I used to grind feed with an 1850 oliver and it worked great. our grinder mixer was a little bit bigger than your. this brought back a lot of memories.

Those old tractors just pull and work that's what they do I really love seeing them work I had my jubilee out yesterday doing some brush hogging by the road still 6 volt with the Sherman trans I restored her from the ground up I had 3 people stop and ask if it was for sale not a chance in hell I'm selling her love running these old tractors it's fun great vid the Deere was impressive
The Old JD 2 cylinder's had more torque than horsepower. :D The old iron, best way to go IMHO but, then again, wouldn't have the luxury that we have in the newer tractors of today. I'd take a pair of 720's/730's diesels or gas, any day.
The old feed grinder brings back memories. When I was a little chap, my uncle lost the top of his finger in the grinder because he took the cover off and then turned it on and didn't stop it while putting the cover back on.
my dad used to use his 720 all the time doing that it was our biggest tractor before he got out of farming in 1973 all he had was john deere he had A's , B's , G's and the 720
My White 2-70 (same as Oliver 1655, about 70 HP) runs a Gehl MX120 just as well as that 730 does. Methinks the 1755 had more issues when you got it than had been disclosed.

gotta love your old JD's one thing they have is crazy torque. even my little Model L has a ton of torque and will out work any other 10hp tractor you find these days

Do you throw any Hay into the grinder for fill? We always love the polled Hereford. They had NO horns which was best and they were like big puppies (especially the ones we broke) but even the wild ones were very calm compared to maybe an Angus or especially a Holstein.
Allthough the 720 has "only" 59 HP, i really do think it has a massive amount of torqeu for that 59 HP. Don't know what the displacement is of that thing, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's more then that other tractor who couldn't run that machine? Like you American fella's like to say: There is no substitude for cubic inches. That's why my 1960 800 HP @ 380 revs Deutz will allways win from a modern engine of the same HP. It will never stop pulling, same as the good ol' JD 720. ;-) You should work those old beasts more often, Wes!
My little Deutz 3006 pulls harder than any 30hp tractor I've ever driven. It sips fuel while doing so too. Great little machine. A powerhouse for the size.
Hi wes if she aint smokin you got some sleeping Deere in there L.O.L, she was working nice at that pace, would be a shame to crank it down some more, and wreck something. my buddy had a cranked up tractor on his mixer Used to wreck the mixer, so he stopped using that tractor never had any more problems. We had a steer, when I was growing up, that you couldn't keep in the pasture. Didn't matter what the fence was. If he decided he wanted what was on the other side, he went through it. We started with nylon electric. Worked great on the old docile milk cow. There were apple trees in our pasture. She didn't give a shit about what was outside the fence. Then we got this steer. We went up to steel electric. He went through it. We went to Triple strand barbed wire with two strands of steel electric. He still went through it. He'd make a run and hold his head up and plow through it chest first. I can't count the number of hours I spent smearing Rawleighs Salve on that silly bastard.
Uh oh I see a very bad thing... Someone left the clutch disengaged on the big Deere... Grandpa and Dad always taught me you MUST put the tractor in neutral and reengage the hand clutch when doing stationary work, or just idling the tractor... otherwise you'll burn out the clutch bearings in no time. They weren't designed to sit for long periods with the hand clutch disengaged. Otherwise looks and runs great! Later! OL J R :)
that ol 720 sounds pretty good ,, it even has a pony start which I've always thought were cooler than electric start tractors it didn't seem to be working hard at all I'll bet my 1755 oliver wouldn't have trouble running that mixer/grinder 6-71T detroit power ,, helps A LOT with that ,,, I hated the waukeshaw diesel ,JUNK it had before
I'm trying to restore my grandfather's 430 John Deere. All is good except for the sheet metal. It was rolled a few times, so it needs a hood, nose and hood mounts. Maybe I can dig replacements up somewhere.

It doesn't matter what breed of cattle you raise they all will jump fences or get out its all in how they are raised and treated by the owner, I've raised Charolais all my life and never had a problem with them.

yeah one year our one unloader fell and that is not a nice sound hearing that come back down. we fixed the thing and it worked fine but never used it sence.
I had 2 cows escape on me yesterday I was out in the back field brush hogging and my phone rang my neighbor is frantically chasing them while screaming at me to get out front to help they are smart little buggers
having trouble with the cows jumping the fence ,,, give them a shock they will never forget I have a 2500 volt fence to keep deer out of my garden ,, and my neighbor uses one to keep his goats from jumping the fence ,, it will give them a really good ZAP and they won't forget ,,although they might ,, cows lack a good memory for some stupid reason I know my dog won't go near it ,,, stupid dog lifted it's leg and peed on it ,,he got a good shock and I swear he jumped 4 feet in the air before yelping like he'd been shot in the ass and running screaming for the house

You have to raise the silo unloader to the top before you fill the silo with silage. Otherwise you have to pitchfork it all out by hand... Later! OL J R :)

my 60 didn't like being on our model 95 gehl grinder.Got up to 200 grinding ear corn.Thanks for the video Wes!

I think he term you want is "There is no replacement for displacement." That massive flywheel on the side of the Deere engine helps, too.

It's got the torque at the sweet spot that the grinder is working. Probably a lower RPM than the higher HP tractor peak torque.

Wes, the 720, 730, 820, and 830 engines produce huge foot pounds of torque.
The 720 puts out 59 imperial horse power.

my guess is the smaller tractor has a different gearing on the power takeoff , it should give it some more torque at the cost of some speed
We use to grind ear corn that ground harder then shelled corn added soybean meal salt and dried molasses and about 5 good bales of hay

we used to run a Allis Chalmers 180 on a mixer grinder that was twice the size of yours keep in mind the tractor is only 60 to 70 horse

Did you have a screen in the mixmill we used to grind corn with no screen yours looked like it was pretty fine

I think its the torque not the horse power off the engine that makes the tractor work hard.
you should use the 720 more often, its very good on the pto to be fair. nothing wrong with using old equipment :)

the 720 is an ass kicker and charlaise are psycho. I've had pureblood and they only got worse if I crossed them. More 2-cylinder please.
2 cyl tractor will will keep up with any 4 cyl 10 to 12 hp greater

Low maintenance two bangers would have run the John Deere company out of business. Engineers fixed that with the quad-range.

HP has nothing to do with it, the torque is what keeps it running, those two poppers have a looonnnggg stroke = llooottttssss of torque...
