    So quick video for you today(check out the lidia trailer too if ya didn't, posted during the night). Its not a lot of news, but its kinda important news if you have been following along with this whole crazy Street Fighter 6 thing. The infamous decision for only 1 major balance patch for the first year of SF6, that won't be going forward come Season 2/Year 2 of the game, simple as that. All in the vid so give a watch, link to the capcom tv segment in the video description if you wanna see it for yourself, and enjoy!

      (Don't have to answer btw, I am a guy who has yet to actually get into fighting games) Rooflemonger, does balance patches broaden the potential longevity of a fighting game? An argument I can make is that beloved fighting games such as Third strike and Dark stalkers have existed for a long time though still have a die hard audience regardless of the state of its characters (think Q, Victor). My point is they haven't been updated for a long time. Would having more consistent balance patches or bigger but further spaced out balance patches be the way ensure longevity of a game? Personally the fact they took a long time to make patches to the game can only be a good thing. Looking at KOF XV, big balance changes happened all the time. Though I don't know how it was for the people playing, I could only imagine for a semi-casual player base it can almost be 'hard' to adapt to. (Majin Obama: "war has changed" [you can no longer just pick the top tiers])

      @@adriakkoartisto5567 those games existed before patching was a thing. You just simply bought the new version of a game. The state of MvC2 balance would never be acceptable in todays landscape and the game would quickly die if it was left as it was.

      @rooflemonger so I have seen some reviews talking about the game circa 2000-2010 to now. All in all, you are right in your statement from what I could find. I guess balancing is very important and the more the better. Capcom making smaller but more consistent balance patches during upon the release of new dlc does seem like a good idea moving forward. Thank you for your time.

    I originally thought 1 patch a year was good because people get to learn about matchups and not have a random knowledge check, but with how big the patch is i now realize it's bad, especially for mid level players. All the combos you may have learned and practiced for up to a year have changed, or in some cases completely removed. High level players will be able to change easily, low level players generally won't know but the mid level it's tough having to relearn things

    • @ADreamingTraveler
      @ADreamingTraveler 4 місяці тому

      Just about everyones combo routes are still intact with the new balance patch. The only character that had a combo route or two altered was Deejay but they've done good making sure combo routes don't get altered. And they even added brand new routes for people to learn on top of that. That's how you do it imo

    • @BrotherCheng
      @BrotherCheng 2 місяці тому

      Wouldn't we have a bigger issue if we have more frequent patches though? That means we need to be constantly keeping up and catching up and re-learning our muscle memory. I don't think that's a good thing. Not everyone has time to grind over and over again in training mode just because combo routes have been invalidated. Just to answer the @ADreamingTraveler, you generally want to do the best combos for the situation and that means you need to learn the new combos to be competitive, not to mention sometimes old combo routes have massive scaling changes meaning their damage is now reduced, e.g. light confirms got a 20% scaling now in season 2, which means *everyone's* combo routes got significantly changed.

The problem is that many of these developers often drip feed us new characters so slowly when I think every two months is fair. We so often get sucked into buying season passes for the better price forgetting how long it actually takes to Benefit from it all if we re still playing by then. To your point about not enough patches messing up the meta, i must disagree. Within this first year the discussion of best in the game shifted many times. Juri, Deejay, Ken, JP, Luke, Blanka and Chun have all been tossed in that discussion throughout that year. I think the game was plenty healthy even without patches. Obviously some really made a strong case and needed work but to say that the lack of patches stalled the meta isnt accurate imo

    I dont feel too many patches will ruin the competitive scene. Just by looking at League of Legends (i dont play it but used to), there are frequent patches character buffs/nerfs/fixes, item buff/nerf/fixes and many other things in like a monthly basis. Competitive scene still strives.
    Same goes for Tekken 8, the game is just 5 months old and it had many patches since launch, yes most of them were bug fixes and behaviour changes but some characters got some buffs and nerfs nonetheless. The game is still a mess at the moment but the competitive scene is going very well imo.

    i wonder what would happen if capcom were constantly listening to the community bitching about everything and releasing patchs constantly to satisfy them… lets let them do their jobs! 😂
    let the meta reach full potential before releasing patches. look at what happened to t8 and mk1.

It's insane to me seeing Tekken 8 players say "well Jun just got nerfed after the game being out for 3 months so I'll just stop playing her until the next update in 2 months where we already know she's getting buffed." I'm not a fan of that system at all, especially when fighting games are all about learning and the information is subject to change every 6 weeks.

      Depends. At least with SF6 patch, it focuses on specific moves or aspects of the characters that doesn’t affect everything, but usually leads to a change in optimal combo or setup etc.
      Like you can pretty much play Ryu the same as pre patch besides some changes here and there. But at the same time, you won’t be utilising the buffs made to him, which means you lack in damage or something.
      You’ll usually figure out just by playing though what feels different

    I still believe in the 1 (major patch) per year. Patches shouldn’t be done just for ‘new content’ but actually done with purpose (and lots of testing).
    However, there’s the issue that if there’s a prominent issue with a character, you have to wait a year for it to be resolved.
    Yes, maybe a new tech or something will be created with them to makes it negligible, however, it’s quite risky when it comes to keeping players engaged.
    I think there should be minor patches (personally, only 1 or 2), but only to fix very very noticeable problems, and even then, they should be more of a band aid till the annual patch. It shouldn’t drastically change the character, but at the very least reduce the weakness of the character until the major patch comes.

    some people just keep pushing this fake idea that SF6 is gonna magically lose its playerbase if it doesn't start putting out patches faster or have characters release faster and all i gotta say is.

We already have Shin Akuma, so why stop there? They've done it in the past already, and I think that will make a lot of people happy and, on the competitive side, open up new strategies. League is very different from a fighting game, one small change to any moves frames/hitbox can break so many interactions with other characters, causing you to learn new combos or remove combos completely. There’s a reason why fighting games is niche, many people just don’t have the time to learn the game.
      As a causal 30 year old player with very limited time, I’ll drop the game if too many changes happen to frames and hitboxes. I wouldn’t mind damage nerfs since those don’t impact interactions.
      There’s nothing wrong with having 4 small patches and 1 big one. The only ones I’ve seen voiced a different opinion are UA-camrs for free content or bad players blaming their rank on lack of balancing.

      @martin99110 4 місяці тому

      @@pdragon619 I never said league is dying. You’re putting those words. League and fighting games are two different games. Balancing affects these games in totally different ways.
      In sf6 a change in frames will break many interactions. Cause characters to lose combos, What’s league balance? Damage nerf or cooldown nerf. This doesn’t cause you to have to learn to play Zed in a new playstayle. Zed is still zed at the end of the day even with a small damage or cooldown nerf. Meanwhile if Ryu gains more frames in his medium punch, that can break him into a trash character. It can cause him to lose combo routes. Things that people have practiced for hundreds of hours. In league those hundreds of hours you practiced don’t get tossed out the window because your ultimate does 50 less damage.
      I also stated pro players like doublelift have came out and said league patches and changes the game too much. This in no way equals game is dead.

The next major patch comes with the new character Zhuxin which is end of June. Mlbb does seasonal patch notes in the normal server. Imo, SF6 should have a patch every season, I think that would be just right. Not too long so people don't fall off and lose interest, and not too short. Every 4 months or so a patch comes in is nice. Smash bros did the same, a character comes in every 4 months then a patch note releases along with the smash character.
