I STILL love Mike Nesmith- he wrote to me and sent me signed gifts a few times ove the years he was an absolute love, for sure! I treasure my letter from him! Check out Mickey making wacky faces at Davey Jones in the beginning of the song right after Davey stands up. I cannot help but laughing every time. Dolenz was and still is funny as hell!!
And this was the song that many other artists rejected. Even David Jones didn't want to sing it. But it became one of their 3 number one world wide hits. Go figure.

Looking back with the mind of an adult and musician, the boys were really given a ticket to stardom and had a fuckton of good songs to work with. RIP Michael, thank you for bringing joy into my childhood as I struggle with life's trials. You plus the other Monkees made me forget what was happening. You gave me peace and rest for a short while as I enjoyed the show on Saturday morning.
I'm sorry to hear you had an unhappy childhood. Absolutely no child should be put through anything but love. I'm glad the Monkees could free you if only for a while x

Hey madam/sir, I'm Gen X (1973) and I vaguely remember seeing some of The Monkeys' shows on re-run channels, and I just loved them. I'm re-visiting some of their songs and remembering their own magic. They are/were really talented for their time, and I'm glad they are still people from your generation reveling in their music, still. Cheers :)
I’m right there with you Marina, I was born in ‘71 and I loved The Monkees through reruns of their TV show. This song always makes me feel good, brings me back to the late 70’s. Where has the time gone to…?
We used to rush home from primary school to watch these guys, because they were so cool at the time. They were a great band, and their music was ideal for television. ❤😊
RIP Micheal Nesmith. Believe it or not, back in the 80s they were still showing reruns of the Monkees on Saturday mornings after cartoons. What a treat. Kids who stream will never understand nor the satisfaction of Saturday mornings.
Yep. RIP Mike Nesmith, Peter Tork and Davy Jones. God bless you, Micky Dolenz. I also remember Saturday mornings watching 'The Monkees' in the early 80's reruns. Heck of a theme tune.
Amazing!I can hear and SEE this now! I am a 66-year-old Japanese woman, and I loved The Monkees Sow when I was a little girl. Daydream Believer has been one of my favorite songs for the past 50-60 years!
Hi there, I like to sing Daydream Believer at Karaoki here at the Skegness resort in the UK but one day I would like to visit Japan and sing in Karaoki there for you. I'm a 69 yr old English man.
Never heard this song before my auntie Jeans funeral, it was her song as her coffin was carried, and it was so beautiful. The lyric ''Cheer up sleepy Jean'' will always get me, that was the only lyric I comprehended at her funeral, and every time I listen to this song it reminds me of her. Its such a cheerful song, and she was such a wonderful, cheerful person. This is a beautiful piece of music for me to remember my auntie Jean, it suits her so well 💕💕
I had a sister Jeannie, and she loved "Daydream Believer", too. I think she really liked the fact that Davy Jones was the lead vocalist in it. She, too, was greatly loved and was a beautiful person. She passed away in early 2020, a few weeks after our mother.
Just hearing the Monkees brings me back to the 60s when I was a kid. It brings tears to my eyes because it was such a great childhood that I had and that the Monkees were a part of!
I played this not long ago and the response from my mom was unexpected. She got a big smile on her face and said “Awww the Monkees! Reminds of when I was a little girl.” She’s pushing 70. So great to hear songs from your youth and it brings back good memories. It was from my mom’s childhood. It was from mine from the Monkee’s reruns. It’s famous again today. You can’t keep a great song down! Classic song. 🤙🏼
Yep. Me too. Met all except Mike. Loved all. Mickey was so fun. He even sang I'm a Believer to my niece when she was 7 dancing on a table at Harrah's Tahoe.
Agree totally. I just recall sitting in front of the TV and my Dad would sometimes sit down and even he laughed at their antics. Just a pure sound that brings out the best childhood memories.
Thats the TRUTH! TV was Soooo Great then! Monkees, Wild wild west! Rat Patrol! Clay Coles Discotheque! Chiller Theater! Lost In Space! Time Tunnel! Etc Etc! No Screens! Noo Buttons! Just Simple Enjoyments.. Was a GOOD time to be a kid.... God Bless.

You took the word's out of my mouth, that style of dancing was late 1950's and 60's, you really have to hand it to him; if I were to try that l'd end up in Hospital. They were a great group.
I agree with you. Not sure how gracefully I have aged. But times from my past are locked into some wonderful memories. It looks as though you embrace a culture as well. I do also. A much different one. But music has always been magical to me. Far back in my youth. I still have an extensive music collection. And every song brings me to a place or person. Many I've lost. Families mostly were bigger in my time. 8 in mine all gone but 1. Most were lost at young ages. But these songs refresh that time for me. It's magical as I said. ✌️☮️🌹🥲
RIP to three of the four Monkees! Damn... upon Mike's death I looked deeper into the band and they really were CRIMINALLY underrated as artists. Great catalogue, great sense of humor, great presentation. Timeless, in a way.
I watched the Monkees every week when they were on TV originally...I watched them endlessly on Saturday mornings in the 70's... I played their albums over and over...and over again. Their songs and images like this video are engrained in my brain and my soul. It just breaks my heart that Mickey is the only one left now. Rest in Peace guys. Critics and nay-sayers be damned over the years...I hope you guys all know how much you meant to us, your fans.

That's because writing music has become a lost art. Computer programs do the writing now based on an algorithm of what people supposedly want. This is why there has not been a popular song with a key change since 2002. They no longer know how to write a proper melody and don't understand how to use key changes and time changes to enhance and color the mood(s) of a song. That is what's missing from modern music. It reminds me of the Bowie / Ronson collaboration. Bowie wrote the songs on guitar and brought a very crude and basic structure to Ronson who then molded that song into the tunes we know and love. Ronson created the arrangements, key changes and time shifts. That was all 100% Ronson.
I was in 2nd grade when this song was released, the melody stayed with me for a whole summer. I was this lil black kid humming this song on the playground all summer, til my sister got tired of me screwing the lyrics up and bought me the 45 disc. R.I.P. Rita, and this will always be our song.
My mother who was born in 1948 says this is her favourite ever song, we’ve all grown up with it. 55 years on and even my kids love it. Timeless classic that’s guaranteed to liven up your day 😃

This song is one of few that makes me want to tear up. I’m a Beatles fan but this song is just as good as any. The melody is melancholic and cheerful at the same time. Chorus is hypnotizing that I wouldn’t have minded if it went on for another hour.
This was my Dad's favourite song and we listened to it together on many occasions. He passed away on the 21st of February 2019. This was played at his funeral as we carried him in and I still listen to it almost every day since. Yeah it'd really sad how much they were limited and looking at the video now, it makes sense why so many notes and tunes are not accounted for. Regardless the band is a true classic!

Innocent!!?? I don`t know where you were in the late 60`s, but

My absolute favorite song of the Monkees! Their music was and is so much fun to listen to!
I know mine too! I was three years old whent his came on and my brother was 12 and I would sit in front of the tv and say "Mike! Mike!" I STILL love Mike Nesmith- he wrote to me and sent me signed gifts a few times ove the years he was an absolute love, for sure! I treasure my letter from him! One of my first images I think of from that age of three was their legs walking intertwined like that! :P! I met Peter Tork in 1980 on Micky's brithday at the Playboy club in NJ- OH MY GOD I was toast - 26 French kisses he gave me- we were together like three hours- OH, I was just mezmerized by him! My mother was too- she said he was so intelligent and charismatic- he WAS too! His voice in my ear gave me chills- I will never forget the way he said my name, ohhhhhhh talk about swoon! He is tall too! I was 16 :) what a way to learn how to French Kiss! i didn't even have a boyfriend- never kissed a boy, util Peter WWOWOWOWO! Theh funny thing was, I said to my mother the next day that I didn'tknow why he was pressing my thigh with his knee-- she siad, "OH MY GOD! THAT WASN"T HIS KNEE!!!!"Kimberly
Go figure.
@@sidecarmisanthrope5927 I don`t think you were talking to me, but your comment came to my not. bell. I never knew anything about the backstory, if you will, on D.B., but it sounds like most Monkees tunes being brushed off with discain by the guys because they wanted to do their own material..sorry for misspell on disdain. Looking back with the mind of an adult and musician, the boys were really given a ticket to stardom and had a fuckton of good songs to work with. I still love some old Monkees tunes but they were just that; boys. Naive boys without a clue about the industry.

*How wrong he was and didn't know it!*

* 'The Monkees' will live-on long after all the original fans are gone, and that wouldn't be true unless there was real talent and chemistry involved between them, because although a camera may not 'tell the truth of things'...it doesn't 'lie' either*
*WE know the difference between 'fake' and 'real' and what we saw and heard from the 'American Fab Four' was real even if it was never intended to be*

*I saw an interview with Nesmith here on 'Tube and he talked about Peter Tork and how Mike seemed to just 'always not quite right' and "Not the friend I should've been" with Peter in being 'not enemies but not close the way we should have been' and that when an assistant told him where he working said "I just heard that Peter has died" it felt "Like I was kicked in the guts and my heart stopped because I never got the the chance to tell him I loved him and didn't know it and now it's too late to even say goodbye to him*

*My family was not 'rich' at all but there was always money for me to have for lunch at school and for 'after' and I always got 'movie money' at least twice a month and Leon had none of that and the 'little house' he and his mom lived-in would be considered 'cheap' and 'poor' even in the late '50's thru the '60's in Dearborn, Mi.*
*How I wish I could see him now after more than fifty-years have passed, and tell him "I'm sorry for not being a better friend than I was but I just didn't know any better and now that I know it makes my heart hurt that I wasn't as good to you as you were to me and I'M SORRY*
( *We moved from Dearborn to Las Vegas in early '68 and I never even thought to say 'Goodbye' to him and get his address so I could write to him or maybe call sometimes* )

What a great lost we miss you and the memories still remains i love your songs
This song is 2 minutes and 46 seconds of pure joy. None of today's songs can match its melody, lyrics and hook.
Couldn’t agree more. ❤

Peter Tork (the guy playing the piano) also died on that day. Does your dad happen to be him?
It’s sad that Micky is the last one remaining, but it also warms heart that he is still here to keep the memories of his bandmates alive.
I had a connection behind the scenes of The Monkees years ago due to my animal campaigns. Davy Jones once wrote to me and had champagne waiting for me when I went to see him. His friend sent me a photo of Davy with his racehorse. A long time ago now. RIP Davy. ❤🐇
💘🙏
I lived near Dave Jones in East Manchester in the 80's, I saw him once or twice in the post office on Hyde Road between Debdale park and Denton Golf Club!!
@nickbarnes71. Wow, what a treat that would be..to run into Davy in the neighborhood. ❤😀
OMG..are you a 🐇person too?❤ Check out my son Baby🐇! They are earth angels!❤❤❤

This song never gets old!
It’s got it all
It's fab
No, but I did! Lol
@Tara Doring Thanks for the tip!
No it doesn’t.
These guys were so underrated...such a great song
Here after Peter's death. Him and Davy are together now. RIP ♥️♥️♥️
Never got the true recognition they deserved 😢😢😢
They didn't write this song.
@@smithaustin624 who did? Is there an original by a different artist?
@@JP-sm4cs A lot of groups have writers. The thing about them is that they were so cute and entertained us. What a sweetheart, Davie, seriously. They were not really meant to be a serious group; they had a TV show and entertained us. Yet, I really did appreciate the music of Michael Nesmith. Joanne. C'mon, they were sweet and cute and I had a huge crush on Micky!
@@JP-sm4cs This is the original, they just didn't write it. John Stewart did.
These guys, this music, such nostalgia, brings back memories of some of the best times of my life! I can't help but smile when I watch these Monkees videos.
Possibly the greatest Pop song ever ...
To a 7 year old Dutch boy at that time this song represented the USA, the country were I wanted to live when I grew up. I never lived there, but visited the USA on a regular basis in the last 35 years. I always had this song with me when I traveled there, consecutively on 8-track, cassette, portable CD player, MP3 player, USB stick and now Spotify. Greatest song ever!
You’ve got good taste.
My favourite
Travel Bird: Whatever is said about the U.S. where I'm from we and England produced such wonderful short songs. Sorry not the Dutch, French, Germans, Russians, Croatian, Italians, Arabs, Hindus, Japanese, Chinese....!!! Yes in past centuries Europe was supreme in art and music!
Gene is a junkie. Cheer up sleepy gene, of what can it mean?
Bedankt meneer, jij heb gelijk!
The unmistakable voice of Davy Jones
Amazing!!!
👍 nice 👍👏😃😅😂
He could keep a beat, too.
Wasn't he wonderful...? And beyond cute!
He was so cute
A great song from my childhood that I never get tired of hearing. The Monkees really were underrated as artists.
Some people like this even more with the arrival of WandaVision
I was born in 1960. Times were certainly different. I grew up in South Australia. I had 8 siblings and wonderful parents. I used to rush home from school to watch the Monkeys tv show. I just loved the music! Still very close to all my family and we often talk about those great times.
Wonderful music. Times were innocent where I grew up. Married my high school sweetheart and recently celebrated our 52nd wedding anniversary. Other places in the US may not have been so innocent. Music connects us all together.
RIP Peter. The Monkees were a big part of my life when I was a kid. So much so it is all still pretty clear in my mind some 40+ years later. Thanks for the fun times!
I loved The Monkees so so much, whole room plastered with their pictures! Saw in concert twice in Cincinnati! I have all their albums!
I lived through the 60's and this song pierces my heart with so many memories and so much wholesome goodness! Thank you God for so much of your goodness!
yes agree
I'm with ya'll! 60s were the best for sure. Peace and happy memories!
To everyone who loves this song 🎵 your all beautiful people ❤️🏴❤️
