Hey Mike, quick recommendation from an internet rando, but if you enjoy playing co-op games with your daughter, give Enshrouded a look, I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful world they’ve created and the base building is deeply satisfying. But if that’s not your gig, then I strongly recommend my GOTY and that’s Helldivers 2. This is the new Halo in terms of being beautiful looking and ridiculous amounts of CONSTANT fun.
@thedudeabides3138 love enshrouded I bought it and am waiting till it gets some more content, but what I played of it was a really fun survival experience.
I think the road map they laid out for this game is a good one. They locked really good content behind a paywall in the first game and it split the player base and so the DLC content rarely got played. Subsidizing new content with the optional purchase of cosmetics is a good way to go I think. I hope they continue making content for this game for years and years to come.
The level of content is the only thing that gives me pause. I've played a few missions of the campaign, the quality is great, but I'm worried about the longevity of the PvE and PvP content for sure
100%. I know some people will just always hate microtransactions, but most of those people are children. Games are not the same thing they use to be, and it takes sooooo much more work than it use to in days before DLC and microtransactions. I think it's totally fair to try and get additional revenue for a game, I don't think anyone finds t-shirts or other merch too far, and I don't see a huge difference. As long as microtransactions don't effect gameplay, and the company doesn't ever remove items people bought, it should work. You do however can have a debate about how smart they are to buy, considering as soon as the game shuts off servers, all that money becomes a waste (if it wasn't already)

My biggest two issues have been the lack of replay-ability, because while there is some variance in the missions, they're still the same missions over and over, and there just isn't enough of them. The "between mission" should have been different. There should just be a lobby and in that lobby you can que up any mission you want. Play solo, group with friends, or que from that lobby, like in Helldivers for example. The story missions, once completed, should become accessible as selectable missions you can play with the progression system. I also had some performance issues where characters and enemy models would completely disappear and I'd be fighting invisible enemies with invisible allies, but my pc is at the low end so some performance issues are expected.
Great video man, its good to see you branching out of your usual niche and covering a more genre of games hope ya keep it up if not whell ill still be here 😂
I feel like making DLC cosmetic only and including gameplay updates for free was a very deliberate and well thought out choice. In older games like battlefield 4 and even Halo 3 to some extent, the multiple DLC map packs kind of fractured the player base and could make matchmaking a real problem sometimes. And those were wildly popular games with enormous player bases. I think for a game like this, it’s a better approach for the long term health of the game.
I like your reviews but I wish you gave more basic info. For Space Marine 2, do the campaign missions use checkpoints, or can you save? Is there a death penalty? How many players are on a team in the other modes? For PvP is there deathmatch or team deathmatch? These are things I’d like to know.
-Missions use checkpoints however you can load a autosave from your last checkpoint mid mission - Campaign and Operations are 3 player Co-op while the PVP is 6v6 -There is Team Deathmatch in PVP
I just finding the operations fun, cant get tired of it. Also really enjoying the customization, me and my friends are going Blood Ravens to remind us of the RTS game
For playing solo, wonder if setting Steam to offline mode would work? Though I agree with you, there should be an in-game option to play without matchmaking.
I know nothing about the lore aside from watching those awesome Astartes videos that one guy made a series out of, and this game is pretty fun. It's a good shootem up game that includes the slicing and dicing, which is pretty cool and what was missing from Helldivers. You take shots and when you get overrun you pull out the melee weapon and start leaving free alien meat pies everywhere around you for the locals. It also seems to have a decent armor system also. At first I was a little overwhelmed by the controls but it didn't take long to get the hang of it. I'm used to games where I can jump around and climb etc but I didn't really find it annoying I couldn't do that in this game cause it makes sense. You're a badass in a big heavy suit and all you need to worry about is walking the path and taking the lives.
I enjoyed playing it, the atmosphere of 40k is great, but the game isn't without its issues. I wish executions always healed, like they did in SM1. There is too much resource starving with not enough ammo and stim packs. I would also like to see classes receive some balancing, right now snipers are very strong in pvp and conversely, not very good in coop.
I'd say if it's not something that gets you really hyped, wait for a sale. It's a good game, but it's hard to justify the 60$ price tag if you're not a big fan of the franchise imo.
Awesome review, you did a great job! What I saw so far, the game doesn't cost it's money, specifically comparing to the similar games on the market. Just my opinion and my preferences😅
I've been considering getting the game, but I think I'll wait a while. I was hoping there would be something like the operations mode, but it isn't what I was hoping for. What I was hoping to see was some sort of procedurally generated missions with endless replayability. I've been hoping to see a PVE extraction shooter come out. And when I saw this game, I thought about the replayable and customisable nature of the table top game, and hoped they would incorporate that in some form procedurally generated PVE and PVP modes. As great as the game looks, money is tight these days. So if they do release a procedurally generated PVE operations/extraction shooter style mode, then it'll be worth it for me.
There's 4 difficulty levels for PvE. The lowest can be solo'd fairly easily with the bots. The 2nd requires some decent skill and good perks/weapons. I don't think you could consistently solo the 3rd difficulty and the 4th would definitely need a co-ordinated team with good kit.
Loved the campaign and the minimal threat difficulty. On average, the game begins feeling a lot less fun. You get significantly less ammo, enemies become bullet sponges and you heal for 50% less. On veteran and angel of death this problem becomes much bigger. An elite enemy takes around 20 headshots + some bullets to the body on most weapons and you are starved for ammo. You need to go around the same areas you've been hundreds of times to try and find some ammo.
i was wonder could you tell me what is your current PC rig, i thought this game needed a meaty PC to run so to hear you also played this on Steam deck i thought would not be possbile
Me and a buddy have been playing this, operations can bit a bit unbalance because honestly there is one fun that’s just leaps and bounds better, the multi-melter. Thing just kills hordes like no one’s business, to the point where if your class can’t use it might as well be don’t use that class🤔
Glad you had fun! I loved the original game, but I'll only ever play this one on solo mode. Do you feel there's enough content in that part to justify full price or should I wait for a sale? You've saved me a bunch of money in the past with your honesty, so I trust your opinion.
Eh well you have 6 campaign mission 6 operations mission (that you play over and over to level up) and there pvp mode with acouple of modes and no private lobbies yet
Those issues notes are the same on console for me. The matchmaking portion has a key symbol in the top right that you can apply a join code. That's the only way I've found to sort of control the party
I bought the base version of it, I am a 40k fan but the price is really steep. For what it offers it should be half in my opinion. I get many disconnects, since the multiplayer I think is the selling point of this game, campaigns long as an act of any other game (don't even bother to compare with the complexity and deph of Wukong). I believe that this game will fail soon if no updates are added. I wanted to see a 40k style of The Division, I think would had been better.
@@richardhunter9779 Not with regards to this game. There was a bug in the game that cause the frequency of the CPU to shoot up to insane levels and cause overheating. There is an 80+ page thread about it on the steam forums. The workaround was to disable boost clocks in your Power Management plan in windows. The patch they just released yesterday fixed the issue though, so its back to normal.
So I have played games like Hell Divers 2 and Halo and was wondering for anyone who has played those games did you enjoy this one was it similar in anyway was it better than recent Halo games or even Hell Divers 2 any feedback would greatly appreciated seeing how expensive games are now a days thanks
Haven't played it yet- but on the face of it there's a lot more melee combat than those games. More like Vermintide 2, or Darktide. And you need to do lots of melee "finisher" moves like in the new DOOM games. So you're a bit more of a hulking clunky tank that chops people up as much as they shoot them it seems to me. Not bad, but definitely plays different than halo or HD2. HD2 especially, I don't understand the comparisons people make there.
Nice review. I'm still waiting for a patch or two before doing a proper playthrough from start to finish. What I wait for is a fix for cutscenes and the audio not matching properly. Pausing the cutscenes to wait for the game to load did not fix it for me thus I wait for a patch. Cutscenes during the missions and such work with no problems it's just the transistory cutscenes that go whack for me.
@@cirescythe If not that patch, then it'll be another. At least game runs pretty well for me unlike the early access of No Rest For the wicked which is unplayable for me since the ea launch.
Great game and in improvement over the first in most every way. Except one. They removed the ability to replenish health through combat actions as well. So we have to rely on pickups to recharge the stim charges which is about as non-Space Marine as it gets. The game is great and an improvement over the original in most ways. Except this one area where it is a serious regression. Arguably game-breaking because of how it so badly degrades the core of the melee combat experience. What they could do to help immensely is have armor pips recharge on the current headshot system and stim recharge on melee finishers. This would help immensely in being able to keep up combat flow in the bigger fights when you often must melee as well as feel like a post-human, walking tank, killing machine instead of feeling like you're in any other video game spamming dodge roll to find a health pickup.
That antenna part is when I realized how bad the bots really were. I ran out of ammo while the tryrannids were eating away at the antennas, and the bots were allllllllllll the way on the other side doing....like nothing lol. I had to quit at that point but I'm about to give it another go.
I am having a blast with the game, except because every time y play PvP I get Chaos Marines, which is not bad but they are not as customisable as Space Marines and if you spend so much time customizing your Space Marine to never playing with him... Not good. Hope they patch that. Still it's lots of fun
I love the PvE modes but PvP is ROUGH. Balance is just... weird and falls into the "new players are at an inherent disasvantage because you unlock objectively better weapons as you level up" trap.

Thank you for reviewing this! It is really interesting to hear your thoughts on the game given your channel's claim to fame.
I like your reviews but I wish you gave more basic info. For Space Marine 2, do the campaign missions use checkpoints, or can you save? Is there a death penalty? How many players are on a team in the other modes? For PvP is there deathmatch or team deathmatch? These are things I’d like to know.
-Missions use checkpoints however you can load a autosave from your last checkpoint mid mission
- Campaign and Operations are 3 player Co-op while the PVP is 6v6
-There is Team Deathmatch in PVP
The developers have an in house game engine (called the swarm engine) that they created and used for the world war z game and then adapted for this.
The power of 40k is that its so badass and such an interesting world that you find yourself immersed even in games you wouldn't think you'd like.
Opposite for me. I need a good story and media to be able to stomach 40k as a backdrop.
You and mandaloregaming are keeping the review scene alive for me🎉
This was great! Thank you.
I think you are a really good reviewer. I appreciate your take on things
Been having a ton of fun in operations and pvp as a tactical. The ability isn't as exciting but the healthy mix of melee and ranged is fun.
MORTYYYYY thank you for the review!!
I think they’re adding more operations later on- not 100% sure though. I don’t recall where I heard that’s
I just finding the operations fun, cant get tired of it. Also really enjoying the customization, me and my friends are going Blood Ravens to remind us of the RTS game
My bots in Single Player campaign were OP. I just stood there and they killed everything.
Yeah im playing veteran right now and they have carried at moments
Mine act like they have been lobotomized.
i downloaded this game yesterday didn’t played it yet.
but is playing on a steamdeck not almost playing with a controller ?
For playing solo, wonder if setting Steam to offline mode would work? Though I agree with you, there should be an in-game option to play without matchmaking.
Good addition to Rogue Trader :)
Was not sure about the steamdeck, thanks for the update man, getting it right now!
I don't know if it's because I'm getting older but I found the controls so awkward 😂 had to abandon playing as I just couldn't do it!
Would love to see you cover more games like this
I hope these developers make a new Hulk game or a new Punisher game
This game restored my faith in brotherhood
For Ultramar
I just posted my first Space Marine playthrough, if you can check it out and let me know what you think would appreciate you! Thank you!
Wait how did you get that kill count achievement 0.0% of people have that
Wow
Inferno operation solo, minimal difficulty. 500+ enemies to kill in around 15 minutes at max level
Can I play the operations mode offline? Can I also level up bots for the mode?
I enjoyed playing it, the atmosphere of 40k is great, but the game isn't without its issues. I wish executions always healed, like they did in SM1. There is too much resource starving with not enough ammo and stim packs. I would also like to see classes receive some balancing, right now snipers are very strong in pvp and conversely, not very good in coop.
it is pricey for the single player length. if multiplayer is not a big draw…is it worth the dough?
I'd say if it's not something that gets you really hyped, wait for a sale. It's a good game, but it's hard to justify the 60$ price tag if you're not a big fan of the franchise imo.
If you only want to play the main campaign, no.
Mortim, If you look at the road map they recently posted, more variety to the missions and enemies are being added
And then you say that yourself 15 seconds later in the video
Awesome review, you did a great job!
What I saw so far, the game doesn't cost it's money, specifically comparing to the similar games on the market. Just my opinion and my preferences😅
Why am I even watching your "First Impressions" when the 100% video will be uploaded the next day? 🤣
Hopefully my library gets this game
So, all PVE missions can be played, and completed eventually, with just bots? On all difficulty levels?
There's 4 difficulty levels for PvE. The lowest can be solo'd fairly easily with the bots. The 2nd requires some decent skill and good perks/weapons. I don't think you could consistently solo the 3rd difficulty and the 4th would definitely need a co-ordinated team with good kit.
@@squatmufu6117there are max difficulty solo vids on UA-cam. So it is possible.
i bet most of the people watching this review
already own the game
Yeah, they've supported World War Z long term. So I expect the same thing here.
And their swarm tech is so cool, I agree.
I will say in terms of more content they will be adding new Operations/PVP maps and modes for free post launch
Lmao, that shielded mini against the hammer is just hilarious.
after the third one I was like....I need to know how many hits this is gonna take. A heavy attack will sort it out immediately though.
Great review EZ sub : )
I want to play operations solo. So if I just keep quitting groups I can do it solo?
Friends only setting is on the roadmap. So by the end of the month you will be able to play solo.
Mortismal is beyond god gamer. Comprehensive review as always. Great job Mortismal👍
i was wonder could you tell me what is your current PC rig, i thought this game needed a meaty PC to run so to hear you also played this on Steam deck i thought would not be possbile
Its in the about section of the channel
I just posted my first Space Marine playthrough, if you can check it out and let me know what you think would appreciate you! Thank you!
The eyes of the Emperor are upon you, Brother Mortismal.
I am completly fine by you doing other game reviews as well ❤
Looks dope but I think I'll just wait for a sale or something to make the pricetag look more worth it
Ahhh the only reviewer on UA-cam I believe. Let’s listen.
What CPU/GPU do you have and did you have CPU overheating issues?
Overheating is a problem with the system, not with software. Every system should be able to run at full load indefinitely.
13900k, 4090. Didnt have any problems hardware wise
@@richardhunter9779
Not with regards to this game.
@@MortismalGaming
Good to hear. They released a patch yesterday that fixed the problem anyhow.
This game is a triumph. I’ve been playing 40K for 27 years and it’s everything I could want and more. It’s just time to unlock Dark Angels skins now….
There was a bigger update today😊 i think it adresses those issues.
@@cirescythe Oh. It's nice to know. I will check it out after going back from work.
@@chillax319hope it resolves your particular issues as well. Have fun.
@@cirescythe If not that patch, then it'll be another. At least game runs pretty well for me unlike the early access of No Rest For the wicked which is unplayable for me since the ea launch.
Make sure the game is installed to an SSD, my pal had a similar issue with the game installed to his HDD and switching to the SSD resolved all issues
This game is a love letter to 40k fans! And I love it!
Is it worth it to buy the Season Pass in your opinion??
Not really, unless you just really like cosmetics
I really hope they patch in a button to play Operations solo with bots...That's nuts they try to force matchmaking and make it weird.
Worst section of the entire game tbh
Will buy later today, loved the first one and the bloodgod needs more blood
this plays really good and it feels like it should!
The operations are Rough past third difficulty on Chaos missions especially. Everything is a bullet/ Power sword swing sponge
