Same-sex marriage was beyond even the most progressive queer couple’s conception. No-fault divorce was still a brand new idea. The world has changed remarkably in the last 50 years.

Today's popular music makes no sense to the older generations (born before 1970 - make that 1980). Abba turned out to be excellent song-writers, in a language not their birth one. The best artists can do that - and they know more than most that to screech and sing any old word, just because they have been informed they are talented, is a detrimental to their credibility as artists. But too often the industry just ploughs up the language, making their output less and less memorable as the years roll by. So no, of Abba could have sung out any old word, they would have been terrible.

Hey @Joseph Kirono, me too! It was always Abba that could get my 5 year old self spinning around and around in our living room, over anyone else's music. And I think this song is starting to become my favourite. It also feels like a little insight into their lives at that time... So glad they came out with Voyage, even though they say that's it! :) So sad my Mom got rid of all her Abba records!

ABBA at their very best. The pure concentrate of their work. Lyngstad and Fältskog has got the best harmonizing voices in the history of popular music. And even the metaphors in the lyrics are great.
"The album" is probably ABBA's masterpiece, at least as regards its complexity, variety of sounds and musical achievements. And this songs really stands out, it reminds me of a classic Burt Bacharach song.

Tons of ABBA songs were hits in countries that the US and UK do not pay attention too. Nobody in America cared about Turkey, Kenya, Japan, Russia, Latin America, Middle East, Poland, etc... ABBA were global and did not need the American market. Massive amount of hits all over the world that the west has no idea about. The world was a better judge of ABBA'a huge success than the American market. The Americans were way behind every one in the world.
