The Samhain version of 'twist of cain' is the best version of the song. It was a perfect fusion of punk and metal. The energy and emotion were so much better than the later version.
When I was a teen in the 80s, in 1986 I had bought the Initium album from a used record bin. I had not heard any of the Misfits songs yet so it was Samhain that first introduced me to Glenn's music. Came across this because I was going to link the Samhain piece to one of my other columns. Had no idea. I love your videos, I spend a lot of my lunch breaks at work with them. Fucking cool surprise.
Cool to see Frumess' interviews cited on a bigger channel. If you love the Misfits, Samhain, Danzig and just East Coast punk rock in general, check out his channel; his interviews are awesome because he's an encyclopedia with that stuff, and he's made personal friendships and collaborations with various dudes from that scene. His most recent Steve Zing interview was great; lots of crazy history I didn't know. He also makes a real effort to include the participation of viewers during live interviews, which is fun; real punk rock spirit.
Originally, Glen was going to reissue the Samhain catalog thru his Evilive record label with the help of Hollywood Records back in 1995 or 1996. I do remember he did reissue the catalog in a box set and individually back in 1999 or 2000 thru Evilive and eOne Entertainment if my memory serves me correct.
I never even heard of the Misfits until I heard the first 3 Danzig albums in like 1993. Long after Misfits disbanded. The Misfits we're totally an underground act and I just cannot agree Glen is more famous for being in that old school punk band who only sold memorabilia not records or concert tickets than his own metal band Danzig who played arenas and actually had radio hit tracks along with several popular MTV music videos.
November coming fire and final decent my favorite Samhain albums Would be awesome if he could put Samhain on the streaming platforms. Apple Music & Spotify
@Jody Ellison so awesome 😎.. if I remember correctly does Initium have songs All guts all murder Human Pony girl. Those are my favorite tracks.. and unholy passion
@@Amy_Ramirez03 all murder, all guts, all fun - is the whole title, human pony girl is on November coming fire. But you probably already looked it up lol.
In the early 90s we had a record store here called The Vinyl Solution. They used to have meet and greets there with musicians who were playing in town. One time this band called Samiam was gonna be there but they accidentally printed Samhain on the flyers and had to deal with a bunch of disappointed metalheads lol
My daughters friends wear Misfits shirts and didnt even know it was a band. I'm talking about girls in high school who's favorite artists are people like J Cole & Drake.
Those Samhain albums were great……Glenn gets a lot of crap but those three bands he fronted and their catalogs were all killer, well, up to Danzig 4 at least where he lost me a bit with his industrial phase.
Truth. The hate he gets is just jealousy cause that man KNOWS what's good. (Usually) I'm almost sure his missteps are due to outside influences/ obligations.
Found the ncf album in the import section (13x13 bin) at rose records in smalltown illinois 35ish yrs ago . Out of all my albums its the only one I framed , such a killer cover. great dark album to listen to on a stormy night
Saw Samhain on the Initium tour twice. Thought they were great. I prefer Samhain to Danzig. And Misfits, that's another story...pure badassery! Glenn has been a prolific and ground breaking song writer for a long time. I'm glad to see him getting recognition. Love him or hate him, he's a hard working sonofagun who's successfully made a ton of influential music.
I was at the Season of the Dead tour in 1985 Detroit. Poster long in tatters. However, I have all the original vinyls with prized possession of the Unholy Passion White Vinyl with Burgundy cover (not tan). Maybe 5-10 were made. NEVER for sale. I don't need the cash :-) Sell your bodily fluids NEVER sell your vinyl.
What people don't understand is that samhain is the same band as Danzig. They were signed by Rick rubin and he encouraged he used his name because of the fact that there was a revolving door of guitar players and drummers. Eerie and Glenn ( Damien too) are the core members just like Jerry and Glenn are the misfits
Grabbed Samhain's "November coming fire" original print on vinyl for next to nothing, years ago at a hole in the wall record shop. Also, had "initiium" original print. Life happens and went through some crazy shit and lost a good majority of stuff I collect. Now I'm seeing, the price for "November coming fire" on vinyl is on eBay ... wish I still had both in my collection. Not that I'd want to sell it. But, give it another 10 years, I bet it will be worth even more.
Got to meet London May at a signing his new band "Symbolism" (with ex-Adolescents/Christian Death members) was doing at my local record store. Swell fella, and the new tunes aren't bad!
The albums have been released though since you put this video. I have like 5 or 6 samhain records. The LPS, the ep and one or two live recordings. So there out there.
The Samhain didn't really break up. It was really Glenn's band all along so when Glenn got signed by Rick Rubin he made changes and took a different direction.
my complaints about the samhain boxed set is 1) they didn't use cd cases and instead chose to use cardboard sleeves, 2) the vhs tape was absolutely horrible quality
I remember seeing Danzig at pulsations and the Trocadero my first song on guitar was twist of cane and my first power chord songs mother when I was a kid I had a lot of 45 bootlegs of The Misfits from repo records
Samhain is the type of music that puts me in the mood to take a walk late at night after the leaves start falling. My favorite tracks are Diabolos '88 off NCF and Night Chill off FD. I hope Glenn decides to reissue the Samhain discography after he's through milking his Elvis cover album with countless reissues and represses.
Not only no reissues but after listening to November Coming Fire just a month ago it's now missing from youtube . Pulled by danzig / Verotic just in time for fall . I'd call is a money grab but there's no way to even buy it except after market that Glenn gets no money from
Samhain 4eva; the trick is to not listen to it for 2 or 3yrs...then unplug your phone, find yourself a corner and blast it all the way through..it is so freagguin good; i think the fact that it is not on major playlists adds to the mystery..'November Coming Fire' is soo delicious...what a display of everything punk and everything Halloween...superb shit; definetly "stranded island" material, thank u Glenn.

@Tobias Chobotuck the Irish have many words and names (Sean (Shawn) is one that comes to mind) that are not pronounced the way they're written. Not unusual for non American English.....
Thank you for this. Samhain is far too overlooked and underrated.
His channel is indeed very cool. He had Zing many times!
I have to admit I love The Misfits but Samhain is just better musically those albums are VERY underrated.
It was Glenn's intention that the music be more complex than the Misfits.
A great, largely forgotten chapter of Punk/Metal history... Thanks!
Samhain is a genre on its own, love that band to death
I never even heard of the Misfits until I heard the first 3 Danzig albums in like 1993. Long after Misfits disbanded. The Misfits we're totally an underground act and I just cannot agree Glen is more famous for being in that old school punk band who only sold memorabilia not records or concert tickets than his own metal band Danzig who played arenas and actually had radio hit tracks along with several popular MTV music videos.
Amazing. Samhain is too underrated
November coming fire and final decent my favorite Samhain albums
Would be awesome if he could put Samhain on the streaming platforms. Apple Music & Spotify
@Jody Ellison so awesome 😎.. if I remember correctly does Initium have songs
All guts all murder
Human Pony girl.
Those are my favorite tracks..
and unholy passion
@@Amy_Ramirez03 all murder, all guts, all fun - is the whole title, human pony girl is on November coming fire. But you probably already looked it up lol.
Sam Hain played 3 shows for each album in our town and we loved them. They loved our girls.
Fun fact: Every photo of Metallica between 1985 and 1987 features a member wearing a Danzig-related t-shirt.
That first picture at 1:40 is NOT Reagan Youth. The one at 1:54 is correct though. - Signed, a New York friend of the late Dave Rubenstein
In the early 90s we had a record store here called The Vinyl Solution. They used to have meet and greets there with musicians who were playing in town. One time this band called Samiam was gonna be there but they accidentally printed Samhain on the flyers and had to deal with a bunch of disappointed metalheads lol
Was that in Long Beach?
@@matthewestrada5217 Grand Rapids, Michigan. My grandma lives in Long Beach though.
@@jessicajujubean5004 popular name I guess 👍
Lol! That's funny, I remember samiam
@@jlobiafra what's really funny is that the people who showed up should have known better. Samhain had been broken up for a few years by that time lol
My daughters friends wear Misfits shirts and didnt even know it was a band. I'm talking about girls in high school who's favorite artists are people like J Cole & Drake.
WOW never thought I'd see this RnRTS! Maybe a Minor Threat episode?
Those Samhain albums were great……Glenn gets a lot of crap but those three bands he fronted and their catalogs were all killer, well, up to Danzig 4 at least where he lost me a bit with his industrial phase.
Truth. The hate he gets is just jealousy cause that man KNOWS what's good. (Usually) I'm almost sure his missteps are due to outside influences/ obligations.
And of course his ego lol
I still like 4p. The writing was there...he lost me for a bit after that.
Danzig 1 is pretty great. But when I pull vinyl out, it's misfits everytime. But cassette tape.......Sam "Fuckin" Hain!
@@ferox965 werd i love Danzig 4
I actually heard and got into Samhain before the Misfits. The Fits were over when I got into Punk...
I have the samhain records on cassette, apparently they are now worth money. it never occurred to me that any cassette would ever be worth anything...
Wow I always thought the garage days re-revisited was made to present Jason to Metallica fans. Didn't have any idea Cliff was behind the project...
That part about him not wanting to call the band "Danzig" because he thought it would be too egotistical has aged very, very well.
Found the ncf album in the import section (13x13 bin) at rose records in smalltown illinois 35ish yrs ago . Out of all my albums its the only one I framed , such a killer cover. great dark album to listen to on a stormy night
This is my favorite of all Danzig stuff.... November coming fire.. let the day begin... moribund
Though Moribund is from Unholy Passion, ...but yeah.
Danzig almost drove over me too when he sped away from the fun fun fun fest in 2011 Austin Texas. No joke.
Saw Samhain during their Halloween mini-tour in 2014. Danzig is an odd-looking dude, irl.
Found them by accident and was blown away I hadn't heard of it sooner
I was at the Season of the Dead tour in 1985 Detroit. Poster long in tatters. However, I have all the original vinyls with prized possession of the Unholy Passion White Vinyl with Burgundy cover (not tan). Maybe 5-10 were made. NEVER for sale. I don't need the cash :-) Sell your bodily fluids NEVER sell your vinyl.
Me too, and my prized vinyl is a white Legacy of Brutality, plus some colored vinyl 7" bootlegs produced in the 80s. And would never sell either!
I really liked November’s Coming Fire, but there’s something about Initium that does it for me. Anyone else feel that way?
100% , Archangel, Black Dream, The Howl, The Shift….Initium is chock full of gems
Woooo! samhain/danzig!
More please.
Great piece!🤘🎸🤘🎤🤘🥁🤘
Noice🤘🏾🔥
The Misfits, Samhain and Danzig are awesome. Glenn Danzig is the man🤘🏾🔥.
Other than that, cool:).
I actually heard of samhain first (before misfits and danzig) thanks musicade!!
Samhain rules... His darkest project ever!it bridged the gap from misfits to Danzig
Probably my favorite of Glenn’s three bands
Samhain owns Misfits!! I've felt that way since first hearing them in 1990!
Samhain 3, Is my favorite danzig album. Then his self-titled 1st n 2nd albums. All straight fire.
Always loved "mother of mercy".
Got to meet London May at a signing his new band "Symbolism" (with ex-Adolescents/Christian Death members) was doing at my local record store. Swell fella, and the new tunes aren't bad!
I love Glenn Danzig's singing voice!
Ever since I saw Toymachine Welcome to Hell Mike Maldonado's skateboard part!
The albums have been released though since you put this video. I have like 5 or 6 samhain records. The LPS, the ep and one or two live recordings. So there out there.
Why did you show Crystar # 3, when it was #8 the image was taken from?
Covered Samhain/misfits this past Halloween with my bad 🤘🤘🤘 ARCH ANGELLLLLLLLLL
The Samhain didn't really break up.
It was really Glenn's band all along so when Glenn got signed by Rick Rubin he made changes and took a different direction.
November Coming Fire 🔥 is one of Glenn's greatest creations!!!!!
You should do: What happened to AMEN or American Head Charge
Hell yeah! AHC are F'ing Awesome!!!!
Glad I saw Samhain
I saw them.it was a really awesome band.They were really tight.glenn sang great. 🤟👍🏼
Yes my day had gotten better!!!!
use to live in Scotland, everyone pronounced Samhain as "Sow-wane", which essentially is halloween/beginning of November in Scottish Gaelic
my complaints about the samhain boxed set is 1) they didn't use cd cases and instead chose to use cardboard sleeves, 2) the vhs tape was absolutely horrible quality
I remember seeing Danzig at pulsations and the Trocadero my first song on guitar was twist of cane and my first power chord songs mother when I was a kid I had a lot of 45 bootlegs of The Misfits from repo records
Was at the Columbus Ohio show ... friggin nuts
Danzigs last album , Skeletons has a Misfits sound. I don’t like every song on the album but overall it’s good.
I'd call is a money grab but there's no way to even buy it except after market that Glenn gets no money from
Samhain is one of those bands that when you die, you will die happy knowing you lived in a time period where this band existed.
Some of the statements made in this post in this video are incorrect but samhain is one of the greatest groups he ever produced
Forreals goddamnit rerelease these digitally please Glen!!
I didn't realize there was a Meatmen connection. Nobody knows those guys and their album War of the Superbikes is one of the best punk albums of all time
I didn't know either, I prefer the meatmen over samhain
@@jlobiafra Same. I definitely like some Samhain songs, but most of it I can't get into
Graham McCulloch from that early Samhain lineup plays Bass on Superbikes and Rock and Roll Juggernaut. Meatmen rule.
hells yes and Brian Baker plays on war of the superbikes too.
Love the Meatmen! Tesco is the nicest dude and loved pen pals back in the day! They pissed everyone off! Lol!
