Everybody knows Star Wars Masters of Teras Kasi needs a revival! But on the real it’s actually tragic most of these entries won’t be seen for a while now. DOA mostly bums me out tho, Hayabusa was my first main in any fighting game and my fav video game character of all time. Hopefully we’ll see him again soon
DoA was a game of firsts for me as well, it was the first fighting game I learned to consistently 1CC and the first one I did every combo trial for. I main Zack and Lisa.
Great video! This was a great collection of all dormant fighting game series that were once popular. I can't think of one missing. The most surprising ones to me were honestly the games that came out within the last decade that are considered dead. It feels weird to think of Soulcalibur or KI as dead titles, but yeah, it's been 6 to 10 years. Usually that's when we see new titles take over, or at least continuing DLC when looking at games like Skullgirls. Darkstalkers and MvC are games Capcom likes to dangle the carrot in front of us for making new titles, but I'll take the bait every time. Darkstalkers are not dead and MvC will return!
With the case of the Bloody Roar series, during the pandemic, there was actually a re-dub project for Bloody Roar 2 performed (with consent from Konami) by Casey Mongillo, Kira Buckland, and a few others voice actors.
That's one good thing about Konami getting into Pachinko I guess... They're more easy going about they're back catalogue outside of Castlevania and Metal Gear.
I'll echo the sentiment for Pocket Fighter being nice to see return. A very cute and fun game that can have a limited budget and so on, just so long as they show the care of the first and make it really enjoyable to play.
3:33 Wanna make a slight correction. Soulcalibur II is the best-selling entry in the franchise. The director stated in an interview for III's demo/beta/E3 build that II sold 4m copies. The Japanese Wikipedia page for II leads to the page that featured the E3 2005 interview that had Yotoriyama (longtime series director and producer) state this. This 4m sales figure was stated way before HD Online was made, so II's total sales numbers should be even higher. As for IV, we so far only know that 2.32m copies were sold for the game. It still makes it one of the best-selling games of the franchise, though, as I believe VI only sold 2m copies. This puts the games total sales ranking as follows: II > IV > VI > V > III > I > Edge > Legends As for whether the series is dead or not, I think it's just taking a break. Bamco's approval process for games is annoying, and Tekken only really got where it was due to Harada having to skirt the rules at times (based on his interview that he had that you mentioned in the video). It'll probably take a while though as Bamco takes forever to approve stuff (as their management sucks).
Timming is something essential for franchises. Akuma in TK7 was a genius move from Namco. Made people excited and kinda "forgive" SFXTK in a way. Not a fighting game, but one of my favorite franchises its a rythym game for PS1, Bust a Groove. Characters from it also look likes FG Characters. But it lost interest by people really fast, again timming. And now a day with soo many good and more famous rythym games, a comeback is almost impossible. Soo its really important to help those collection for old games. Helps to keep it the legacy avaiable, since those ips are closed to their past consoles. Great video btw! :)
Heres hoping that most of the fighting game series in this video manage to comeback at some point. I would personally love for Bloody Roar, DOA, Killer Instinct and the many Capcom/SNK fighting games to somehow comeback from the dead.
Darkstalkers is the biggest tragedy of them all... look at where Vampire Savior landed where it was easy to pick up and almost impossible to master, this perfect balance between traditional 2D fighters and Anime fighters that would appeal to just about anyone, amazing character designs that are some of the best in t he history of the genre, phenomenal sprite animations that are STILL some of the best and most creative examples to this day, a fun and easily understandable theme that makes it stand out and bypasses all cultural and language barriers.... you can't tell me a modern version of this wouldn't sell?! I want to scream every time I think about it. You re-release the same game over and over (ensuring everyone who knows about it has already bought it), while at the same time doing NOTHING to advertise it to people who aren't familiar with the series, and then use your poor decision making as justification on why it wouldn't work after you've done everything humanly possible to kill it. I mean, Christ, Nintendo is over here taking notes on how to kill a competitive scene and it's STILL going strong. I'm going to go cry now.
@@wolfman210 oh yeah, it jumped from Nintendo to Microsoft Now under Microsoft, they might as well make KI, Halo, Gears, and Battletoads in the same universe
Franchises I want to see return that you spoke about: 1. B L O O D Y R O A R 2. Power Stone (or at least make a capcom all stars game inspired by power stone) 3. Soul Calibur 4. Marvel baybee As for Red Earth, I'd make it part of the Darkstalkkers universe and have Tessa be a character if a new Darkstalkers were ever to be made. I don't want to see a new Dissidia but I would die for a 3v3 anime tag fighter with the Final Fantasy franchise.
In my opinion, DoA needs to embrace its silliness (yes, THAT silliness). I know it would probably cause issues for advertising and main stage tournaments, but come on... that series lived and died on sexy costumes and ridiculous physics, and DoA6 tried so hard to distance itself from that to make it more marketable. I don't understand why we can have MK on main stages with characters ripping out organs and goring everyone to death, but the minute R. Mika slaps her butt it becomes a problem. -_- I really think there's a space for DoA as a semi-lewd, but technically solid fighter, and these major sponsors have to grow up and let that be part of the community as well. Also, I'm sure there's talk at Arcsys to give Blazblue the GGST treatment. If I were to venture a guess, I'd say it's in some sort of pre-production right now, and they'll announce it in the next couple years.
Yeah, I personally thought DOA stood out with it's doll-like visuals. DOA 3 is why I asked for an Xbox for Christmas (that and Jet Set Radio Future enthralled me for years). DOA 5 and 6 felt....too real for me. I think BlazBlue could be Strive-ified, but it's *the* anime fighter to me. They proved they can still make insanely crisp sprites with the new characters in BBTAG so I hope they do it again.
DoA should simply combine the fighting game and the beach volleyball game. Add a few more activities, like bowling, dancing, tag team, three-way battle / dramatic battle, battle royale, etc. Focus the story less into bumbling schoolgirls kawaii adventure, but lean more seriously into the ninja lore, with a menacing world-ending villain arc. Make it a real high-stake story with over-the-top characters that just happened to dress sexily for no reason, instead of everyday story about cute ordinary girls that dress sexily also for no reason. The first is fan-service, the latter is just perverted. Two totally different things. Add silly gimmicks too choose, like low gravity, underwater stage, anything really. Just make it the most fun, dress-up dolls sport/action/fighting amusement park and laugh all the way to the bank with the cosmetics microtransactions.
@@davidsentanu7836 Thing is there already was huge parts of Ninja Lore with DoA the boss of the second game was a Tengu for pete's sake heck there's even another Tengu that's playable in later editions of 5 and 6. I agree. I feel like it needs a soft reboot. The old Dead or Alives like part 2 Hardcore and 3 to this day are still the best looking fighting games to me outside Virtua Fighter.
@@GodOfOrphans True. Ninjas are cool. They fight all the time. They flip out and kill people. DoA needs to lean more into the ninja lore to even differentiate it from Tekken. As can we see, the more Tekken focus on the devil gene lore the more popular it is. Fighting tournaments are too 90s. Most people don't care about martial arts anymore, but ninjas are still cool. More ninjas! Less schoolgirls!
I'm on the same boat, I wasn't thinking Capcom would remember stuff like Power Stone, Rival Schools & Star Gladiator but with Fighting Collection 2 coming out next year, there's hope to maybe give us a new Darkstalkers now that SF6 is a success especially since that team cares about fighting games & they can also be the ones to make that 3rd Rival Schools game which would be a bit bittersweet since Itsuno wouldn't be the one to make it but I do believe the SF6 team can be the ones to make a new Rival Schools since they were the same people that gave us Akira in SFV if I'm not mistaken
Yoshinori Ono cared about fighting games, was the guy basically responsible for SF's return as a Capcom flagship and a new Darkstalkers was his personal passion project alongside SF4 but Capcom didn't think the interest was there after the collection's failure. If he couldn't make it happen I don't think it ever will.

If Darkstalkers did return, I hope that they could find a way to integrate Red Earth/Warzard into the series. The characters just mesh well together and well could potentially get a game mode similar to Red Earth's gameplay. Though Darkstalkers along with Red Earth would probably have to be rebooted storywise for the two work.
One series many wish for a comeback is Injustice. Where IJ2's story left off there's quite a potential for Injustice 3. But with Netherrealm busy with Mortal Kombat it might take a while if there will be any news regarding next Injustice game.

One series you haven't commented on was Eternal Champions: Sega USA's Genesis and Sega CD fighter that was killed by Sega Japan. Another casualty of the Sega Civil War
Why do people want a Darkstalkers game that looks like SF6? One of the main appeals of Darkstalkers is its 2D animation that pays homage to old American cartoons and you can't get that with the hyper-realistic RE Engine... besides, didn't people complaining about "realistic" Morrigan in MVCI? Although I guess MVCI did at least keep her looking sexy as opposed to what I imagine is gonna happen to her if Capcom makes a new game with her given their recent cases of censorship.
I'm a big Soul Calibur fan, and I've been playing them since I was a young kid. It's so sad to see my favorite fighting game series drop into obscurity.
They just announced an Eternal Champions movie, and I seriously feel that franchise is the most underrated fighting game series of all time. The story and the characters are so creative.
Killer Instinct makes me the saddest that it may be a dead franchise. My wife and I would play KI 2 at our local barcade. The cabinet is so loud and obnoxious with its music that it would just draw you in to check it out-a lot of fond memories playing it. KI’s mechanics were always innovative, I wonder what they could do with modern day fighting game sensibilities. Also, great job on the Triple KO podcast!
Bloody roar was so cool. It was like the closest thing to a DBZ game where you can go super Saiyan. Fighting games where you can change forms, and be knocked out of those forms to a less powerful state..... They need to make a comeback
Blazblue Central Fiction, the final main Blazblue title cause a lot of controversy because it didn't get an english dub, didn't have playable unlimited characters & didn't even get an "Extend" version like Continuum Shift & Chronophantasma did.
I would agree that DOA is pretty much dead if it weren't for the fact that the company is more focused on turning the girls into and to quote my friend here " Virtual girls that people spend vast amounts of money on for costumes" then making a DOA7. I mean really 5 had that much money for DLC costumes and then 6 made it even worse with even more scummy decisions on top of them focusing more on extreme beach volleyball 3 where they had a whole bunch of new female characters that I'm pretty sure everyone forgot about and even more dirty costumes. Now I honestly think that all the girls do from the series is just go on that island and just chill for the next several years because they're not getting any work and Kasumi is currently being a gravuare model lol. But man it does always suck when there's a fighting game franchise that you want to see come back only for certain things to come by and say nope that's not going to happen.
I guess I'm the only crazy person that wants a reboot of battle arena toshinden. I believe with the day and age now it could work, a polished low budget game would be great and I'd happily buy it to play. I just watched the movie tie in to the game yesterday and thought this game needs to come back. I miss playing it.
PlayStation AllStars just wasn't an interesting game. It could be fun, but it was kind of messy and lacked a clear identity. Other platform fighters like Rivals of Aether and Brawlhalla did a better job replicating the fast combat of Smash Bros while adding their own unique and interesting elements.
My biggest surprise in this vid was the toshinden game on the wii! I had no idea that existed. Definitely plan to give it a try now. You always have interesting vid topics.
For me, Soul Calibur hasn't really wowed since the third outing. That game had *MUCH* replay value for the solo player. I loved the second and third Battle Arena Toshinden and Bloody Roar games. Oh, and Power Stone 2 was my jam 👍🏿
What about Pokken Tournament? From what I've heard, that game seemed successful, and the fgc seemed to like it well enough. I think that warrants it a sequel.
This video is good at explaining what happened to each series. I didn't know that the create lead left in the case of Soul Calibur and Blazblue. As for the Capcom games, I will say they should do the Capcom All Stars idea another shot. A 2v2 or 3v3 fighter with all IPs. We got CFE which everyone hate, but I see it as a guilty pleasure on what could have been. As for DOA, that part hurt me. I personally have all 6 games. Yes, all 6. Plus Dimensions on my 3DS. Still annoyed that Koei fumble the bag with 6 and focused too much on reselling and costume season passes. 😢 I want another DOA game personally.
You know, with the recent explosion of popularity Kengan Ashura and Baki had in the last years, it wouldn't surprise me if SNK goes out of their way after Fatal Fury and just makes a sequel/remake of Buriki One. That game was so underrated it's almost insulting 🤣 just imagine what they could do today with a game like that
DOA needs a revival. DOAX1 was also supremely fun. The AI was fun to play against and the visual novel style relationship system kept things fun for me. I was a teen when I played it too, so of course I liked the bikini girls (big shock). However, when my biggest draws to DOA are Brad Wong, Kimono Kokoro, and Christie just being a badass, my priorities are much more in the martial arts. The RPS of the hold system also felt unique and paid to train. One of my biggest early wins was countering Hayabusa’s headbutt in a lobby of people who lost to the player using him. Got my own micro-crowd shout of daigo-like proportions.
I feel like Fighting Vipers should be integrated into the Virtua Fighter reboot. It's a perfect time to just do a "Final Fight & Street Fighter" maneuver.
Darkstalkers needs to happen. The potential for a horror themed fighter is waiting to be tapped once more. Also, I know Toshinden will never happen. But if that ever came back. They need to completely rework it rather than copy the original clunky game. Because the characters, art, and music is there. It just needs great gameplay to match.
Particularly, the 3D fighter talk spoke to me a lot as I've primarily played Soul Calibur for a looooooooooong while. I wish it had more love within Bamco (the pandemic cancelling its world tour and a host of other plans hurt that game a lot, I feel. But not enough to make it look like it didn't sell). That also said, the start of the video reminded me of being on the receiving end of "yo why you still playing dead games tho" only for the guy talking like that also witness his favorite fighter lose support too.
The Soul still burns, baby. I didn't spend hours mastering being able to throw out Summon Suffering whenever I want, and learning how to PORC for NOTHING! 😆 We need Bloody Roar back _so_ bad. There'd be a huge audience for it. Someone get Eighting on the horn!

@@NeoZiggy92 as I said players' nationality may vary per game.
so true hahahah we just love our fighting games
I agree that Terry and Mai in SF6 might be a sign we're getting MVC instead of CVS. If a new MVC did really well it would obviously make them more inclined to make a new CVS.
Of all the companies that could have bought Hudson's IPs (including Bloody Roar), it's a damn shame that f*ckin' Konami was the one that got them.
Fighters Destiny on N64 was highly overlooked back in the day. Truly a Unique Gem
You're joking, but an actually good Star Wars fighting game would be a cool idea.
Darkstalkers are not dead and MvC will return!
the fact Itagaki and Harada were homies and went to the same school is so awesome and makes me happy af.
Ah, so that explains everything now. They went to the same wear-sunglasses-at-all-times school!
With the case of the Bloody Roar series, during the pandemic, there was actually a re-dub project for Bloody Roar 2 performed (with consent from Konami) by Casey Mongillo, Kira Buckland, and a few others voice actors.
I remember that! Did that ever release?
@baberuthless Yes.
That's one good thing about Konami getting into Pachinko I guess...
They're more easy going about they're back catalogue outside of Castlevania and Metal Gear.
Yea I got the rom recently and its great work. If thats not fan dedication then I dont know what is.
This puts the games total sales ranking as follows:
II > IV > VI > V > III > I > Edge > Legends
As for whether the series is dead or not, I think it's just taking a break.
As soon as the CvS music started, i was looking for the hidden Kaiser beer ad, its at 0:16
I need a drink to make this less painful.
Killer Instinct:
A game that should *NEVER* be overshadowed
It's hard to believe it was a Nintendo flagship in the 90s on the SNES and N64.
@@wolfman210 oh yeah, it jumped from Nintendo to Microsoft
Now under Microsoft, they might as well make KI, Halo, Gears, and Battletoads in the same universe
@@AlexIn_ThaCosmos89 Yeah when Smash hit Nintendo forgot all about KI.
MS tried to make it Xbox's Street Fighter but alas.
@@wolfman210 more like a mix of a fast-paced Street Fighter and Smash Bros, because of the inclusion of other characters owned by Microsoft
Soul Calibur may seriously been wounded, but the SOUL STILL BURNS!
Thank God for emulation and what not, I love revisiting old fighting games
Franchises I want to see return that you spoke about:
1. B L O O D Y R O A R
2. Power Stone (or at least make a capcom all stars game inspired by power stone)
3. Soul Calibur
4. Marvel baybee
As for Red Earth, I'd make it part of the Darkstalkkers universe and have Tessa be a character if a new Darkstalkers were ever to be made. I don't want to see a new Dissidia but I would die for a 3v3 anime tag fighter with the Final Fantasy franchise.
My heart when Dark Stalkers and SC come back
The irony: Dead or Alive felt so alive back in the days but mow its completely dead. Dead or Alive went from alive to dead
Tell me about it
In my opinion, DoA needs to embrace its silliness (yes, THAT silliness).
Even with the more sci-fi stuff with Alpha the ninja lore never went away and still played a significant role in the story.
@@wolfman210 Idk this collection with a majority of it being old IPs that Capcom themselves said they wanted to bring back gives me some hope things will change even if I might be hopelessly naive & have a lot of wishful thinking
@@videogamerzero1schannel As a fan of both DS and SC I'd love to have my pessimism proven wrong but I think the Industry has been "Hollywooded" too much for less mainstream genres like fighters to have a chance in the eyes of the giants like Bamco and Capcom if they aren't proven pop culture icons like Street Fighter, Tekken, Nintendo and Mortal Kombat.
Why put money into DarkStalkers or Soul Calibur when a new Resident Evil or Dragon Ball game would make more money?
@@wolfman210 Perhaps you're right but I believe things might be different this time with Capcom even if I might be naive into believing things can change now
I'm surprised Skull Girls wasn’t mentioned. Never played it, but I did notice the buzz they were creating. Power Stone could do well but I do miss School Rivals!!
Skullgirls is still getting support
Capcom vs SNK 3 is the ultimate dream crossover Capcom & SNK fans, including myself have been longing for years
If Darkstalkers did return, I hope that they could find a way to integrate Red Earth/Warzard into the series. The characters just mesh well together and well could potentially get a game mode similar to Red Earth's gameplay. Though Darkstalkers along with Red Earth would probably have to be rebooted storywise for the two work.
Seeing SC in the thumbnail hurts, not gonna lie. Crazy there's been ONE game in 12 years. :/
One series many wish for a comeback is Injustice. Where IJ2's story left off there's quite a potential for Injustice 3. But with Netherrealm busy with Mortal Kombat it might take a while if there will be any news regarding next Injustice game.
I love Battle Arena Toshinden 3, it's the king and best game of the franchise 🔥
Toshinden 3 have a charm that no other fighting game has for me, it's a unique one 🔥😎
I wish toshinden would come back. It could be such a charming and simple game. I would love it.
These fighting games make me so sad! 😭
Baaaaaaaaberuthless ❤🎉 back at it again. So tired of hearing DEAD GAME as well. Let me watch before i lose it 😂
I'm a big Soul Calibur fan, and I've been playing them since I was a young kid. It's so sad to see my favorite fighting game series drop into obscurity.
Im just amazed someone remembered Battle Arena Toshinden.
DAMN YOU KONAMI!
They just announced an Eternal Champions movie, and I seriously feel that franchise is the most underrated fighting game series of all time. The story and the characters are so creative.
I would love to see the soul cailber series come back i still love using its character creator
Don't care Power Instinct lives forever in my heart 😅😅
The team was scrapped and the main man jumped ship to Tekken.
The writing’s on the wall at this point.
Fighting games were doomed the day Playstation AllStars Battle Royal failed… :(
We’re just now realizing our folly…
🤣
PlayStation AllStars just wasn't an interesting game. It could be fun, but it was kind of messy and lacked a clear identity. Other platform fighters like Rivals of Aether and Brawlhalla did a better job replicating the fast combat of Smash Bros while adding their own unique and interesting elements.
@@coolbrotherf127
I got’chu, I was joking.
I love Rivals and can’t wait for Fraymakers.
(Tbh I like Rivals more than Smash…)
My biggest surprise in this vid was the toshinden game on the wii! I had no idea that existed. Definitely plan to give it a try now. You always have interesting vid topics.
Virtua fighter soul calibur and darkstalkers is especially sad
...no Eternal Champions?
For me, Soul Calibur hasn't really wowed since the third outing. That game had *MUCH* replay value for the solo player. I loved the second and third Battle Arena Toshinden and Bloody Roar games. Oh, and Power Stone 2 was my jam 👍🏿
Soul Caliber was seriously wounded, but the soul still burns!
You’ve been killing it with these video topics! Take my sub!
This one is gonna hurt my heart, I just know it.
Sorry 😅
this video was amazing, i'm glad i found this through my recommendation
Ey another excellent video! With all these collections coming up I have hope for some of these series coming back ❤
*first game* "Battle Arena Toshinden" So we going oldschoooool, ain't we?
Man, you bringing back ps1 memories when that system first launched for me..
We've got an Art of Fighting 4 annonced
What about Pokken Tournament? From what I've heard, that game seemed successful, and the fgc seemed to like it well enough. I think that warrants it a sequel.
I think it does too! But it’s not really a series just one game so I didn’t talk about it here
This video is good at explaining what happened to each series.
I would love to see DOA come back
I just start watching bur pleaseee dont tell me that soul calibur is dead!!! legend never dies! lets keep the dream living!
You know, with the recent explosion of popularity Kengan Ashura and Baki had in the last years, it wouldn't surprise me if SNK goes out of their way after Fatal Fury and just makes a sequel/remake of Buriki One. That game was so underrated it's almost insulting 🤣 just imagine what they could do today with a game like that
9:45 i mean I guess, but since we got tons of Street Fighter-styled games, there's a small chance that the series will come back
My Soul still burns for the tales of Souls and Sword…Eternally Retold.
I love soul caliber. I would buy Soul Caliber 7 and would hope their guest characters would be master shredder and splinter from TMNT
Capcom: Make a new Super Puzzle Fighter you cowards! (Not a fighting game, I know, but that game is just so addictive)
OOOooo I neeeed new Battle Arena Doshilden game!
I feel like Fighting Vipers should be integrated into the Virtua Fighter reboot. It's a perfect time to just do a "Final Fight & Street Fighter" maneuver.
Not a bad idea!
They should just make Fighters Megamix 2. It's not the first time those franchises have crossed over.
Virtua Fighter + Fighting Vipers + Streets of Rage + Yakuza = VF 6. Make it happen, Sega!
Meh they very different vibes that don't mesh well unlike street fighter and final fight
@chidaluokoro9104 As much as this clashes, I feel like Virtua Fighter lacks some sort of identity to call its own.
The old Capcom vs games veing re released is a privilege.
Darkstalkers needs to happen. The potential for a horror themed fighter is waiting to be tapped once more.
Also, I know Toshinden will never happen. But if that ever came back. They need to completely rework it rather than copy the original clunky game. Because the characters, art, and music is there. It just needs great gameplay to match.
i just want tournament fighters 2 only then i can have peace
On of my all time favorite fighters was Last Bronx on Sega Saturn (and arcade)
The X-Men fighting game so fun af
I would sincerely love a return of Soulcalibur. It's always a shame when beloved game series'ses die; not even just fighting game ones.
You are wise to realize VF's return in the vid because VF has never been more alive!!!!!!!!! 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Agreed! VF’s return is just an open secret at this point. It’s time for the OG 3D fighter to shine again
Why didn't you cover Eternal Champions in the Sega segment of this video? There seems to be an anti-West bias in the fighting game press.
