As promised here is the guide to movement in general in Tekken 8! We will talk the basics, why the backdash is so important to begin with(tekken backdashes don't work like other game backdashes...) and some of the more famous movement techniques like Backdash Canceling aka Korean Backdashes, and wavedashing! Give the vid a watch, like if you liked it, and otherwise enjoy!
It’s hard to believe but this is the only tutorial that mention WHY every movement option is useful in the first minute of each section. This video should go to the textbook.
Alrighty most of the general guides now done. I think next video will be covering how to use practice mode effectively and after that maybe some character stuff? Open to suggestions as well if you think there's a topic that should be covered thats feasible for a guide. When thats all said and done, maybe I can finally play the game lol
I’d love a video on characters for different archetypes and why. Like 2 for each archetype (for beginners?). Or even how to choose a character. I know you have a video describing them but I don’t know how that relates to me. Also a guide for easy execution characters. I really love your videos.
I didn't realize you can sidestep block. I liked arcade quest but wish it explained more about how movement works in the game. Luckily rooflemonger has us covered
To be fair these are kinda complex technical techniques that are legacy skills and not really needed to enjoy or play tekken, the arcade quest wouldn’t really cover this cause some instances are character specific, Arcade quest is more universal for every character. I understand what you’re saying but you’re def gonna wanna UA-cam for stuff like this
How’d you not think of side step block. Its not something you really think of you’re just sidestepping then you’re about to get hit so you block. Are you a bot?
These guides have been absolutely fantastic, and have helped me really get a feel for a bunch of esoteric mechanics that, let's be real, Tekken has never been super great at explaining for the most part. It's absolutely criminal that this channel doesn't have as many subs as it absolutely should. Your content is always great Really love the Tekken and Granblue Versus content in particular.
I play using a ps4 controller and the tip for the kbd has really improved my input, and I've gotten pretty consistent with the wave dash as well thanks to this guide. Thank you so much for the guide.
Homie you put out some of the best guides for FGs out there. I swear everytime a new FG is coming out you have tons of helpful stuff out the same day. Keep it up King ❤
Your work is invaluable for the community man: I'm a legacy player, intermediate level in general, and I learned things from you. Always a joy to watch your videos.
best FG channel period.. thx for everything buddy I don't even play Tekken but I'm fascinated by the amount of knowledge and time you put into each video.. maybe not the most popular FG UA-camr but definitely the best of them all
Thanks for the backdash tips! For a newbie like me, nothing feels as hopeless as matching with a Kazuya online that's just sliding around the map a million miles an hour when you can barely move at all
I used to struggle with Tekken's movement, as I used to get accidental crouches or jumps by holding down and up just a bit too long, and I couldn't maintain space off a backdash for the life of me, but after really understanding how to do movement in this game, I grew to appreciate it more and more. I know regular backdashes are much more usable here compared to the past games, but I still intend to refine my backdash cancels to make sure I bait and whiff punish incoming attacks.
I do wish the in-game tutorial laid this stuff out in a bit more detail. There are specific things I was looking to see if they would touch on which, unfortunately, they didn't. As such, you are an absolute champ for throwing things like this together. Please keep it up. You have all my support! 👊🏾
Just wanted to tell you thanks for covering all these topics for both tekken 8 as well as other fighting games. Your videos are both entertaining and educating :)
Watching high-level players make their opponents whiff through subtle movement, only to punish them a split-second later, is one of the most satisfying things to watch. Thanks for dedicating a video to this topic.
Not new to the series, but definitely needed a refresher in movement. I'm really digging your vids and your incredibly welcoming tone. Thanks for your hard work!
Great vid man! So much of this stuff is like second nature for those of us who play these games, and the game treats these important core things like players must already know them so it doesn't bother explaining.
Glad you mentioned the up back. That’s how I learned how to do it with Bryan back in the day on PS2 pad. I didn’t know the proper notation until later on but I would tap up back neutral and back and repeat .
I am not intimidated by ranked, is there a hiddel elo I need to be aware of or is ranked one of those things you should try and play as soon as possible?
Thank you for including levetlrss in the BD Canceling section. It was exactly what I was looking for. Been playing leverless for like 7 months, but first time trying it in Tekken. As I suspected, I was in the wrong Socd mode lol
You have been preparing videos since the day the game was released, and all of them are detailed videos. I've been following you since SF6 came out, and I especially liked your SF6 and MK1 videos. However, Tekken 8 videos are definitely in a very different class. Each of them is a video with a lot of effort put into it and will enlighten players who are new to the Tekken series. Moreover, I know that Tekken is a game that is much more complicated, much deeper than other games and may take years to learn. Of course, it is not possible to implement everything you show in these videos, but just knowing that they exist is actually enough. At least these videos make me be more careful about what people do, even if I can't do it myself. I thank you once again. I also recently watched a video of you reviewing the controllers you use. Furthermore, I bought a Hitbox (leverless) for SF6 and it definitely made things easier. But I think I need to buy an Arcade Stick for Tekken 8. I don't know why, but I feel like the controls of the game would be easier with a stick instead of a leverless controller. Could you have a comment about this? I'm really confused about this...
well for me leverless is much easier than stick. Stick can be great, but you need a stick that is specifically good for tekken. bat top helps, high spring tension.
A tip for the more advanced mishima players: a change from Tekken 7 is that you can now run out of wavedash and you can wavedash out of run. It is not new to wavedash out of run but you could only do it from a limited distance. This could get you an approaching electric if timed right. With the new change you can no go full screen as a Mishima and always be able to hit no matter where you intercept them. To do this just wavedash then run out of wavedash. You now have access to your wave dash while running moves full screen.
Good stuff, man. Learned a lot of new stuff, and I've been playing for a while now! The community isn't always helpful, so it's such a treasure to find content like this. Thanks!
If you play on traditional Japanese lever and balltop like I do. The easiest way to kbdc is to put your thumb on the on the left hand side and your middle finger on the top left hand side of the ball top. Holding it that way will allow you to easily hit back with your thumb and down back with your middle finger.
History lesson, Hayashida step was very effective in Tekken 4 . It allowed Nina to compete with top tier Jin. You can do instant while standing by doing qcb or push db quickly and release .
A big tip for backdash cancelling on keyboard. I'm using one myself and struggled for the longest time to conquer this technique, especially if I'm on the right side. Actually, it appears that on keyboard it's quite easy. You just do a normal backdash once, then after that hold the back key, while alternately pressing down and FORWARD buttons. Yes, you heard me correctly. Back and forward actions cancel out, as in the game thinks you're not pressing anything and your character stays still. Then you release forward, it's a back input again. Then you press down, and it's a down-back. Then release down, it's back again, and press forward, they cancel out again. Rince and repeat. You're welcome :) P.S. I can't get over how Azucena does the Floss. She's such a troll character lmao
Damn the SOCD method on the KBD actually blew my mind. I've been struggling to try to brute force it on leverless, definitely will try it out, thanks for the BIG tip.
idk if u plan on doing full character guides but would love to see a steve one, just bought the game n him and reina are looking like the ones i wanna main and would love to see you do guides since theyve been so much easier than others to comprehend especially being super new to the game
Been casually playing tekken since Tekken 3. Dude i had no idea about these. Thank you. Now to secretly practise and destroy my friends when we meet up 🔥 😂
Thanks so much for this, movement is what I most struggle with so this is helpful. When you start doing your character guides do you have any plans for covering any of the Mishimas like Reina
Thanks roofle. Ive been using pad for tekken 8. Decided earlier today to order a leverless. Always hate quickly and repeatedly tapping inputs with just my thumb. Find i drop 1 2 combos a lot or mess up run moves at close range. Not fast enough with just with my thumb.
