I was a Friend of Scott Moore for 30 plus years. My sister was his business mgr. at his recording studio in Nashville, that I purchased later. I sat with him @ his home for half days while my niece went shopping for food, two different weeks just before he passed, & He signed his book for me (Mystery Train ) . She was his caretaker for his last 2 years after my sister passed. Scott was the kindest most unassuming man & was a great friend for 30 & more years. Every one would be lucky to have ONE Friend like him I served at his service & final resting place at his family plot in Humboldt Tenn. No one could have a better friend than MR. SCOTT MOORE RIP OLE BUDDY!!

What a classy guy Scotty Moore was. I think he was the only manager Elvis ever had who really had his back. He obviously had too much class to tell everyone what he really thought about Colonel Parker - because I'm sure his opinion of him wasn't a good one. RIP Scotty, you're one hell of a guy.

I love how it was his relationships and diligence and patience that eventually led to financial success. The love for music was just inborn. Scotty was a gift to humanity, just like Elvis.
It's amazing how all the stars aligned to bring Elvis, Scotty, Bill, and Sam Phillips together that night. Had it not been for the secretary constantly bringing up Elvis to Sam, the name Elvis, may have never been known. She was the one who recognized something in Elvis. There are thousands of people in this world who have that special something, that talent, that will never be known simply because the stars never aligned for them. I knew of a singer who sounded like a combination of Perry Como, and Sinatra, but with the power of Tony Bennett, that would turn every head in the bar with amazement, when he sat in with the band and sang a few songs even better than the original artists. He spent his life working as a contractor.

Each riff Scotty Moore played on an Elvis recording was unique for that song and it seemed that the riff so perfectly matched the tune that no other riff seemed to belong. Moore expanded on this in this interview when he said that he didn't want his riff to be a reprise of the song's melody, but rather a unique contribution to the song. And each riff was exactly that.
Jimmy Page said when everyone else wanted to be the next Elvis he wanted to be like Scottie Moore. I think that says everything you need to know about Scottie. Rest In Peace to one of the greatest in the music industry.

Yes you are right Mr. Moore helped Elvis from the very start. Mr. More was reminding Sam Phillips more than once to call in Elvis to see what they can do together in the studio. Mr More used his wife's car to take three of them to do the initial tours to play gigs and start earing an income from their music. The last conversation between Mr More and Elvis was after the 68 Special when Elvis told him about the European Tour that he wanted to do which never did came about. This is telling me that the last time Elvis had personal contact with Mr. More was in 1968. From then on to Elvis's death he did not had any contact with Mr. More. This is what i am just understanding with this interview with Mr. More. I am a very huge fan of Elvis but, this is terrible. Elvis had completely forgotten a very important person who had help him when he had nothing.

I love the part of the story where Scotty says “We sold maybe a dozen records” when talking about his band The Starlight Wranglers. I’ve heard him make the same statement in two other interviews. A class act. I love watching old films of him on stage with Elvis. He always had a happy but sort of shocked look on his face. He once stated how overwhelming it was the first time that they played a 50,000 audience.
Watching and listening to Scotty Moore during this interview, it is very obvious that he was an intuitive musician. He played what he felt was appropriate for the song he was playing. Scotty's Guitar solo on "Good Rockin' Tonight" is my all-time favourite!
Scotty and Bill ( and DJ Fontana later) were just as talented in their own fields as Elvis was in his. It was a dream come true to see AND hear Scotty play those 50's and 60's Elvis classics live in Dublin a few years before he died.

Elvis did not throw Scotty under the bus. He had a manager that made all the decisions. Things always happened for a reason. Elvis talent was singing. Scotty talent was playing guitar. It was a team effort. One person can't be credited. Each individual were talented. But just like in AFL, there is always that star in the team that stands out. In this case it was Elvis. Scotty was a talented man that all the quitarists looked up to him. Just like Queen. Who was the showman? Freddy but his quitarist was awesome too. Don't say without Scotty Moore be no Elvis. Embrace the music and the talents and don't say without somebody there would be nobody. Elvis respected all these people. Elvis gone but people making money writing books and interviews with relation to him or association with him, it sheer mention of his name! Respect for all these legends.☮️

Spent nearly a year in Millington, Tn with USN in training command; never visited Graceland, never went to hear music on Beale St., I was sick of Elvis this and Elvis that from my dad and his parents, got just plain sick of hearing 'bout Elvis. Amazingly, after I left and went to San Diego and did a couple of deployments (WestPacs) I realized the significance of Elvis as well as all the music that came out of Memphis, north Mississippi,that whole area. The country blues, R&B, "Rockabilly", just tons of great music recorded at Sun studios. When Queen did "Crazy little thing called love", Dire Straits did "Calling Elvis", etc. I went wow, that sounds like Scotty Moore guitar playing, and of course many, many mimicked "The King"! RIP Scotty and Elvis!
What a nice guy. An original for sure and yet he was modest and didn't have a bad word to say about anyone publicly. I wish Elvis would've stuck with him. I didn't know anything about Scotty Moore until I heard Keith Richards talk about him. However, I loved the sounds that Scotty came up with in the earlier records. Scotty's a fine example of how to behave in some very controversial spots.
Mr. Winfield Scott Moore - a true, honest, down to earth, real deal musician/guitarist. So sincere, humble, introspective. A real gentleman who is a legend and, yes, he IS the "Godfather" of certainly rockabilly-style guitar. I had the good fortune of meeting and speaking with him once. Wonderful to hear him here. Moms old Phillips and her 45 records is what got me going. Of course Elvis was the most rocking she had in her collection only because she had no R&B, rather country western artists. I got bongos from dad so I used my Lincoln logs as drum stick while jammin to I Got Stung,Jail house Rock, Blue Suede Shoes and such. Is why I am a musician today.
Watching this video really warms my heart. As a child on the weekends in my house there was constant music being played during the day no tv and Elvis was played every day. What a voice! He was the best!
if he hadn't played like he did we wouldn't have had rockers like Keith Richards or Jimmy Page or Jeff Beck to listen to years later. He was as responsible for creating the sound of rock and roll guitar as Chuck Berry. A few yrs later Lonnie Mack and the Ventures took it up a notch closer to what the Brits ended up doing with guitars in the mid -late 60s. But Scotty got things moving in the right direction

"There was no preference at all... music was - everything was fine with me." That really says it all about Scotty's appreciation for all kinds of music. And it reflected in his playing, big time. A real open mind.
I met Mr. Scotty in Clarksville,Va. at Moes Guitar 🎸 Shop. I understood that he was visiting kin folk at Kerr Lake. A few local musicians would have a jam session every Wednesday. Mr. Scotty set in and I sung That's Alright Mama and he played the heck out of guitar. He paid me a very high complement, him not knowing that in 1978 -1980 I was doing Elvis tribute shows in Chicago. He told me that he had never encountered a singer with the sound and live energy so close to Elvis. I thanked him and we talked and played old songs for about a hour. God bless the memories of this kind man.
When the colonel dumped Scotty and Bill, Mr. Moore went out as a producer and recorded Tragedy by Thomas Wayne, a million seller on the first time out. Genius.
Rebecca Robbins And Elvis foolishly signed a contract that paid the Colonel Fifty percent of his earnings. That’s a ripoff! Most normal managers get twenty percent at most. So the Colonel took advantage of Elvis. And he got rid of Scotty, Bill Black and DJ Fontana the drummer. That was the original band! That was practically a crime to get rid of his original band. They only got back together once during the 68 Comeback Special. The Colonel was hated by almost everyone and rightly so. What a piece of Garbage! 🗑
Well, Colonel didn't drop them, but they DID quit for a bit but came back. Scotty opened the studio when Elvis was in the army. When Elvis was done in the army, Scotty and DJ went back with him for 8 plus more years.... in 1969, Elvis asked Scotty and DJ and the Jordanaires to all play as his group in Vegas for a month....they ALL said NO !-----as Elvis later said "They all had families by then and didn't want to leave home for a month. Same when i started touring, thet said they couldn't." Scotty told Elvis to get James Burton to form a band for him, and EP took Scotty's advice.
@@dynjarren7523 That is told in the press, but EP's friends in their books point out that Colonel got 50% ONLY on a FEW deals for merchandise.----Parker got a much lower 20% for EP's record money and the profits from concerts....Colonel said he earned the 20% because he devoted 100% of his effort to EP and had no other clients....that seems fair, since they both made HUGE sums of money

Grew up listening to Elvis and Scotty when they first came out, can still feel the effect. Just listened today 2019 to Hound Dog. Shockingly powerful!
Watching and listening to Scotty Moore during this interview, it is very obvious that he was an intuitive musician. He played what he felt was appropriate for the song he was playing.
Scotty's Guitar solo on "Good Rockin' Tonight" is my all-time favourite!
Scotty and Bill ( and DJ Fontana later) were just as talented in their own fields as Elvis was in his. It was a dream come true to see AND hear Scotty play those 50's and 60's Elvis classics live in Dublin a few years before he died.

I've always thought that he was a very humble, decent man who just happened to have a wonderful talent. How lucky that he, Bill and DJ met Elvis!
Elvis did not throw Scotty under the bus. He had a manager that made all the decisions. Things always happened for a reason. Elvis talent was singing. Scotty talent was playing guitar. It was a team effort. One person can't be credited. Each individual were talented. But just like in AFL, there is always that star in the team that stands out. In this case it was Elvis. Scotty was a talented man that all the quitarists looked up to him. Just like Queen. Who was the showman? Freddy but his quitarist was awesome too. Don't say without Scotty Moore be no Elvis. Embrace the music and the talents and don't say without somebody there would be nobody. Elvis respected all these people. Elvis gone but people making money writing books and interviews with relation to him or association with him, it sheer mention of his name! Respect for all these legends.☮️

I believe people that can play by ear have such a gift . It's such a blessing . The greatest thing about this interview with Scotty Moore is that he tells it like it is . He doesn't make up a bunch lies and made up nonsense that some others have done . I've come to realize the older I get .... the more I can read what type of person they are and Scotty Moore seems to be a straight shooter in my opinion . I think it's sad though that Scotty couldn't have stayed on with Elvis for a few more years though . I don't think Scotty Moore did too bad for himself though . RIP Scotty Moore. You'll always be love just as much as Elvis and you will never be forgotten .

Spent nearly a year in Millington, Tn with USN in training command; never visited Graceland, never went to hear music on Beale St., I was sick of Elvis this and Elvis that from my dad and his parents, got just plain sick of hearing 'bout Elvis. Amazingly, after I left and went to San Diego and did a couple of deployments (WestPacs) I realized the significance of Elvis as well as all the music that came out of Memphis, north Mississippi,that whole area. The country blues, R&B, "Rockabilly", just tons of great music recorded at Sun studios. When Queen did "Crazy little thing called love", Dire Straits did "Calling Elvis", etc. I went wow, that sounds like Scotty Moore guitar playing, and of course many, many mimicked "The King"! RIP Scotty and Elvis!
What a nice guy. An original for sure and yet he was modest and didn't have a bad word to say about anyone publicly. I wish Elvis would've stuck with him.
I didn't know anything about Scotty Moore until I heard Keith Richards talk about him. However, I loved the sounds that Scotty came up with in the earlier records.
Scotty's a fine example of how to behave in some very controversial spots.
I've never met Scott Moore, but I've heard his guitar playing, and I watched this interview.

Moms old Phillips and her 45 records is what got me going. Of course Elvis was the most rocking she had in her collection only because she had no R&B, rather country western artists. I got bongos from dad so I used my Lincoln logs as drum stick while jammin to I Got Stung,Jail house Rock, Blue Suede Shoes and such. Is why I am a musician today.
Watching this video really warms my heart. As a child on the weekends in my house there was constant music being played during the day no tv and Elvis was played every day. What a voice! He was the best!
if he hadn't played like he did we wouldn't have had rockers like Keith Richards or Jimmy Page or Jeff Beck to listen to years later. He was as responsible for creating the sound of rock and roll guitar as Chuck Berry. A few yrs later Lonnie Mack and the Ventures took it up a notch closer to what the Brits ended up doing with guitars in the mid -late 60s. But Scotty got things moving in the right direction

He played Merle Travis style and stuck close to the rhythm at Sun; at RCA, though, he played in a more fluid, contemporary, rhythm and blues style.
Chuck wrote some good songs, but his playing was rudimentary at best. Not in Scotty's league.

I met Mr. Scotty in Clarksville,Va. at Moes Guitar 🎸 Shop. I understood that he was visiting kin folk at Kerr Lake. A few local musicians would have a jam session every Wednesday. Mr. Scotty set in and I sung That's Alright Mama and he played the heck out of guitar. He paid me a very high complement, him not knowing that in 1978 -1980 I was doing Elvis tribute shows in Chicago. He told me that he had never encountered a singer with the sound and live energy so close to Elvis. I thanked him and we talked and played old songs for about a hour. God bless the memories of this kind man.

When the colonel dumped Scotty and Bill, Mr. Moore went out as a producer and recorded Tragedy by Thomas Wayne, a million seller on the first time out. Genius.

Rebecca Robbins And Elvis foolishly signed a contract that paid the Colonel Fifty percent of his earnings. That’s a ripoff! Most normal managers get twenty percent at most. So the Colonel took advantage of Elvis.
And he got rid of Scotty, Bill Black and DJ Fontana the drummer. That was the original band! That was practically a crime to get rid of his original band. They only got back together once during the 68 Comeback Special.
The Colonel was hated by almost everyone and rightly so. What a piece of Garbage! 🗑
Well, Colonel didn't drop them, but they DID quit for a bit but came back. Scotty opened the studio when Elvis was in the army. When Elvis was done in the army, Scotty and DJ went back with him for 8 plus more years.... in 1969, Elvis asked Scotty and DJ and the Jordanaires to all play as his group in Vegas for a month....they ALL said NO !-----as Elvis later said "They all had families by then and didn't want to leave home for a month. Same when i started touring, thet said they couldn't." Scotty told Elvis to get James Burton to form a band for him, and EP took Scotty's advice.
@@dynjarren7523 That is told in the press, but EP's friends in their books point out that Colonel got 50% ONLY on a FEW deals for merchandise.----Parker got a much lower 20% for EP's record money and the profits from concerts....Colonel said he earned the 20% because he devoted 100% of his effort to EP and had no other clients....that seems fair, since they both made HUGE sums of money

Those Sun years were the beginnings of Rock and Roll and Scotty was a very big part of that. He was a great musician who played with Elvis, and Scotty became a legend himself. He is and always will be, one of the best.
I`ve always loved Scotty. He has always been extremely likable and such an outstanding musician. I`m convinced they are all rocking and "ghospeling" in Heaven. R.I.P. Scotty and the whole gang.
