  • An incredible amount of heavy freight train activity around the Limestone workings of the Peak District. It's so busy with freight and all captured on a freight train photography day following the Limestone trains around Buxton. A start at Peak Forest Signal Box, before moving on to Great Rocks Junction, Tunstead Quarry, Harper Hill and after climbing to some great vantage points getting some fantastic Photographic scenic views around Topley Pike. The amount of rail freight is incredible coming out of these Limestone quarries around Buxton a freight railfan dream.
    My passion is railway photography and I think you would be hard-pressed to find a better location in the UK for freight train photography, this location has it all, plenty of freight trains, industrial and scenic settings and plenty of fantastic rail photography locations.
    Thank you to Nigel Capelle for guiding me to these superb railway locations - check out his superb Flickr site here:

    The book contains 14 chapters and 144 pages of photographs depicting the work of over 50 accomplished railway photographers with many different styles and approaches. It takes an alternative view on photographing the railway scene over the past 50 years.

    Thanks not only for sharing that footage/stills but the ideas for lineside locaions - much appreciated. Have searched over the years all sorts of places in Scotland and Salisbury-Exeter and other sections of line but not yet tried the Peak District. Late winter/early spring looks ideal as less foliage to get in the way. Thanks again.

      Glad it was helpful! April tends to be a great month, we've got over the winter cold and it can have some pleasant weather, plus the trees haven't come into leaf yet, an added bonus on our increasingly treed up railway.

    Another great film Andrew, thanks for producing and putting up. Coincidentally, just back from a short break with family to the Peak District. I managed a coiple of early morning trips to Peak Forest and like you, was amazed at the volume of freight moving around.
    I had to back to the Airbnb by 08.00 (otherwise family would have disowned me!) so was a bit limited to search out locations, however will head back there at some point in the future as there's so many great places to photograph.
    Thanks again, Andy

    • @AndrewShenton
      @AndrewShenton  2 роки тому

      Thanks Dan, I bend images if the conditions dictate, mostly evening and low light work is blended, this gives me the opportunity to stop the train generally with a high ISO value, then take another shot at a longer exposure and low ISO, blended later in photoshop. most of the shots in daytime as in this video aren’t blended, just processed in Lightroom.
