    Good thing Beyerdynamic added the earpads with the round foam pad inside to the 900 Pro X. These made their debut in the TYGR 300R and tame the MURDEROUS Beyer treble/brightness/Sharp highs. Altought I think Tygrs 300R are more EQ and tuned for warmth and bass, I wonder if the 900 Pro X is something I can endure as I'm quite sensitive to sharp high frequencies and the DT 1990 pro were painful to listen while gaming. Well maybe Beyer will just update the Gaming lineup with these new Stellar.45 drivers down the line. Will have to look some dedicated TYGR 300R vs DT 900 Pro X reviews to consider if they would be an upgrade or sidegrade!

    • @mrdanky5545
      @mrdanky5545 3 роки тому +2

      I suggest adding an eq. The treble spike is still present, a bit muted compared to the 990s. With an eq the 900s are really amazing for the money.

    • @Raptor007
      @Raptor007 3 роки тому

      I'm also treble-sensitive and found that Beyer sharpness in the DT 770 unpleasant. In addition to just being too much treble, it can make some things sound artificial; this seemed very genre-dependent. Not sure if that's inherent to the Beyer sound or specifically the DT 770 Pro 80ohm.
      I recently splurged on the Monolith M1570 after a recommendation, and find they really suit my tastes with no EQ needed. They're warm and slightly mid-forward, but still very precise. Bass is clearly defined deep into the sub-bass, but it can benefit from a slight bass boost if you choose the fuzzy velour pads, which I find more comfortable than the leather (they include both). Might be worth a try if you're treble-sensitive and looking for something open back.

      @@Raptor007 Hello thanks. Those a re planars right? I wonder if they deliver in imaging and soundstage for FPS gaming. That is the weird thing, never seen a planar cut it and convince the pros or tryhard competitive fps gamers, yet. Always beaten by dynamic drivers. Only planar I have listened are Sundaras, real nice but not good for comp gaming.

    • @Raptor007
      @Raptor007 3 роки тому

      @@Frencho9 Yes, they're open-back planar. Music was my primary consideration, but I do game often too.
      My go-to game now is MWO which is not very sound dependent, so I just fired up R6 Siege and went back and forth between the M1570 and Denon AH-D2000 (my everyday cans for years) to compare. I found the planars better at sound separation and directional imaging, but I did find distance a little harder to judge. My guess is that it's because they are fully open, so my brain is trying to process both the game's spacial cues and the real echoes in my room. On the other hand, older games that just do a simple stereo pan sound better with the open back's wider soundstage.
      And wow, that sound quality... I'd previously put the AH-D2000 against the DT770 for music, and found the Beyer treble harsher and more artificial, giving me a fresh appreciation for my old Denons at the time. Now comparing them to planars reinforces how happy I am with the new purchase. I'm actually a little shocked how bad the Denons sound to me now, considering they beat the Beyers in my previous comparison.

Bass is slightly more in volume but due to the 900 pro having such linear bass this isnt a problem but the clarity is better and can judge distance even better than the velour pads which shocked me as on the tiger the imaging/distance was negatively affected.

    After trying the 900 X's for about a month, I went back to the 560s. I did not like how closed off they sounded for an "open-backed" headset. I also did not like the fit of them as well as the 560's. They are heavier and just did not fit my head shape as well. However, this time with the 560s I tried applying Oratory's EQ settings and they now sound perfect for my needs. With the EQ, they are no longer as flat and "boring". I am driving them with a Topping DX3 Pro+ and think I have finally found my end game setup for gaming and music. You get the openness and better detail/accuracy from the 560's, but the EQ adds enough dynamics that make it more enjoyable to listen to across different content (aka adds some "fun" factor). This was my first time messing with EQ and found it easier than I expected. You just need to install Equalizer APO, then Peace (which is just a UI over Equalizer APO). @@dukies0799 I felt 560S sound stage worked against them in my opinion. Imaging and directional accuracy were flawless but that is not everything. I was losing sound cues and footsteps (even your own) sound very far away in the 560S. I ended up using the spatial audio setting in the Steel Series software to bring the sound stage in and amplify footsteps and that was just about perfect. But I got greedy and moved on to other headsets... 560S are a great all arounder especially for the price and are not hard to drive. Comfort was a deal breaker too, the little earnotch in the cup kept resting on my right ear.

    Bought DT900 Pro X after watching all quest series. Combined with Sound Blaster AE-7. I was using a Philips X2HR and will compare to what I used to. Mostly PUBG related: Positional 360 degree accuracy is better than X2HR. For example, with X2HR you can hear that the enemy is between 30-40 degrees to your right, but with DT 900 Pro X it is like 33-37 degrees to your right. But, distancewise, it was surprise for me: X2HR is better. For example with X2HR I can say that the enemy is 40-50 m away from me, but with DT 900 Pro X it is like 30-60 m away. The distant sounds are higher with DT 900 Pro X, so maybe a less dynamic headphone thats why. The volume is also like 30% higher than X2HR with all parameters the same: so less power sensitive headphone. All what I written is totally subjective stuff as I am using AE-7 with surround enabled, which changes a lot in soundstage and imaging.

    I had a different experience with the 900 Pro X as far as imaging. I have the 1990's and I found that the imaging is more precise compared to the 900 Pro X's. With the 900 Pro X's, I found that imaging was good but found that there were gaps. Like you would hear footsteps in front of you then snap to your left or right, whereas with the 1990's it was a clear 360 transition. I've tried many headphones since my 58x's broke. From the 560, Tygr 300R, R70X, 1990, and 900 Pro X but IMO if your primary focus is imaging and you have the budget for it, the 1990's are the best. Keep in mind I play Valorant and CSGO. I have the 880 600 Ohm and just got the 900 Pro X to try. The 880 is not good for gaming imo. The sound signature with the treble spike is almost painful with gunshots, it doesn't have enough bass punch to give those "tinglers" that the video mentions (something I've had trouble describing in the past but which a lot of reviewers don't really seem to grasp, you may notice some of them say bass is more important for directional audio while others say it's treble when the reality is really more of a delicate balance), and the imaging and soundstage just aren't good enough imo.
      The 900 Pro X rectifies a ton of the DT line's longstanding issues imo, particularly the treble spike that's finally been brought down to a level that doesn't cater to hearing damaged individuals. It's fantastic for gaming but not so much for music imo, it has some weird dips in the frequency that make just sound kinda "wrong". This is where the 560 comes in, I haven't tried it at home for games but I do trust Fresh's gaming recommendation for them, but I did try them with music in a guitar center and they sound great with basically any genre. I think they're a much better "general use" headphone than the 900, but only if you find them to be comfortable (they have incredibly strong clamp that never really goes away due to the thick plastic construction and somewhat thin pads so unlike the HD600 line, they're not great for glasses and will not change much over time).

      Update the treble is perfectly fine. Soundstage is wide enough for me but there's no depth to the imaging, so it's more like a horizontal axis where sound plays from. I was admittedly a bit skeptical given the sheer volume of opinions regarding what the "best" gaming headphone out there is, most of which are just complete BS (which isn't surprising given that most people don't really play at a high level- my stats on Warzone/COD/Apex/PUBG/etc hover around the top 15-2% of players for context). My 4ish year journey has taken me through the X2HR, 660s, DT880, K702, and now both this 700 and 900. I must say though, this man is the real deal and the review is dead on.
    - While the 900 has pretty abysmal tuning for music imo, it really is wall-hack level while still maintaining a sound signature that's enjoyable to still experience the environment. It was almost overwhelming at first because of how much accurate information I was getting simultaneously. It's also super comfortable despite the very high clamp force, something that I've struggled with on other headphones. My one criticism is that it lacks a bit of verticality so it isn't as great at accurately representing a 3D space as some other headphones despite amazing directional imaging and good soundstage. It's also a bit expensive for something strictly gaming focused for most people, I wouldn't recommend it for general use unless you already have something else to compliment it. In that regard, I think the HD560s would still be the best for the majority of people looking to just get one headphone to do everything well (if you find it physically comfortable of course).
    - The 700 doesn't have the same wall-hacking ability, but is a good alternative if you need to have something that's a closed back and is also more fun for music. While the 900 has a surprising amount of very high quality bass for an open back, the inverse is true of the 700 in that it's very controlled bass for a closed back. This is excellent for both of them imo.
    For the other ones I have:
    - The X2HR was a decent headphone when it first released- a bass heavy and comfortable open-back headphone with a large soundstage in a time when nothing similar was really available. That being said, I think it's a muffled mess of a headphone that's basically propped up by its quirky aesthetic now. It's still good for both gaming and music at $100, it just pales in comparison to all of today's offerings.
    - The 660s, while being the big brother of the 560s, is not that good for gaming. While it has rectified the imaging issues of the prior releases, the HD600 line of headphones was always known for its ridiculously small soundstage and this is no different. While a small soundstage isn't necessarily a killer for gaming, feeling like you're having a firefight inside of a phone booth is. The bigger issue is that the sound signature is ridiculously laid back/mid-forward. Some people don't like it at all but personally, as someone who's very treble and bass sensitive, this is my absolute favorite headphone for general use and music.
    - The 880 is a love it or hate it headphone. The only thing it really excels at is listening at lower volumes imo which is probably why so many audiophiles love it. However, despite having an almost identical frequency response to the HD800, the imaging and soundstage are so poor that it does not replicate the former's performance for gaming. I'm really not a fan of the treble spike and am probably going to sell these soon.
    - The K702 is a really weird one. It's definitely second best for gaming on my short list, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily close to the 900 (but the gap is very small if you also pair it with a surround sound software like Razer THX or Dolby, the imaging is simply not good enough without it). That being said, I really love it for its absolutely enormous soundstage and uniquely "airy" presentation of games and music without feeling too sterile like the 880/800s. I probably wouldn't own it as my only headphone, but I definitely recommend that people pick them up for their current sale price of $150 before they completely disappear.
    As an added note, I've also ended up with the G303 Shroud after demoing like 12 mice over the past year or so while looking for a replacement for the G403. It's a polarizing shape, but I'm glad to see someone else also rank it so highly for FPS games.

  • @ursdubel3585

    Very nice series man, watched all of them and i also recently bought a 560s 👍👍👍. Now that i have a 560s, 660s and also rocking a 600 for like 12 years, I can tell you right away i take the 660s over the 560s for gaming
    I really like 560s and actually i would say its a more "complete" headphone then the 660s and for its price a better choice then the 660s. How ever in competitive titles i take the 660s over the 560s.
    After going back end forth with both of them for about a month, a short conclusion would be: You hear more sounds out of the 560s but the ones you get from the 660s are just better.
    The question is what are you looking for??? What i am trying to say is every game has more or less different sounds then others.. so Apex has much more sounds involved then CSGO has and that means the soundstage is less relevant in CSGO then it is in for example Apex. And thats the reason you are probably better suited with a 660s in CSGO and the 560s in Apex, remeber what i said at the beginning: You hear more sounds out of the 560s but the ones you get from the 660s are just better. Now an other difference is bass. They are both not bassy headphones but different. The 660s has less, not long lasting but crisper bass over the 560s thats another reason i take the 660s over the 560s for games. Bass is a very important part of a gaming headset because: You dont wont bass but you need bass to create depth. A gun shot in a Bunker should sound different then a shot open field in the desert and there for you need bass. The problem is if you have to much bass your highs get lost in very intense game situations. So.. bass yes but just enough. Another thing to mention is everything sounds further away on the 660s compared to the 560s, it took me a while to adjust. I dont agree with some people saying its not a good headphone for gaming because in my opinion its clearly the best 6XX headphone for it. My last argument to try the 660s is they have HD 700 drivers 😉Like your reviews and gameplay keep up man 👍👍👍

I also have to admit that i use a Amp/DAC to pair with them so its not just the headphone and this also makes a huge difference. I will allways recomend the 560s because i cant find a a better "neutral" analytic headphone for its price, its a very well rounded headphone and you cant go wrong with it. Two budget-oriented options you should try are the SHP 9500 and the Samson SR850, the SHP's have a wide soundstage, decent imaging and quite forward upper mind/low treble area, good for competitive uses. The Samson's lack detail, but the imaging seemed scary good from the little I tried them.

    Very interesting take on the DT 900. I've just recently tested them comparing them to my Zeus and HD560S and I felt like at least in Rainbow Six Siege there was too much of ambient noise going on with the DT900. I loved them for music listening due to their great sound stage and vocals are also amazing on them. Maybe it's just game depended. I didn't find the imaging to be exceptionally better than the other pairs at all. For gaming I didn't like the DT900. I'd personally go with the 560s still. My issue is the base I have on both the ZEUS and the DT900. If Zeus had less base I'd surely take it over the 560s anytime. Also one more thing I noticed is that both the DT900 and Zeus have a bit of sound isolation when you put them on. They don't sound as open as the 560s which I don't like that much. But that's personal preference.

As you somewhat pointed out while the 900 outclasses the others in the 'wallhack' tier and I feel as though it may just be diminishing returns when it comes to gaming. You are one of the only people that have reviewed them while also slightly compares/referes to each other, so I would very much would like your input as all of them are in a similar price bracket and would like to recommend it. @FreshReviewsYT  3 роки тому +4

      Hey, Noot! I actually listen to quite a few different genres, anywhere from rap, hip hop, to Red Hot Chili Peppers, sublime, etc. I would say the best for music would be the Zeus. They are warm, have amazing sound stage, and amazing imaging. They lose a bit of clarity compared to the 560s and 900 pro x in games, that is to say, when there are a ton of audio cues going off, things are just a tiny bit harder to pick up on. The 560s I would say even feel more airy and clear than the 900 pro x, but the 900 pro x seems to have a bit more readability on directional Audio cues, because the bass gives things like foot steps a little bit more of a tingle or pop to alert you to a certain area. We can say, the 900 pro x seems to be a mix of the zeus and 560s. Not too muddled by bass, and also not weak on bass.

There are more intricacies than just 'this has great imaging/soundstage so it's great for gaming'. Rather it's more in depth with things like directionality, audio cues, presence, and crosshair placement, differentiating all of these amazing cans from each other. Also, the fact that you make comparisons to cans that no one does, so that it's much easier for the audience who haven't heard them have a better idea as to how they would sound in reference to others (also the fact that I just really wanted to know how the Zeus compares to 900 pro x in music lol). Check something like "Geekria Large Hook and Loop Headband Cover" so it could fixed issues with fitting. Imho Edition XS is worth trying even with workarounds like this. I don't know if there any better headphones in 400-500 price range and sound improvment for money spent.

      I’ve been thinking of the penrose !

      @@FreshReviewsYT I have those for Playstation and Xbox. I like them a lot and a pro tip in case you didn't know you can get the Xbox version and it will work with both systems and PC. You might want to check out their LCD-GX for gaming. I have the LCD-X 2020 version that I bought the LCD boom microphone for and I use that a lot as well. It and my Focal Clear MG are my most used.

      @@rilchu3037 I had the penrose x for my Xbox series x. I thought they were alright. Wish I could have tried them with my PC though before I returned them. Either way I’m very happy with the 900 pro x’s

    So competitive speaking, The 900 Pro X is just a better 560s? Or is the 560s just better competitively but by a small margin

    when people say "for gaming" I just kinda hate how its just *assumed* for shooters. What if I want to enjoy the background music, but of course still hear the audio ques for mechanics?
    Like shooters arent the only games.
    But still this video was very informative, good job.

    I know you are more into IEM these days rather than headphones but Can you do a gaming review for Audio Technica M50x and the Sony MDR 7506? Both are the most used industry standard studio monitors. Would be great to see how they perform for gaming. I would imagine they are also used to design game audio too…. And how do they compare to the legendary Hyperx Cloud 2/Alpha… Thank you! Help up the great work!

    Hey @FreshReviews, love your reviews. Which of these three options would you recommend would pair well with the Topping DX 3 Pro +? I mistenly bought the DT990 Pro's and don't want to make the same mistake twice. Even with the DX3 Pro + they sound a bit quiet, and my main use is gaming. Thanks!!

    Hopefully a company brings out a mini xlr to mic situation like you can do on the 560s with an ablet. Ultimate gaming headset then

      I know this comment is late but I was wondering if you could suggest any DAC/Amps that I could pair with my 560s that not only had audio output but a microphone input as well. I plug my 3.5mm mic directly into the 560s. Tried the schiit fulla but it compresses my mic way too much. Thank you!
