@Bb-k4gd I know where Teresa lives in NJ. It's a VERY well to do area. BonJovi had a $20 million house close by on the river. Most houses in NJ are expensive & have high taxes compared to Indiana. Plus, there's is a lot to do in NJ. You don't have to go far to find all kinds of restaurants, shows, Broadway, cruises, nightlife, great beaches, etc....Indiana sounds pretty boring in comparison, imho.
I get that. I'm in my 60's, want a REAL relationship that's fantastic, & I will NOT go steady. I want a spiritual, non- legal marriage. I deserve the ring, the dress, the lovely parties, & really nice honeymoon. I'm having all the discussions, not wasting time on the fundamentals not matching up.

That NC story is just a theoretical and irrelevant detail - they didn't move there. They're telling the public now they tried & it didn't work out as neither want to move.
It's all just a clean up job to try to keep the public sweet on the whole show concept.

I still feel the whole thing was an orchestrated beat up for seducing viewers and it ended up being a big mess.
I agree that we midlifers have some "special" challenges which the producers of the Golden Bachelor likely didn't consider. They should have known this would happen with a man named Gerry...😂...j/k. I used to have a grand aunt with that name. Seriously though, it is too bad it didnt work out. It will be interesting to see how the Golden Bachelorette develops.
Fully exploring a relationship by going "all in", as you state, is still best. It does take more than love. Having true respect for each other, blending lives, and truly caring for each other takes intentionality. Great analysis Jonathon. 💛
Why do I have this feeling that it Gerry that must have done or revealed that he is not what he says he is! Very sad because I liked the series and what it showed to younger folks that those of us over 60 are vibrant, intelligent, and active!
I agree with you, but I also couldn’t wrap my head around why he chose her. He picked the wrong lady. On top of that I agree with you . The distance, the unknown about what life would be like together or what their moral compass was and bottom they didn’t know each other at all really.
Gerry was upfront about wanting somebody that can get up and go and do and travel. She was still working and had no end date insight. So that added to the issues as well as the long distance. My guess if she wasn't working, they could've made the long distance work. But she just didn't have the time to travel and do as he did.
He looks sad in the short interview, announcing their amicable divorce 🙁
She said she would stop working if they got married.

My thoughts on marriage...I think this day and age there is really no reason to get married.
I see it myself, where more people literally live together and are not getting married.
Young and old alike.
On the other hand, gays were fighting hard for ‘gay marriage to be legally approved’ just to enjoy the Legal ‘Benefits’ of being married. That was their biggest argument.

She had actually told him she was willing to go to his location before he married his final pick - while Leslie was more tied to her location and horses.

I guess the whole "too hard to compromise and move" is just a publicly more acceptable story than the real reason.
To me he seemed such a dishonest, selfish gold digger by the end which would be awful for any woman, but Theresa seemed manipulative enough to handle him.
Either she saw more fully how awful he really is in the 3 months, or they've been playing along since before the wedding to comply with what the film makers wanted.
The whole thing just confirms how dishonest these shows are- they were trying to improve the image of such shows, but have made it worse instead.

I’m in the UK so don’t get to watch your version of these reality TV shows. I’ll be honest that it has crossed my mind that I would be up for something like this but it’s just too much of a false settling and as it’s a TV programme, nobody is going to actually care about the outcome, once the wedding is done and the producers have had their success, it’s “today’s news is tomorrow’s fish & chips wrapping paper!” (we used to serve f&ch in newspaper yrs ago in the Uk!)
Fingers crossed that the 2 involved will not be significantly impacted mentally by this…

Jonathan, I agree with you about doing the work. The more I do the work, the more I get hit on. Home Depot, wherever. I'm not interested in these men, but I think its an energetic thing. An attitude. Being happy with oneself and life. Its not makeup or hair either. I go out looking decent, but there's no time for frills.
I appreciate your perspective around going all in quickly. I have not thought about it from that mindset but it makes a lot of sense especially at this age.

As a widow, Teresa seemed to be comfortable at this point as a widow. She has been alone since her husband passed. Gerry, hmmm...too many red flags-his dating history was not completely honest. His resume was questionable/not clear. He was still crying for the deceased wife too many times. He brought her picture to the show!! Why would he do that? It's been 5 years & you sign up for a dating/marriage show !! Every time he talked about his lakehouse, he got teary eyed. Widowers don't move on as well as widows do. Gerry got caught up in the fun & excitement & let that cloud if he was REALLY emotionally available. He's not but he isn't going to state this outloud.
I believe ABC pressured them into marrying so fast.

When you name some of the women you were intimate with, you appear to want validation. Women don't appreciate a man telling the public he had sex with them, with a picture. I think that is inappropriate. I thought you said the first time you meet isn't a date, it's a meeting, and that's why you dont pay the full bill. That was a great quote, though.

Thank you Jonathan, I was saddened with the news. My takeaway “Theresa chose to keep her job, home & lifestyle over keeping her marriage with Gerry”. I think she later realized she needed to protect herself from life with Gerry. Yes, as we grow older we get more selfish. Successful marriages choose Marriage every day. Theresa chose to be single again because life with Gerry was not was she hope for. I wish them the best finding someone else. 🫶

I didn’t watch the show but when they were on “Kelly and Mark” the next day after the final Rose show. He wasn’t happy about her trying to change what he was eating. I could tell if wasn’t going to work. Didn’t know they lived in different cities.
Jerry only took complete interest in Teresa when he found out, she was a financial planner and what she did for a living he seemed to be more into Leslie, but I think he’s not all that in a bag of chips so things were revealed after the show that came up about him. I’m sure Teresa is just fine She is a successful businesswoman. They got their 15 minutes of fame they got paid for the show. They got free vacations. They got a wedding paid for so it’s no loss.

Gerry was emotionally labile and rigid in his thinking. Maybe pre dementia. He was not a “catch”. He had to pick somebody to give a final rose to or look like a schmuck. Absolutely none of those women, with the possible exception of Faith, had any degree of attractiveness. A couple of them were flat out grotesque.
I’ve known several older couples who live in the same area but don’t want to live together so they both keep their homes. It sure helps with the idiosyncrasies we all have and can be hard to live with.

Logistics is huge here because the couples need to ask themselves and each other what their future living situation would look like. If you know you wouldn’t be able to move to be with someone they really shouldn’t start a long distance relationship.
