I bought a dt 990 pro 80ohms. Thinking it was 250 Im trying to mix n master so 1990 is my go to but would you say thats the right one? Mostly doing vocal recording.
Hello !I watched your video because I would be interested in buying an open headset. At the moment I'm mixing with my recording headphones for my voice which is a SHURE SRH 440, but for the music mix it has some flaws? The first is the lack of spatialization, the second is the lack of bass and especially I do very long session sometimes and this headset is a little uncomfortable. Voila ! I have 3 choices that are offered to me the DT 990 PRO, the DT 990 pro x or the Sennheiser HD560S. You who know well these headphones can you tell me what is the most comfortable in your opinion? I am very grateful for your interesting video. Thank you and stay in the mix.
Hey Michael, thanks a lot for comparing our new PRO X headphones to our classical series. It was great to watch and very informative as always! All the best from Heilbronn, Germany
Michael is the best reviewer of audio products for me. Why? He speaks about sound first, then comes everything else. Most of the other reviewers spend 99 percent of the time talking about the build, fit, materials used, software, etc, and then talk about the sound for the remaining 1 percent. Excellent review! Kudos, Michael!
You are an awesome person. I don't know you but you really seem genuine and if more people were like you then the world would be a much more peaceful place I think. Thanks for being you!
Same here and @ a good discount before recent popularity but now I struggle finding a closed back w/ a lower consumer impedance/ohm, as comfortable, and somewhat affordable. Something like the DT 770 Pro w/ a slight upgrade but w/o the new pro X price tag. open to suggestions.
First of all, You are the Father of Fl Studio. Best Instructor. Period. Now, I've been an avid FL Studio user since 2010, version 9.1.0 and I just found out I can move windows outside the program, giving me more space to work. It's fantastic. I'm just amazed that it took me 11 years to discover that, lol. Keep up the great work you're doing. I am a member and subscriber for life.
I literally watching every beyerdynamic channel's video that has you in it, and now you review beyerdynamic in your own. I never bored watching you explaining it.
I'm using the DT 770 Pro for around 6 years now, replaced the pads. They still sound awesome. In my opinion really great price to performance. Can't say much about Audio Technica or Sennheiser other than the HD25.
been an Audio Technica ATH m50 (non x) user since around 7 years (yes the same set). They're great, I have clumsily used them throughout this time and they can definitely take a beating. But now its just time for a change. Hence looking into BD.
Replacing elements was one of the basic features when I was picking them. But honestly these headphones are so durable that you dont have to worry about replacing any parts. I've gathered info about any professional headphones in this pricerange, but these looks most durable.
Thanks for this. I was unable to decide which headphones I should've got. I'm a voice actor and a singer so i have to ve wearing headphones almost all day long, finally I chose the DT 770 Pro X. Thanks again!
I was looking for a good pair of headphones for mixing (and recording) and partly because of you I got the DT770 Pro 80ohm version. I have been using it for the last few months and I love them to death. They're so comfortable and the sound is great even for casual listening. Thankfully I don't find the top end fatiguing. I've been recommending them to all my mates. Thanks for the solid advice!
I use the DT700 ProX, had them for a year now. As I live in a small home and don't want to disturb others nearby, I find them very handy. After a year of getting used to them playing back music, tracking my own music, I can even mix and master on 'em, as I know the coloration they give the mix now. I check the levels on Yamaha HS5s, as they are much flatter and more truthful!
Thanks for this great video, would you say the premium range would be loud enough plugged into a Tascam US144 mark 2 interface? I'm worried about the impedance issue🤔
You convinced me to get the 770s, every single time I listen to them I am still blown away, ive never heard sound like that before. I use them for producing, best thing I've ever bought
I absolutely love your channel! I've made incredible improvements due to your tutorials/explanations etc. when I'm mixing my music. I currently use a set of speakers, the 770DT Pro and the 1990 and I do seperate mixes on each and compare them. I find the 770 great because they allow me to hear certain frequency spectrums and I use the 1990 for the finishing touches. They sound wastly different and you really do get a feel on how different Headphones can sound :) which is quite helpful if I'd just upload my stuff somewhere. Being a musician can be quite frustrating, especially if you're somehow always unhappy with the results. Different topic. Thank you for your content. It really helps :)
And btw when I play tidal and some well mastered famous songs in dt770. I hear sometimes harsh esses in vocals and poor bass that sound good in other headphones. Dt770 are flawed headphones
@@martinkulik9466 May I ask, what kind of interface or headphone amp you're using? My DT770 as well as the DT1990 are 250ohm versions. Generally speaking low impedance is good for low audio output sources, like phones f.e. Using a 250ohm version on a phone for example works poorly. It's way to quiet because the output signal gets drowned by the 250ohm resistance. Using 32 or 80 Ohms on a high power headphone amp or interface can result in "blow out". It creates unwanted distortion and clipping. It pushes way to much power into the headphones. Maybe that's the issue?
@@martinkulik9466 That is difficult to explain. So the 770 are closed back headphones, they don't have much if any bleed out at all (which is great for recording vocals, you don't hear the music you're playing through the vocal mic, which is a pain to fix). Having closed back headphones is very isolated and centered sounding. It is "focused" in some way. The 1990 are open back. They sound "wider" if that makes any sense. To me the DT 1990 are great to see where something sits within the stereo image. It's hard to explain. It's like the DT 770 having some keys or whatever playing at 40% panned left seems just quieter, whereas the DT 1990 how close or far away said audio source is. It's like: DT 770 "ok, it's 40% left and a bit quieter" and DT 1990 "oh, sounds like it's 40% left and about 2m away". Can't explain it any better. To me the DT 1990 give me a better image of the space or room I'm working with.
I have the DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm and it is always loud enough anywhere I plug it: My Scarlett 6i6, my 4 computers, my digital piano, and my Android smartphones. There's no problem with 80 Ohm, it's always loud. Further, you must not listen to loud music for more than a few minutes on headphones because this causes hearing problems. Take care of your ears, people; most musicians above 50 yo are having trouble these days.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. You are absolutely right about listening volume and duration. The ear is such a sensitive and special organ! I made a video many years ago talking about hearing loss and damage but I think I will make a refresh becasue it's so important. Thanks again! Michael
@@torpote i just got the 80 ohm and the top comment is absolutely right - you can use them on any device and the clarity is still amazing. I really doubt i'll ever regret not going for the 250 ohm
Thank you Michael. I've used the 770 Pro 80 ohm for a while now and love them. I may have gone for the 1990s but didn't as it would mean getting an amp or a new interface to drive them. I wonder if Beyerdynamic will produce an update to the 1990s with lower impedance. Either way, it would be interesting to see a video round up of interfaces that are better suited for use with 250 ohm headphones than most of the smaller USB-powered ones.
Thanks for the video! I’m considering getting the DT 1770 Pro since they’re on sale for €400 instead of €600. I mainly have a home studio where I record with and for friends, but I also want to pursue music professionally. I figured now might be a good time to upgrade while I have the budget. Currently, I’m using a Scarlett 2i2 (4th gen), but I’m thinking of upgrading to something like an Apollo Twin in the future. I already own the DT 990 Pros, which I really like, but I need a pair of closed-back headphones for recording. I also want something suitable for mixing and mastering. Which headphones would you recommend?
So I just got DT700 Pro X. And I have to say, these are phenomenal. I had quite alot of headphones before from Audio-technica And Sennheiser and other brands, even for higher price, but these are just so good. I can highly recommend.
I've been using fl versions since they came out, but I still learn how to use it better all the time from watching your videos. So, thanks! Good headphones are a blessing and a curse. I personally get a better picture of the mix by having 3 or 4 different hundredish (or less) pairs that I know and can compare btw, than spending the whole budget on one expensive pair. Most people won't have those; but hearing all the details is nice.
Hello I wanted to know if you could help me make a decision, I really want a pair of studio monitors but I don’t want to disturb anyone with the noise, so would you recommend the dt 900 pro x or the dt 1990 for mixing and mastering? I currently have the audio technica ath-m50x and a Presonus studio 24c audio interface and I also travel a lot. Thank you 🙏🏾 in advance!!
I bought the classic 770 32 ohms after watching your comparison and impedance videos, best buying decision I ever made. I freaking love those things. I let my cousin try them out and he honestly liked them better than the ones he had that cost him $100 more.
Hi. Did you have a chance to compare them with 80 or 250 ohms version? I have problem with decision as I bought UR-RT2 audio interface and when I started looking around for headphones I wanted to buy at least 80ohms but it turned out that my new interface has only 40 ohms on headphones output. Now I would have to buy headphones amplifier which is more expensive than DT990 PRO. I am wonder is there any big difference as manufacturer describes DT770 32 ohms as for listening from smartphone or laptop, not for music production.
@@drSin66 I haven't had the chance to compare them myself, though Michael has a whole video on impedance where he explains it really well. He describes the impedance (#of ohms) as really just determining how much power the headphones need to sound really good. My 32 ohms don't need a whole lot of power to sound amazing (and they DO sound amazing), and if you look at a sound map of the sound signatures between the 32, 80 and 250, the sound signature is virtually identical. I agonized for ages about which ohmage to get. For your circumstances, I'd highly recommend the 32s. Trust me, you're not sacrificing sound quality. The reason the manufacturer doesn't list them as being for music production is because professional producers have a high-powered situation better suited for the 80 or 250 ohms. But plenty of people in your situation use the 32ohms for music production, myself included. If you're still unsure, let Michael explain it to you! ua-cam.com/video/9CYmTNc9K14/v-deo.html
@@connorbrown7455 I've seen this Michael's video and basically I'm almost convinced to buy DT 770 32ohms but by default they have different ear pods and cable is non detachable but DT 990 Pro have same price so I that's im confused with decision. Anyway, thanks for response. I think I'll stay with 32ohms now and see what future brings
@@drSin66 I think that apart from slightly different sound profiles, the 990s are open-back, which is great for mastering but not as good for recording (open-backs leak sound more than closed-backs do). So if you plan on recording I would go closed-back.
im not sure what to get. I make soul music, r&b with alt influences. I have an x4 as an interface UAD and use Townsend labs mic and a sm7b. right now im using Beats Pro studio. the big ones. any recs ? mainly recording vocals
Question in the context of just enjoying music, not in a production setting; I'm under the impression that the DT 700 pro x has a fairly balanced sound signature, good extension in the sub bass and quite calm treble for a beyerdynamic headphone, would you say that's about right? I already have the TYGR 300R (aka treble reduced 990) but would love a closed headphone as well.
Does the 3.5 mm Jack to quarter inch Jack converter come with the headphones? I ended up buying a cheap convertor online and I wonder if it reduces the audio quality…
The 3.5mm to 1/4 inch does come with all the headphone models. Be careful with cheaper ones because they have a tendency to break off inside equipment. That might sound ridiculous but I’ve personally seen it happen 3 times. The stock ones that come with the headphones have never broken on me though!
Thank you so much for what you are doing! I've been watching your videos for quite a long time now and I've been enjoying every bit of them. The content is always very informative while being really interesting, and the video and audio quality is amazing too! I've learned so many things thanks to you. Please, keep up the awesome work. :D I'm looking forward to what will come next in the upcoming years! Have a great day and thanks again! :D
thanks Michael Wynne and Beyerdynamic for the informative and honest videos on the DT Pro X series! I was convinced to buy a pair of 700 Pro Xs and it didn't disappoint. the best studio flat response loud sounding headphones I have ever purchased. so accurate and clean which helps musicians like me. this will also be very good for mixers whether live or studio use. super highly recommended! #audiophileheadphones
Hi!! 🙂 I’m looking to play electric guitar and bass at home, and since I recently moved into an apartment, I’d like a good headphone solution to avoid disturbing my neighbors. I’m considering Beyerdynamic headphones, but I’m unsure which model would be best for my needs. I plan to use the headphones with an audio interface-like a Scarlett 2i2-connected to my computer. I’m especially interested in the DT 770 PRO X Limited Edition 48 Ohm model, as its detachable cable could allow for a microphone and make the headphones versatile enough for other activities like gaming. I’m used to playing through amplifiers, so this kind of setup is new to me. I’d like headphones that provide a good volume level without putting my hearing at risk and deliver a high-quality sound experience for practicing music. Would you be so kind as to recommend which headphones would work best for this setup? Thank you very much for your help! Best regards,
And also harsh and metallic. Ok detail but bass lack fullness behind it. I am happier with 5 other cheaper headphones vs dt770 80ohm that I put immediately for sale...I still wonder who uses headphones that sound bad out of the box for monitoring/tracking/mixing... Defies logic to track and judge music on headphones that are harsh with hollow bass
well, since u love to help out, ill indulge you with my problem :p im poducing (mainly deeper progressive psytrance) in my bedroom/livingroom, which shows im on a tight budget. my room customisation options are close to none, the positioning very bad - corner, no space between speakers and wall. i use a combination of akg 271 mk II`s for checking mids/highs, and sennheiser hd 280`s (which i already owned for djing) as the main set, as well as a teufel cc 2.1 system with a capable subwoofer for mixing. its all connected via my behringer xenyx q802. my questions are: is it even viable to use the 2.1 set in these conditions to mitigate the headphone left/right channel/spacial awareness issue complex? should i use my about 300€ budget to invest in higher quality headphones (if so, which ones?), or should i get studio monitors? (thinking about a set of krk rokit rp5 g4, which would be mounted on the wall directly behind the desk) if monitors, should i use them with the subwoofer? it´s crossover frequency of 40hz would go reasonably well with the rokits 43hz - 40 000hz range, though i read and heard many times that woofers need room treatment to be of any value, instead of being harmful. is there anything else u could recommend to improve the situation? thank you very much for reading this far, and for all the amazing free content. you awesome human being!
I've had the DT 990 Pros for over a year now and they really are amazing. I use a Focusrite Scarlett Solo as my audio interface and it drives them just fine. I was wondering though if I should get the closed back classic model as well? Just for more versatility when working
Hi Michael, I'm kinda confused to which one I should get the classic 900 one or the 700 one? 700 pro X or 900 pro X I have a focus Scarlett 2i2 and I make mostly noisy trap and hiphop so I need to hear everythin even when it's super noisy so could you please help me pick one. Appreciate it alot Love your channel I learned alot of from you Thank you.
Really great review on these, thanks for covering a lot of the details. Im looking to replace my ATM M50 with either the DT 700 Pro X or the DT 770 Pro (80ohm). The Pro X seem pricey, but if they are meant to last a long time I'm willing to invest. The main use for the headphones would be mixing and mastering (already own a semi open pair, but been living in a somewhat noisy environment). Have you found yourself replacing the DT 770 Pro with the new Pro X for mixing and mastering or do you still go back and trust the DT 770 for those specific tasks? Thank you!
I also have the ATM50x, these are for tracking, i shouldn’t be using them for mixing but my Shure 840’s broke. I’ve decided to go with the DT990 80 ohm & i’ve heard the strong high end does ease over time. I must say i’m also interested in the 700 pro X & 900. 👌
For VO work you can’t go wrong with the 80 ohm DT770 PRO. They will let you hear sibilants and annoying high frequency sounds and fix them when setting up your microphone. They also won’t allow much sound to leak and be picked up by the microphone
I strictly consume content, no recording or mixing at all. I run my headphones from a dedicated amp+DAC stack connected to my PC, and that PC is located in a space that's quiet enough for me to mostly use open back headphones. My primary uses are music and video games. For my use case, if I'm considering the DT 900 Pro X and the DT 1990 Pro, what would you say are the key differences to consider?
DT 770 is the first headphone I bought for my studio, I dunno, 15 (?) years ago. All I did was sapping the ear pads once. Every singer I records still uses them. Got some more expensive AKGs, too. Originally for me to listen to music, but a year ago I went back to the DT 880, and I couldn't be happier.
HI, great review. Thanks for the comparison. Just wanted to know which headphones you'd recommend for making guitar patches and recording/ tracking guitars/ vocals? I already have the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro so would the Beyer Dynamics be a significant upgrade from those? I'm not a professional musician so was leaning toward the DT 700 Pro X but would be glad to get your suggestions. Thanks.
I followed your advice in May last year and bought the DT 770 80 ohm version. I haven't looked back - or listened back, hehe - since. Whether I plug them into my audio interface, my stereo, my phone or anywhere else, they always give me that incredible crystal clear and defined sound with a solid foundation and a really wide stereo panorama that I haven't found anywhere else. Maybe the products of the upper prize echelons are indeed much more refined but I fully agree with you that the classic model is the one with the best bang for the buck. Thanks for the advice last year and this update.
Thanks! Yeah I totally agree with you. What’s great about those is that you don’t have to worry about missing out or upgrading. They just sound great and are super comfortable too :)
Which phone you have? Samsung can't drive them. Iphone 6s plus they sound ok, I still prefer Superlux 681 Evo and I have them 770. 80ohm for sale brand new for 120 euro. I don't like their metallic harsh tin canny sound with bass that lacks body behind it. Punch is good, but superluxes sound fuller
@@JCrashB quick Google and ppl complain about poor audio quality on g6. What's the impedance!? I thought you gonna tell me lgv30 which has high output DAC for example. Even iphones 6/6s plus are great at driving through jack.y Samsung S9+ can't drive dt770.... Are you able to compare more headphones from more sources? To me dt770 are overblown hype. I can't use them for music making either... They don't privide true to life sound. I have studio quality drums in my synth that sound hollow in dt770... That's not how those drums sound... They sound truer to life in 4x cheaper Superlux 681 Evo in comparison...
Thank you very much for your video. Those headphones are definitely worth a try. Interested in 900 Pro X Actually I am using various models, but also DT 770 80-Ohms and DT 990 250-Ohms and 600-Ohms. Loving all three for different tasks. Not to forget Sennheiser HD600, HD25 and Bowers & Wilkins P7. Cheers 🍀🖖🏼🙂
Love the channel, one of my 2 go to channels now for production information. I am asking for the DT 770 Pro for my bday this year. I'm very new to production, it's more of a hobby and I don't have a full set up in my house so I need to be a bit portable. I use Ableton Live 11 and a labtop most of the time. Got worried when I realize there was a 32, 80 and 250. Can I ask for the 80 Ohms (no interface for now) without much issue? I don't need them to ever be super loud, just want the quality. Fwiw, I'm using Bose earbuds right now, so this will be my first real pair and hopefully for a long term. Thank you!
I have the DT 990 Pro in 80 Ohm (Black Spacial Edition) and they work just fine with my Laptop and even on my Phone. You definitely can produce on them. 👍
@@florian9220 Ok awesome, thanks! I understand all great headphones work better with an amp. I just didn't want to take it out of the box and not really be usable.
Update, I got the 80 Ohm and it works easily with just plugging it into the computer. Still a super upgrade for a non audiophile. I'm sure it gets better with an amp but if you are a rookie with headphones, these are still great as is.
Okay, so I have a question. I’ve decided the DT1770 Pros are the headphones for me from everything I’ve heard about them. I want to know what sub £200 amp would be best for these headphones? I want to use them with a Nord Grand digital piano, Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 3rd Gen Audio Interface, and also with an iPad Pro for Hi-Res Lossless music listening. Can anyone give me any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
I've been using the DT-990 Pro for about 10 years now. I did have a problem early on with the headphone cable connecting to the ear cup. It started to crack and expose the wires, but Sweetwater replaced it for me and it has been solid for many years. It is time for an upgrade, but I trust the Beyerdynamic sound so much. Where is the best place to buy replacement pads in Europe?
@@rags015 For the pads? Yeah I saw them on their site. Might look for some cheaper options... With shipping (EUR for me), it comes out to $50. They do have improved foam discs for sale also that cover the components.
HEY Michael I have just bought DT 990 pro due to tight budget and because proX series isn't available in my region, I already have Sonarworks, So tell me is DT990 Pro and sonarworks will do the work for me? I am liking it so far but i am concern if calibrating headphones will damage headphones in future or not ?
Hi Michael, thanks for the great video! I recently got the DT 1990s and I love them to death. I was initially looking at the DT 990 Edition ones cause I'd heard them at a friend's place and was blown away by the soundstage and resolution (hadn't heard open-back headphones before). Now, however, I'm looking into upgrading my shoddy closed-back Brainwavz HM5 to something with a better build and that sweet Beyerdynamic sound signature ^^ Naturally, I looked at the DT 770 Pros first, as they such good value and was contemplating which impedance version (80 or 250) to get, but found out just today that the 700 Pro X are a thing. I have a decent audio interface and a good amp, so powering them is not really a concern - I'm really just looking for great sound and detail. With that in mind, would you say that the less 'scooped' lower midrange less 'airy' highs on the 700 Pro X give them a flatter frequency response compared to the 770 Pro? Another reviewer mentioned that the soundstage isn't as wide as the classic 770s on the new 700 X - would you say the same? Last but not least, do you think the lower impedance rating on the 700 Pro X impedes (hehe) their ability to reproduce detail? Does resolution in the mids/highs suffer from this at all? I'd understand if Michael doesn't manage to get through all comments, so if anyone has managed to try both pairs, I'd appreciate your 2 cents. Thanks!
Have you ever tried your DT1990 on a Fiio K5 pro? That amp does it all, has a LOT of power and it blows you away with dynamics, volume and sound quality. Definately a good investment.
Tnx for your great video, I want to play, record and monitor my electric guitar with my Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen, do you think I should go for DT990Pro 250ohm or DT900Pro? Ohm-wise(is it a real word?!) or can I reach necessary volume with DT990Pro? And do you recommend open back headphones for my situation? I saw your video about ohm and open or closed back headphones. I appreciate for your time and help 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi Michael, I’m leaning towards the DT 700 Pro X, My main areas of use are for editing multitracks and also for mixing virtual playback on my Behringer Wing mixing desk to dial in Compression, stereo delay and reverbs etc What’s your thoughts or recommendations?
Is the ambient noise bleed truly just too much to get any productive work done in public settings? Or can it be worked around? Eg. sitting in a "quiet" corner of a coffee shop, kava bar, restaurant, etc. Or will I really just hear everything around me overwhelmingly loud? I'm shopping for an upgrade pair of production headphones - already own the DT 770 Pro 80 ohm. I'd really like to try out and experience the wider soundstage and deeper low end of open backs, but there's no point if I won't be able to mix properly. I primarily work outside of my home studio lately. I like to be in my bubble, but still in the world when I work - gets me out of my head, not overthink and focus. Do you think open backs, for my use case, are even worth a shot? Or just go for the new closed backs? Are the differences really night and day?
I've been producing for over 7 years now. I have audient id4 currently I'm using audio technica m 40 x and looking for an upgrade. I've used audio technica headphones for 3 years and I feel like upgrading so which berydynamic headphones would be suitable for me ??
Hi, Is ther anything you feel is lacking in the ATH M40X? is there an issue with the comfort, sound stage etc? This might help me figure out what you are looking to get out of a new pair. If yoiu have spent years becoming familiar with the sound profile, it might be good to slowly transition to a new brand.
@@inthemix well I've used audio technica m40x for maximum of my productions and they've given me pretty good mixes but what I've noticed is when I hear the mixed track in my headphones everything sounds great but when I test my mixes in car or some other listening environment the bass sounds weird and it's always bass that sounds a bit off in terms of tightness. I've noticed that otherwise the mids and highs sound perfect and also translates well in other listening environment.
Michael, I'm using MAudio interface and am sold on Beyermetric head phones (open back). What is the best choice for this? I would like to play my mixes from various listening devices. Ohms , etc. thanks
Great review and my timing here is perfect. Question: I am mobile these days and do more mixing than producing or mastering these days, which would you recommend I buy - the DT 880/990 or the DT 900 X?
Hi Micheal, so if I am using headphones only in my home studio plugged into my focusrite 2i2 interface, which one do you recommend ? Great video by the way, very informative. Tks
Hey. What will be the best DT edition to use them with Arturia Audiofuse Rev2?. Not producing, but maybe for daily basis, listening random music and so on. Cheers and thanks for review!
Hi Michael, having an open back headphone is necessary for mixing/mastering. Plz tell me if I can use 900 pro x , the open back for recording songs also as I can't afford buying two different sets of headphone separately for mixing/mastering and recording. I really need your answer as I have no idea at all and I need to purchase the one best piece that fits for both mixing/mastering and recording.
Hi, a simple question. Are beyerdynamics headphones 1990 in particular fast in transient response? How fast in comparison to the 880 as everyone says both of the have similar frequency response. Is it worth spending extra for the flagship?
Great video! I just had a very decisive moment in my life, and I returned the 770 pro 80 ohm and bought the 700 pro x (they should be arriving tomorrow)! From all the videos I've watched and things I've read it seems like the treble is going to really sound so much better on the 700 pro x. In my short few week relationship with the 770s the treble was just too overbearing in certain frequencies, but I loved literally everything else about the sound of the headphones (I've never had headphones with such a wide soundstage it brings an entirely new dimension to music listening and production). The other thing I didn't like about the 770s was the non detachable, and HUGE cable. Like you said, I'm literally sitting right in front of my computer and having that 3 meter non replaceable cable was beginning to be more of a hassle than anything else. So I used my first world Amazon privilege of sending something back before the one month period ends. Long story short, I'm just doing that thing where I'm justifying my purchase and reinforcing it by watching videos related to the product, hahaha. Again, great video, I feel justified now, LOL! Cheers!
You are a true Master!! I love watching your videos!! There's so much basic and useful info for those of us trying to create music. I'm only trying to create music for myself and your videos are just a true delight to watch and listen!!
@@Davesmith-yr4ij Sorry!!! I believed I missed the comment due to working overtime!!! Which number is that? Is it in the description or is it too late for me? Sorry!
I've been using the DT770 Pro for years now and I don't want another. It's my "ol reliable" for mixing. I know the sound of these and how it's supposed to sound. Good stuff.
Hi Michael, please which one would you recommend for using with Nord Stage directly, or would you even recommend to put something in between? Thank you.
I just ordered myself some DT990 Pro. My first pair of professional headphones. I was wondering, with the open back you have to increase the volume due to the external noise? Or is not that much of a difference? Also which DAC/Amplifier should I go with? I'll just use them to listen to music.
Hi Michael, thanks for all your videos. I'm looking for an open back headphones. I'm between the dt 900 pro x and the dt 1990 pro. Can I drive properly the1990s with my Apollo Twin KMII headphone out? whitch would you choose? Tks again!
Hey Michael, I have a question.. I have a NI Komplete Audio 2 interface and i'm looking to buy the 900 Pro X headphones for mixing. Will the 900 Pro X work properly with my audio interface?
I'm about to buy the DT 770 PRO (€129.00), I have the option to buy it at 250 Ohm, I got a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 2nd Gen. Does the 250 Ohm will work with my Scarlett or should I pick the 80 Ohm version ?
Hi Michael, I just found your video and although an old video. I would appreciate your advise on which one would be better suited to a high end electric piano ( Kawai ES920) for home practice. Definitely has to be closed back. In your opinion what would capture all the resonance, timbre, tones and fullness of a high end grand piano sample of todays electric pianos? Thank you for your videos and honest opinion. 🙏👍🙏
Hi Michael, I'm looking for headphones for producing and mixing electronic music. I'm heavily focused on more low end sounds like bases and plucks and making intricate details in the low end. Which headphones would you recommend?
So my K240s are toast now, after 10 years. I use the Behringer UMC404HD, which gets somewhat distorty after 2'oclock in the headphones out. would you suggest the 250 or 80 ohm? DT990 Pro
Would you recommend the DT 770 Pro 250 ohms over the 80 ohms version for general studio use (tracking, mixing, mastering, etc.)? And will the Apollo Twin X Duo be enough to power them or would I need a headphone amp?
i have the classic ath-m50 headphones that i’ve been happy with for about 10 years now, but i’d like to supplement them with one of the open-back beyerdynamic models (mainly for the soundstage). which one of these in a open-back version would you pick to compliment the ath-m50?
Im interested in the DT 770, primary use is mixing attached to an Audio interface so the 250 OHM is the apparently the best choice for "quality", but I say for some reason I wanna to use it with an iPad or something, can I just get a tiny portable amp for it? I wouldn't care if a tiny amp would ruin the sound profile when using an iPad/Phone as that would be just for media consumption and not mixing. Or should I sacrifice a bit a clarity/quality and go for the 80 OHM version that works well with anything?? My current headphones are Sennheiser's HD25 that I abuse for DJing, so also wondering if a DT 770 is that much better to justify a 2nd pair.
Interestingly, they have a DT 770 Pro X Limited Edition model coming out, they announced on their site, in celebration of their 100 year anniversary. It uses the Stellar.45 drivers, but is supposed to keep the sound signature of the 770s.
What would you recommend for voice over editing on a tight budget? I like my Audio Techinica m40x for pinpointing problems (i.e. pops, clicks, saliva, etc) but I feel they're harsh in the sibilant range, so I'm not sure if I can trust them for EQing and compression. I'm mainly looking for a flat budget headphone that I can use when choosing settings for EQ and compression of speech. Would the 770 work well for this purpose? Can I get away with something cheaper like the Sennheiser HD 280?
Hello Michael , I'm planning to replace my current dt770's pro (32ohms) because somehow the wire where it goes to the body is cutting out the sound and I need to replace it but it will be a bit of a complicated process so I thought about getting the dt990's but I only were able to find the 250ohms model and I only have a laptop (without an amp or an interface) , so what you think , should I get a new 770's 80 ohm or go for 990's 250 and then invest in an amp down the line ?
Hi, the audio interface that I'm eyeing on may need a high impedance pair of headphones hence, I am in the market for a DT770 Pro at 250ohms. Do you suppose the DT700 Pro X would hold up given the updated drivers despite the 48ohm impedance?
Hi Michael.. Which pair of headphones do you recommend for mixing and mastering between DT990 pro and DT900 pro x? I currently use ATH M50x (closed) and HD650 with Sonarworks correction. (I can't currently afford a DT1990 pro.) Thanks in advance.
Hello, I’m needing a set of Beyerdynamics for my Axe I/O interface. Using it for Amplitube 5. I’m a guitar player who likes to track and record riffs for songs and not sure if the 700 Pro X or 900 pro X would be more ideal for my situation. I’ve been told closed back is what I need, but what’s your advice given your experience?? Thanks 🙏 I like the detachable cable of the pro series.
Update: I’ll be replying to all questions and comments, I’m going to get around to them all in good time :)
I bought a dt 990 pro 80ohms.

Im trying to mix n master so 1990 is my go to but would you say thats the right one?
Mostly doing vocal recording.
I have my old DT-990 bought 25 years ago. Love it still. :))
Which one would be best for mixing and making beats on my windows 10 using FL studio?
I'm thinking about buying a pair of the Beyerdynamic amiron wireless headphones. Have you had any experience with them?

Same here and @ a good discount before recent popularity but now I struggle finding a closed back w/ a lower consumer impedance/ohm, as comfortable, and somewhat affordable. Something like the DT 770 Pro w/ a slight upgrade but w/o the new pro X price tag. open to suggestions.

Mine for a year and I agree 💯%! Especially for classical and film music.
I'm using the DT 770 Pro for around 6 years now, replaced the pads. They still sound awesome. In my opinion really great price to performance. Can't say much about Audio Technica or Sennheiser other than the HD25.
I have the DT770 and the HD58X and I couldn't be happier

I was looking for a good pair of headphones for mixing (and recording) and partly because of you I got the DT770 Pro 80ohm version. I have been using it for the last few months and I love them to death. They're so comfortable and the sound is great even for casual listening. Thankfully I don't find the top end fatiguing. I've been recommending them to all my mates. Thanks for the solid advice!
perfect timing, just thought I want to upgrade my headphone
I use the DT700 ProX, had them for a year now. As I live in a small home and don't want to disturb others nearby, I find them very handy. After a year of getting used to them playing back music, tracking my own music, I can even mix and master on 'em, as I know the coloration they give the mix now. I check the levels on Yamaha HS5s, as they are much flatter and more truthful!

What's different about 1990? My 770 80ohm have metallic treble I can't stand and bass that's there but it's hollow... They are put on sale
@@GooZe... Don't feed the troll though ;)

@@drSin66
I haven't had the chance to compare them myself, though Michael has a whole video on impedance where he explains it really well.

Hi thank you for your good video. Which one can i buy for mix and mastering? Which is best

Hi!! 🙂
I’m looking to play electric guitar and bass at home, and since I recently moved into an apartment, I’d like a good headphone solution to avoid disturbing my neighbors.

Best regards,
Very helpful. I have the 770s which I find slightly too bright, so liking the look of the Pro X's.
And also harsh and metallic. Ok detail but bass lack fullness behind it. well, since u love to help out, ill indulge you with my problem :p
im poducing (mainly deeper progressive psytrance) in my bedroom/livingroom, which shows im on a tight budget. my room customisation options are close to none, the positioning very bad - corner, no space between speakers and wall. i use a combination of akg 271 mk II`s for checking mids/highs, and sennheiser hd 280`s (which i already owned for djing) as the main set, as well as a teufel cc 2.1 system with a capable subwoofer for mixing. its all connected via my behringer xenyx q802.
my questions are:
is it even viable to use the 2.1 set in these conditions to mitigate the headphone left/right channel/spacial awareness issue complex?
should i use my about 300€ budget to invest in higher quality headphones (if so, which ones?), or should i get studio monitors? (thinking about a set of krk rokit rp5 g4, which would be
mounted on the wall directly behind the desk)
if monitors, should i use them with the subwoofer? it´s crossover frequency of 40hz would go reasonably well with the rokits 43hz - 40 000hz range, though i read and heard many times that woofers need room treatment to be of any value, instead of being harmful.
is there anything else u could recommend to improve the situation?

Really great review on these, thanks for covering a lot of the details. Im looking to replace my ATM M50 with either the DT 700 Pro X or the DT 770 Pro (80ohm). The Pro X seem pricey, but if they are meant to last a long time I'm willing to invest. The main use for the headphones would be mixing and mastering (already own a semi open pair, but been living in a somewhat noisy environment). Have you found yourself replacing the DT 770 Pro with the new Pro X for mixing and mastering or do you still go back and trust the DT 770 for those specific tasks? Thank you!

Do all these comparisons hold up to the open back versions as well? Also I'm curious as to how soundstage and imaging varies between these models.
Yes they do, same comparisons but obviously a wider sound stage!
HI, great review. Thanks for the comparison. Just wanted to know which headphones you'd recommend for making guitar patches and recording/ tracking guitars/ vocals?

Thank you very much for your video.
Those headphones are definitely worth a try.
Interested in 900 Pro X
Actually I am using various models, but also DT 770 80-Ohms and DT 990 250-Ohms and 600-Ohms.
Loving all three for different tasks.
Not to forget Sennheiser HD600, HD25 and Bowers & Wilkins P7.

I use the Focusrite solo interface and it can power the 250ohm 880’s just fine
You can contact Beyerdynamic directly!
@@mlschaap hey, thanks for the suggestion! I'll be sure to put it on my list of things to try :)
That must be one of the smoothest “please leave a comment” ever. ;-)
Thanks for great info.
Me who casually blames my cheap headphones for a bad mix.😭

Tnx for your great video, I want to play, record and monitor my electric guitar with my Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen, do you think I should go for DT990Pro 250ohm or DT900Pro? Ohm-wise(is it a real word?!) or can I reach necessary volume with DT990Pro? And do you recommend open back headphones for my situation? I saw your video about ohm and open or closed back headphones. I appreciate for your time and help 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Nice video. Thank You
Hi Michael, I’m leaning towards the DT 700 Pro X,
My main areas of use are for editing multitracks and also for mixing virtual playback on my Behringer Wing mixing desk to dial in Compression, stereo delay and reverbs etc
What’s your thoughts or recommendations?

I've noticed that otherwise the mids and highs sound perfect and also translates well in other listening environment.
great review, really

Cheers!

Great comparison - and as always: super informative 🙏🏻 Have a great weekend.

Hi Michael, I am very sensitive to high frequencies and looking for a more flat in neutral sound. Which one of these would you recommend?
Quite late to ask this, but for Gaming and Content Creation, which one will you recommend? Original DT 770Pros or the new DT 700 Pro X?
Hi Michael,
I just found your video and although an old video.
DT990 Pro

Hey michael i just wanted to ask if you use a pre amp or an interface for your headphones. And if yes which one?
Would you recommend the DT 770 Pro 250 ohms over the 80 ohms version for general studio use (tracking, mixing, mastering, etc.)? And will the Apollo Twin X Duo be enough to power them or would I need a headphone amp?
I don't recommend either of them... I'm 99.99% sure he was paid by them to make this video...
i have the classic ath-m50 headphones that i’ve been happy with for about 10 years now, but i’d like to supplement them with one of the open-back beyerdynamic models (mainly for the soundstage). which one of these in a open-back version would you pick to compliment the ath-m50?

Hey Michael I have a question,
What kind of amp should I use for the DT PRO X Headphone?
Hello Michael , I'm planning to replace my current dt770's pro (32ohms) because somehow the wire where it goes to the body is cutting out the sound and I need to replace it but it will be a bit of a complicated process so I thought about getting the dt990's but I only were able to find the 250ohms model and I only have a laptop (without an amp or an interface) , so what you think , should I get a new 770's 80 ohm or go for 990's 250 and then invest in an amp down the line ?

Michael just dropped his head cm circumference to help us on his review! what a professional!
Hey Micheal, which pair would you recommend for mastering? Thnx bud
Hi, the audio interface that I'm eyeing on may need a high impedance pair of headphones hence, I am in the market for a DT770 Pro at 250ohms. Do you suppose the DT700 Pro X would hold up given the updated drivers despite the 48ohm impedance?
Amazing reviews, really love all the information and knowledge! Thank you!
Hi Michael.. Which pair of headphones do you recommend for mixing and mastering between DT990 pro and DT900 pro x?
I currently use ATH M50x (closed) and HD650 with Sonarworks correction.
(I can't currently afford a DT1990 pro.)

Hello, I’m needing a set of Beyerdynamics for my Axe I/O interface. Using it for Amplitube 5. I’m a guitar player who likes to track and record riffs for songs and not sure if the 700 Pro X or 900 pro X would be more ideal for my situation.
