    I already learned a lot by watching this video and will love to see more videos of any projects you would sew with the coverstitch. I can follow the instructions from the book but you show the techniques of how to hold the fabrics and how to finish a garment that you can be proud of. Your finished work is one of the best I have seen. Thank you again for taking the time to post the videos.

      Melinda Matos do you have the correct needles? This machine takes HAx1 130/705 90/14 SUK BP. Buy then on eBay, you get 100 for 19.25 free shipping.

    • @Mellie726

      thankyou good to know, the company sent me schmetz size 14's which is still the 130/705 so yes I do have the correct needles but your suggestion is far less expensive. will do that for the future, thanks!

    • @jeanetteweger5518
      @jeanetteweger5518  6 років тому

      Melinda Matos if you start having issues, change needles especially if you sew knits. Just because the needles say 90/14 130/705 did not mean they are ballpoint, they are universal. When coverstitching knits you need ballpoint this the package should indicate SUK BP. If you start having skip stitches, replace the needles to the ones I told you about, needles are inexpensive so don't skimp, and change often, they don't stay sharp forever!!!!!

      I'm going I'm adding this right, when I go to serge on, I find the front, back and sides and place pins on both the band and the garment, then it's pretty much aligning the edges of the band to the game as you serge it on. I hope this makes sense trying to visualize what I'm saying. It's a matter of having the neckband piece aligned and even as you serge.

    Hi! Thanks for this video! Amazing quality!
    Do you have any tips for coverstitching over a neckband where you are stitching down the center of the seam of the neckband and shirt? (One needle on either side of the seam) I am struggling so much with that! I even have a foot for my coverstitch machine that is a center guide foot but I still can’t get it! I end up with skipped stitches every time, no matter how many times I try messing with tension, stitch length, and foot pressure. Does this machine require oiling?

    Jeanette, how wide is your serged seam? I have a 1/4" serged seam and the coverstitch doesn't cover the seam underneath. What am I doing wrong? I lined the foot up with the neck edge like you did. Help

      @@nonasboys My serged seams are pretty wide. You can feel as you sew where that edge is underneath and guide it to get a uniform stitch line all the way around. Just make sure the serged seam is just inside the far left needle and it will catch the edge. Don’t watch the needles, find a reference point and watch that and feel with your finger.

    Hi. Do you like this machine? would you recommend it?

      I like this machine very much, I actually have 2. It's easy to learn and use and as with anything you will need to practice and be patient while leaving. Most get frustrated and blame the machine but 99% of the time it's operator error.

      Jeanette Weger thank you 😊 And did you purchase any different feet? Other that it came with the machine? I have a serger so patience and practice go hand in hand.

      Yes, Brother has a skinnier foot for this machine that I use 100% of the time.

    How do you sewers out there afford these cover stitch or overlooking machines, they are expensive! 😅😂 sorry random comment but I’ve been dying for such a machine, love it!

    • @jeanetteweger5518

      It depends on what machine you want to invest in. You can buy one from around 300 all the way up into the thousands of Dollars. Don't judge a machine's performance by it's price, unfortunately many do. The machine does what the operator has it set up to do and depending on the volume of sewing you do should be factored in what machine you buy. Some classify the Brother 2340 machine as substandard, low end but, it does beautiful work!! So if you're thinking of getting a coverstitch and I highly recommend one to give your homemade items a more professional look, find a local sewing machine store where you can try some out. They may not carry all brands, they will nudge you to buy a particular brand as well but if you really want one you'll find a way to save the find to get one. Realistically some cost no more than your average sewing machine. Hope you decide to invest in one, they are game changers!!!!
