- Join me as I head out for a solo wild camping trip in some pretty bad weather.
After setting up my tarp shelter, I make a campfire before sheltering out the rain for the night.

Your videos help me fall asleep at night, especially the raining ones.
Your fero rod problem is exactly why I carry the ones the way I do. I have a 5 inch one in my fire starting kit, a small one with magnesium and striker in my emergency kit, and a small one in my first aid kit with striker. I was a boy scout, I believe in being prepared and my grandfather was born in 1885 and said you could never have too many ways to start a fire. I also carry matches and a lighter.

Great video with some atmospheric shots. I wondered how to tie the Evenk hitch so went to Animated Knots by Grog. Typing evenk into the search function took me to the Siberian Hitch and an animation of the hitch being tied by a gloved hand. It’s a good website for those of us who only tie knots occasionally. I’m not sure I could enjoy camping with the ground so damp but I’m glad that you do because watching your video is very enjoyable.

Loved the simplicity of this camp and appreciated you naming the knots. The starting with six sausages and finishing with five didn’t go unnoticed Matt (is it cooked test huh!). A deer stalkers rain jacket would eliminate the audio rustle. Thanks for your efforts 🙏

@@ADVENTUREISMADE I follow a lot of hunting channels, their jackets are designed with materials not to make noise so animals don’t get spooked. I’ve not noticed it that bad before it’s like it’s made of stiff Gortex and not softer fabric like pertex? Keep them coming, missing not seeing Poppy.

Absolutely perfect channel for me, who sucks at most things in life, see someone who actually knows what he's doing. And really happy to see what the names of the knots are so I don't have to write in the comment field "what is the name of the knot" even though I would never even be lucky enough to get it together. Thanks mate! Yeah she's doing well thanks. I knackered my knee a few months back and only just getting back out and didn't want to risk it going again and having Poppy to worry about. But looks like it's healed up OK so I'll start taking her out with me again soon 😁👍🏻

Hey this was a great watch Matt. That stump was a lucky find there. That camp looked familiar. Have you camped there before? My buddy and I hike into the same camp here periodically. Hey!! Hope Poppy’s doin ok. Oh yeah!! I was gonna ask you… can you light pine pitch with a ferro rod? Do you have to break it up into small pieces first? I just got a new ferro rod from a small cottage company here in the states. I try to buy “gear from here” when I can. It’s not always possible but doin the best i can. Hi mate, I have camped at the loch a few times, just not in the spot. Poppy is good thanks, I tore a cartilage in my knee a few months back and only just getting back out know. Hey Matt! I was a bit confused to seeing you set up a fire in what seems to be quite a bit of dead grass. Is it really wet enough to set up a campfire over there and not have to worry about the surrounding grass? Or how do you make sure it doesn't start spreading?

Hi mate, so yeah the ground was soaking wet and with all that rain everything was really saturated. I would do this in the warmer and dryer months tho.

Did you stay there all night, just wondering. That fire in those conditions would have needed constant tending and wood gathering. That fire is dead cold this morning.
Yeah I just let the fire die out when I got in my sleeping bag, the cold and the rain put the fire out during the night.
