I had a custom mini crooked made. Everything was perfect and was my favorite knife I’ve ever had. Had to sell it when I needed funds and haven’t been able to replace it. I miss that guy
I got the full size through the custom program… red scales and some other little details that make it “mine.” I like partially serrated blades…. I actually do need to cut some cord or rope occasionally. I called Benchmade twice, trying customer service initially and then later getting through to a product manager…. No matter how much I begged they would not add partial serrations to it “because the Crooked River doesn’t come that way.” So somehow I found a cutlery shop in California (I’m on the east coast) who would grind the serrations for me. So after receiving my custom Crooked River I sent it to Cali. And now I have what I assume is a one-of-a-kind Crooked Riber and I love it. I also have a Grip and a Mini Grip and I love them too. I travel to a foreign country where the Mini Grip is a better size for the circumstances…. I consider it my city knife. I also have 3 Microtechs OTF’s plus an MTX-2 (auto side-folder) and of course they are a lot of fun to carry too.
I have a dozen Benchmade knives and love them, but at their current pricing I'd probably have a lot less of them. I use the Griptilian and Bugout the most of the bunch. I consider the Griptilion with its plastic handle made for function over use and hole opener as an honorary Spyderco knife.
Benchmade helped me buy a knife once. I made the mistake of having my wife with me at the knife store and I was going to buy a Buck Mini Spitfire. She looked at the price and said "$30, that seems like a lot for a pocket knife". I knew pointing out the $200 I had spent on that one pair of fancy boots last year. You know, the ones she had only worn twice. That was not going to sway her to my side, and was probably going to start a big fight. So, I just pointed to the $320 Benchmade knife a little further over in the display case. Suddenly she didn't mind me spending $30 on a pocket knife.
I can't believe it! You didn't cover any of their HRC/heat treating and how Benchmade charges an added tax JUST for the butterfly stamp/etching 😂. This was quintessential AKB, suffering from "Nth stage knife collecting". Good work, and you always bring a smile.✌️🤙
I have no desire to buy anything from Benchmade, but I love your cutting humor, so I’ll listen to most nearly anything you make. 😄 Also, I think it’s fair to say that Benchmade isn’t inflating their prices but are committing price gouging, tho I’m fairly quick to call the dramatic increases in price we’ve seen for half a decade now price gouging. 🙃
Love my 417, its half the height of a 535 and fits so nicely into a crowded pocket, it flicks open with authority, and drops free like a guillotine. I put some extended thumb studs on it for a griptilian and it's perfect now for my XL hands.
The mini presidio 2 is not discontinued as far as I can tell. The black coated half serrated version that you have is though The mini presidio 2 has CF Elite, which is proprietary to Benchmade. It's like a mix of carbon fiber and polymer
Benchmade still gets the juices flowing in the community, just not the same juices that they used to bring out of the community 5 years ago. I’ve only bought benchmades at prices that I felt they were worth. Around 2020 $140 for a benchmade 202 leuku and $190 for a super-freek were pretty reasonable for the quality of knife, since then I’ve only bought them from REI’s closeout sales that are like 30% below MAP or more.
My purchasing history is almost identical to yours...my last BM purchase was an Adamas auto that I love. I probably own 45 Benchmades, but at their crazy current pricing I will not be buying any more Benchmades any time soon.
Thank you, sir, you provide a valuable service to those of us prone to push the absolute limits of a knife or tool just because we can, and occasionally we even learn something new about said knife or tool...as we bleed in our beer.
It was a good, honest run-down on a range of their blades. I've only owned an Ozbourne (abt $300can, now?) and I'm pretty attached to it. Sturdy with crisp action and the S30V steel holds a sharp edge. Got one sent to my Dad and he refuses to use it, because they left the price on the box and he figures he'll just lose it. They're pricey.
I like how you present your knives. Like a real dude who collects knives. I want to talk about the chisel grind. You need to use a stone or other flat sharpener. Only sharpen the bevel edge. Go till you feel a burr(20 -17 degrees is best). Strop the flat edge(slightly angled like 3 -5 degrees) to meet the bevel and smooth out the burr. Strop bevel at the same angle you used on the stone( this will smooth out any nicks or inconsistencies in your edge). I agree that is a shit otf by the way and chisel grinds are stupid unless its a Japanese chef knife
Hot take 🔥 I think most Titanium knives look boring. I know titanium is awesome and has a huge following but the bland titanium gray reminds me of the MCUs big gray villain phase. 😅
Maybe the knife community can interest you in some S90V w/ Carbon Fibre? 😂 I laugh because I’ve bought a couple CF Spyderco knives like that for some of my close work friends, it’s definitely a knife category of its own.
Black Friday deal for the Grip led me to this channel probably 3-4 years ago. I got one in S30V with the same orange handle 👍 it was probably about $90, I think regular price was north of 120 at the time. I also found a mini grip. The 20cv model with grey and blue G10 scales and blue spacers, like it as well. Most valuable thing I've ever found, followed by $20 bill here and there. Not a big collector, maybe have 6 knives between those, a Leatherman, couple Moras, and a Case. One Spyderco and I'd feel fully set.
I had a real problem buying way too many benchmade knives. Had been on the hunt for the discontinued Doug Ritter blade shape griptilian. Then I bought a Super Freek (which has the Doug Ritter blade on it, but in M4, G10 scales, etc.) and it was the last knife I’ve bought, several years ago. Been my daily driver since.

Benchmade was my favorite production knife for a looooong time, don't even know how many I have at this point. But I've gotten to that "what does it all mean" point of collecting and have been thinking about selling a bunch of them off. I mostly carry fixed blades these days anyways.
Always glad to see a notification that Knife Bro made a new video. I still go watch an old video almost every night... helps me sleep! Hahaha love your content!!
I’ve enjoyed your videos for years, and it’s your witty writing and outstanding production & editing that always keep me coming back. These days, I’ve come to really appreciate the perspective of a fellow knife bro that’s further along in the progression of being less excited by novelty and marketing because we kinda know what we like. There are just too many knives and knife companies to give a shit about all of them. Not saying we’re jaded old farts, just… advanced. Knife bros. Which is your handle. Yep, it took me all those words to get to that. Anyway, viva Disco San Andreas baby.
It’s an ancient design, but the (sadly discontinued) BM710 is still among my most carried knives and still remains one of my favourites - since I bought it way back in like 2002. The 530 Pardue remains a favorite as well. I also have a 1st Gen Nimravus I carried on deployment. Honestly though these days except for the Osborne and Claymore OTF Benchmade hasn’t impressed me much in recent years (sorry Griptilian fans but I don’t like the design at all and think it and the minigrip are the most overhyped mediocre folders out there). Benchmade prices have become ridiculous too. In terms of collecting I mostly moved to vintage stuff, and Italian stilettos (switchblades) both traditional and tactical. Think Lelle Floris, Frank Beltrame, AGA Campolin, Latama, Piscitti, etc… But it’s not just my changing taste, Benchmade’s been mostly uninspired and overpriced for some years now IMO. Great blades are now more the exception than the rule. No doubt I’ll get heat for that, but I’ve been into knives since the 1980s and just calling it how I see it.
Thanks!! I was not aware, but will check it out asap. I collect knives but not Benchmade in particular, so I don’t really keep up with their releases or anything. IMO the 710 was such an excellent all purpose “tac/tility” design I never understood why it got discontinued. I agree on the sticker shock. BM were never cheap -- I always felt fairly priced for their quality though -- but these days they’ve adopted the HK ethos of -"fuck you"- I mean "prestige pricing", as their marketing strategy. I think I paid $150 for my first 710 c2002, and $175 for a 2nd coated blade version around '09. Can’t wait to see what this Seven Ten costs… EDIT: Ok, less than I expected. The Limited ones are overpriced to the point of being a blatant ripoff though. Also what the hell is with BM's obsession with turquoise these days? The machining pattern is ok I guess, but I'll take the classic black textured G10 scales over _turquoise aluminum_ any day. G10 is inert and virtually indestructible; I dislike aluminum on working knives since they tend to have slippery anodizing and get dented/scuffed/scratched/gouged extremely easily. *At that price it should seriously be titanium ffs*
New merch! My “I don’t hate benchmade knives” shirt is raising a lot of questions already answered by the shirt. Your capitalism analysis was spot on too, my dude
Always enjoyed your content AKB…..knife collecting is stalling out for a lot of folks. The economy just doesn’t warrant it anymore. “Stay Classy, AKB”!!
Word. I live in ATL and work within walking distance of the Blade Show venue. I'm not going this year. I've been the last four shows but this time just seems....like Already have enough knives. $30 to get into the biggest knife store on the planet ain't bad. But I'll just wind up spending another $300 - $400 cuz I feel like I should as a knife guy. Maybe I'll go tomorrow.
I have a custom Crooked River I bought about 5 years ago that has yet to be dethroned as a favorite and an edc. Your Stump Lifter has joined it in the pocket, though.
Hey knife bro, good to see some more shit from one of my favorites- my first Benchmade was the 940 REI exclusive My Bugout was only $99 just about 4 years ago or so Thanks again for the videos, you’re the best
I think they're discontinuing the Griptillian, had to pick one up for $100 and justify spending $40 for a nice aluminum scales to make it collection worthy 😂. Also have a 20cv Bugout, probably the one knife I'd keep if I had to get rid of all but one of the 30+ knives I own. BUT their MSRP are straight dumb .. never pay that
Benchmade really dropped the ball by not continuing to provide you review samples. Not sure how many times I watched your Fact review, but pretty sure it was more than twice. I already owed a couple of Benchmade knives at the time and would not have checked out the Fact but for your video. If Benchmade thought you were too irreverent in your review of the Fact they obviously did not understand how we Adv.Knife.Bros justify our discretionary purchases to ourselves and our long suffering spouses... Benchmade reps need to read some Zizek on ideology. Whatever you decide to do with your channel, thank you for the years of entertainment. You rock.
Grandpa tells the wildest stories. Thank you for that. Wish Benchmade would remake/re-release Nimravus. The most frustrating one is the Anthem. Really annoying this stuff sells and the demand is high but still isn’t coming back. I love benchmade but have other stuff. The new 710 is sick looking and I hate that I want it but the limited release and price of the $1500 just bummed me out. It looks amazing but then the price combined with it selling out. I wish you’d reach I he to Holt and get a Morpheus or the other ones. I think it could reignite the fire again. They look amazing.
@@flapxjackson Yeah the black handle with the bronze blade like some of last year’s models. It’s nice but not as cool looking. Or a raw aluminum one? I forget.
I hate that UA-cam didn’t show me these in feed. OTOH I don’t subscribe to anything, so I suck. Back in the day I wanted a Benchmade DPT Rant Bowie. Because I always prefer fixed blades. Anyway, that’s my One That Got Away.
The bugout is my daily driver. Love it, light, deep sitting, plenty durable and strong. For people that just need to cut stuff and don't desire an Ed Hardy meets Steam Punk bastard child.
same. thin blade works for me. the only benchmade i've kept. had a REI coupon that came in hot 5-6(?) years ago. don't know if could justify the current price. i agree it's soulless out the box but i swapped out for rockscale design scales and the patina/wear has added the charm that was missing.
I don’t really care about slip joint “walk and talk” so I’ve liked using/carrying my proper…the Tom Krein regrind is on the list to make it more slicey though(I’m in the habit of carrying a “regular” knife for normal tasks and a harder use knife so I can do whatever is needed without feeling guilty for misusing a tool in a pinch). I have sold a few Benchmades to buy something I like better though, they were better/cooler and less generic 20yrs ago
I have both versions of the AFCK, but I love them both. It just may the perfect pocket knife. Its a monster, but works fairly casual in public unless you really want to wave it around!!
I feel like a majority of Benchmades over the years are just griptilians that put a different outfit on, gotta keep milking that cow i guess. My last one was the 707 sequel after it was discontinued because I always wanted it. I could have just bought aluminum scales for my mini grip for less money overall and had the same knife. I don't regret it, I still like the knife but the point still stands. I didn't care for the bugout, griptilians still better. The crooked river is definitely a baddass looking knife but I thought it was too expensive before price creep started taking hold. So basically my opinion is to just get a full and a mini grip and that concludes the benchmade portion of your collection.
This comment is pretty spot on. Most Benchmades have become a neutral handled drop point. They all look pretty similar. I think the last Benchmade I bought was the Shot Show edition mini Adamas a couple of years ago. Since then, nothing they’ve put out has excited me.
Been watching your videos on and off for years now. I'm also in late-stage knife collecting and my collection has gotten smaller, not larger. I think I have a Benchmade 940 left but I sold all the other ones. Mostly overprices, basic pocket knives. Soulless, as you said. You and I are too advanced for that shit.
I ignored all of the noise about Benchmade fit and finish around 2017 or so and bought a 20CV Mini Grip. I should have returned it or sold it because that knife is all wrong for me. I bought the Mini Grip to replace a Delica that I gave to my wife. I miss that knife, but I feel like I can't ask for it back because she was so excited about it.
Benchmade probably has the most noise out of any brand. They make good knives and also they make weird decisions. If you find a winner and can get a good deal that’s the sweet spot
You’re obviously dead inside with a Benchmade video 😂 just kidding you know I love you man regardless, I love the old ganzo videos, and you and I may be the only two people to trumpet 🎺 the Caribbean, really is an ultimate user ……great video
The original Adams’s 275bk. My favorite. Next would be the casbah auto. 940 up there. Honestly tho. In todays knife market Benchmade can’t even compete. Their prices are too high. There’s no value at all. I wouldn’t even buy one today.
Benchmade’s “price creep” gives me negative feelings about the brand itself, but also is killing my interest in modern folders all together. BUT I do thank Benchmade for rekindling my interest in Case and other traditional USA made pocket knives; its almost an entirely different hobby.
No plans currently exist to do another run. It’s ultimately up to BladeHq since they paid for the run and I’m just the designer. They’ve been showing up occasionally at Blade forums, r/knife_swap, and eBay. Set up alerts for eBay seems to be the best way currently.
I’m one of those dummies that can’t be bothered to sell anything. My drawers of misfit knives are handy to have around at times. And while I can’t seem to remember a name to save my life, I could quote what I paid for 99% the knives I have and get within ten bucks of the other one percent. And state the Tubers who “Influenced” each one...The Knife Bro name is burned into my brain...Weird
940 is a classic for sure,!! I bought the auto with the black blade and I love it. I keep my original (1995+-) but I use the hell out of the auto. It's a beast!!
I feel I may not be advanced enough because I don't have that many Benchmades. Also I have not batoned with Benchmade yet. Can a knife bro who is advanced give some advice/encouragement?
guys please help me out, got a pm 2 salt with minor blade centering issues - sold out in eu...should i get rid of it for the retail price??!?!?!?? i have a brisa trooper 115 on target with 20% off from the maker itself!!

If you weren’t aware, Benchmade has updated the 710 with new materials and renamed it the Seven Ten. Be prepared for sticker shock.
Can’t wait to see what this Seven Ten costs…
EDIT: Ok, less than I expected.
I heard the Buffalo River and my ears perked up. I live in NW Arkansas myself. Nice video!
New merch! My “I don’t hate benchmade knives” shirt is raising a lot of questions already answered by the shirt.
Your capitalism analysis was spot on too, my dude
I saved up and splashed out on their Puuko, in butter soft 3v. The stench of regret and disappointment still lingers
Glad you’re back. Was starting to wonder.
Hey knife bro, good to see some more shit from one of my favorites- my first Benchmade was the 940 REI exclusive
My Bugout was only $99 just about 4 years ago or so
Thanks again for the videos, you’re the best
AKB, you are a gem !!! Great reviews !!!
keep the entertainment rolling ... always makes me smile - regardless of content.
The presidio scale material is the CF elite on that one. Some of the other models had aluminum. I sold mine but it was a decent knife
Aluminium scales on the first model and 154CM ste- …oh. Christ, I’ve turned into one of _those_ guys, haven’t I‽ Where has this dark path taken me..?
I am really happy for you guys
Glad to see you, AKB!!!!!
WELCOME BACK FOO
My top 3:
Mini grip (first knife)
G10 Osborne 940-2
Mini Presidio II
Love all 3 here but handled more and don't really care for a lot of other ones
nice to see you batoning benchmades again
You rock.
Thank you so much!!!!
I have the Benchmade - 591BK Boost pry-knife & it's a great blade!
If you’re not aware, there’ll be a production Seven Ten. MAP is coming in at $405 for aluminium and S90V. Still overpriced in my book.
That particular Presidio 2 is actually in cf elite, not aluminum. It's still a good material though, for sure.
My Presidio 1 is still one of my favourite knives.
It’s a relevant comment but not necessarily a compelling comment.
I've been carrying my Benchmade AFCK (806) this week.
Sounds very reasonable
This comment is pretty spot on. Most Benchmades have become a neutral handled drop point. They all look pretty similar. I think the last Benchmade I bought was the Shot Show edition mini Adamas a couple of years ago. Since then, nothing they’ve put out has excited me.
I have a bugout, I carry it a lot and I like it but it does have the feel of an item bought from a quarter machine at the local Kmart.
Interesting, no Anthem. It's like a better 940, after you replace the pocket clip... Axis lock without the Omega spring is fantastic.
Never found a good price on one, and decided I didn't want to borrow one. Always wanted one though.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro That is a fair point, although it is a Benchmade so the excessive prices are to be expected.
Have you tried the persido ii in cf elite
...love mine pretty tough no soy. Full size.
Awesome video man!
Cant hate on anyone hating the bugout. But i cannot hate on the bugout either. Just hating on benchmade for the price. My favorite knife? Bugout..
Kudos to the research department
Been watching your videos on and off for years now. I'm also in late-stage knife collecting and my collection has gotten smaller, not larger. I think I have a Benchmade 940 left but I sold all the other ones. Mostly overprices, basic pocket knives. Soulless, as you said. You and I are too advanced for that shit.
Your tepid attitude keeps me coming back. Don't change man.
Benchmade CLA is my favorite out the side auto
I ignored all of the noise about Benchmade fit and finish around 2017 or so and bought a 20CV Mini Grip. I should have returned it or sold it because that knife is all wrong for me. I bought the Mini Grip to replace a Delica that I gave to my wife. I miss that knife, but I feel like I can't ask for it back because she was so excited about it.
Benchmade probably has the most noise out of any brand. They make good knives and also they make weird decisions. If you find a winner and can get a good deal that’s the sweet spot
Time for a narrows, it's really great just find a deal
Terrific review. Vrry grounded. No bullshit. Thanks
"Pagans too; generally as a rule, are not very tactical" The kind of insight only AKB delivers.
You’re obviously dead inside with a Benchmade video 😂 just kidding you know I love you man regardless, I love the old ganzo videos, and you and I may be the only two people to trumpet 🎺 the Caribbean, really is an ultimate user ……great video
It’s my beach go to salt water knife.
I dont run with scissors but im glad i can get a naked woods dancing knife. THANKS
So glad I found you. You’re hilarious, man!
Welcome aboard!
Lucky I got in on the ground floor of the Stump Lifter
My fav BM is an upgraded M390 552
The original Adams’s 275bk. My favorite. Next would be the casbah auto. 940 up there. Honestly tho. In todays knife market Benchmade can’t even compete. Their prices are too high. There’s no value at all. I wouldn’t even buy one today.
Benchmade’s “price creep” gives me negative feelings about the brand itself, but also is killing my interest in modern folders all together.
BUT I do thank Benchmade for rekindling my interest in Case and other traditional USA made pocket knives; its almost an entirely different hobby.
BHQ can’t give me an update on when they may have stump lifters again. Do you know if they’re ever going to be produced again?
No plans currently exist to do another run. It’s ultimately up to BladeHq since they paid for the run and I’m just the designer. They’ve been showing up occasionally at Blade forums, r/knife_swap, and eBay. Set up alerts for eBay seems to be the best way currently.
Closing in on 100k subscribers!
I live for the clips of you just destroying logs with flippy knifes
Funny and honest. Subbed
Thank you for the video!
I want a sequel...
and I want it soon.
Because Holes & Spiders are kooler ( yeah...with a "k") than butterflies & knobby dinguses.
I'm really not a fan of benchmade. My favorite knife is the 940.
940 is a classic for sure,!! I bought the auto with the black blade and I love it. I keep my original (1995+-) but I use the hell out of the auto. It's a beast!!
0:47 Did anyone else notice the deadlock batoning?
I feel I may not be advanced enough because I don't have that many Benchmades. Also I have not batoned with Benchmade yet. Can a knife bro who is advanced give some advice/encouragement?
Baton that shit dude. Start out with a little stick first.
guys please help me out, got a pm 2 salt with minor blade centering issues - sold out in eu...should i get rid of it for the retail price??!?!?!?? i have a brisa trooper 115 on target with 20% off from the maker itself!!
