as someone who never played Tekken before and got curious with Tekken 8's release, this was super helpful. Love the no intro and straight forward video style.
This is by far THE BEST beginner reference I have seen so far. You speak slowly enough and don't repeat the same things over and over. You're organized. This was phenomenal! Thank you so much.
been wanting to get into fighting games for a bit so tried the demo and got a vague sense of the mechanics through the tutorials / just trying things out, but this was so much more helpful in getting me confident with the mechanics. thank you! think i’ll finally dive into this series
so taking this video's views as values of new players wanting to get into tekken given that this day one guide is the first high value and probably the best t8 one out right now makes me so happy. 10k new faces there since day one who i may meet since we are all starting out fresh again is fantastic and I'd fucking love to see some of you guys climbing your way up and meeting you again in higher ranks. man I'm pumped for t8. don't get salty and have lots of fun my guys! let's make this shit memorable
Right now I'm only assailant it's my first tekken game starting 3 days ago, and I can't lie even when I get shit on sometimes going up rank its most the most fun I've had in a fighting game in a long time. Learning new attacks to put into combos, or how to punish better, everything in the game so far is just insanely fun and really cool to learn as I play
Just got it on sale after buying a fight stick. Really excited to get into it, been wanting to since 7 when I was younger and T8 is my first traditional fighting game!
Thank you so much for supporting the newcomers, been a fan of your channel for a while and i think its super good of you to take your time for others sake. THANK YOU ❤
You have the best Tekken tutorials! Easy to understand and comprehensive. Hope you continue to make more. Been watching your videos for years now since Tekken 7. They've helped me out tons.
super informative. i’ve been casually playing tekken for 12 or so years, starting with tekken tag 2 and then going back and playing 3-7. when 8 came out i decided i wanted get better and not just button mash, but like someone else said, learning this game is like climbing a mountain. im glad i stumbled onto your channel! i never knew inputting 3+4 on the ground initiated the jump kick! subscribing now!!!
My buddy wanted to get Tekken but none of our other friends play, so now I have Tekken. Thank you, I have absolutely no clue what I'm doing and this is very helpful lol
Thanks, Zug. Ive been wanting to get into Tekken forever now and just never had the things to do play before and Im excited to finally start my journey, this guide is going to help alot as a jumping off point. Cant wait to learn from you all❤❤❤❤
I would consider myself pretty good at fighting games, but I've never tried Tekken until now, and man I've never got destroyed this badly in any other game
This is one of the clearer and more useful intro tutorials for Tekken I've seen, I'll definitely be linking this to anyone I can get on the game. Great job!
The man the myth! The legend himself ❤ Learned t7 in s4 with help of your videos from literally scratch and got to tekken king in last day of tekken 7. Thank you for that.
13:36 the music is “World 3: Ocean” from Super Monkey Ball 2 and it hit my brain like a truck as I spent a whole minute trying to think of where I had heard it before, quite a few years ago 😆😄
Oh my goodness! I’ve been looking for such a video for so long. Other guides speak too quickly or have footage that don’t isolate the mechanic of discussion
Very good video - sometimes beginner guides ive seen are still too advanced for beginners so I think you've nailed it in terms of the true basics for people with 0 fighting game knowledge.
Tekken tag and Tekken 3 were my jam. Long time beginner button masher 😂 but this the first Tekken in a long time or any fighting game really that i went out and bought day 1 and really said I'm gonnna try to actually learn how to play. Loving it but been doing a lot of PvP with my kids we are having a blast. Brings back memories of times when games were fun.
Tekken 7 was my first fighting game. While watching the video, I realized the game has large amount of mechanics, especially when compared to SF (which my tekken brain thinks is a difficult game). Excellent video, and good luck to the new and returning players.
There are special mids and special lows if im not mistaken. Special lows are what is explained in the video Special mids are blockable by both guards but cannot be low parried
16:30 "If you happen to utilize heat engager": the move that gives the "Bound" is Heat Burst, not Heat Engager. New players might get confused by this detail, so I wanted to clarify.
Having played tekken 3 and just smashing buttons when I was a kid and then coming from Mortal Kombat1 this game seems hard AF lol. But I just copped it so I’m a jump into the deep end this weekend 😂 😊
You should refer to it as while standing instead of while rising. I know the move list doesn't do this, but it's much easier to notate as WS so that you don't get a confused by calling it. WR because this could mean while running.
Thanks for this video! Love tekken when i was a kid but havent played since maybe the first or second game. Thisbis so damn fun. Playing on a ps5 controller. If i get really into fughting games afain maybe ill upgrade to an arcade style pad or the button style
I’ve loved Tekken for decades…. And now I know why my feverish button mashing works. 😂 I was simply going from a ground mid air running balanced forward attack into my mid cancel dash rage heat mode furry attack. 😂😂😂. Seriously though…. I never knew these games were this involved. It’s probably why I enjoy playing them, even though I’m admittedly horrible at them.
This is another great explanation of all the things you can do in Tekken. No offense to you or all the other videos… I don’t want to know WHAT all the things I can do are, I want to know HOW to use them! I am a total noob and I just want know how I should be playing! What does that look like, where should I be spending my time, how much should I be pouring over the move lists etc. If I am learning to drive a car, i want to know how, not what every component of the car does in extreme detail.
How you should be playing is VERY specific on what character you picked. Fundamental guides like these gives you the knowledge to actually understand more advanced guide. Skipping them is like trying to be a Japanese lawyer without even knowing how to speak Japanese. Anyway, I think what you're looking for is also Massive Zugg's (this channel's) video "Tekken Training". It's for Tekken 7 but also applies to Tekken 8. It'll give you an idea on what to work on and how as a beginner. After that, my advice is to watch a guide for your specific character. Focus on learning their top 5 moves, 2 standing punishes, 2 crouching punishes and 1 simple combo. Then hop on ranked and get beat up. Your goal should be applying what you learned not winning. Once you get confident that you are actually using the things you learned, then learn another top 5 moves, 1 combo for that one launcher you always accidentally do online, and 1 wall combo. Rinse and repeat until you are confident you are applying most things in the character guide you watched. Just note that doing what I suggested will probably take you a long time (a week to a month). You'll probably lose online a lot, but your focus should be in learning your character. You won't be winning races if you don't know how to pilot your car after all. Only climb the ranks for real once you are confident with your mastery of your character. Also watch PeterYMao's "Top 5 Rank Mistakes Made in Tekken 7" if you got stuck climbing ranks.
Man, learning this game feels like climbing a mountain lol.
That’s what makes it so much fun, always something to learn and improve on
@@fishy2588 totally agree. I love how well the game teaches you all the mechanics.
just know that as a beginner your gonna lose aloooot but its worth it
@myjokeisfunny-laugh yeeeeahh I'm doing a lot of losing right now..but it's cool quickest way for me to learn
@@AnGelus04 havent played t8 yet but, apparently the arcade quest helps with learning the game
Return of the king
For a channel that has gone so up and down in views, you really do consistently produce top tier content. Thank you.
as someone who never played Tekken before and got curious with Tekken 8's release, this was super helpful.

Bro those button notations saved my life, i didnt know what those letters or numbers meant when i was watching combo tutorials
been wanting to get into fighting games for a bit so tried the demo and got a vague sense of the mechanics through the tutorials / just trying things out, but this was so much more helpful in getting me confident with the mechanics. thank you! think i’ll finally dive into this series
A massive dub from the Massive Zug.

I'm so glad you are still making videos.
I knew very little about how Tekken works prior to watching this, so I found it very helpful for understanding 👍
Thank you so much for supporting the newcomers, been a fan of your channel for a while and i think its super good of you to take your time for others sake. THANK YOU ❤
Indeed THE most massive zug around, thank you for your work work!
This guide is pure gold. Thank you very much for compiling this, it is going to help so much newcomers!
love your straight to the point guides :)

Dude I’ve been binging your taken 7 vids to prepare for 8
You’re the GOAT
Really appreciated this as a Tekken novice. This video cleared up a lot of concepts that I didn't quite grasp from the game's built-in tutorials.
YO! You made Tekken 7 really easy for me to get into coming from 2D, love to see you back for T8!
I would consider myself pretty good at fighting games, but I've never tried Tekken until now, and man I've never got destroyed this badly in any other game
Oh man thanks for being a part of the community. Your Tekken 7 videos really helped me out when I was first learning T7 ❤

This game is so intimidating
MassiveZug is an absolute treasure to the growing Tekken community ❤
Just when we needed him most, he came back
Oh my goodness! I’ve been looking for such a video for so long. Other guides speak too quickly or have footage that don’t isolate the mechanic of discussion
yessssssssssss a zug video, this is a pretty good weekend
good to see u post bruh used to love your content in tekken 7
Welcome back man.
Missed your content.
coming from MK1 to this has been such a learning curve especially when i have never played tekken at all in my life
Very good video - sometimes beginner guides ive seen are still too advanced for beginners so I think you've nailed it in terms of the true basics for people with 0 fighting game knowledge.
This is an excellent beginner’s guide! Thanks for making this, I hope all the new players stick to the game!

beginner here, any other beginner tips / guides you can recommend
Nice video man. More beginner videos are welcome. Maybe even some commentary where you break down some moves
Tekken 7 was my first fighting game. While watching the video, I realized the game has large amount of mechanics, especially when compared to SF (which my tekken brain thinks is a difficult game).
Excellent video, and good luck to the new and returning players.
Tekken has more mechanics?
@@Reallyjoyboyfrespecially the move sets in tekken are far superior to streetfighter
@@Reallyjoyboyfreasily
SF6 combos almost feel more difficult to execute, or at least the timing of the links feels way more unforgiving due to a lack of launchers.
@@Reallyjoyboyfr After watching a similar video made by this channel about sf6, yes.
10:04 kazuya mains loved that advice
Excellent video mate, very good, very well explained...thanks
U are a very underrated tutorial channel thank you
thank you Zug learned a bit for T7 off of your vids (was just a beginner/button masher) and now with T8 I want to get to an "advanced" player
There are special mids and special lows if im not mistaken.
Special lows are what is explained in the video
Special mids are blockable by both guards but cannot be low parried
perfect guide exactly what i was looking for ❤❤❤
First like then watching. Everyone whos new here, you will LEARN and ENJOY same as i did.
Happy to see you back again
Incredible video, thank you!
12:38 i think you got it in reverse. SW is 1+2 and looks like 1+2. But it's GS that's 1 but looks like 1+2.
You are a legend, thank you for all you do man 🎉
This is a goat of a guide. Mad props sir.
The Zug is back and he is more massive than ever
Incredible Guide! Subbed!
I recommend looking up the wakeup guide for Tekken 7. It talks about all the different rolls.
Glad to see a new upload!
16:30 "If you happen to utilize heat engager": the move that gives the "Bound" is Heat Burst, not Heat Engager. New players might get confused by this detail, so I wanted to clarify.
I like how you mentioned the bound system and refuse to elaborate. 16:31
Hope to see more from you, Mr. The Zug!

Is that bomberman hero music I hear as the background?!
Awesome vid, bro!!
6:39 isn't heat smash 2+3? I think what you put is the universal rage art command
I am grateful that you made this❤
thanks for gettin right into it
Welcome back dude!!!
Your video is way better than the roof dude. He talks like i know these concepts.
Zug is back. Today is a good day.
This was very informative and helpful, thanks.

UF+1+2 is also a generic throw for all characters that must be broken with a 1+2
