Thanks so much for the kind words. I did the tuning...although to be honest, there wasn't a lot of tweaking that needed to be done on them. That Tama/Aquarian combo just sounded great whether you took them up or down in tuning. And I'll agree with you...their engineers and production team are top notch. They made the work an absolute breeze.
Love this! Self taught "drummer" here for 25 years, just starting to play at church after not playing on a stage for almost 20 years. Having names for fills will definitely help me when trying to learn all these new songs. Never used fill names before, but I'm about to start! Will steal some of yours and make up some of my own names, thanks! Also liked how you talked about simplifying when you need to. I have those days where my foot does not want to double up very well for some reason. "Why won't you work today?!" Always thought that I was the only one that happens to.
A month ago, I was watching a lesson on Stephen's channel and thought: "How awesome would it be if Stephen and Jared connected"... Few weeks later I saw a clip of him playing in the Drumeo studio on Faceboo, and now I found out he has been working as satellite instructor for 3 years already!!! What can I say but, thank You, God! God bless you all!
I love your tape!,! Now is the end of my second year. Started in October. Getting ready for my second recital. Am calling it "Fourth Bar Fills". Still love it. I still love it. Will be 75 in January. Thank you again! Bettina
Fantastic lesson. Am a senior Love drumming. October is the end of my second yr. My second recital is called Fourth Bar Fills. Thank you for your Easy To Remember fills. I surprised my teacher last week with the Eighth note Build. I sneaked it in. He looked happy, he knows I practice a lot. Thanks again. Bettina
I just wanted to say you’re a great teacher. I teach high school English, and want to learn to play the drums. I love your use of rhythmic mnemonics. You’re a better teacher than more than 90% of the teachers I know. Keep doing what you’re doing. You’ve. Inspired me to get an e-drum kit for myself on my birthday in January and get serious about drumming. I feel like I can analogize what you say about playing the drums to what I do for a living: trying to get teenagers give a f-- about reading literature. Thank you for what you do. Chris
I started playing drums in the 60's and I knew every one of the fills you showed. I have played them so many times that they are just a part of my unconscious drumming library. All of them are very useful fills and beginning and ending and turnaround fills for many songs. The six stroke roll fills are very useful and have been played thousands of times. This is a great lesson to give any drummer who needs to start a library of licks. Thank you for showing it...I was pleasantly surprised to see you showing licks that I have been playing all my life, and I am 68 years old!
Wow that solo at the end was downright phenomenal. Perfection at it's finest. Excellent arrangement, dynamics, execution and overall performance. Beyond impressive! A real polished Masterpiece!
Stephen, your 10 drum fills has been really, really helpful for me to practice. I watch this video over and over again trying to master all your techniques. I played for 5 years in school and had a cheap trap set, as was called in those days. Your style and timing, on the drums is so incredible and it really sounds great. I hope I can master your fills and sound half as good as you do.
Been a follower of @Stephen Taylor's UA-cam channel for a few years now. This is one of the most practical and easy to apply lessons I've ever seen on the Drumeo UA-cam channel. Keep up the great work guys.
Thank you very much for an excellent lesson. Drumeo, I wonder if you guys realise how much you are doing for people who don't have money or opportunity for personal drum instructors. Thank you very, very much.

Thank you, Mr. Taylor! Love your style Sir! This was a fantastic lesson. Really enjoyed it. I'm a church drummer and got turned on to your stuff when I saw your lesson on, you guessed it, drumming in church. Your lessons are practical, relevant, and also humorous. It's so nice to see a working drummer that values a "less is more" approach. Not that you can't drop bombs when you need too! I appreciate your humility, but also your obvious passion for playing. Be blessed, brother!
Top to bottom, that's one of the best sounding drumkits I've ever heard. Stephen Taylor=top notch drummer, great teacher, and seems like a really solid dude.
Hey, I am a new drummer. This might seem like a dumb question. What do you do to get rid of the buzz caused by the snare wires when you hit other drums? Mostly when I hit my air toms the snare wires go crazy. I realize this buzzing is characteristic of an accoustic drum set but I would like to reduce it. I have done my best to tune all the drums and when I turn the snare wires off, everything but the snare itself sounds beautifully clean. But of course I need that snare buzz when I hit the snare. Is there a way to achieve that clean recording sound without compromising the snare's sound?
No dumb questions. That's called sympathetic buzz. It's what your snare is made to do...buzz when a certain vibrational frequency is hit. That being said, it is no respecter of where that frequency is coming from (tom, your voice, etc). Your drums are tuned within the same range. Try cranking the bottom head of your snare up a bit. An old studio trick to do it on the fly is to turn the lugs (4 of them) to the left and right of the snare wire on the bottom head (both sides...hence the number 4) a quarter turn down or up. Keep doing that until the buzz is reduced. If you have more time though, deal with the entire drum for a long term fix. You can also address the tom that is in the range of the snare by retuning it. All lugs, quarter turn up or down until it's lessened. And lastly, adjust the tension on the snare wires themselves. All of this combined should help you minimize the buzz. Hope that helps!
Get electronic drums. Baring that do what Stephen said. I had a nasty ring on one of my snares, a Gretsch USA Custom from the 80s, and solved it by tightening the bottom snare head.
Buy Evans drum mute rings. They will make you snare “pop” without the ringing/rattling and will do the same for your toms. They are relatively cheap too!
Stephen, I have watched your sessions for a while now, and subscribed to your channel. Thanks for this - it's the kind of stuff that really matters to drummers who play live or for sessions, and often ignored.
I really like this drummer. Here's a new challenge: When can you build tension by NOT playing a fill? The best records have moments where there are no cymbals on one, and no fills leading to one. Not to say that the songs don't have any fills, but purposely using those moments with nothing to break clichés and leave room for the lyrics and other instruments to breathe.
Ugh... ok now I'm spamming but I'm just... ugh I really like the way he uses wrist technique to produce the tone he does on the kit. Accents and dynamics sit right where they need to be. The sound just resonates with me.
I just went on UA-cam to look up some random stuff, i subscribe to Drumeo, and this video popped up. I love it! The teacher's great, funny, knows what he's doing, everything's really useful and i enjoyed watching all of this. Some things you can't un-see... I find it's harder being a musician to un-hear things. So many songs that I don't like will flood my head for years... I mean YEARS. But it took way less time to forget the time I didn't knock on my parents bedroom door.
This lesson was a lot of fun! I really liked Stephen's teaching style. He made each fill concise and easy to understand. I also liked the way Stephen segued from one fill to next by starting with one concept and then building on it. Kudos and thanks for putting together this awesome lesson!!!

Stephen is such a good laugh and superb player. One of the greatest videos on drumeo . Really enjoyed it. Thanks for the knowledge you share Stephen and thanks Drumeo for the radical platform and work.
Stephen I watched your video on how to be a better church drummer when you gave 3 tips I play in a cowboy church in Texas it really inspires me and now I watch my fills and play a lot more for the song
Thanks you guys for this video and special thanks to Stephen. This is my second time watching this video and I plan on watching it at least two more times. Love all these fills they are so practical and extremely savy. Keep up the good work it has helped me get to the next level and it would not have happened without this video. Look forward to more of these Drumeo vids with The coolest drum doctor, "Stephen too cool for school Taylor!"
I told my teacher I have to get good enough to be a guest artist because now that I got my drum set up in its place in my living room, it is never going out. Guess I will have those crazy drum sets. Bettina
Incredibly useful and practical for anyone wishing to play professionally. Stephen is clearly an exceptional teacher and musician. Many thanks for the lesson, I really enjoyed it :)

Without doubt THE MOST useful video I have watched on drumming, and I've watched a few ;-) for a fledgling drummer. Recognisable fills explained perfectly and with good humour throughout. Thanks!

Great lesson. Know basic grooves, working on the fills, one or two at a time!! Thank you. Bettina, New Britain, CT.
Bettina Beauchemin you bet Bettina!
I told my teacher I have to get good enough to be a guest artist because now that I got my drum set up in its place in my living room, it is never going out. Guess I will have those crazy drum sets. Bettina

@@StephenTaylorDrums I am a guitarist/singer/songwriter and finally got a drum set. I've been watching you all over the internet and your mnemonic devices are really helping getting drum fills down. Thanks for taking the time to do your UA-cam videos! I know having a family can make a musicians life tough at times! :-)
Wow! That was a very musical solo. Quite a breath of fresh air.
Thanks George!
