella"☔ Ben's genius ideas coming to the rescue works again! And Meg you work so hard to prepare such delicious meals among so many other things needing your attention! You rock girl💖
Buggy is gaining all kinds of skills! Her stirring the muffin batter was nearly expert! 3 years in the making--very fulfilling. Blessings Abound
When I was a kid, we would lay old patched up sheets around the mulberry tree. Then dad would have me "climb like a monkey" & shake the tree hard. That was how I earned the mulberry pies & jam 😁😁😁😁😁
We did this also with a bed sheet, only it wasn’t patched and they were white, it wasn’t appreciated, but the berries were clean 😂
That's the way we did pecans. 🙃
When I was young my girlfriend and I use to climb 2 old massive Mulberry trees right behind our elementary school. We would spend hours in those trees picking as much as we could carry. Then mom would make a most delicious pie and we would have mulberry's on top of our Cheerios every morning.
Your boys are getting so big. It always amazes me about the passage of time, I don’t always realize how long I’ve been watching your family grow up
I look forward to my daily visit with the Hollars! 👋
Same here.
Awesome family farm content. Your boys are such great helpers. 👍Meg's cooking is amazing and Buggie and her ear of corn is adorable 💕💕 Take care and God Bless.
We always watch your videos when they come out. There is really something special about your family. We do love Megs cooking! Love you guys!
OH MY GOSH… barefoot in rain & mud ❤❤❤❤❤. Brings back memories for sure !! Love this tribe 🥰. 👵🏻👩🌾❣️
Buggie's so cute going after that ear of corn!🌽 The scrapple looked so good with scrambled eggs. For years I've had a huge mulberry tree that has never had fruit. There used to be an older gentleman that lived behind me and he said it needed a female tree to bear fruit. Mulberries taste so good, I should buy another tree. Just never did as the soil here is red clay and like concrete whenever you have to dig in it. Bet next time we see Meg she will be slicing bacon! That's going to be a lot if delicious bacon!!!
I love that y'all call it "Blackened" too! It's not burnt It's just a bit Blackened 👍 My first impression of the scrapple is that it reminds me of a spam or bologna, looks good almost like a sausage spam mix 🥰
Legendary Louisiana chef Paul Prudhomme from the Opelousas area, learned to cook by helping his mom in the kitchen prepare food daily for their very big agriculture farm family(10-12 kids iirc)...and at noon when they would come in from the fields for lunch, Paul and his mom would have a full feast for that hard working rural family! When I see Buggy standing by her mom, doing her best to learn and "help"...I often think of that story and remember what it lead to for true American farm inspired food/cuisine that couldn't be matched by any other famous trained chefs. In re the "blackened" scrapple...Paul and his wife Kay...sort of popularized the "blackened" food trend, most often with fish and fowl...and in a good book read about Paul and Kay and tales from their Louisiana kitchen. Ya'll go ( and keep cookin' country style) Hollars! 🇺🇲 ! Be safe, dry and cool!🔥👍💪🙌👀🐷
I love my toast blackened. Lol
The first time my to be life long best friend spent the night, breakfast was toast and eggs. The toaster burnt the first batch and she LOVES burned toast! Lol, thank you for stirring the memories
Would NEVER complain about Bacon Week with the Hollar's. That would be something to look forward to each year. ;) Love ya guys!!
I’m a western NC Native..and we call that livermush not scrapple…sometimes it don’t even have liver in it lol…it’s basically the scrapes plus meal..but we just don’t think about what’s in it! Cause it tastes good! Breakfast , on a sandwich , fried or not it’s tasty! Love you guys. Blessings🙏❤️
I call it liver pudding in Raleigh
Yes, it's livermush! It is the most amazing stuff, and now I really want some!
Me too 😊
I grew up eating liver mush all the time in western NC. Still love it, but it's harder to find here in the Raleigh area.
Oh! Yes, I know that stuff too! Did not recognize it, because I never make it myself. Its ‚Leberkäse‘In german. No liver in it, would be interesting to find out, where this name comes from 😂
We mostly eat it as „Leberkäsesemmel“. Tastes great!
💖Never too much bacon. 🥓I have been telling my husband about your bacon and how we could get a pork belly at the market and possible cure it the way we like. Wish me luck with him. He is still working at 71 in the software industry that is as busy as when he started in the 1970"s. Best part is that he loves his work. Bacon would have to be a hobby filling in those hours when he is waiting for a program to run and there are many of those. 💯Ben, your plants are working overtime to make up for the bake you had last summer. Lots of good eats so far. Hope your high tunnel helps with any baking this year. 💫 Suddenly realized I can tell the twins apart. Thanks for getting a haircut Jack even though I was hoping all the boys would wear their hair like dad. 🥓I will be looking forward to your next bacon video! Never too much bacon! 🔅Take care! Please stay safe while working away with all that Spring energy! ❇❇❇
Nice to see a hard working Christian family praying together. Really enjoyed the music. May God continue to bless y'all some more!.
The bacon looks fantabulous. 🥓 I can almost smell it from here.
Buggy sure is enjoying that dinner.
Omg Meg, u cook from dawn to dusk. I love all of your videos. Thank you.
Yay for bacon week and all the baby sprouts! Watching baby sister do all the things in the background lol. She sure keeps busy! Enjoy that dinner little chicky!! After all this rain, when the sun does pop out everything is going to turn green and lush lol.
The smoker did a great job ,the BACON LOOKING GREAT 👍👍👍
Always a much-awaited treat. Thanks, guys! You make every day better.
Your gentle every-day life is a welcome change to the frantic insanity around at the moment.
I love the life you have created for little Miss Buggy, your 4 amazing boys and yourselves. I am aiming to to the same for my little family ( even though I am 56, my hubby is 71 and our son is 22, we are active and in the process of turning our typical Aussie urban backyard into our dream urban homestead)
Oh goodness look at those sweet little hands Y’all are such a wonderful example of what a family should be Thanks for sharing your love with us ❤️🐝
I'm an avid follower from Quebec, Canada. I was raised in the city and wooed to the country life many years ago. Thank you, your voices teach others. All have a great time whilst you get on with it! Kooodos to you 2. and your wonderful entourage children.
BACON!!!!
Love Bacon!!!
Mulberry trees are gorgeous, and can sure make a big mess when berries fall all over the place. We used to have thousands of berries drop from a neighbor trees at the last house we rented. The berries were old when they dropped and made a big mess all over the back porch, berry stains every where.
It was a full time job to shovel, and sweep berries.
I loved watching Buggy whisk your muffin dough. She has really caught on using the whisk. I'm sure it's because she's watching Mom in the kitchen baking, and cooking.
You all are so dear. If I could have a do over. Meg and your amazing culinary skills. Ben and your ability to make things happen through ingenuity. Thanks so much for sharing with us.
Thank you for showing how to make and cook the scrapple !
I really look forward yo your videos every day. I am semi retired and in the afternoon you guys are what I watch daily. You are also very inspiring to me. I live in CA where you're from. I've homesteaded now for 30 yrs or more. I've raised horses, chickens, hogs and a garden and raised my two children. We are not city slickers by no means. I just want you to know that you and your videos are appreciated. Love ya!
@@kenhartman9981 Weird question to ask someone. Are you a 'Debra' bot?!
❤️
@@XtremeChiliPepper - "Ken Hartman" harasses female commentators. If someone replies, "Ken" then wants them to direct message and eventually tries to financially scam them at best - at worst, sexual harassment.
A very weird question, seeing that she answered the question before it was even asked! She said she’s from CA. Let’s leave it at that, because asking for her location specifics could be considered creepy.
I love how your kids are barefoot in January. I watch and like all your videos on my Tv. I can’t leave messages unless I pull up the video on the phone. I just wanted to say I love all the content you put out. Especially at meal time when y’all hold hands and pray.
Thank you. You all are lovely family. That bacon looks delicious.
I grew up in VA also calling it scrapple or liver mush. The best part of the day though was being able to steal inside and grab some off the stove around lunchtime to just eat cold or make into a sandwich. I live in MN for the last 25 years and there is a store here that sells it in the frozen meat section. If anyone in the Midwest wants to give it a try check with your meat department.
Cracked up when your son couldn't wait to start pruning that tree with "cindy". 😁
I'm having serious food envy with this episode. Please, just once. Feed me.
🤣
My husband is from Pennsylvania and his mother fried scrapple in a pan too. I took a trip out to eastern PA a few years ago and had deep fried scrapple. Both are wonderful! Thanks for making me drool. 🤣😂
Just started to watch your day. I spy a duck in the chicken coop. Never seen him/her before, that I can remember. Plus he gets a pile of his own. Ah. Keep well all. Love your stuff.
First I saw a duck also, did one of the boys want to start raising them?
Love your young mans hair cut, Ben with the rain now you can play with your seeds, always some thing to do . We had snow , now its going to rain for the next week, West Coast
Your own scrapple, your own bacon, your own milk, your own potatoes most likely as well as corn. You guys are REALLY DOING IT! So impressive, so inspiring.
I was thinking that looked like a great breakfast sandwich! All bacon all the time. From birth to breakfast!
Microbes always slow down when it gets cold and then get more active as it gets warmer. I love bacon.
So thankful that you guys share your journey. All of the ups and downs.
My husband was shopping and got a whole ham on clearance. 23lbs. At first we had no idea, but money has been tight and we couldn't pass it up. I got a notification that your video was live and it reminded me that we have so many options with this meat.
We are really considering getting chickens too! Been considering it for several years now, but come spring I think we are going to pull the trigger!
Thank you for sharing your story and helping us all figure out how to homestead where we are at!
Another great episode, and love how Buggy I'd helping Mamma cook, special times xxx
I can remember my grandpa putting down sheets on the ground under mulberry, plum, and hickory trees then taking the tractor and gently shaking the trunk to make the goodies fall. Most landed on the sheets and made for an easier harvwst😊
Love love seeing a little baby hand helping Mama in the kitchen! What a special time!
Bye Buggie so adorable 🎈cute . That bacon looks amazing
We don’t ever get tired of watching your family. You can do as much with bacon 🥓 as you want!!!! It’s awesome. Thanks for sharing with us. God bless all of you.
Always good videos would love to have a video with Meg in the kitchen once a week
Ben have you gotten some fig trees? Ask at a nursery what variety is good in your area and you have sun for it. Meg could make wonderful jam/preserves with them or using them in entrees/sides…if there are any left because they are soooo good and sweet fresh from the tree! Therefore, for your tribe plant 6 or 8!
My favorite days too. So I get a clean house. Beans or soup going and back in the day a lovely fire with a good book and a cup of tea. Those days are long gone but I sure enjoyed them.
Loved that beautiful little helper today in the kitchen.
Bacon looks sooo good.
Ben,...an old metal coffee can with the top edge opened with a can opener to make smoke escape vents.... turn upside down over the top of your smoker chimney, to keep the rain out. Thanks for the videos.
Another great video. Did Tyler’s bow / arrow Come out good? Your boys have skills that will be useful all their lives. Many years ago something went wrong with our water heater in the bathroom. Because of where the hand basin was the door would only open so far. I went in to see how it was going and hubby had two two year olds ( we have twin boys ) lying on his back looking over his shoulders to see what he was doing. Ah memories. Thank you for taking us along with you. 💕💕🌻🌻
I always enjoy following the Hollars around. I’ve been so blessed by their journey.
I'd love to try live milk its meant to be very good for you, so look forward to see what buggy gets up to on every video and love how she prays before feed time, my 2nd youngest granddaughter turned 4 last month and shes into everything and drives her mam bonkers, her big sister starts to learn to drive next month when she turns 17, god help us lol, love the videos by the way and have watched your family grow before buggy was born, so down to earth and a great family unit that work for each other and your community, god bless
We are truly blessed to be able to watch your family almost every day and you have such a beautiful family thank you for sharing with us
That was beautiful texture in your scrapple, no crumbling when you cut it or falling apart in the pan. Great job Meg! You inspired me to dig some of our local Rapa scrapple out of my freezer for breakfast tomorrow!
I've never seen any one make scrapple or even talk about it. I missed your video when you made it, so I'll have to go back and check it out. My mom was from Pennsylvania and she made scrapple all the time. I'm curious if your recipe is similar to hers. Scrapple is delicious, this makes me want to make some for my family. Thanks for sharing.
THANKS BEN, didn't know about the mulberry pruning for fruit. I just knew the fruitless shad trees get cut back wickedly. I've got a little tree in a 5 gal bucket, I'll cut it back a tiny bit to test🤔😳. Then see what happens this year.
Looked like someone got a haircut 😊 logs the cooking done today and the group of guys pruning that tree❤️
Those little helping hands so cute! ❤
Wow. Great video from breakfast to dinner, feels like we spent the whole day with y'all. It was nice. Goodnight
It is great to see the making of your scones. Fantastic. You should show more of your meal prep. 🥰🥰🥰🥰👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I am from SC and truly enjoy your family and videos.
I don't know how to do that
Looking forward to the next Bacon episode... Please keep sharing this process. Thank you
Hey! We are a family from the UK and love watching all your videos! If you ever have time maybe to do a video on what you do with the milk after milking? I know some people drink and use straight from the cow, just interested thats all 🙂
Hey Hollers, the Scrapple looks authentic, great job 🌟🔥 . Yummy lookin Bacon 🐦.
Bye Bye Buggy 🤗
JO JO IN VT 💞💨❄️
It's been a wounderfull journey with the pigs~n all the things ❤🤗👍see you on the next one. Oh n I think my grandma used to make this scrapple🤗
That scrapple looks so good!
It makes my heart smile when I see the boys with no shoes on their feet it reminds me of my childhood
Bacon week! Bacon is the candy of the meat world!! 😊
Love you and yours ❤
Oh, yes, cold smoked mangulitza bacon! Does wonders for your immunity and joints health, and the taste!!!!
Scrapple reminds me of liver puddin!!! I grew up in North Carolina eating a alot of it for breakfast!!! It's super delicious, but frying it makes it better as a solid slice!! I am also a fan of fried bologna!!! SMOOZIE!!! I love buggies "lingo"!!! Wow I wish I could taste that smoked cured bacon!! What a nice foggy day on the homestead, with family and food!!! Love to see new videos from y'all!!!
Your son's haircut looks nice. Interesting video, always teaching. Thank you
Thank you Meg for cooking for us. We love your content so much. ❤️
Wow things are really starting to take shape. All the fixing up and clean up looks amazing!!
@The Hollar Homestead.
Yes,Ben, a mulberry tree blooms and gives fruit on young growth and from my experience it is possible to get another crop with another pruning. Even in a state of stress such as a long drought and then watering, can also cause flowering and a second crop.
the mulberry sticks will root very easily. so spread them around!
Love love love your videos! Ben, you and Meg are amazing! Love your family and the grace in which you show us the beautiful life you live! I pray for you daily! God bless you! Thank you for your labor of love! 💕 Meg is an amazing cook! I can almost smell the aromas it looks so good 😊 my grandmother loved scrapple. I wish I had tried it with her. I will try it soon though through your inspiration! 😊
Thank you for sharing your bacon journey. Blessings
Don't mind a week of bacon. Me and my husband are gonna be doing four feeder pigs this month for the first time and by watching you guys I think we can do it! Thanks
Use a different trees wood around the trunk of the tree so no bugs get into the living trees.
I think I watch just for all the good food production. You both are amazing. The kids are growing up healthy and well fed, but know where their food comes from.
Everything is coming along nicely
Scrapple and eggs. One of my favorite meals. Anytime of the day.
You cook the scrapple how we always crispy, brings back so many wonderful memories of my grandparents, now I'll have to make some. Love watching Meg cook. Always enjoy your videos they are never boring, interesting and informative. Please can't get enough of the bacon saga. Now make a peanut butter chocolate bacon milkshake for me yum 😂. Blessings to you all. 😊🇺🇲
We have a mulberry tree in our yard, someone else planted many many years ago. This last year was the first year they actually had tons of fruit and it turned the right co,or. Years before it only developed green to white mulberry. Last year they actually turned purple. I made mulberry jam, was good. We had trimmed it just a little the year before cause the tree limbs were in the way of mowing. Your so resourceful around the homestead. Good asset to to have. Nancy from Nebraska
Their is a song that Reminds me of your family
( Evergreen) from Susan Jacks )
. Listen to it together when you have the time. beautiful. Growing together.
God and Family 🙏
When I was little mom would have us kids hold a sheet under the mulberry tree and she would shake the branch so that the ripe berries would fall on to the sheet. Usually a kid ended up in the tree, shaking the branches. It is a quick efficient way to harvest them. Some twigs and leaves end up in the sheet but can easily be sorted when washing the berries.
We are trying to figure out a seed starting system indoors. Thanks for the info and showing us how to get things started. We have always bought plants but this year we have decided to start seeds. Looking into a grow light system like y'all have! Thanks again for the videos! We watch everyday you all put out a video! We have also been binge watching "The Epic Road Trip" videos 😂.
Most definitely enjoyed your video. You never disappoint. Simple things have such a beauty when appreciated, and I see that your family does. I look for a video everyday, except the weekends. Of course, I check just in case. That's a lot of work for our pleasure. You bless us. Thanks!
Buggie, beets, corn, and spinach are my favorite veggies.
We had mulberries. Fruitless & 2 fruited (1 white!). Unfortunately, we had to take out the fruited ones because they were tearing up the fence. The other was a great shade tree. We gave it a hard prune (pretty much to trunk) every couple of years & it flourished.
Protip: don’t plant near water..they will dig down looking. We also had to have our sewage line cleared every few years.
Thank you guys for sharing. Your videos are always inspiring (except maybe the hog butchering)😮 love your family so much. Blessings 💕🙏🏻💕
I,m saying this with kindness. Tho butchering videos are inspiring to many of us who send ours to the locker and wish we had the knowledge and bravery to do it ourselves.
Love watching your life unfold. Love Little
sister. yOU ARE TEACHING YOUR CHILDREN GREAT THINGS. tHEY WILL HAVE A GREAT LIFE.
Those muffins look delish Meg...can't wait for your cookbook to come out..❤
Please explain the fascination with mulberry trees. We have them up north and when the fruit falls, they attract flies, fruit flies, bees, and leave slime on the ground. Also, as you're discovering, savage pruning is necessary, yearly. What benefits am I missing?
You all are still my favorite homesteading channel...I'm addicted. :)
They are tasty! And good food for birds.
And for us, planted in the woods they become forage for the pigs.
Historically, the leaves were fed to silkworms who produced silk. America was producing silk well before the Revolution and imported white mulberries trees from Asia for that purpose.
Red Mulberries are native to America.
@@TheHollarHomestead Sounds good but, that mulberry you pruned isn't in the woods, its right by your zone 1.
@@portialancaster3442 yes, but I was just trying to give some of our reasons for liking mulberries in general. We do have some in the woods that the pigs love.
