I’d say about 20 years ago I started getting into benchmade knives. A couple individuals told me to get a 940. At that time I thought it was the ugliest knife I’ve ever seen. Today I own every model the 940-3 is on its way. I have several other makes and models and knives. I carry them all (not at the same time) for a couple days and I always come back to the 940. It’s easy to see why this has been around so long and is my hands down favorite edc. I paid $270 for this version which I think is a bit high but buy once cry once. I have the carbon fiber version which was even a bit more in cost. Oddly my 940-2 which is the green back spacer version you show is my smoothest operating 940.

I also like the DLC battle worn finish. Magnacut is one of my favorite steels since it holds an edge so well and it is highly corrosion resistant. I have always had a findness for genuine copper, but this burnt copper colored aluminum is very easy on the eyes too. Plus it won't tarnish like copper and it is more light weight.

Hi G&G - Another excellent review! I totally understand and agree with what you are saying about the Benchmade 940 Osbourne - Even though I've been a huge BM fan for many years, I still do not have a 940 for the same reasons you said. The handle and blade are just too narrow to me in terms of height of the blade and grip circumference. I've always felt a tinge of "what's wrong with me" because everyone raves about the 940 being the ultimate EDC blade. That being said, THIS VERSION IS SO COOL!! I FINALLY added the 940 to my wishlist - the burnt copper handle, the battle wash blade finish, and the CPM MagnaCut steel is just such a good looking and quality combo! I've also warmed up the the sheepsfoot blade shape (Ahem! I mean "Reverse Tanto"!😅) Now I'm glad I held out for this version of the 940! Similarly, I don't have any Chris Reeve knives yet (because of the price - even though I've wanted one for years), but now they are making the Sebenza in Magnacut, so I'm glad I waited!!

Very nice review. It’s a great that they moved to MagnaCut, and while people always complain about their prices this release seems to add a bit of value back to the 940. I’m not sure how much better it will be in normal use than S30V of the base 940, but there will be many that care and I’m sure to a degree that I would too (although I have no plans to buy another one). In the very early 2000’s I acquired a 941 clip point, followed by a 940, both in CPM154. Great knives that I still use and have all of the packing and material. A number of years ago I added a ZT 0609 in 20CV. Then last year I purchased a PJ Small Sebenza 31 in MagnaCut. The steel has been impressive and it is an impressive EDC. I thought it would be my last knife purchase for the foreseeable future, but as everyone says will happen couldn’t help myself and two weeks ago added a large 31 Knife Art exclusive with full carbon show scale. At 3.7 ounces it carries like the small. I enjoy having the large and small, as I have uses for each but have yet to feel “under knifed” with the small.
I do think I’m done now for the foreseeable future. But we all know how that goes. That said, I do really like the CRK Small/large rotation and think it is a logical place to land.

My 945 is my favorite edc. It took the place of my 940. I’ll carry a larger knife only if I think I’ll need it. I’d love to have this magnacut version, but the s30v is good enough.

I just received my full size Osborne in Burnt Orange. It’s my new favorite knife & my EDC now. Amazing knife.
