I read all of them :) this is so cool that Journey to the West is what inspired sooo much of what we have today, like Dragon Ball and Naruto (for example). And just to be clear, I don’t really consider myself a Dragon Ball fan (PLEASE DONT HATE ME). It’s not that I don’t like it, I actually think it’s awesome, but I never really got into it. I just know a handful of the characters and that’s it lol. Same goes for Naruto. I felt like I needed to clear that up because there’s a good amount of people in here who are wondering how I don’t know Journey to the West if I’m a Dragon Ball fan. Well, I’m not. Lol. Chinese mythology is a very complex system. I can explain the basic concept of the chinese mythology. First the structure of chinese pantheon. Chinese traditional mythology is called Daoism. But after Buddhism come to China, it got absorbed by Chinese pantheon. The supreme god king governing heaven in daoism is jade emperor. But the one who created the universe was the ancient titan pangu. Pangu died from exhaustion soon after he creates the universe. The jade emperor and three pure one control most of the universe after him. They assigned king Yama to govern the underworld. Four great dragon kings to govern the sea. But they all pledge loyalty to jade emperor. Great goddess Nuwa creates humanity after the creation of the world. Buddha is technically the most powerful entity after the death of pangu. Because Buddhism believe he is one with universe. Therefore both Buddhism god and daoism god show respect to each other, and often work together. Second is the power structure of chinese mythology. The biggest difference between Chinese mythology and western mythology. Is the fact that in Chinese mythology, mortal can become god by practicing daoism or Buddhism. Which many western mythology can’t. This gives people more hope and give them reason to study daoism and Buddhism. However this freedom also give birth to demon(youkai). In chinese the concept of demon is not the same as west. Chinese demon were once mortal creatures who practiced daoism or Buddhism. They use the power in evil way and because corrupted. This goes for animal too. Both human and animals have possibilities of becoming demon. That’s why in journey of west there are tiger demon or fish demon. Due to the fact all youkai Practice daoism or Buddhism. In chinese mythology demon are considered very intelligent beings. Also most demon aim to become god, because in chinese mythology gods are the final stage of evolution. Now we can talk about monkey king wukong and journey of the west. Monkey king is the hero in chinese mythology. He’s just like Thor in Norse mythology or Hercules in Greek. Monkey king was loved by chinese people. But monkey king wasn’t a righteous figure when he first appeared. Monkey king was a stone monkey who came from the magical stone of goddess nuwa. He was a trickster and a morally neutral existence. He soon became the king of monkeys and learn daoism under a great daoist saint. During the process he learn immortality and become so powerful that almost no god can beat him. After he gain such strength, he went to the dragon king palace and acquired weapons and armor. Went to underworld and delete his name from book of death. He soon make alliance with demon kings in the mortal realm. Making him one of the greatest demon king in existence. When jade emperor discovered this, he give wukong a job in heaven. Which wukong gladly accept. But jade emperor still didn’t quite understand how strong wukong is. So he give him a position as stable boy for taming heavenly horses. Wukong feels extremely humiliated. So he quit the job and give him self the title of great sage equal to heaven in revenge. Heaven sees wukong’s refusal of the job as an insult. But after long discussion, they give wukong the title of great sage equal to heaven and invite him once more to live in heaven. As guardian of immortal peach garden. But monkey screw up his job again, because he end up eating all the peaches and even steal some pills of immortality. That finally angered the jade emperor. He dispatched the entire army of Heaven to arrest wukong. Monkey king was unrivaled in power even for gods. Only the great warrior god Erlang could fight him in equal strength. They eventually did capture the monkey through trap, but can’t find any way to kill him. Because he’s so bloody immortal, nothing can hurt him. He eventually break loss again and causing even greater havoc in heaven. Jade emperor finally calls the buddha himself to fix the problems. Buddha being the strongest beings in existence, easily subdue wukong, and trap him under a magical mountain. 500 years later Buddha send a chinese monk name Xiang Zang to retrieve the holy scripture from India. He choose wukong as one of monks body guards. Finally wukong was freed from the prison. But this time he humbly protect the monk in his journey to the west. During the process he starts to respect the monk. Also becoming a more humble and righteous person. He eventually was reworded by the Buddha and become a Buddha himself
worth mentioning that in the second paragraph, the term youkai is modern Japanese pronunciation system, whereas the modern mandarin version is 妖怪 yaoguai
also, worth mentioning, the strength of Wukong is over-exaggerated, which is hard to believe as even most of Chinese people believe in his strength, yet in the original fiction, Wukong was powerful indeed, yet didn’t even make his way through the front gate of the heaven palace before being captured. The publicly known overpowered Wukong is created by the epic episodes of The Journey To the West in the recent decades, which I believe the game will follow the version instead of the original.

For these that doesn't know, the writer from dragon ball was inspired by the book journey to the west (written in 16th century) Sun wun kong (which is the real name of son goku), has the ability which is with his own fur he makes clones of himself. Some of the Naruto story was also inspired by the book
Sun Wukong (孫悟空) (pinyin: sūnwùkōng) is the name given to this character by his teacher, Subhuti, the latter part of which means "Awakened to Emptiness" (in the Waley translation, Aware-of-Vacuity); he is called Monkey King. He is born on Flower Fruit Mountain from a stone egg that forms from an ancient rock created by the coupling of Heaven and Earth. He first distinguishes himself by bravely entering the Water Curtain Cave on the mountain; for this feat, his monkey tribe gives him the title of "Handsome Monkey King". After seeing a fellow monkey die because of old age, he decides to travel around the world to seek the Tao, and find a way to be able to live forever. He eventually found the " Grand Master of Bodhi (菩提祖师）", who taught him the 72 methods of transformation, "sumersault cloud", and thus got his supernatural abilities. After angering several gods and coming to the attention of the Jade Emperor, he is given a minor position in heaven as the Keeper of Horses (弼马温) so they can keep an eye on him. Upon returning to his mountain, he puts up a flag and declares himself the "Great Sage Equal to Heaven". Then the Jade Emperor dispatches celestial soldiers to arrest Sun Wukong, but no one succeeds. The Jade Emperor has no choice but to appoint him to be the guardian of the heavenly peach garden. The peach trees in the garden bear fruit every 3,000 years, and eating its flesh will bestow immortality, so Sun Wukong eats nearly all of the ripe peaches. Later, after fairies who come to collect peaches for Xi Wangmu's heavenly peach banquet inform Sun Wukong he is not invited and make fun of him, he starts causing trouble in Heaven and defeats an army of 100,000 celestial troops, led by the Four Heavenly Kings, Erlang Shen, and Nezha. Eventually, the Jade Emperor appeals to the Buddha, who seals Wukong under a mountain called Five Elements Mountain. Sun Wukong is kept under the mountain for 500 years, and cannot escape because of a seal that was placed on the mountain. He is later set free when Tang Sanzang comes upon him during his pilgrimage and accepts him as a disciple.

The legend of Monkey King has him riding on a cloud named Nimbus in English and his magical staff that can be summoned from the heavens and be as small as a toothpick or large enough to poke the gods in their butts from standing on Earth.
This is the OG Chinese story that inspired/influenced other East Asian cultures, notably Japan. That's why some of the creatures and visuals look original.
You guys feel some Sekiro vibe, no strange because of the building styles, the temple, the ringing bell-----buddhism elements everywhere in both games. The spreading of Chinese Buddhism has influenced Japanese culture greatly since Tang Dynasty, 1400 years ago. No doubt Sekiro is a great game, and of course Sekiro vibe is a good word. However, it sounds a lil bit pathetic to Chinese gamers. Chinese historic culture is so deep and long and rich, but we never created even a single game to make the world know about such culture. As a comparison, Japan does this job so well. Sekiro, Ghost of Tsushima, etc., so many great games showing Japanese culture to the world. And that's why Black Myth: Wukong made so many Chinese people crazy. We have been expecting it so long.
Forwarded message: spoiler alert an over-simplified explain here: This game is a re-creation of "journey to the west", and in ancient china myth world which WUKONG lives in, humans can get supernature power to become a "god/神仙". Practicing Buddhism or Taoism is a way of becoming "god". Animals can also receive supernature power, and they become "monster/demon/妖怪", not "god". Here, monster/demon is not always evil, they are just different from humans. In many stories, the monster can live with humans or even have a marriage with a human. in those stories, humans are often more evil or stupid or greedy or coward... The rank or class of this world is roughly like this: god > monster > human > animal. This rank is a metaphor of ancient china society, but not enough room to explain it here, knowing the rank is ok. So monsters want to live in the form of a human, or at least act like a human because they are in the hope of becoming a "god". WUKONG is a monkey born from a stone who finally become a "god", he is not a "pure" god(human -> god), he remains some monster/demon characteristics. This contradiction is the source of many re-creations including this game. Back to this trailer: This trailer shows a monk tells a story that happens in a temple relic occupied by a group of monster gangsters. The giant wolf boss at 7:38 is their leader, he identifies himself as a Taoism priest, and get a Taoism name "灵虚子" or "灵虚真人" he has a friend who is a black bear. but not shown in this game. the minor boss at 2:53 is also a wolf. check his feet, you can see that he is a wolf wearing human cloth, not a human with a wolf head. the little potato-like guy at 4:49 is "土地公/local earth god", a kind of minor god. like a nymph in Greek myth, but not that pretty. you guys may be confused why there is another monkey king with better weapon and better armor stop us from finishing the boss. and spend several seconds showing shining gold characters on his stick. We Chinese guys are quite excited seeing this scene because it gets to the most suspenseful part of the story: whether the monkey king who finally becomes the god is the real monkey king who born from the stone? (Is the hero at the end of the journey the same person when he starts the journey?) (are we still us when we grow up/old ?) yes, there are multiple monkey kings and multiple explanations. you can even take them as the "ego", the "id", the "superego" of the monkey king. but it is best to let the game itself to explain it. if you look carefully enough, you will find that the storyteller(at the beginning and end of the trailer) himself is an old "monkey" too. the floating belt behind him indicating that he is a "god".

The purpose of releasing this promoting video that looks like a real "game trailer" is to attract talented game techs to join the project. Obviously, it has achieved more than they expected. Since developing a 3A title is super risky. Not to mention most markets have shifted to mobile games. Especially in China where no one has done a well-known 3A title game. The CEO Ji Feng decided they have to build a playable chapter. They have to show what they have achieved to the investors and potential developers. Game science is a small team that only has 30-40 employees. According to Ji Feng, their aim to hire a bigger team of a minimum of 80. The leading game designers used to work under Tencent. You can check their earlier work "Asura" in Tencent which has the same theme of "Journey to the west". From this trailer, the team has shown they're passionate, they have ambition. There's a follow-up declaration from the CEO Ji Feng. He was humble and even criticized the flaws in the video and he said thank you all for the hype and the attention but the team will remain silent and focus on developing this game. Let's hope for the best.
yes, but do not try to read the original book, because even Chinese may not understand it totally, since it was written several hundred years before using the very old Chinese language system. Try to find new version of that book, which is translated to simple Chinese language, or if you can find English version?
@arnold jayeola actually he's the weakest of the stine monkey's. His twin the Six Eared Macaque is equal to his strength. I believe that are playing as Six Ears in this game.

@Rex Stu I think WuKong means more than that. Kratos is all about rage and vengeance while WuKong is about freedom, harmony, care (about his family and companions) and hope. They're both strong, but went completely different path

Victory Fighting Buddha is more of a self battling victory in which he changed himself so much from who he was (ironically, some people included me feel sad that he changed that much, because his previous lively self was more likable 😟) than a Victory against actual enemies
@Rex Stu the ancient Chinese Mythology is an endless goldmine, should they harvest them correctly, but all I've seen all these years are shallow cash grap, rarely do I see any original or deep emotional story or flip side story like Ne Zha or Journey to the West Conquering Demons on big screen. Contract with the Chinese light novel, which I'm really passionate about. Even some successful novel and television came up shallow, like the Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms serie. If they'd put just a little bit more passion to it, those would've been legendary 😟

to some who don't know, Son WuKong is a character from a Chinese myth novel 400 years ago called Journey to the West. In the myth, some of his powers include riding clouds, transforming (72 forms), that magical staff he wields can lengthen and shorten, he also hides it in his ears when it's tiny. When he tears off strands of his hair, each strand can turn into a clone of himself. Oh, and let's not forget he can freeze people with words. that's all i remember for the moment. but he's pretty dope.

If you really wanna enjoy the game you should watch journey to the west 1 and 2. And monkey king 1,2 and 3. They’re both good adaptations of the wu-Kong myth. Not to mention fun to watch. There’s a couple other movies about him, but those are the main ones.

As soon as I saw the Chinese characters lit up on the staff, I tried to say its name one syllable at the time : Ru... Yi... Jin... Gu... Bang. => And it fits !
Actually the game demo already sorta displays the game battle system. From the game's bottom left section, you will see 4 skill slots. Skills after used will become red indicating cooldown time Top skill when pressed = armored mode which sorta deflect or blocks any incoming attacks Right skill when pressed = Goes into cicada aka stealth mode. will sorta be disabled during boss fights left skill when pressed = Will freeze the enemy in front of you down skill when pressed = summons the monkey gang as seen during the boss fight So i guess you will sorta learn skills along the way then decide which skill to assign to which slot. If you also noticed the bottom right section you will see the ape character and icon so i guess it's sorta his special skill to transform into that giant ape after the super meter is filled. After you defeated the 1st mini boss wolf and get his weapon, you see another slot opening up which is the wolf character and icon which during the later boss fights he switches from the ape to the wolf icon and using the transformation into the miniboss earlier on. So my guess is maybe later you can just go hunt for special minibosses for their weapons and able to transform into various beast forms other than the ape and the wolf shown in the demo.
Sun WuKong is one of the greatest characters and deities in mythology, the world outside of Asia had NOOOO idea how powerful this guy is and he's a huuuge deal. He's like the thor or hercules of china but even more as far as his abilities go.

That's Sun Wukong (Monkey King) of the Chinese mythologies, and the basis of which many well-known Japanese animated protagonists abilities derive from. (God/Demon) Goku is basically a very entertaining breakaway from this guy. There have been plenty of Chinese films and tv series' based off of him. I'm a huge fan of this character, and when I first saw this exact preview 2 wks ago-ish, I was ecstatic AND STILL AM! Can't wait. The last film related to him that I had seen was in "The Immortal Demon Slayer/Tales of Sun Wukong". Still have yet to find time to watch the 2018 movie, but it's on my watch later list.

Ok so, The Monkey King escorted the Monk to India to receive the holy scriptures of Buddha along with some other notable friends. Tale is upon returning, they all received Buddhahood. However, in this retelling Black Myth, there was the line that perhaps the real Monkey King died along the way and another took his place to receive Buddhahood. This comes from where Sun Wukong meets the Six Eared Macaque, who looks exactly like Wukong and has all the same abilities. Almost no one can tell the two apart. At one point in the novel the two fight to the death before continuing on the journey. This suggests that the doubt cast in the beginning of this trailer is that the story is complex. Was that the real Sun Wukong and we’re playing as the Six Eared Macaque? Or was Sun Wukong really defeated in that battle and Buddhahood was taken by Six Eared Macaque so now we’re playing as Wukong, perhaps recovering his power and/or his memories?
My theorie for the story: The monk said that "The real monkey king died before they reached the West" Maybe there was a really big fight, Sun Wukong actually lost. He did not die, but he was Not able to continue the journey. So he made a copy of himself. This copy finished the journy to and back from the budda monestary and achieved godhood/ the titel of Budda. Now the original is back in buisness, but the copy does not want to share the titel and the Power.

The Chinese, on the other hand, have less satisfying performance. This is definitely one great opportunity that the Chinese can represent their own culture internationally. The ending music is also a great piece and has important historical meanings. It is a remixed version of the theme music of the TV series Journey to The West released in 1986. It has great influence in the eastern and southern Asia, but was not so widely known worldwide. The original version of the music was essentially the first piece of Chinese electronic music. Overall, the introduction of this history and the culture in it itself is like a journey to the west. There are so many obstacles on the way to be conquered, and so many people have failed on the way. But some people with the faith in their heart will eventually make this great achievement.

worth mentioning, the strength of Wukong is over-exaggerated, which is hard to believe as even most of Chinese people believe in his strength, yet in the original fiction, Wukong was powerful indeed, yet didn’t even make his way through the front gate of the heaven palace before being captured by. The publicly known overpowered version of Wukong was created by the epic Tv program episodes of The Journey To the West in the recent decades, which I believe the game will follow this version instead of the original.
To be fair the over-powered version is far more entertaining in general and would make a far better game to build up to that power during... so I think you are right they are clearly going for the whole "equal of heaven" version.

AFter beating the wolf, the "new" monkey-ninja in the fancy outfit that blocked the death blow is the real Wukong. The other was an impostor. The real guy has a staff with magic words on it.
The monk intro is wukong himself impersonating his master who is a monk too. Telling back his story as 3rd person of how he travel back in time using Pandora box or something (one of their gigs) trying to amend things right to his younger version....that's my thought of this story plot.
No, the plot involves the six eared macaque - the 六耳獼猴, who impersonates Sun Wukong to the point where Wukong cannot beat him, although the macaque cannot beat Wukong as well. In the Journey to the West, the story goes that the macaque impersonates Wukong so well that no one can tell who's real and who's fake. Only Guanyin was able to trap the fake Wukong. You can tell that the monkey who starts off fighting in the trailer is the macaque (the fake Wukong), as the real Wukong comes in to stop him from executing the giant wolf boss (evident by the golden Ruyijingubang, the gold pole) and his armor. The story also should take place after Sanzang (Wukong's master) drives Wukong out after Wukong kills the white bone demon. There is no time travel in Journey to the west.
This is based on the chinese mythical story of Journey to to West. Sun Wukong (aka Son Goku in japanese) is a monkey demon that ascended to buddhahood after assisting Tangzeng's journey to the west to obtain ancient buddha scriptures. Along the way, they run into many challenges because there's many demons that obtained a higher form (eg. A snake becomes a humanoid demon snake form) and are looking to ascend to a even higher form by eating Tangzeng (the chosen monk). It is said, his flesh will give one unimaginable strength, so demons saw him as a prize. Anyways, the stories has 2 more disciple, 3 including wukong. They all committed some type taboo/crime in heaven or against heaven and it laws, and this journey was for redemption, and to test if their hearts to see if theyve truly repent.
Btw, wukong has trained with the saints while he was young, hes considered a prodigy because he can do 72 transformations, and he can make crazy things happen by blowing pieces of his fur. He was also born out of a boulder, this boulder was said to consume the life force of the nature over millenias and finally one day, this crazy fucker exploded and that birth him. Dude has an ego and challenged the heavens, where he wrecked havoc. The great buddha punished him by having him under a mountain where he is constrained for hundreds of year, until he waits for Tangzeng to get him out, and have him accompany him on this journey as a disciple and guardian.

Chinese mythology is a very complex system. I can explain the basic concept of the chinese mythology.
First the structure of chinese pantheon. Chinese traditional mythology is called Daoism. But after Buddhism come to China, it got absorbed by Chinese pantheon. The supreme god king governing heaven in daoism is jade emperor. But the one who created the universe was the ancient titan pangu. Pangu died from exhaustion soon after he creates the universe. The jade emperor and three pure one control most of the universe after him. They assigned king Yama to govern the underworld. Four great dragon kings to govern the sea. But they all pledge loyalty to jade emperor. Great goddess Nuwa creates humanity after the creation of the world. Buddha is technically the most powerful entity after the death of pangu. Because Buddhism believe he is one with universe. Therefore both Buddhism god and daoism god show respect to each other, and often work together.
Second is the power structure of chinese mythology. The biggest difference between Chinese mythology and western mythology. Is the fact that in Chinese mythology, mortal can become god by practicing daoism or Buddhism. Which many western mythology can’t. This gives people more hope and give them reason to study daoism and Buddhism. However this freedom also give birth to demon(youkai). In chinese the concept of demon is not the same as west. Chinese demon were once mortal creatures who practiced daoism or Buddhism. They use the power in evil way and because corrupted. This goes for animal too. Both human and animals have possibilities of becoming demon. That’s why in journey of west there are tiger demon or fish demon. Due to the fact all youkai Practice daoism or Buddhism. In chinese mythology demon are considered very intelligent beings. Also most demon aim to become god, because in chinese mythology gods are the final stage of evolution.
Now we can talk about monkey king wukong and journey of the west. Monkey king is the hero in chinese mythology. He’s just like Thor in Norse mythology or Hercules in Greek. Monkey king was loved by chinese people. But monkey king wasn’t a righteous figure when he first appeared. Monkey king was a stone monkey who came from the magical stone of goddess nuwa. He was a trickster and a morally neutral existence. He soon became the king of monkeys and learn daoism under a great daoist saint. During the process he learn immortality and become so powerful that almost no god can beat him. After he gain such strength, he went to the dragon king palace and acquired weapons and armor. Went to underworld and delete his name from book of death. He soon make alliance with demon kings in the mortal realm. Making him one of the greatest demon king in existence. When jade emperor discovered this, he give wukong a job in heaven. Which wukong gladly accept. But jade emperor still didn’t quite understand how strong wukong is. So he give him a position as stable boy for taming heavenly horses. Wukong feels extremely humiliated. So he quit the job and give him self the title of great sage equal to heaven in revenge. Heaven sees wukong’s refusal of the job as an insult. But after long discussion, they give wukong the title of great sage equal to heaven and invite him once more to live in heaven. As guardian of immortal peach garden. But monkey screw up his job again, because he end up eating all the peaches and even steal some pills of immortality. That finally angered the jade emperor. He dispatched the entire army of Heaven to arrest wukong. Monkey king was unrivaled in power even for gods. Only the great warrior god Erlang could fight him in equal strength. They eventually did capture the monkey through trap, but can’t find any way to kill him. Because he’s so bloody immortal, nothing can hurt him. He eventually break loss again and causing even greater havoc in heaven. Jade emperor finally calls the buddha himself to fix the problems. Buddha being the strongest beings in existence, easily subdue wukong, and trap him under a magical mountain. 500 years later Buddha send a chinese monk name Xiang Zang to retrieve the holy scripture from India. He choose wukong as one of monks body guards. Finally wukong was freed from the prison. But this time he humbly protect the monk in his journey to the west. During the process he starts to respect the monk. Also becoming a more humble and righteous person. He eventually was reworded by the Buddha and become a Buddha himself

Later, after fairies who come to collect peaches for Xi Wangmu's heavenly peach banquet inform Sun Wukong he is not invited and make fun of him, he starts causing trouble in Heaven and defeats an army of 100,000 celestial troops, led by the Four Heavenly Kings, Erlang Shen, and Nezha. Eventually, the Jade Emperor appeals to the Buddha, who seals Wukong under a mountain called Five Elements Mountain. Sun Wukong is kept under the mountain for 500 years, and cannot escape because of a seal that was placed on the mountain. He is later set free when Tang Sanzang comes upon him during his pilgrimage and accepts him as a disciple.

This is the OG Chinese story that inspired/influenced other East Asian cultures, notably Japan. That's why some of the creatures and visuals look original.
You guys feel some Sekiro vibe, no strange because of the building styles, the temple, the ringing bell-----buddhism elements everywhere in both games. The spreading of Chinese Buddhism has influenced Japanese culture greatly since Tang Dynasty, 1400 years ago.
No doubt Sekiro is a great game, and of course Sekiro vibe is a good word. However, it sounds a lil bit pathetic to Chinese gamers. Chinese historic culture is so deep and long and rich, but we never created even a single game to make the world know about such culture. As a comparison, Japan does this job so well. Sekiro, Ghost of Tsushima, etc., so many great games showing Japanese culture to the world.
And that's why Black Myth: Wukong made so many Chinese people crazy. We have been expecting it so long.

Game science is a small team that only has 30-40 employees. According to Ji Feng, their aim to hire a bigger team of a minimum of 80. The leading game designers used to work under Tencent. You can check their earlier work "Asura" in Tencent which has the same theme of "Journey to the west". From this trailer, the team has shown they're passionate, they have ambition. There's a follow-up declaration from the CEO Ji Feng. He was humble and even criticized the flaws in the video and he said thank you all for the hype and the attention but the team will remain silent and focus on developing this game. @Rex Stu the ancient Chinese Mythology is an endless goldmine, should they harvest them correctly, but all I've seen all these years are shallow cash grap, rarely do I see any original or deep emotional story or flip side story like Ne Zha or Journey to the West Conquering Demons on big screen. Contract with the Chinese light novel, which I'm really passionate about. Even some successful novel and television came up shallow, like the Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms serie. If they'd put just a little bit more passion to it, those would've been legendary 😟

If you really wanna enjoy the game you should watch journey to the west 1 and 2. And monkey king 1,2 and 3. They’re both good adaptations of the wu-Kong myth. Not to mention fun to watch. There’s a couple other movies about him, but those are the main ones.

As soon as I saw the Chinese characters lit up on the staff, I tried to say its name one syllable at the time :
Ru... Yi... Jin... Gu... Bang.
=> And it fits !
Actually the game demo already sorta displays the game battle system.
From the game's bottom left section, you will see 4 skill slots. Skills after used will become red indicating cooldown time
Top skill when pressed = armored mode which sorta deflect or blocks any incoming attacks
Right skill when pressed = Goes into cicada aka stealth mode. will sorta be disabled during boss fights
left skill when pressed = Will freeze the enemy in front of you
down skill when pressed = summons the monkey gang as seen during the boss fight
So i guess you will sorta learn skills along the way then decide which skill to assign to which slot.
If you also noticed the bottom right section you will see the ape character and icon so i guess it's sorta his special skill to transform into that giant ape after the super meter is filled. After you defeated the 1st mini boss wolf and get his weapon, you see another slot opening up which is the wolf character and icon which during the later boss fights he switches from the ape to the wolf icon and using the transformation into the miniboss earlier on. So my guess is maybe later you can just go hunt for special minibosses for their weapons and able to transform into various beast forms other than the ape and the wolf shown in the demo.

Sun WuKong is one of the greatest characters and deities in mythology, the world outside of Asia had NOOOO idea how powerful this guy is and he's a huuuge deal. He's like the thor or hercules of china but even more as far as his abilities go.

For all the video game communities in the world, the observation for this game was made after several sharing on social networks: The wishlist for future games on Nextgen Ps5, PC and Xbox SX and other consoles has a few points to add to the 2020-21 games which are only negligible examples:
1 Texturize sewers, seabeds, rivers, and building interiors (the entire map with breakable parts) designed for use by all players in the game.
2 unlock weapons for all characters that we can choose with their own storymode and multiplayer sessions (heroes and villains) perhaps in the next episode of the game wukong2)
3 allow us to choose hero or villain in story mode and PvP sessions, online multiplayer co-op in crossplay .
5 Turn this world into an open world .
6 create online arenas sessions ,where we can fight like in soul calibur 5 in coop or 1 versus 1 player with training style we can unlock so we can finish the game with them to use theunlocked style of fighting in the storymode again to improve the characters skills
imagine if we can unlock them to play with them in a arena in the game when we finish the game the arena just popup in the game so we can go and PvP or coop inside of the arena in the game!!WAOW!! it will be awesome
According to the trailer and the "land god"s communication with that monkey I guess that we'll control the "Six Eared Macaque" which is one of 4 "God Monkeys" , they are brothers of Sun Wukong (Victorious Fighting Buddha).

That's Sun Wukong (Monkey King) of the Chinese mythologies, and the basis of which many well-known Japanese animated protagonists abilities derive from. (God/Demon) Goku is basically a very entertaining breakaway from this guy. There have been plenty of Chinese films and tv series' based off of him. I'm a huge fan of this character, and when I first saw this exact preview 2 wks ago-ish, I was ecstatic AND STILL AM! Can't wait. The last film related to him that I had seen was in "The Immortal Demon Slayer/Tales of Sun Wukong". Still have yet to find time to watch the 2018 movie, but it's on my watch later list.

In the original novel, especially in Chinese, the 72 kinds of transformation do not mean that he can become 72 kinds of creatures or become Things, and Wu Kong has 72 skills, and transformation is just one of these 72 skills. Just want to let you all know.
And Wu Kong, he is not just a monkey, he was not born naturally from monkey reproduction, he was conceived from a stone, and this stone is from another Chinese mythological character "Nu Wa". And The "Six-eared macaque" robbed Tang Seng and took their luggage.
Afterwards, Wu Kong fought a battle with the "Six-eared Macaque". Because of the same strength, it was impossible to tell the winner.
So they went to the gods to identify who is the real Monkey King.
But none of the gods can recognize who the real Monkey King is, because they have the same abilities and the same looks.
In the end, Buddha Tathagata recognized the "six-eared macaque", covered it with a golden bowl, and was beaten to death by Monkey King with a stick.
There has always been a lot of controversy in this place. Some people think that the Buddha who covered the golden bowl with the golden bowl was WuKong, not the "six-eared macaque", so the one who was killed may be WuKong.
Why is there controversy?
Because WuKong’s master is Taoism.
The mission of protecting the monk Tang from going to the west to learn the scriptures was Buddhism.

So many people think that the Buddha might take this opportunity to kill the real Monkey King(WuKong). Let the fake Monkey King "six-eared macaque" take over the position of Monkey King.

WuKong's weapon is called "如(Ru)意 (Yi)金(Jin)箍(Gu)棒(Bang)".

Ok so, The Monkey King escorted the Monk to India to receive the holy scriptures of Buddha along with some other notable friends. Tale is upon returning, they all received Buddhahood. However, in this retelling Black Myth, there was the line that perhaps the real Monkey King died along the way and another took his place to receive Buddhahood. This comes from where Sun Wukong meets the Six Eared Macaque, who looks exactly like Wukong and has all the same abilities. Almost no one can tell the two apart. At one point in the novel the two fight to the death before continuing on the journey. This suggests that the doubt cast in the beginning of this trailer is that the story is complex. Was that the real Sun Wukong and we’re playing as the Six Eared Macaque? Or was Sun Wukong really defeated in that battle and Buddhahood was taken by Six Eared Macaque so now we’re playing as Wukong, perhaps recovering his power and/or his memories?

Maybe there was a really big fight, Sun Wukong actually lost. He did not die, but he was Not able to continue the journey. So he made a copy of himself.
This copy finished the journy to and back from the budda monestary and achieved godhood/ the titel of Budda.
Now the original is back in buisness, but the copy does not want to share the titel and the Power.

One of wukong skill set is he has 72 transformation, he can pull his fur and turn into himself like shadow clone. and journey to the west is like greek mythology, where a lot of weird stuff.

What is worth mentioning is that the game is based on a Chinese novel Journey to The West written roughly in the late 16th century. The novel itself was a mythic version of the Tang Dynasty monk Xuan Zang’s journey to India seeking sacred Buddhist sutras, which took place during 627-645 A.D.
In the modern days, there are many Japanese products including games and anime that are based on this novel and have great influences across the world. The Chinese, on the other hand, have less satisfying performance. This is definitely one great opportunity that the Chinese can represent their own culture internationally.
The ending music is also a great piece and has important historical meanings. It is a remixed version of the theme music of the TV series Journey to The West released in 1986. It has great influence in the eastern and southern Asia, but was not so widely known worldwide. The original version of the music was essentially the first piece of Chinese electronic music.
Overall, the introduction of this history and the culture in it itself is like a journey to the west. There are so many obstacles on the way to be conquered, and so many people have failed on the way. But some people with the faith in their heart will eventually make this great achievement.

WuKong were the first to strike down and came to the earth near the “Monkey island” which the stone can manipulate by those monkey and change to its form to a monkey. And that’s how WuKong were created. In this game WuKong aka victorious Buddha showing Six Ear monkey his path how he fight till the celestial palace”God” getting a title before journey to the west. I believe we can play as wukong and 6Ear monkey in game. Can’t wait to get it!

worth mentioning, the strength of Wukong is over-exaggerated, which is hard to believe as even most of Chinese people believe in his strength, yet in the original fiction, Wukong was powerful indeed, yet didn’t even make his way through the front gate of the heaven palace before being captured by. The publicly known overpowered version of Wukong was created by the epic Tv program episodes of The Journey To the West in the recent decades, which I believe the game will follow this version instead of the original.
To be fair the over-powered version is far more entertaining in general and would make a far better game to build up to that power during... so I think you are right they are clearly going for the whole "equal of heaven" version.

The monk intro is wukong himself impersonating his master who is a monk too. Telling back his story as 3rd person of how he travel back in time using Pandora box or something (one of their gigs) trying to amend things right to his younger version....that's my thought of this story plot.
No, the plot involves the six eared macaque - the 六耳獼猴, who impersonates Sun Wukong to the point where Wukong cannot beat him, although the macaque cannot beat Wukong as well. In the Journey to the West, the story goes that the macaque impersonates Wukong so well that no one can tell who's real and who's fake. Only Guanyin was able to trap the fake Wukong.
You can tell that the monkey who starts off fighting in the trailer is the macaque (the fake Wukong), as the real Wukong comes in to stop him from executing the giant wolf boss (evident by the golden Ruyijingubang, the gold pole) and his armor. The story also should take place after Sanzang (Wukong's master) drives Wukong out after Wukong kills the white bone demon. There is no time travel in Journey to the west.

This is based on the chinese mythical story of Journey to to West.
Sun Wukong (aka Son Goku in japanese) is a monkey demon that ascended to buddhahood after assisting Tangzeng's journey to the west to obtain ancient buddha scriptures.
Along the way, they run into many challenges because there's many demons that obtained a higher form (eg. A snake becomes a humanoid demon snake form) and are looking to ascend to a even higher form by eating Tangzeng (the chosen monk). It is said, his flesh will give one unimaginable strength, so demons saw him as a prize.
Anyways, the stories has 2 more disciple, 3 including wukong. They all committed some type taboo/crime in heaven or against heaven and it laws, and this journey was for redemption, and to test if their hearts to see if theyve truly repent.
Btw, wukong has trained with the saints while he was young, hes considered a prodigy because he can do 72 transformations, and he can make crazy things happen by blowing pieces of his fur.
He was also born out of a boulder, this boulder was said to consume the life force of the nature over millenias and finally one day, this crazy fucker exploded and that birth him. Dude has an ego and challenged the heavens, where he wrecked havoc. The great buddha punished him by having him under a mountain where he is constrained for hundreds of year, until he waits for Tangzeng to get him out, and have him accompany him on this journey as a disciple and guardian.
If anyone is really into this mythos, theres very old 90's to 2000's TVB shows/dramas (tvb is an hong kong film company)
