- Recently rediscovered! In 2007 I did a stint at WYPL as a Producer/ Director, and had the opportunity and privilege to record the following segment. Legendary disk jockey, George Klein chatting with Elvis' side man Scotty Moore. I believe the majority of the footage has never been seen. They talk about his legendary Gibson ES-295 and old stories and memories of Elvis and their friends back in the early days of rock ‘n’ roll. This is the full one hour and 34 minute conversation they had for the historical archives of Memphis music history. Here is George Klein chats with Scotty more in 2007.

I'm in shock hearing the sad news about Scotty Moore and George kline who have passed away i met Scotty Moore at an elvis week festival in Norfolk England in 1990 and it was a pleasure and an honour to have met Scotty Moore
To be the legend that he is and to be that humble shows that he is also a man of great character. There would not have been an Elvis if not for Scotty Moore.
Not quite,but he is a lovely man who was very important to Elvis,wish Elvis used him more later on....

I agree w/you Ray .. I wasn’t going say anything, .. but each time in the interview when George Klein referred to Elvis’ smash hit ‘That’s alright Mama’ .. as being entitled, ‘THATS ALRIGHT LITTLE MAMA’, .. I cringed in disbelief as to why George Klein didn’t say the correct title of the song.
Perhaps the average person overlooked it; .. but being an entertainer myself I’ll never understand still how George got it wrong.
I’ll never understand it because George and Elvis were good friends. In fact, when Elvis was inducted into the ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the mid 80s, it was George Klein that was asked by the Presley family to accept the award and make the acceptance speech on behalf of the Presley family.
I know he is driving me nuts , too !! I wish that he would stop calling the song by the wrong name when he should know better !! And Moore never corrected him !! I don't know why Klein kept saying " That's Alright LITTLE Mama" when the name is "THAT'S ALRIGHT MAMA"
I agree, but Elvis himself referred to it as That's Allright Little Mama on the 68 TV Special.
@@Maryloo10000 yes , Elvis did call it "THAT 'S ALRIGHT, LITTLE MAMA" , and i was perplexed as to why he did that because i don't think that the song has the word LITTLE in it.

I've always loved scotty Moore. He speaks well. Educated. Calm. Not arrogant for a rock n roller. For example jerry lee lewis, is always a southern country arrogant. Like chuck berry he was so talented well spoken. Great lyricist/ song writer! Thank you scotty! Thank you chuck! And jerry, you've never been rock n roll in my back. Just a drunk country boy! Great country singer, but never rock n roll.

Little mama is a weird thing to say… especially for a local DJ. They do the same thing for Del Shannon’s Runaway, they call it Little Runaway, or “My Little Runaway.” It’s just Runaway.

Rockabilly was coined in rhe song Rock Billy Boogie by Johnny Burnette & His Rock 'n' Roll Trio
Rocky and Billy are the sons of the Burnette brothers. Billy is Dorsey's son and Rocky is Johnny's.
Rocky had a hit in the summer of 1980 with 'Tired of Toein' the Line' and Billy is best known for joining Fleetwood Mac in the late 1980s.
The song that their fathers did was called 'Rock Billy Boogie' sometimes known as 'Rockabilly or RockaBilly Boogie' and that's the name that stuck especially to the sound that came out of Memphis in the mid 1950s.
This is painful... Scotty should have told GK, "Just so ya know, most of my answers will be longer than half a sentence"

Ernest Tubb had his name on his guitar neck years before Elvis did.
Even though i believe Scotty was a genius, and it was his arrangements with his guitar rifts, that gave Elvis his fame, it is very obvious, with the rhythm, and beat, and guitar work, that Bill Haley is the father of Rock N Roll, from 1951, and it was Rock a Round the Clock, that started the Rock N Roll Craze .
I was gonna post the same thing Karl, and all due respect for Scotty, he has no idea how much I listened to his guitar playing on Sun Records, but, Bill Haley was before them.
Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and in my opinion, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and many others had a hand in forming the foundations of Rock 'n' Roll.

Saw a YT video where Elvis said somebody's foot went thru his guitar during a bar fight. Dont know which one he was talking about.

Parker screwed Elvis out of great hit songs that went to other people, because he wanted them to sign over half the credits and royalties! Parker's wanting total control over Elvis hurt Elvis career alot! Elvis could've been at the top of the charts during his movie career. He also took advantage of Elvis needing money because of Pricilla demands in the divorce. He talked Elvis into selling his catalog of music. for 5 million! Elvis didn't get but a little over 1 million out of that deal. If that catalog hadn't been sold Elvis could've made millions in royalties and not had to tour so much! RCA is taking in the royalties to this day! Elvis is still winning gold and platinum records foty give years after his death!
Yes, Parker should have let Elvis alone to pick songs but Parker was all about the money. He wanted the publishing rights where Elvis miss out on great songs and could have had so many more number 1 hits.
Poor Elvis, but really, he didn’t want to get involved with Parker’s business. He let Parker do everything. He just never seemed to be confident to stand up to him.

I love everything Elvis but I kinda think he was too big a star as himself for audiences to take to him as a serious dramatic actor, Colonel probably had a point when it came to the direction of Elvis' Movies, It all worked out as far as history goes there is only 1 rock n roll star with the biggest movie out in 2022, it's not Bieber or Harry Styles, It's Elvis.

Watch the band The Doobie brothers they have 2 drummers in my mind were the best 2 to play at one time I'm/ was a drummer and to me they were nothing short of awesome.

The thing that disappoints me is how people that knew king ELVIS changed their story about Elvis every time Their asked!. it's like they wanted to tell you what you wanted to hear truth or not!

The song was called "Thats All Right Mama" not little mama...and the guitar that started Rock and Roll was played by guitarist Danny Cedrone with Bill Haley and the Comets on the record "Rock The Joint" from 1951 and then on "Crazy Man Crazy" in 1953 and then "Rock Around the Clock" recorded in 1954. George Klein needs to go back and do his homework on Rock and Roll history...
Did Scotty know Buddy Holly? 31:26 I can't believe a guy hit his guitar with an egg and hasn't sold his story or ever been interviewed since.
I say yes because of one of if not the first video of Elvis was back stage with Buddy Holly and Johnny Cash.
I'm certain Scotty met Buddy, for the fact, Buddy's first bass player was my neighbor, he sadly passed 3 months ago, and I played guitar with him a lot, and in his stories and there is a picture floating around with Elvis, Buddy, Larry Welborn (Buddy's bass player), Bob Montgomery (Buddy, Bob & Larry)...this was 1954...maybe 53' possibly. So, from what Larry told me, they all met Elvis and the band, and also, Larry played a couple of sets with Elvis on stage in Texas, and Scotty was on guitar as well, and Buddy was there.
Too much running into each other to not to have at least met.
This is great Rock and Roll history! I just don’t care for the interviewer, he should ask questions, and not force answers, or imply things , because I think he was missing some tidbits 🤷
You do know that the interviewer is George Klein; one of Elvis' greatest friends who went to high school with him? He was huge radio and television star in Memphis.

I met GK 5 times in Memphis, he's is a great man,and he was true to Elvis then and now,RIP to all the Memphis boys 🙏

Scotty NEVER claimed to have invented Rock 'n' Roll(and neither did Elvis). George Klein keeps saying it for him, but Scotty himself would never say that.
I thought its alright mama was a cover . They didn't invent it .as far as I know
They say that Arthur Crudup did it inthe interview. But he did not play the riffs that Scotty played.
Elvis- only Gibson Guitars and only Pepsi! No coke!

Elvis also played Fender guitars including his favorite bass.
@@detroitfunk313 He also VERY famously played Martin guitars, first a Martin D18 from mid 1954 to July, 1955, and then the famous D28 with the tooled leather covering from July, 1955 to November or so of 1956.
it's sad that Elvis no longer spoke to Scotty , Bill AND D.J. after the '68 comeback special . he moved on to bigger productions , jumpsuits and vegas .

actually, in 1969 as Scotty writes in his autobiography "That's Alright, Elvis," EP called Scotty, and DJ, and the Jordanaires and asked them to do his Vegas shows coming up in summer 1969....they all said "No thanks" !!..... because they did not want to go back on the road...they were all doing well in Nashville...EP told Scotty "What am i going to do without all of you? I have never performed without you!" Scotty said "You remember Rick Nelson's guitarist James Burton? I'll give him a call and ask him to put together a band for you."...Scotty did, and James Burton and the band he "put together" backed up EP for the next 8 tears, thanks to Scotty Moore. EP was very grateful....Scotty avoided EP's recording sessions after that, because he didn't want to intrude upon James Burton's band.

good interview. important point is Elvis had a above average menory at least for music. that impressed Scotty. Elvis knew what he was foing at least somewhat right from the start. Elvis first songs were sung the same way by Elvis as he just repeated what worked. important. I don't agree Scotty or Bill mattered to the accomplishment of elvis. They were irrelevant. I don't agree Tock has anything to do with Gispel, RN, or country. rock is just acceleration sounds mimicing human acceleration sounds that come from excitment.

My God, Klein is embarrassing. He did spend a lot of time around Elvis, but displays a terrible lack of knowledge about Elvis and music in general throughout this 90 minutes......above and beyond his hopeless interview technique and reliance on his "notes". Appalling, but nonetheless valuable as a historical document. I have to think Scotty wished he could have been anywhere else even as it was underway. Gentleman that he was, Scotty concealed all of that and I'd imagine Klein is too dense to realize how laughable he is.
There is so much detail with Elvis and those early years, GK would have had to have notes to stay on track with the interview.

That's George all the time, he has or had shares in Elvis presley enterprises, so whenever someone bought a ticket to graceland or a cup T-shirt from the Elvis complex he gets a cut.
So with such a vested interest he can hardly give an unbiased opinion and is there to talk Elvis and sell Elvis, Scotty is is basically a pawn for George to sell tickets to graceland
I think Scotty Moore was a genius, and the reason, Elvis made it, big , but come on, Bill Haley had everyone rockin, from 1951 so that was the beginning of Rock N Roll , the beat, rhythm, and guitar rifts , why wasn't that brought up, with Scotty Moore ?????? .
more accurately, Scotty and EP invented rockabilly...and then they invented Hard Rock with stuff like Jailhouse Rock and Hound Dog and Hard Headed Woman and One Night
