My oh my! Just like being there, and the editing and composition is excellent! Engaging, entertaining and educational - ticks all of the boxes for me Andrew. Your unique style shines through so brightly.
Thanks for that. I was reading a news report on the BBC about draw and co2, then I thought I’ll look for some pellet trains and your came up first. Nice to see clear not wobbleyvideo. David.
Thanks David, yes its incredible to think the Biomass travels across the Atlantic to various British ports then lengthy rail journeys from the likes of Newcastle, Liverpool, Hull and Immingham, when once it was coal from local collieries.
Your videos are a joy to watch Andrew, and you have a unique presentation style that works perfectly in my view! I certainly envy you having so much loco-hauled activity not far from your own doorstep. Well done indeed.
Thanks Tom, doing the videos plus the photography certainly keeps me on my toes, but it’s great fun and extends the enjoyment. Yes, really lucky with the variety of freight through Yorkshire.
An excellent set here, Andrew, just the job to brighten up a wet and grey morning in N. Wales, 24th May. Thanks for posting, keep safe, PeterDouglas🌞👌👏
Thank you very much Peter, there was plenty of Biomass with not too long a gap between workings. I thought the tractor noise in the background might be annoying, but the thing did help on that one image.
I work at Drax and so found this very interesting, particularly the alternative views of the plant itself. It looks very different when you are in the belly of the beast.... Thank you.
Interesting! judging by the amount of Biomass trains in, the beast needs to be constantly fed. I did fancy trying to join one of the tours around Drax, I’ve not checked if they are back up and running or still covid suspended.
@@AndrewShenton I'm quite lucky really, I sometimes get to spend my breaks next to the lines watching the coming and goings. I've loved diesel engines since I was a boy when I used to watch the Tilcon trains go past the back of our house in Skipton on their way up to Swinden Quarry on what I believe used to be the old Grassington line. There are some fantastic views up that way. As kids we used to walk along the track as far as we could, often for miles. There weren't many trains on that particular line in those days. This was late 70s/early 80s, I don't think you'd get away with it now... Happy days.
Brilliant video Andrew, very entertaining and some excellent footage. Even the music works perfectly and that’s not just the music of the class 66. Fantastic video and subscribed for more! all the best, Paul
Many thanks, Paul, it's a great line (if Biomass freight is your thing) I was so lucky to catch it on such a pleasant spring day. Thanks for subscribing too, I'll be doing plenty more over the coming months now lockdown is easing. I've had a looks at your channel and subscribed, I see you've a few from Peak Forest, I was over that way earlier this week, now that is a freight hotspot.
Thanks Marcus, an enjoyable day exploring the various compositions, now we are free to move, i'll be back on a less sunny day, I’m not one for photography in full sun.
Great video and photos, Eggborough has now been flattened, sadly, as Fiddlers Ferry, Nottingham area only has Drax working, hopefully for the immediate future and beyond…
Fabulous video Andrew, it sure is a hotspot for freight that line into Drax, must try it out some time. Brilliant shots too, and I loved that one of 60002 at the end. Great stuff.
Thanks Pete, that 60 at the end is a perfect one to be cropped for instagram, get over here when you can there’s plenty of traffic through Knottingley.
Hi, great video with some useful information on locations. I live in North Cave and did a day at Hensall last week. I've subscribed to your channel. Nice one
Just found your channel Andrew, and wow, love it. This is the first one so can’t wait to see what else you have. I’m hoping for some stone workings as well. Love your style and looking forward to seeing more. Best regards, Rob aka Carlettbrook
Thanks Rob, that's great I’m pleased you found my photography, i’ve been active on Flickr for quite a while, but wanted to bring to life the background in getting the shot. I’ve plenty of other outings planned mow that lockdown is lifting.
Just found your site Andrew; very interesting and informative. I especially like the way you combine the video with the photo. My favourite here is the Cl.66 at 07:20; the tractor balances the shot very well and adds a human element to the proceedings.
Thanks Peter, the purpose of the channel is to get a behind the scenes look at my railway photography, so I’m pleased you’ve enjoyed it. Yes, that tractor, for the video I was hoping for a bit more peace and quiet, but it did get into an idea position as the train arrived. I think that one and the Class 60 at the end are my favourite two of the day.
Hi Andrew, I have watched this video so many times, I think it is great. I now have a question... what do you use to know the timetable of the trains you photograph it seems very accurate
Many thanks for watching, the two websites I use are www.realtimetrains.co.uk and www.railcam.uk/, railcam is a small subscription real time trains is free, both great for finding the train workings.
Cheers Andrew for your quick reply and good timing as we have just visited all the places in your video and a bit of platform work at Barnetby. We have now got realtime on our phones and my mate has signed up for Railcam and that is excellent. What a lovely Station Hensall is by the way. Cheers mate
Wonderful video Andrew! I’ve been wanting to get into still rail photography for a while. Beginner question, how do you track where freight trains will be and their schedules? Thanks
Many thanks James, there's a couple of free websites to track trains www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/detailed/ just put in your location and search for running trains, or use traksy.uk/live for track diagrams and live running information. I might do a video on these at some point.
Thanks Andrew, I use Railcam railcam.uk the train running information and track diagrams, this is a annual subscription. A popular free website/app is Realtime Trains www.realtimetrains.co.uk use the detailed tab to keep an eye on all freight and passenger workings for a location. Or try traksy.uk/live this site has free track diagrams and train workings. I hope that helps.
Thanks Derek, yes the coal fired Ferrybridge PS has been decommissioned, the train to Ferrybridge was an inbound Gypsum train, there’s actually a Plasterboard Factory on the Ferrybridge site. As for the number of Biomass trains into Drax, I don’t know, but as a casual observer it seems to vary day to day, although the day of my visit was particularly busy with trains in from Immingham, Hull, Tyne dock and Liverpool.
@@AndrewShenton thanks Andrew!! I never knew there was a plaster board factory there! I was aware of the fibreglass factory around near Knottingley! Thanks for watching Michael, really appreciated.

Thanks Andy, pity we missed it this winter, it would have been great in the cold and snow capturing all the steam coming of Drax.
Nice video just love GBRF Livery so smart
Thank you John, yes, GBRf do have a great livery and quite a variety of special liveries too.
Just come across your videos and I’m really enjoying them 👍
Glad to hear it Jeremy and much appreciated.
The new video was very nice .Hope to see more .Take care.
Thanks Dave, yes I’ll be doing more now lockdown is lifting.
Found your channel this morning, me and the missus really enjoyed your Rylstone to Skipton video. New sub from me great work Andrew.

Thanks and welcome, sorry its taken a while to acknowledge - life has got in the way - back to railway photography soon.
Andrew I have just stumbled across your channel & video and I have to thank you for a wonderfully documented and presented video
Glad you enjoyed it, I need to get back to the Drax line soon.

Loads of freight working up there and some great images captured too. Like the one with the tractor. Top film as ever.

As a kid the Tilcon was a regular through my local station, just south of Leeds, back then I’d no idea where the trains came from or went to.
Today’s diesel locomotives have all the charisma of a refrigerator, 10 out of 10 for the videos though
I know what you mean, but we’ve to go with what we’ve got, glad you liked the videos too.

Drax really spent $$$ to put nature decals and "Pioneers" on EVERY wagon
It does look like it, quite an exercise just for freight wagons, but there’s no mistaking the ones going to Drax power Station.

Thanks for the sub! I’ll have a look at your channel also, there’s some great locations around here and i’ll be back soon.
There's also a Drax Biomass power station in Carrington. Trains to/from it run through Skelton junction in Timperley where I live.
Thank James, very interesting, I’m going to have to look that one up!
The Drax trains through Timperley are between Liverpool (imported from North America) to Drax, not to a local power station

So it's basically switching over from burning coal... to burning trees.

I can only agree, only a few years ago, coal trains travelled just a few miles from the local collieries, now fuel comes half way around the world.
