These actually aren't bad questions. 1. Android and iPhone can both track you, you don't need to have your gps on. 2. Employees CAN manually edit search results. Google admits to doing this. 3. Advertising to children is a concern
@@ZacharyBittner These questions are good curiosities, but definitely bad questions to the CEO. The phone question is irrelevant unless they are talking about Google's phones itself (Google Pixel) but it seems like they were generalizing all smartphones. And Mr. Pichai still gave a correct response because it's a kind of general knowledge. The phones themselves have the ability to have location services shared with programs; however, those programs need to be approved by the user of the phone before actually allowing that application to send this location data to that specific application's data hub. Don't believe it? Try making a quick phone app location services and testing this on one of your phones. Super easy and simple test; it will ASK you if you allow this program location services. Deny that request and see what happens to your app data (it won't work). Are there ways around this? Sure, but its ultimately up to the user to decide whether or not they trust that specific app and want to continue using it. Also, GPS chips don't send data, it receives it from the satellites (think of it as a giant public map) Employees can manually edit search ALGORITHMS. These congressmen are making it sound like there are tens of thousands of Google employees sorting through 5.6 billion searches daily. In fact, this is heavily automated using many layers of algorithmic programming so that the program can edit search results 24/7 without complaints or payment. Lastly, advertising to children through phones is just as open as advertising on billboards/fliers/TV commercials. This has more to do with whatever app the child was using and less to do with Google. When was the last time you saw a picture ad when searching on Google? So basically, in every sense except their curiosities, these congressmen were very unprepared for this meeting and these were bad questions.

The explanations and justifications can come afterwards, but the answer to that one question can be either a yes or a no, but both are simple one word answer that the Google CEO was obviously trying hard to avoid from answering.
Honestly Lofgren was the only who logically responded to the CEO's explanation, she actually attempted to understand and confirm what he was saying.

i was dying while reading this
The worst part is that Google really is doing a bunch of messed up stuff and they're never going to get got for it as long as the people in charge of asking the questions are asking questions like these.
Ugh why even bother. These old men dont know anything involving technology. Plus they way they talk to him, they're so arrogant and rude.
Dunning Kruger effect in action, less educated individual think they know it all and hence should not study anymore.
Scary part is that they're responsible for making tech policies also.
@Todor Samardzhiev lol you wish, google has power over congress, not the other way around
Cant believe theyre trying to outsmart the Ceo of Google himself.
*They cant even accept a fact*

Congressman: Can you manipulate search results

Looks like old grandpa is ignorant about gps and navigation
The Poe senator has the worst kind of impatience.
Ignorant and lacking the ability to hear out what Pichai was trying to elaborate.
It takes an extremely patient human to deal with that type of attitude.
99dynasty that senator guy was also insanely dumb
It's honestly close to satire at this point. He answered the question by saying No, unless you opt in, in which case it's Yes.
Check out Limmy's sketch on a yes or no question to a politician, it's so relevant to that guy it's crazy.
@@99dynasty It could honestly be a political strategy, trying to make the Google guy seem stupid by talking over him
"Does Google track my movements"?
That sir is how Google maps work
Congress: ITS A YES OR NO QUESTION!
Ceo: (explains with rationality and critical thinking while being mature)
Congress: (interrupts ceo) I HAVE TO DISAGREE
This feels like an episode from the Onion.
And it wouldn't even be one of the least strange ones
Sam wish it was
It really does
People always say that, but those same people would watch a video like this from the Onion and swear that it felt so real, so make up your mind!
CEO: no employee can change search results
Boomer: I'm gonna have to disagree
Amelia Dainz “it’s impossible for an employee to change the search results” “I disagree”
I doubt its impossible though
@@joeyrousselle6086 It is. It's all totally automated and traceable, there's no point at which a human could intervene.
Lol what was even the point of asking the poor guy if you were just going to disagree anyway. It's not like what he said was a matter of opinion to begin with
Though the administrator can
This old man isn’t letting the CEO complete his sentence that’s just bad manner. And they’re the Congress.
Welcome to politics! it’s a circus in America
Sadly that will be his victory for the day. People like this aren't in these roles to do work a job they love, they're merely sat there because of all the opportunities they get to stroke their fragile boomer egos.
Well..
Where he comes from..
...It's to be tolerated dutifully.
Also, GPS chips don't send data, it receives it from the satellites (think of it as a giant public map)
Employees can manually edit search ALGORITHMS.
