practice makes perfect. like you said time on file. give square another try. anything you learn there seems to make you a better round filer too. i get better every time i sharpen a chain. the goal in my opinion is to have all the teeth and rakers the exact same.
I've had a doubt for some time now: if I install a 3/8 low profile chain on a large saw meant for a regular 3/8 chain, what happens? Will it break? Will it perform better?

I got better at sharpening by filing frozen chain. The top plate gets a sweat line that helps as a guide for angle and lift as you file.
Those choke pulls don't like to bend much.
