His talking voice sounds so different than his singing voice
I agree I wasn’t expecting that
@@chipmcdip8629 same lol
I know! His talking voice is so raspy and dry, while his singing is rich and loud
Similar to Ozzy in a way
OMG JC a bomb!
"If I can make people forget, whatever they are dealing with, for two hours every night... it's nice" - Glenn, you are wonderful. We are 138.
Amen... +1
it's a great quote from him. and I honestly believe it.
I'm not 138,.
David Phelan what nazi stuff?
David Phelan you’re definitely not black and I’m positive he doesn’t give a fuck
Had no idea Glen is 65. He looks great for his age, especially enduring a punk rock lifestyle for over 40 years.
Hair dye and decades of working out probably helps a lot.
@@crawlingamongthestars3736 yeah lol
I love glenn but he is wearing black. Helps to hide the belly fat lol
Testosterone replacement therapy can work wonders.
He's built up like my uncle Salvatore
Most underrated front man of all time, what a voice he has.
Daniel Flego great voice, not so sure about underrated
@@dom1880 Yes he is he isn't as known as Elvis or MJ even though I like his voice just as much
@Me He will always lack the widespread appeal of people like those. His music is heavy and dark, and has openly Satanic themes and imagery. These kinds of things will limit who your audience can be. Most people just want to have mindless fun with music they can dance to, or want to hear love songs. And I'm not saying Danzig is super inaccessible, but he is also not all that accessible.
He is overrated
Nobody underrates him. He underrates everyone else.
"If I can make people forget... whatever they're dealing with for...you know.. an hour or two hours every night.. that's nice"
There you have it folks the sole reason to be a musician.
social commentary and activism still puts the focus on a larger issue than your own problems.
Hahaha fucking hipsters with their "soshial commuhnterryyyy"
That is one of many great reasons to be a musician, not the sole reason.
I wonder if he was to fuck Sigourney Weaver is it the same as wanking off in the mirror.
That’s all.
haha I know, right? I was like, "what a lame thing to say."
Glenn actually comes across as very likeable in this. You don't see that too often.
+nogoodbastid Maybe age is FINALLY catching up with him.
+nogoodbastid I know, right? He usually comes off as a colossal ass, but he actually comes off as approachable, here. I'm surprised he didn't name check Iggy & The Stooges, myself--to me, they are the real spiritual fathers of punk rock as we know it.
+nogoodbastid Maybe that punch to the mouth that knocked his ass down did some good finally. I love the Misfits with all my heart and even like some stuff after Samhain, which I also like, but the guy always has been a douche canoe so I agree it's nice to see him for once not trying to play the peacock.
+Fecal Thunder That punch was 10 years ago. He was being a total dick long after that. I'm sure being a punk rocker growing up in Lodi, NJ (which people used to joke stands for Land Of Dumb Italians) he took his fair share of punches in his day. I've always thought that to be why Danzig has the stereotypical macho tough guy attitude. That was the environment he grew up in.
Dude right? !
How can anyone not love Glenn Danzig. He has been the real deal since the 1970's. I never had the priviledge to attend a Misfits show, but I have been to a few Danzing concerts and he never fails to deliver. This is a real man. He has none of the pretentious bullshit, and that matters.
Ask Vivian Campbell how "real" Danzig is lol
Or Danny Marianino from North Side Kings
@@steady747I'm asking you because that's easier. So what's the deal?
I got to see the Misfits and the Circle Jerks in Denver 1983, ugh, I'm old now..lol.
@@steady747that comment was 6 years old dumbass
Me:
UA-cam: How about some Glenn Danzig?
Me: Sure.
It might be because of his CRITICALLY acclaimed new film, Verotika! Right now it's sitting pretty at a 30% on Rotten Tomatoes, with all of the positive reviews actively shitting on it and comparing it to the Room! All of the actors are probably pornstars! You should watch it, it's terrible.
Lol
Ive met Glen three times, first time at a friends record store, hung out with him and his band for 5 hours, hes one cool guy,he just doesnt like stupid, who can blame him.
And what about the other two? Where did it happen?
rafael martingo pereira de sousa this guy is full of shit
"he just doesn't like stupid"Then why did he hang out with you?
Slappy wow how funny. Especially coming from a guy with a name like yours. You’d get bitch slapped for that in real life.
I met him 3 times always cool as well . Just do be a fn douche and he’s cool
Glad to see Glenn drop the "tough-guy" act for this. It makes him much more likeable. We need more legends like him to be down to Earth and keep providing guidance for younger bands.
It's cool that he gives props to the Dolls and the Velvets as inspirational acts (and admits that Lou Reed probably wouldn't have remembered meeting him). A humble and soft-spoken guy, after all!
Man if he hates Journey, I'd love to seem him talk about today's music.
I doubt he pays attention to it
Hes getting old his heart wouldnt be able to take that kind of a shock
journey is way fucking worse than the music today fucking disgusting musoc
strange jew no
strange jew definitely not
Ok guys, i love The Misfits and Danzig, but doesn't Glenn look like Sigourney Weaver in "Alien: resurrection" ?
Haha you sir nailed it!!
I'm just glad i'm not the only one who thinks this.José Luis Enríquez
+Tyler hella I thought the same thing! haha
+Tyler hella Jesus. The man looks 100% like Sigourney Weaver. He's still a god though.
+Tyler hella OH MY GOD!!
Love the Misfits.. But Danzig's first 2 solo albums are A+
All his bands are great
+Wytchfinde Let It Be Captured will always be my favorite Danzig song. His vocals at the end are incredible.
absolutely agree
Just the first two? How the Gods kill is fucking epic, and then 4 slays. 5 and on though...👎
The first 3. Before he fired Christ, Von, & Biscuits, and, when his records were produced by Rick Rubin.
I caught his glove in the pit at a California concert . The glove is complete with the skull. He signed it a few years later at Tower Records in Hollywood. Framed and displaying the memory. Lots of blood in the pit that eve! Danzig is the shit!!
The glove must smell of Danzig's cigarettes and sweat. DISGUSTING.
Must be very precious/ special to you
"Thousands of years ago, before Sigourney Weaver..."
This is the first time I've seen him not disgruntled or pissed off
+Nero Cyanide Old Age catches up to everyone eventually.
+Nero Cyanide He's reaching the same age as the MOTHAAAA and FATHAAAAAA he was talking about in 1988.
I was thinking the samething lol
+Luv Piggehs Wow, I guess I should just conform to whatever Danzig wants then. Don't worry about my own opinion if it pisses Danzig off right? Fuck that shit!
+meagainok you missed the point.
I don't get why people are so hung up on him being an ass. He's his own person, he speaks his mind , no filter, he has a personality. I like it. Better than being like everyone else and having the same ideas as everyone else.
It's not really that, that is the issue... It's his history of being a Dbag rockstar attitude type. something that isn't shinning through in this interview. maybe he's calmed down in his old age
But i think he's allowed to be a hardass he's been there from the beginning and is still around making amazing sounds so.. let him be a diva
That's punk.
neez nuts r punk
What statements exactly are you talking about that made him a "Dbag"?
I met Glen after a Danzig show and he was very nice and soft spoken , when I met him I said ( you are the shit bro ) and he says (you wanted me to write it out to who ?) and then I repeated myself and he started laughing
Danzig needs a star on the walk of Fame and a wall full of Grammys. I got all his albums and are pretty much the only CDs I'll listen to front to back without skipping over tracks. This guy is truly a master of his art.
Fuck yeah totally
This may be the first interview I've seen where he smiles genuinely. What a legend
Jeez! He finally opened up for an interview and relaxed!
Gabe Dieter I think he did relax in an interview on Headbanger's Ball back in the early 90's and just joked around with the interviewer. I wish he would do it more and have fun in interviews.
mark kevorkian I don't think so, I remember him just talking about the newest Danzig album, the early days of Misfits and any future plans for a new solo album at the time. They also joked about the dark imagery and the religious people that bashed him for the messages in the music, or what they thought the message was.
Exactly
+Gabe Dieter he did an interview on Jason Ellis a couple of months ago.
+Gabe Dieter yea i heard he's bat shit crazy... but he seemed pretty down to earth in that interview
I like Danzig. Always have. Only celebrity i have ever met. Back in 94 in Tempe at Zia. Good times
Misfits are one of the few bands that I discovered in childhood that I am still in love with today. It must be over 30 years since I first heard them.
He looks good for 60
I think Glenn's the real deal. He's first and foremost an artist and believes that music must convey authenticity and sincerity. This puts him aeons ahead of most bands and musicians whose sole motive is attention, fame, money-and NOT artistic expression. Glenn rightly pointed out that we've been spoon-fed a steady diet of blandness and mediocrity- that we've falsely been led to believe is good music. In truth, most of what passes as "good" pop music is in fact dull, unoriginal and commonplace. Glenn gave us something much more powerful, fresh and original. No wonder he encountered so much rejection. Sadly, most folks want safe and predictable. Frank Zappa famously said "Without deviation from the norm, progress is impossible." You can't have authenticity, originality, power and integrity if you're sole intent is fame and glory and your music is an afterthought.
Malcolm Nicoll The Misfits would have been singed to label for their first LP (Static Age) had they toned it down and went with a more "studio friendly" sound. I'm glad they didn't. Even after Glenn's old stuff has been deemed classic, I admire that he's never taken the safe route and fallen back on any particular era.
+Malcolm Nicoll zappa quote im in man.
+Eloel
To quote Glenn's fellow musician/friend Henry Rollins:
“I wonder if it ever occurred to people that the reason the music of these interesting and alternative bands is being recruited [for advertisements] is because their fans are now the ones calling the shots. In other words, we have arrived. Of course the ad is trying to sell you something, and to gain your confidence by exploiting the band’s integrity for a commercial end. So what? You’re not a fucking moron, are you? You see through that, don’t you? What would you rather hear? Iggy and the Teddy Bears doing ‘I’m a Punk Rocker’ in a car ad, or enduring some generic background music? Do you have any idea what some of these bands went through to make that music? The fact that there might be some money for them all these years later is great. You think that paycheck is in anyway a slight to their integrity? Are you fucking kidding me? Pay them. Pay them double. Pay them now. It’s about fucking time!”
+Malcolm Nicoll Glenn's messages are always so weak. He is first and foremost a very shallow and self centered moron with a huge ego. Was his band original? Sort of. Was it good...? That is debatable. Is there any meaningful depth beyond a bone head trying to act "cool?" Depends who ya ask.
Oh yeah? Who asked for your opinion anyway?
He is so we'll spoken. I'm glad he didn't stop at the Misfits because he has a beautiful singing voice.
You music definitely lasts Glenn because I'm 21 and just started listening to the misfits a few years ago and it's my favorite band, definitely timeless music
I love reading shit like tbis! Glad you are listening! Read searcg discover. Watch. Eat up anything you can!
The songs she, angelfuck, where eagles dare. So many more. Doyle has a couple instructional vids on youtube that are awesome
@@checkyourhead9 The Doorway really shows the power in his voice at such a young age glad you dig the misfits my favorite punk band of all time.
8 years ago I worked in a pizza kitchen and jammed misfits every morning. Front to back static age. People who didn't even like punk loved it. It's timeless like you said.
I loved his appearance in aqua teen hunger force.
You tell that fucking robot to make with the fucking blood or I'll be eating my cereal out of your skull.
And he never wears a shirt
Lamb-Slayer
WHAT EPISODE

Thx man
"I'm Danzig motherf&^ker"
This isn`t quite what I expected of Danzig to be honest. He`s actually a very softly spoken guy during this interview. Comes across as a genuine person. Thanks uploader :)
Yeah he must have mellowed with age,he wasn’t always like this
I met him, he’s a genuinely nice guy.
Nej, sluta ljug.
I have actually had the pleasure of meeting him more than once he was always this polite of a person and enjoyable
Man Glenn is the best , wish this was a 20 min interview could listen to him go on all day about music and his 3 bands
I really liked how mellow an real glenn was here. Now he's always been real but I have a lot more respect for him after hearing him talk about his early influences like that and what he aims to do by playing for fans. He deserves every bit of success that's come his way and has given the music community some legendary music that won't soon be forgotten. Great interview
I think Glen Danzig has been through a great deal and seen it all over the years. He’s matured into a much calmer, patient and respectful person with age, much like others in his field who’ve been lucky enough to survive. I realize after all these years that his east coast attitude and front man persona were much of the reason for the reputation that followed him around for so long.
Much love to him and his art 🤟❤️
Love to see him smile like this. A true legend regardless of what people think about him.
One of the most real people of all time , his last words epic
I always thought he looked like Sigourney Weaver's little brother
holy shit your so right. ha ha.
Hahaha i'm dying over here
cannot be unseen
lmfaoooooo!!!
hahahahahahha man, you're right!!
Thank you for The Misfits which was part of my childhood. Thank you for your all music that is part of my life.
Met him when i was 16 at a comic book convention of all places. He was very nice.
Been listening to Glenn Danzig's music for over 20 years now. And I still listen to it everyday. And I will continue to listen to it.
Glenn is the definition of a music icon. What a legend he is
Thanks GD for all the music and great shows . Legend!
Saw the OG Misfits last year In Newark, Jersey & Denver , Co. best shows ever!
The man was probably the one singer out of the whole punk scene who actually sang. That’s when after he was done with Samhain, he transitioned into metal with Danzig. Kudos to punk and hardcore don’t get me wrong love all that stuff. But it’s amazing how one person from a raw musical scene thanks to his vocals helped him get up there even more. Props to you Glenn!
There should be a documentary about this guy! Pre Misfits to Samhain and Danzig.
There are, in Portuguese tho . . .
Unreal voice and talented songwriter. Still coming back to your songs from the 70s!
1:55 - And we're still coming back to it Glenn, we definitely are.
Been on another Misfits binge the last few weeks. I can't get enough, the music is timeless. Can't wait to play it for my kids, along with The Doors, Young Thug, and Madlib.
He's chilled out a lot i his age. Great to see. One of the greatest musician of the 20th century.
Greatest musicians? If you like the guy, that's fine, but how's he qualify for that?
Moron
Glenn is a talented and intelligent guy. People who deride him don't know him or understand him.
40 years later and I’m still listening to it. Mission accomplished
Glen. You and the Misfits are still very relevant in 2020. My band covers songs from Walk Among Us as well as other singles. Thank you for writing these songs.
It's sad to see the footage of the Riot Fest Misfits set in Denver because the crowd is too worried about getting video on their phones than the experience of seeing such an Iconic band. Those people should be going nuts and tearing that place down. Sign of the times.
I was there, lots of energy although the cell phone thing was a sad distraction
That shit is so sad. It shows that they are more thrilled with the idea of being able to say that they saw the misfits live than actually seeing them live. I went to see rush when I was in high school and I did that with a camera, I realized how stupid I was the second they stopped playing.
meh. if you could ignore the b.s., you could enjoy the show. it was amazing... and i still remember danzing being all like "we still have 8 minutes left". still not sure if he was happy or not happy about that,... but who gives a fuck. the music was.... it was fucking incendiary... in the best possible way (at least in my corner of the crowd).
Chicago was crazy. I was right in front. Now I have now pictures of the show but instead imprinted memories I will never forget.
Mr. Moon... ? Did I miss something ? What are you talking about his comment is dead on and normal people? !? Is that what you call cell phones at a concert?
Met him after a show in Knoxville,TN in 1994. He was a chill dude to put up with me and my buddy for a few minutes. Korn and Marilyn Manson opened up for him. Great show!
People most definitely came back to the misfits over the years ❤️ he must be so proud
This was a really great interview packed into 4 mins
Glen Still looks good.
Hes in amazing shape.
Such a sweet, amazing babe of a man! Thank you for all that you do Glenn Danzig!!
Why a chill Glenn Danzig interview. I always thought thought he was a knucklehead w a chip on his shoulder. Nice to see him chillin and smiling, having a good time. Very down to earth.
Seems like he’s chilled out a whole lot and actually smiled a bit. I’m glad to see him happy.
Such a massive talent.
He was a cool guy to meet. His bands were a huge influence on me, still are to some extent
We've surely been coming back to your music! Wow!
I got to see him and the bros in Chicago this yr on my bday for the original misfits tours. And as happy as I was for opportunity see them, I'm also sooo sad to think I may never again. Please do one more year!
One of my biggest music influences. Wouldn’t have picked up the guitar and vocals if it wasn’t for Danzig and Hendrix!
Misfits, one of the greatest punk bands ever!
I just listened to Danzig first album and it sounded so DOPE to hear it again after over 25 years
Idk why this video pops up on my youtube constantly, but every time it does, all i can think of is my old buddy Jimbo, and how, the very day this video came out on UA-cam, i had watched it right away, and then right after i went out to eat with Jimbo in the afternoon at some Chinese restauraunt, where we got into a huuuuge convo about Danzig and Misfits due to the video. Sadly he passed on one year or so afterwards. I miss digging Misfits with Jimbo
I am a misfits fan for ever
One of the better interviews of Danzig
Many memories instilled within these walls, ty4e!
I hope you read this, GLENN. Thank you, So Much. Your music soothed my soul for countless hours. Now my son and I rock out to it! 🥰🤘
I had no idea that the Misfits started out at CBGBs. That's so nostalgic.
This guys a genius and so under rated!
Papa Glenn! Love you man. Thank you for all your incredible work.
Saw him live, with the Misfits, best show ive seen in a while!!!!
Glen Danzig has always been a interesting cat..... he never really sold his soul to be more a mainstream star which you gotta respect
ANYBODY that hates journey is ok in my book
lol, same here
Wow, it's good seeing this side of Glenn. I've been a huge Misfits fan since 1985.
You made a great band. Thanks for that Danzig.
Ya know Glenn really is a good guy:) the ending touched my heart
I love, love, LOVE The New York Dolls! Found out about them in 1980, have loved them ever since. I even had the opportunity to see Johnny Thunders play live in small clubs, twice! RIP Johnny 💔
And believe ME, the songs he wrote were definitely memorable and something I come back to every time. Metal flows in my veins but punk rock beats in my heart.
Danzig is an interesting dude
One of the best concerts. Danzig kills it live.
Especially now, he used to not know how the mic pics up his voice but now he’s got it figured out better than a lot of big bands
I've never met Mr. Danzig but, from what I've read and listened to, I like him. He seems the genuine sort that tries his best and cares about people. That's the making of a pretty good person. Keep rocking, Mr. Danzig.
He wanted to be still listened to 30 years later. Here I am listening to him at 16, he definitely succeeded.
fuck yeah this guy is a living legend. Good stuff, this interview
Cool interview, his jacket is fucking awesome too.
fr
I can’t get enough of this
Say what you want to about Glen. I fucking love this guy.
Ol' Danzig... I saw him in Boston back in 93 I think it was at Axis. I was right up front and he was right in front of me, I was just watching him all blown away and shit.. I was on leave from the Army and I was like 23 or some shit like that. His boot was within reach and I reached out to touch it just to confirm Danzing's reality and I swear to God a wave of demonic power jolted down my arm and into my soul.. my "badass level" like TRIPLED ... true story, Danzing remembers that shit too.
I'm surprised the douchebag didn't kick you in the face.
Duke Nukem na, he understood..
he wasn't old back then.. his vitality level was real good.. in a few more decades hes going be like Darth Sidious
+Gloomshadow100 I have a ton of respect for what the guy has accomplished. I am a huge Misfits and Samhain fan, even enjoyed the first few Danzig albums, but he is a total douchebag though.
Duke Nukem I think people have been fucking with him for a long time.. made him mean, hes in a vicious cycle. "Roids" probably didn't help. I like him though.. he strikes me as the kinda guy that you gotta have something in common with to get along with him.. or you gotta be talking to him about something that he likes and knows a lot about. He strikes me one of those kinda guys. He is also probably one of those guys that if you don't like him hes a dick to you, if you are huge fan he tells you to get lost and if you are kinda indifferent but youre into the same shit has hes into then youre "ok".. that's the vibe I got.
Love Glenn Danzig, glad Rolling Stone did this!
+Jeremiah Ingram kind of ironic since rolling stone was also getting payola since the misfits days and have historically illogical and bad taste.
Just glad to see Glenn get some mainstream attention, he's a talented musician and deserves recognition for that. I don't care about Rollng Stone's politics or taste, for once I like someone they talked to.
Jeremiah Ingram I totally agree
Love misfits and Danzig. Made my 1st born in 93 to Danzig. Made me wanna ...
Good interview, nice to see him still up and going.
Legend.
cwis666 Bingo!
Simply amazed at how he came across in this interview, in a good way. I met him in 1987 on his tour bus at the Living Room in Providence, RI. Wicked cool guy then. Has seemed like a flaming bag of dicks since then. Nice turnaround. Outstanding musician who has written music that stands the test of time.
Robert Kleiner I bet that would make a great album cover.
+Robert Kleiner sounds like you let media shape your thoughts rather than think for yourself...
3:38 is, by far, the single most reason why music means so much to me.
That last statement from Glenn was awesome. " If it helps people to forget about what they're dealing with for an hour or two then that feels great it's nice" 👍👍👍
I so miss the old Wolverine sideburn chops...
The 1101 Experiment ah, that’s what was missing
Me too...
