i was shocked to wathch a video where he said he didnt care much for elvis. he said elvis kept calling him to talk and on 15th time or so then he decided to go. I guess he always took elvis as competition . He said so. if elvis and cliff richard werent no. 1's on the charts he would be the king of rock and roll...! to me he is up there with the greats , no doubt.
With all due respect, i don't think that is correct. Jerry when a young man was in Bible College and was asked to leave or just left after he was reprimanded for Jazzing up an old Gospel song a little bit. He and Jimmy for at least a time went to church together if I remember correctly.

Anybody ever heard of Wayne Joiner? I saw him about 20 years ago. He tore this song up so bad if he had not been singing, nobody would have known what he was playing.
There are several recordings of this song by several singers. There are 2 which I personally consider worthy of my listening time, and they are The Killer and Patsy. All others pale in comparison, although The Statler Brothers are a good 3rd behind those 2....just my personal opinion.
