Glp1 type drugs are great for most people, but my brother in law whom was new to his diabetic diagnosis, died last summer after using these drugs because his stomach just quit working ... it ripped away from the esophagus, he became septic and died ... please don't let the dr tell you some of the side effects are normal if you know it feels wrong. Understand the side effects of all your medications

I am age 74 and have been using Functional Medicine for the past 15-years to enhance and heal my metabolic system. I have multiple Autoimmune Conditions and joint issues and mechanical physical issues that prevent me from doing heavy exercising now (after MANY years of doing extensive hiking, swimming, biking, aerobic dancing ballroom dancing AND DIETING ) I do walk my working dog a lot now and I try to eat a nutrient rich organic diet but I am still overweight according to the charts. I take care of my husband with cognitive decline and neurological issues - ALL BY MYSELF, our condo, our rescue dog and quite frankly I don't have the extra energy and the stamina to exercise heavily these days. I just don't have it in me. I eat two meals per day ( grass fed meat and vegetables) and then I fast.
LOVE Dr Lustig, a genius! BUT, the individual does share some responsibility for their obesity, health and everything in their life. Yes, some things are beyond our control. But come on, for the most part, everything that happens in our lives is of our own doing. Living life and taking personal responsibility leads to a happier life. Believe it or not. I was overweight, changed my life lost the 50 lb and I'm far healthier. Why was I 50 lb overweight? It was entirely my fault, my diet, my activity levels, and work related stress, that I created. I'm sorry we must be accountable for our behaviors and their outcomes. To blame it all on a biochemical and insulin demon, which is correct, but what triggers that? Your diet and your activity levels. And that is on you.
I am so comfortable with listing to you. I am just as comfortable to puting your recommndations to practice. How ever as a insulin dependent diabetic، due to forgetting your teachings after few days and damage all goods I have done. I have now chosen to cut all carbohydrate in take and only eat green vegtabls، green apples، fish، chicken and red meat once each day، about 3.00 pm also nuts، tea، coffee and boiled eggs if hungry in between during the day time hours. I carry a Libra 2 arm attached glucose moniter. Thank u for changing my life.
I used a levels CGM for 12 months and then eventually went high fat carnivore because I noticed eating that way made my glucose so stable. I’m now doing therapeutic ketosis to keep my migraines in remission and have to use a ketone meter for that. I hope everyone can use a Levels CGM along their health journey because they make a huge difference as everyone is so different! I hope they come out with a continuous ketone monitor next to be used! I have also found the Metabolic Mind channel to be extremely helpful too.
The secret to body health. It takes little or only one. Man is a mammal therefore his bodily development begins with the suckling of his mother's milk. This is the model food for man for his entire life. It is generally known that breast milk contains: water, protein, fat, some carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Everyone focuses on protein, fat and carbohydrates as the main components of energy. These are all necessary but no one asks the question of what is needed to provide electrical impulses to the muscles. It is calcium. Smooth muscle fibers are found in the walls of hollow visceral organs such as the liver, pancreas and intestines. The heart is one big muscle. Skeletal muscle fibers are found in muscles that are attached to the skeleton. Calcium enables muscles to function properly, including contraction and diastole, which is necessary for every movement, every heartbeat, every movement of the intestines, pancreas and liver. As we know, the muscle that can never stop is the heart. So the brain will always consider it a priority to get calcium ions to the heart muscle. There is a widespread belief that calcium is mainly needed for building bones. And this is the biggest lie that is publicly presented. It is enough to ask a basic question: if calcium is used mainly for bone building, why does the body prefer to endure bone and joint pain due to osteoporosis, why can it even allow bone fractures due to weakening of bones so that a person cannot move to look for food? Why does it prefer to suck all the calcium out of the teeth exposing a person to digestive problems due to lack of chewing food (for the body, an artificial jaw does not exist). Now that we know that this is a fact, the second question is: where is the calcium so important if the body robs the bones and joints of it? Well, the priority is precisely the continuous work of the heart. Then the work of the limbs and organs that have muscles. The conclusion is clear that bones are an iron reservoir of calcium, which must always be on hand. That bones are a storehouse is evidenced by the fact that they can knit together, that is, rebuild their structure with calcium. It is a storehouse for issuing and receiving calcium. Daily standards for calcium intake: women aged 19-50 years - 1000 mg, women aged >51 years - 1200 mg, men aged 19-65 years - 1000 mg, men aged >66 years - 1200 mg, pregnancy and lactation 50 years of age - 2000 mg/day. These are, of course, averaged values but are quite authoritative. Thus, any lower supply of calcium to the body means tapping into reserves in the bones. That's why many elderly people already have depleted calcium stores and suffer from a variety of bone disorders: fractures, back pain, joint pain, dental cavities. It also has a great impact on the psyche. I would argue that addiction to all stimulants such as coffee, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, addiction to emotional sensations, sports, sex are masking low access to energy. We consume energy in abundance yet our transmission network is inefficient. Therefore, the body seeks moments when it is not at such low energy levels. For example, how does coffee work? When it is in the blood it has the property of abundantly pulling calcium out of the muscles and letting it circulate through the circulatory system. Then one feels arousal because the main internal organs have temporary full access to energy while some muscles do not, and that is why they may tremble, for example, hands or eyelids because there are disruptions in the contraction and diastole of muscles that lack calcium. Some say that coffee leaches magnesium and that's why there are these tremors. Nothing could be further from the truth. Coffee per balance provides more magnesium than it excretes due to its diuretic nature. So homeostasis or energy balance must be restored in the body so that it begins to function properly. When the human body is saturated with calcium it will not seek more sensations. It will not throw itself on carbohydrates - a source of quick energy. The need for energy in general will decrease and stimulants will become unattractive. Then you can even risk saying: take care of your calcium levels and eat what you want. This is because nature enters its proper rotation and selects for itself what it needs in the right amounts. That's when you get back to the right weight and proper fitness. And what are the best sources of calcium? Dairy products are known for their high amounts of calcium, however, consuming them is associated with more or less of a problem of mucus formation in the body as an immune response so they should not be the main source of calcium. In my opinion, the best source of calcium is eggshell. One whole eggshell weighing 6g contains 2g of calcium, which is exactly the highest tolerable intake of calcium for adults over 50 years of age. , and half a shell provides the total daily calcium requirement. Shells are best eaten raw and with the peel in which there is collagen to preserve all the biological values of the shell, ground or crushed for better absorption (wash off or avoid the paint from the stamp marking the origin of the egg). If you cannot tolerate eggshell, you can supplement calcium with calcium citrate, which is a relatively inexpensive supplement. This citrate does not cause constipation and is well absorbed. You can start with a dose of 500mg of calcium per dose. Time of consumption indifferent. It is best mixed with food. Its taste is indifferent and does not affect the taste of food. In this way you can withdraw any bone pain, back pain, joint pain. If short-lived pains appear somewhere in the body, it is a sign that the body is starting to rebuild damaged tissues. Why should a person supplement vitamin D3? To pull calcium out of the bones faster. The prevalence of osteoporosis by continent ranges from 8% in Oceania to 26.9% in Africa. I began to wonder why the mainstreaneria together with LC-friendly nutritionists are collectively blowing the same bagpipes “More vitamin D3” well, and it dawned on me. The wrong question gives the wrong answers. The thinking is: when there is vitamin D saturation there is immunity and well-being. The conclusion: vitamin D3 is a boon. And this is the thinking that pharma expects. As is known, vitamin D3 is produced by the body under the influence of the sun, but not to have additional benefits from sunlight, but to counteract the oxidative stress that the sun's rays cause in the body. For this, calcium is needed to shield cells from oxidation. That's why vitamin D3 taps into the body's largest stores of calcium, and why so many relax in the sun and some find the sun very stimulating. The reason is simple: strong calcium saturation of the body at the expense of the bones. This is why there is such a plague of osteoporosis in Africa. Arabs are smarter covered from head to toe. It is known that before the Flood the earth was covered with a mantle of steam, which is why such a Matusalem could live 969 years. Calcium is so important for two reasons: neural conduction and protection. E.g., we have calcification of the pineal gland and many blame it on calcium. The truth is that calcium binds fluoride, which destroys the pineal gland by inactivating it. The second thing: atherosclerotic plaque. She is formed because of damage to the walls of blood vessels. The body then sends a dressing consisting of calcium along with cholesterol. When the dressing arrives at the site it is applied to the wound, dries and a scab is formed - an atherosclerotic plaque. By the way, the cause of these wounds is the consumption of rapeseed, sunflower and other oils, which oxidize quickly. I saw a study done over 50 years where they correlated carbohydrate, protein and fat intake and their effect on disease. It turned out that carbohydrate intake increased by a few percent, protein the same but seed fat intake increased by as far as I remember several hundred percent and here was a sharp increase in vascular and neurodegenerative diseases. And then there is the allegation that calcium causes kidney stones. The kidneys damage oxalates and the body sees this. It then sends calcium to bind the oxalates and so kidney stones form. That is, calcium saves the kidneys from total destruction and prevents becoming a lifelong patient of external dialysis. IMHO if a person took care of calcium saturation such diseases as parkinson's (shaking hands), alzheimer's and multiple sclerosis, reflux (malfunctioning esophageal foramen muscle) would disappear. These are all diseases that are a symptom of nerves dying, from a lack of signals reaching them from the brain to stimulate them.
If a person's mitocondria are NOT working properly, secondary to statin therapy, can that contribute to the obesity processs? In other words, do statins screw up the ability of mitochondria to burn energy for ATP production?

great info...i was taught that cortisone is the inactive, storage form of cortisol and is activated by cortisone reductase in a process that requires magnesium...also that cortisol and magnesium have an inverse relationship and that stress increases the Mg burn rate
Everything Lustig says is completely true. One of the best doctors out there. He has yet to comment on the most important health factor of all: broad spectrum Sunlight and its effect on cellular mitochondria and ATP production. And the metabolic impact of toxic LED light at night. He and his gang at Levels are several years behind the times. I hope they catch up soon! 🌞
Dr Lustig, genius. But, according to Dr Sean O'Mara, a visceral fat researcher, runners have visceral fat and keep it in place. Hard core running = huge stressor to the body, hence the visceral fat. So saying that running will rid you of said fat, seems to be at odds with Dr O.
Given a choice between a med that drops LDL 50% ( 120 to 60) butcraises blood sugar average 105 to 130, is it a net positive? Does reduced triglycerides hint at reduction in remnant cholesterol?

It’s still calories in calories out.. If you’re metabolism is impaired you just need to take in less calories.. It may not be fair.. But it doesn’t matter.. If you don’t take in excess calories you won’t be storing fat..
You are like a religious person who CANNOT listen. It's not that simple. You have to ask WHY is someone eating too many calories? You can't just tell them to eat less if they are still hungry as hell. No one can withstand a diet like that. Billions have already tried that. Tell you what I'll eat 3000 calories per day of fatty beef , and you eat 2900 calories of Cap'n Crunch and let's see who fares better .

Dr Ludwig always promote real food. And in this case he said about reducing simple carbohydrates and sugar. 😊 He's promoting NOVA System, or more commonly known as non-UPF. Always repeating it's not the food, it's what being done to the food. Low carb or even zero carb not necessary keto diet - I eat carnivore diet with zero carbs but I’m not in ketosis. If you listen to Dr.Lustig more than one interview, you would even ask the question. The fact you’re trying to confuse everyone with the terminology doesn’t make you smart - it kind of opposite. The one who can’t explain a complicated subject to a fifth grader, doesn’t understand the subject(c)

because the energy balance is difficult TO balance, with any sort of knowledge. An easy example is that low carb diets tend to lead to higher energy usage / availability, and thus you can eat more calories while still losing fat

Cut the carbs. When you lower the glucose, you lower your insulin. With low insulin, you can burn fat. I've dumped over 100 lb and reversed my T2 diabetes. 💪🏾
Now what? Fill up on protein, then mostly non-starchy veg, and some fruit if you like. Instead of eating junk food - which is low protein and usually lots of added sugar and fats.
I stayed at a particular weight for about 2 years and then stopped the cheese when I realised it was causing constipation. I lost the last 4kgs / 8.8lbs. I had stopped eating nuts quite a while back. The only thing I changed was the cheese.
It's very much related to degree of processed food intake. I would suggest basic read about NOVA system, which dr Ludwig is promoting very often. There's loads in the literature describing it, if you search for the UPF topic in most current publications. Older books would mention processed food. But the food related diseases started be noticed and described almost 100 years ago, with Weston Price research. 👌🏼 But the food environment changed soo much since then! 🤯
Unfortunately he is 100% wrong. He's jumped on the low carb bandwagon. Please explain the following. How okinawans ate a 70% carbohydrate diet, how Asians ate majority of rice, or South Americans ate mostly potatoes. All carbs. And for tens of thousands of years, there was no weight gain, no heart disease or no diabetes. It's not carbs. Almost forgot. Mexican people ate a majority of corn, which is carbs, and no weight gain.

It is called primi piatti, “first plate” because of its importance and is eaten first or solo for the large meal of the day, followed by a small meat dish (sometimes no meat) and/or a salad. You know nothing of Italy and their cuisine.

I am age 74 and have been using Functional Medicine for the past 15-years to enhance and heal my metabolic system. I have multiple Autoimmune Conditions and joint issues and mechanical physical issues that prevent me from doing heavy exercising now (after MANY years of doing extensive hiking, swimming, biking, aerobic dancing ballroom dancing AND DIETING ) I do walk my working dog a lot now and I try to eat a nutrient rich organic diet but I am still overweight according to the charts. I take care of my husband with cognitive decline and neurological issues - ALL BY MYSELF, our condo, our rescue dog and quite frankly I don't have the extra energy and the stamina to exercise heavily these days. I just don't have it in me. I eat two meals per day ( grass fed meat and vegetables) and then I fast.
I get it. At 66 doing many of the best things, stuff just starts to go south. Let's both hang in there, keep growing & learning, and trying!!

LOVE Dr Lustig, a genius! BUT, the individual does share some responsibility for their obesity, health and everything in their life. Yes, some things are beyond our control. But come on, for the most part, everything that happens in our lives is of our own doing. Living life and taking personal responsibility leads to a happier life. Believe it or not. I was overweight, changed my life lost the 50 lb and I'm far healthier. Why was I 50 lb overweight? It was entirely my fault, my diet, my activity levels, and work related stress, that I created. I'm sorry we must be accountable for our behaviors and their outcomes. To blame it all on a biochemical and insulin demon, which is correct, but what triggers that? Your diet and your activity levels. And that is on you.

How ever as a insulin dependent diabetic، due to forgetting your teachings after few days and damage all goods I have done.
I have now chosen to cut all carbohydrate in take and only eat green vegtabls، green apples، fish، chicken and red meat once each day، about 3.00 pm also nuts، tea، coffee and boiled eggs if hungry in between during the day time hours.
I carry a Libra 2 arm attached glucose moniter.

I used a levels CGM for 12 months and then eventually went high fat carnivore because I noticed eating that way made my glucose so stable. I’m now doing therapeutic ketosis to keep my migraines in remission and have to use a ketone meter for that. I hope everyone can use a Levels CGM along their health journey because they make a huge difference as everyone is so different! I hope they come out with a continuous ketone monitor next to be used! I have also found the Metabolic Mind channel to be extremely helpful too.

The secret to body health. It takes little or only one. Man is a mammal therefore his bodily development begins with the suckling of his mother's milk. This is the model food for man for his entire life. It is generally known that breast milk contains: water, protein, fat, some carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Everyone focuses on protein, fat and carbohydrates as the main components of energy. These are all necessary but no one asks the question of what is needed to provide electrical impulses to the muscles. It is calcium. Smooth muscle fibers are found in the walls of hollow visceral organs such as the liver, pancreas and intestines. The heart is one big muscle. Skeletal muscle fibers are found in muscles that are attached to the skeleton. Calcium enables muscles to function properly, including contraction and diastole, which is necessary for every movement, every heartbeat, every movement of the intestines, pancreas and liver. As we know, the muscle that can never stop is the heart. So the brain will always consider it a priority to get calcium ions to the heart muscle. There is a widespread belief that calcium is mainly needed for building bones. And this is the biggest lie that is publicly presented. It is enough to ask a basic question: if calcium is used mainly for bone building, why does the body prefer to endure bone and joint pain due to osteoporosis, why can it even allow bone fractures due to weakening of bones so that a person cannot move to look for food? Why does it prefer to suck all the calcium out of the teeth exposing a person to digestive problems due to lack of chewing food (for the body, an artificial jaw does not exist). Now that we know that this is a fact, the second question is: where is the calcium so important if the body robs the bones and joints of it? Well, the priority is precisely the continuous work of the heart. Then the work of the limbs and organs that have muscles. The conclusion is clear that bones are an iron reservoir of calcium, which must always be on hand. That bones are a storehouse is evidenced by the fact that they can knit together, that is, rebuild their structure with calcium. It is a storehouse for issuing and receiving calcium. Daily standards for calcium intake: women aged 19-50 years - 1000 mg, women aged >51 years - 1200 mg, men aged 19-65 years - 1000 mg, men aged >66 years - 1200 mg, pregnancy and lactation 50 years of age - 2000 mg/day. These are, of course, averaged values but are quite authoritative. Thus, any lower supply of calcium to the body means tapping into reserves in the bones. That's why many elderly people already have depleted calcium stores and suffer from a variety of bone disorders: fractures, back pain, joint pain, dental cavities. It also has a great impact on the psyche. I would argue that addiction to all stimulants such as coffee, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, addiction to emotional sensations, sports, sex are masking low access to energy. We consume energy in abundance yet our transmission network is inefficient. Therefore, the body seeks moments when it is not at such low energy levels. For example, how does coffee work? When it is in the blood it has the property of abundantly pulling calcium out of the muscles and letting it circulate through the circulatory system. Then one feels arousal because the main internal organs have temporary full access to energy while some muscles do not, and that is why they may tremble, for example, hands or eyelids because there are disruptions in the contraction and diastole of muscles that lack calcium. Some say that coffee leaches magnesium and that's why there are these tremors. Nothing could be further from the truth. Coffee per balance provides more magnesium than it excretes due to its diuretic nature. So homeostasis or energy balance must be restored in the body so that it begins to function properly. When the human body is saturated with calcium it will not seek more sensations. It will not throw itself on carbohydrates - a source of quick energy. The need for energy in general will decrease and stimulants will become unattractive. Then you can even risk saying: take care of your calcium levels and eat what you want. This is because nature enters its proper rotation and selects for itself what it needs in the right amounts. That's when you get back to the right weight and proper fitness. And what are the best sources of calcium? Dairy products are known for their high amounts of calcium, however, consuming them is associated with more or less of a problem of mucus formation in the body as an immune response so they should not be the main source of calcium. In my opinion, the best source of calcium is eggshell. One whole eggshell weighing 6g contains 2g of calcium, which is exactly the highest tolerable intake of calcium for adults over 50 years of age.
, and half a shell provides the total daily calcium requirement. Shells are best eaten raw and with the peel in which there is collagen to preserve all the biological values of the shell, ground or crushed for better absorption (wash off or avoid the paint from the stamp marking the origin of the egg). If you cannot tolerate eggshell, you can supplement calcium with calcium citrate, which is a relatively inexpensive supplement. This citrate does not cause constipation and is well absorbed. If you're concerned about vitamin D3, the issue is simple. I began to wonder why the mainstreaneria together with LC-friendly nutritionists are collectively blowing the same bagpipes “More vitamin D3” well, and it dawned on me. The wrong question gives the wrong answers. The thinking is: when there is vitamin D saturation there is immunity and well-being. The conclusion: vitamin D3 is a boon. And this is the thinking that pharma expects. As is known, vitamin D3 is produced by the body under the influence of the sun, but not to have additional benefits from sunlight, but to counteract the oxidative stress that the sun's rays cause in the body. For this, calcium is needed to shield cells from oxidation. That's why vitamin D3 taps into the body's largest stores of calcium, and why so many relax in the sun and some find the sun very stimulating. The reason is simple: strong calcium saturation of the body at the expense of the bones. This is why there is such a plague of osteoporosis in Africa. Arabs are smarter covered from head to toe. It is known that before the Flood the earth was covered with a mantle of steam, which is why such a Matusalem could live 969 years. Calcium is so important for two reasons: neural conduction and protection. E.g., we have calcification of the pineal gland and many blame it on calcium. The truth is that calcium binds fluoride, which destroys the pineal gland by inactivating it. The second thing: atherosclerotic plaque. She is formed because of damage to the walls of blood vessels. The body then sends a dressing consisting of calcium along with cholesterol. When the dressing arrives at the site it is applied to the wound, dries and a scab is formed - an atherosclerotic plaque. By the way, the cause of these wounds is the consumption of rapeseed, sunflower and other oils, which oxidize quickly. I saw a study done over 50 years where they correlated carbohydrate, protein and fat intake and their effect on disease. It turned out that carbohydrate intake increased by a few percent, protein the same but seed fat intake increased by as far as I remember several hundred percent and here was a sharp increase in vascular and neurodegenerative diseases. And then there is the allegation that calcium causes kidney stones. The kidneys damage oxalates and the body sees this. It then sends calcium to bind the oxalates and so kidney stones form. That is, calcium saves the kidneys from total destruction and prevents becoming a lifelong patient of external dialysis. IMHO if a person took care of calcium saturation such diseases as parkinson's (shaking hands), alzheimer's and multiple sclerosis, reflux (malfunctioning esophageal foramen muscle) would disappear. These are all diseases that are a symptom of nerves dying, from a lack of signals reaching them from the brain to stimulate them.

great info...i was taught that cortisone is the inactive, storage form of cortisol and is activated by cortisone reductase in a process that requires magnesium...also that cortisol and magnesium have an inverse relationship and that stress increases the Mg burn rate

Dr Lustig, genius. But, according to Dr Sean O'Mara, a visceral fat researcher, runners have visceral fat and keep it in place. Hard core running = huge stressor to the body, hence the visceral fat. So saying that running will rid you of said fat, seems to be at odds with Dr O.
fasted running/activity without high carb recovery meals immediately afterwards does reduce visceral fat
Given a choice between a med that drops LDL 50% ( 120 to 60) butcraises blood sugar average 105 to 130, is it a net positive? Does reduced triglycerides hint at reduction in remnant cholesterol?

You can't just tell them to eat less if they are still hungry as hell. No one can withstand a diet like that. Billions have already tried that. Tell you what I'll eat 3000 calories per day of fatty beef , and you eat 2900 calories of Cap'n Crunch and let's see who fares better .

Keto is 75-80% calories from fat and only 5-10% from carbs - the rest is protein.
Low carb or even zero carb not necessary keto diet - I eat carnivore diet with zero carbs but I’m not in ketosis.
If you listen to Dr.Lustig more than one interview, you would even ask the question.

because the energy balance is difficult TO balance, with any sort of knowledge. An easy example is that low carb diets tend to lead to higher energy usage / availability, and thus you can eat more calories while still losing fat

Cut the carbs. When you lower the glucose, you lower your insulin. With low insulin, you can burn fat. I've dumped over 100 lb and reversed my T2 diabetes. 💪🏾
Now what? Fill up on protein, then mostly non-starchy veg, and some fruit if you like. Instead of eating junk food - which is low protein and usually lots of added sugar and fats.
Era real food. Work on keeping your stress low and exercise.
I stayed at a particular weight for about 2 years and then stopped the cheese when I realised it was causing constipation. I lost the last 4kgs / 8.8lbs. I had stopped eating nuts quite a while back. The only thing I changed was the cheese.

I would suggest basic read about NOVA system, which dr Ludwig is promoting very often.
There's loads in the literature describing it, if you search for the UPF topic in most current publications. Older books would mention processed food. But the food related diseases started be noticed and described almost 100 years ago, with Weston Price research. 👌🏼 But the food environment changed soo much since then! 🤯

Unfortunately he is 100% wrong. He's jumped on the low carb bandwagon. Please explain the following. How okinawans ate a 70% carbohydrate diet, how Asians ate majority of rice, or South Americans ate mostly potatoes. All carbs. And for tens of thousands of years, there was no weight gain, no heart disease or no diabetes. It's not carbs.
Almost forgot. Mexican people ate a majority of corn, which is carbs, and no weight gain.
Lustig is anti-sugar specifically. All these groups you mention have become sick since refined sugar's introduction.

It is called primi piatti, “first plate” because of its importance and is eaten first or solo for the large meal of the day, followed by a small meat dish (sometimes no meat) and/or a salad. You know nothing of Italy and their cuisine.
