The Volvo EX30 has great quality and drives well. It ist very compact, tending to be small. Efficiency is average. The Model 3 is much bigger (+50cm) and offers more space, more power and better range. Difficult choice!

Me , the wife and kids test drove one a few weeks ago and were blown away! We are coming from a Honda Accord and currently own a Mazda CX9...the Model 3 is far superior in comfort and overall experience...the turn indicators were surprisingly not an issue for me..i can see how roundabouts and quick changing lanes would be a problem. i genuinely like this formula. simple, modern, cheap but good built, technologically superior vehicle. the only thing missing here is a rear wheel steering that’s in new cybertruck for easy parking. would appreciate yoke steering wheel with steer by wire but it’s not that necessary. i do believe that this is THE car for everyone in europe.

@@martinlisbonmusic2506 I'm not sure how familiar you are with rain or rather water repellents, but they are a great solution in this case. It makes the lack of a rear wiper much less necessary, as the wind will blow almost all the water off thanks to the very slanted roof. I personally use RainX on all my vehicles for this reason.

There are very few sedans that have rear wheel steering and way fewer (if any) at a sub 40k (usd) price point. I don’t find rear wheel steering to be necessary for a sedan anyway as they are already quite maneuverable compared to an suv or pickup. Otherwise I agree that this is a modern well built car.

I already have mine for a month, but the AWD version. I agree a lot about the quality, is a well finished car and has many features that you can find in cars in higher price range. However, as you mention, it has several "annoyances".
    1. The BIGGEST one, the turn indicators.
    * Not having them in a fixed place bothers me a lot. Here in Belgium you have a lot of roundabouts, is very difficult to indicate when you are going to exit.
    * You always need to indicate before turn, otherwise it will be hard.
    * Some times in the highway, you press the wrong button (maybe in a stress condition), and is difficult to know which one you pressed. There is no indication, like in the normal cars, the lights in the dashboard
    * Other times, pressing the button does not work, so you have to press another time or harder
    * The lack of the normal "sticks" makes difficult to share the car to other people
    2. Cruise control
    * I think I have like a 80% working rate for this. You have a small wheel to scroll up or down to increase or decrease the speed. If you scroll like 3 or 4 "clicks", it increase or decrease the speed by 5 Km/h, and you may fail this last frequently. So keep scrolling one by one
    * The last update, now allows you to disable the wipers. But again, it does not respect my preferences. If the wipers are turned off in the configuration and you turn the cruise control on, the wipers are changed to Auto and you have to disable them back again.
    * When the car detects a new speed limit, it automatically slows down if is lower that the previous one. In several situations, it detected wrongly the speed limit sign and it slows down without any reason and you start fighting with the car to speed up. It doesn't allows you to set a higher speed either.
    3. Autosteer (like a cruise control but keeps your car centered in the lane)
    * I configured to set it on by making double click on the scroll wheel button in the steering wheel. A lot of times, when I have the cruise control on and try to start the Autosteer, it fail to recognize the double click and it disables the cruise control. The first times it happened, I paniqued because the car start breaking (because of the Regenerative Braking) in the highway and I had cars at the back. I learned that if I want to turn on the Autosteer, always put the feet in the accelerator!
    * Same other problems as the cruise control
    * Also problems with the high lights. When Autosteer is turned on, it change the settings to automatically turn on the high lights when needed. The problem is it turn them in the highway and bother other cars. So, you have to manually change the configuration to use the lower only. But there is a catch, when you park the car, the car lights will not turn off!!! You have to turn them off manually. I stopped using Autosteer at night or in low light conditions, to avoid disable all the time the wipers and lights, even is a really good option.
    * I think if you switch between Cruise control and Autosteer, you have to change back the wipers and lights again because are restored to Auto.
I think, this are the 3 most annoying things that you will have. The last 2 are fixable by a software update, but the first one, we should complain a lot and maybe have a recall from the goverment to make Tesla give the option to put the light indicators again.

🥴Yes, ok, but still suboptimal. I find that holding your thum on the right turn signal button from when you enter the roundabout works reasonably well. But I do not like Tesla's solution.

Not at all a no brainer, just a choice worth considering. When you notice the noise at highway speed compared to other cars in that price range (Hyundai Ioniq 5/6, BMW iX1, Kia EV6) and the really bad seats for a tall person, not to mention the indicator and gear selecter choices, it doesn't seem a no brainer anymore. Good car, depends what you're looking for and what you like.

    • @danfronzeil7332

@@Bogdan27911 For me this is also an investment. Hyundai, BMW, Kia EV technology is already 10 years outdated compared to Tesla Highland, and yet their prices are higher! I would feel like buying a rundown apartment for more than a brand new villa! I rarely drive cars, so this will be first time getting properly used to a car, I don't mind if it's different than all others. The downsides you present are all related to comfort (or how spoiled or used to something else you are). Entirely superficial. For me it's a no brainer. But you can do whatever you want with your money, of course ;-)

      @ProXcaliber Рік тому

@@Bogdan27911 I've always purchased cars around the price range of the Model 3 Long Range. And for the price, they offer the most features, and comfort from equivalent competition. I currently don't own the Model 3 Highland, but I do plan on purchasing it later this year, once my lease on my current car (2021 Acura) ends. Compared to my current car, it offers more features, and equivalent or slightly more comfort. As the other person already mentioned, what you value in the car is completely subjective, and you may put higher priority on certain aspects more than others. And what you are used to also plays a role in your final decision, of course. For me, personally, this car is a big upgrade from my current car, and nothing else in the market in the same segment and price comes close.

Great review! Agree 100% about your feedback regarding a HUD. I would only posit that with the transition away from stocks Tesla intends to turn to steer-by-wire with variable ratio steering in all future models, which makes the transition from stocks much more natural because of the associated small lock to lock angle with the steering wheel. Obviously it's more of a problem without the steer-by-wire.

Yesterday I made a test drive of the Model 3 Standard. At first you detect a big improvement of the suspension. I drove Model 3 SRplus from year 2019 & 2021. Now I drive Model Y LR, and the suspension is also better than Model Y. Much more silent, more lumpish sounds if the street has wrinkles but still a sporty feeling and handling. After 20min driving I have no problems with the new indicator buttons. In opposite if I came back to Model Y, the indicator lever feels really old school and massive😂. Thanks for your review.

We ordered Tesla model 3 Highland, and main reason for that is that i like what Tesla did ,is improving the Car significantly in comparison with previous one,and price stayed the same. It’s something that many Car manufacturers would not do. Head up display is something is really missing on every Tesla Car. I mean Electric Car is so cost friendly in day life, from Insurance to charging costs, inspection etc ( there is information that’s probably true about tiers that they don’t last long, something like 2 years, and if so it’s still ok for me,i can live with spending 800€ for new tires every 2 years) in comparison with petrol/engine car. Of course for somebody that drives long track very often is not best option, but form many people yes. In my case ,if we take vacation, its flying somewhere to 90% of the time. To be fair, from where i live , 800km range/radius (meaning start from home fully charged, and having one stop to charge on the way) it’s more then enough for us to take family trip.

Good review. Your English sounds like you are Danish, like me. Are you planning to also review the BYD Seal RWD. Here in Denmark it is the clear competitor to the model 3 RWD. It is currently a little more expensive, but not if you go for the 19" wheels on the Tesla. But BYD sells the Seal almost 10000 Euro cheaper in Australia and even includes the HUD, real leather and V2L adapter with this model, which they dont do in Europe. In Australia they even sells an entry level version with a 60kw battery for around 30000 Euro. This model has a weaker motor, artificial leather and 18" wheels like the Tesla, and no HUD, much like the European version.

We do not have BYD here in Switzerland yet - but I look forward to testing out the Seal. BYD is the manufacturer to watch and the most likely manufacturer to challenge Tesla for leadership in EV sales. The BYD Seal should be fine, just make sure to lease it ilo of buying it because the residual values may be poor. The efficiency/range of the Tesla should be better, though.

Greetings from Zug and thanks for the great review Mr Hannesbo. You've gotten me off the fence about the Long and Standard range Highlands. I think the Standard is more than enough for me, and the LFP battery with its 100% charge ability puts it on parity with an 80 % charged NCA battery. Of course you can also charge an NCA to 100% but with > degradation. As for the stalk issue, I agree it is a pain and not optimal for European drivers but I will have to adapt (I will however be mad if they do a U-turn and bring stalks back later).

I live in Midwest u.s. and i'm looking forward to a highland at some point this year, initially wanted the RWD as lowest price point and reasonable range for me, I live where winters are really snowy and icy and past rear wheel drive vehicles of mine the rear end badly wants to come around but them have all been older cars that predate anti slip tech. I've not heard much iif any comments on how RWD performs in icy/snowy conditions on these review videos and i've been curious to know. p.s. might have to choose AWD regardless though unless something changes, cause Performance version is only one keeping the u.s. 7500 ev federal discount it seems for 2024 for model 3 and with that against a non discounted RWD or LR, what can one do. :P I think model y RWD gets the discount so I will probably have to evaluate between performance 3 or rwd y, but would want juniper update and probably need a car before then, oh well :). @@morten_hannesbo I thought I should potentially opt for the performance only because its the only one that qualifies for 7500; but perhaps knowing the oddness of the decisionmaking involved due to that perhaps that is why they are not currently offering performance now that they are offering highland here as of today/yesterday. The custom builder only has RWD and LR. I guess it makes it less difficult for me that way 🤔. I worry a bit if I order now maybe something changes in a month. But currently my current concern is I cant make up my mind between ultra red, blue and stealth gray. Im a blue person but not been keen on the blue they offer, I'm not normally a red person but I like certain shades of red and ultra red might work for me, grey might be what I go for. might have been nice if the quicksilver were available. ultimately I think I need drive to the showplace 1.5hrs from me and just stare at whatever colors are on inventory vehicles in person but I checked inventory vehicles and ultra red S (just to choose colors for the online custom builder since no highland e's in inventory yet may not be for very long time hafta order it via the web) and blue anything, but no inventory stealth grays. I'd thought stealth gray was supposed to have been normal for some s and x. apparently none sitting around near me. If I burn a few weeks maybe they'll have something in inventory so I can assuage my color issues, youtube videos just dont translate same as in person. would be nice if vinyl wraps weren't so expensive then nothing would matter I could guaranteed find something for me that way. Wish tesla vertically integrated wrapping to the point they could force the pricing of it down or do it at cost to drive sales. Sorry im wordy. There prob is no cure for that. 🤒

The indicator buttons on the wheel is the biggest drawback for me. Tried for three months to get used to it in the model S, but I found that it was impossible to use without actually taking your eyes off the road and looking down first, which is a safety concern in roundabouts for example. You don't want to look down at the steering wheel in a critical situation with cars all around you.
The problem is that the buttons move around when turning the wheel. You never really know where they end up until you look down. A fixed stalk on the other hand is always in the same location, so you can train your muscle memory to use it even without looking. I can always find the indicator stalk, even with my eyes closed. But I will never ever be able to turn the wheel, and then put my finger on the correct button with my eyes closed in a new model 3... That's just impossible, and that's the problem here.
It's just a foolish cost-cutting decision by Tesla, just like the removal of the ultrasonic parking sensors. The park assist is basically useless now that it's camera-based, just like the auto wipers which are still terrible after all these years, despite constant promises to fix it. Apparently, cameras are not an ideal replacement for everything... I wish they bring back the stalks at some point, but they probably won't..
I was hyped about the new model 3, and had decided to buy one, but the turn signal buttons on the steering wheel is reason enough for me to not buy one, unfortunately. There are roundabouts everywhere here, and It's really that annoying, and I don't want to pay good money for a car that constantly annoys me.

Thanks Steve Martin. Good question, because it is difficult to see when you are a driver! I tested it, and I can tell you that it is a yes and a no. If regenerative braking is aggressively slowing (such as when your foot is completely off the accelerator pedal at highway speeds), then the brake lights turn on to alert others that you are slowing down. If you just use regenerative braking slightly it will not come on. PS Congrats on your son's purchase.

The buttons on the steering wheel will be awkward for signalling an exit from a roundabout. Can a turn signal be activated by voice command?
