Brilliant! Memories of working with MGR’s at Fiddlers & Silverdale. BR thrashed those ”Choppers”, still going though, just a few, testament to that great British company English Electric, sadly no more.
Great stuff and memories, thanks. I remember going all the way from Sevenoaks, Kent to spend the day spottin MGR traffic at Retford, only for there to of been a 4.5 hour power failure at Worksop, by which time it was getting dark by the time the back-logged onslaught started lol! I wasn't too happy eh hehe. . . At least i can look back and say, having had the honour of a loco-driver for a girlfriend briefly, many years later, made up for that! And all the other bad days out in 25 years of spottin! :D
We’ve all grown use to the sight of 20s on our railways, still, but when you think about it they are a bit like birds being the descendants of dinosaurs! All the other similarly designed pilot scheme locos had gone by the 70s, often only having a life span in the tens of months. They were unlike any other loco on the network with their archaic body design (single cab), low power, etc., but their usefulness was unparalleled, especially in pairs.
the 2 class 20s ar 2 mins 30 looked like they was struggling with this coal train up that hill but they wasn't! never underestimate what these little EE loco's are capable of!!! Good old-school video also nice to see some class 58 loco plus some grid action 🥰😍🤩
You are right there my friend, they were a very capable little Engine. Here in Liverpool, we used to have Four of them on the 45 sets of HAA`S out of the docks, up the steep incline of The Bootle Branch, they used to make some sweet Music. At Night, you could hear them miles away.
loved these little whistling beast loco's I miss the Tinsley Tmd days in the mid 1980s as there was always 6 or more choppers chirping away to each other at the depot!!! I will never forget them days as a kid i was about 12 best days ever!!! 🥰😍🤩
@johnbradshaw7525 exactly.... when and where did all that shit start and come from? I remember when any graffitti even on toilet walls was serious crime!
Thank you for sharing such a great video brings back lots of great memories.
This is a great reference for freight and mgr modellers. Thanks for posting. Oh what if they had camera capabilities and clarity of today!
Never really saw 58s in action like that. Work and life started to get in the way before they came into full use.
Great footage.

Love the grid at 5:45 putting the hammers on 👊
Some great footage. I used to maintain the signalling on this area. Up to 100 coal trains I’d see in a single shift. Nothing now.
I well remember visiting Shirebrook and Worksop. Great area for freight trains.
That was excellent, some great memories.
Indeed!

Think it’s around Shirebrook mate…..
We need to get back to coal 😢
Look, no Graffitti, when Britain was still mostly British and still civilised
I hate seeing rolling stock covered in graffiti.

@@rsqyoung it probably came across from the US
And we had proper trains.
