Ben, I have said for years, I should have gone to school to be a meteorologist. Good pay, and forever wrong at least half the time. You boys playing in the fire made me want to go light my pile. Fire tomorrow in southeast Wichita, KS
I’ve lit many slash piles in the Pacific North-WET, mostly with green material and always in the rain. I’m sure this will get gasps from some but what we did was make a deep pocket in the pile and set a coffee can full of gasoline so it doesn’t tip over. You can light it with a match because only the surface vapor burns. That can of gas will burn hot for a long time. As it burns, you keep covering it with brush and bonfire 🔥 happens. I’ve never had to re-start a fire.
I love watching your family doing your thing. No controversy, no fearmongering, no drama. You teach by example and that's the way to do it.

There are lots of ways to make charcoal. The one l like is where they ignite the wood then cover it with dirt. Return much later and unbury it to find loads of charcoal.
The leaf blower works wonders on burn piles
