Breakneck Heartbreak - Cathy Come Home
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- Cathy Come Home is a TV play from 1966 that uses a documentary style to depict the descent of a young couple trying to to find housing in post-war Britain. Directed by Ken Loach, it made use of many local actors, and the performances are very believable.
Here I'm noting the pace of Cathy Come Home and its effect. Together with the story, the pace helps to create an intense film that proves to be tough but compelling, and although the intensity comes partly from the restricted length, is what the subject matter demands. - Фільми й анімація
Of course it was Tony Blair, he doesn't like pizza.
huge fan of ping pong though

You’re so damn good at what you do, please don’t stop. UA-cam just wouldn’t be the same without you. I hope 2020 is good one for you. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas and Happy Shakira!
Amazing the BBC didn’t record over this like they did early Dr. Who episodes!
That'll be the Hiptang!
I assume you went to tell Andrew you couldn't be friends anymore, and that's why you stayed for thirteen days
Happy Shakira to you as well Georg!
Lucky that my breasts are small and humble so you don't confuse them with mountains and shalom to us all.
Merry Hiptang
That'll be the Hiptang!
No
One person in the housing council disliked this
I disliked because I'm already subbed and dont want his vids overtaking my recommended section.
"Thank god this problem no longer exists in britain" best joke I've heard all day.
I was looking for a comment on this, where the hell has that guy been the last few decades?
@@rogfusionkid -I am not a native English speaker and even I understood the ironic undertone and the accompanying facial expression. Didn't you?
I think the same too.
Quite so. There are far worse ones in its place.
These bite size segments are the best idea you've ever come up with imo. They all made riveting yet informative viewing .
Happy Christmas! :D
My dad told me Cathy Come Home changed tv forever.
I think one of the most interesting things about Ken Loach's directing style is that so many of his earlier films have such a direct almost documentary style to them, and it was incredibly evident in so many of his TV plays where they felt so much like a documentary and one particular movie that I watched was his adaptation of 'Up the Junction' which even had segments of people talking directly into the camera.
It's strange as to how much he's evolved as a film-maker where there's still a very distinct element of social-realism to his dramas but there's a lot more intricate ways in which he invokes those feelings, and I think that it's pretty telling as to how much he's evolved from his teleplays to even his early theatrical films like Poor Cow and Family Life, where although there's still a heavy element of social-realism a lot of the directing style feels constrained and still focusing moreover on presenting underlying systemic issues in a way that's palatable. It's less direct than his teleplays but the elements are still as effective.
Loved the hip tang series 2.0. Hope to see you before a few many months.. Merry Christmas, mate! Much love from Brazil.
Yes. A brilliant piece (as is much of Loach's work). I believe the film contributed to a change in housing policy at the time.
Happy Shakira!
The hiptang don't lie.
^winning comment
Thank you for making this series, what a wonderfully eclectic set of choice media. Keep up the stellar work. And does hiptang really work?
Shaun Jones Hiptang cured my dropsy (but gave me shingles)
Only her hairdresser knows for sure.
The quality of your content per tang is incredible.
Thanks for the posts! I always get excited to see a new video from you, hear your insight and dry humor.
"Thank God those problems no longer exist in Britain...."
Thank God Britain no longer exists.
Happy BreXitmas!
Greetings from late 2020 I guess
those problems still do happen
You're absolutely right about the pace, especially as it comes into the final act - it's moving not only beyond Cathy's control, its moving beyond your control. Harrowing is exactly the word - and it is a harrowing that stays with you, always in the back of your mind, having seen it.
Have a good holiday season, Georg. You make some of the best and most interesting videos on this platform, I hope you continue to make them in 2020 and many years to come. Cheers 🥂
"Thank god those problems no longer exist in Britain" Cue perfect awkward pause while hiding from a prince in a wardrobe.
All I got in my stocking was a jar of hiptang >:(
And you're disappointed?!
@@Cunnysmythe where there was one I wished there were many
Ken Loach never pulls punches, does he?
That was Ray Brooks, wasn't it? He was the narrator of Mr. Benn. I loved Mr. Benn.
Well, at least they've stopped pretending to care. That'll be the HipTang. Merry HipTang.
Great vid, heartbreaking subject. I’m missing the glow of the lava lamp, guess I’ll have to soothe my nerves with a shot of Hiptang
☝️and happy robonighan
This film Cathy come also related to the Irish and the coloured people that came to England they was treated in the same way sometimes much worse but they never put coloured people or Irish people in the film when they made it I think they should have done...
"That's all I have for today. Go away now!"
86? Shun housing? That'll be the Hiptang.
It's come full circle we are having those problems
I honestly wouldn't mind if you did an entire little series, or maybe a longer video, talking about British TV plays. Several of my favorite British films are TV plays, several of my favorite British filmmakers and actors started out by making TV plays (my favorite, Alan Clarke, made them almost exclusively), and quite a few of the older British films I most want to see - such as this one - are TV plays. Its such an interesting phenomenon to me, and right up your alley since you like to talk about both the artistic merit of movies and the industry that produces them, and both angles would be absolutely fascinating in this instance.
This is the kind of media archeology i sub for
As if these problems no longer exist in Britain!!!!

Georg do you get trouble from the copyright folks? Merry Christmas to you.
@Arbiter Lite I understand that. But that doesn't stop the weaselly bots and greedy souls from being annoying.
The parting shot of this film 'Thank God these problems don't exist anymore' seems to overlook the crisis in housing that exists today. Council houses have been sold off and not been replaced. Waiting lists for housing have become ever longer, and we are not building houses that are needed at an affordable price! Seems to me we have not learnt very much since this film was made and moreover, this present Government shows no sign that they even care!
I agree with you there
Hark the herald hiptang sings
Is that Tony B 😂😝
3:00 The mothers confront at the Angry Matron
Hiptang! It doesn't work if you skip a day.
I just now got that this has been an advent calendar of reviews. Sometimes I'm a little slow.
Can't find Hiptang anywhere!
Bless you Georg. Perfect choice for the Xmen season. Peace and goodwill to all men.
"Thank God those problems no longer exist in Britain."
Spot on.
Merry Christmas, Georg.
I ordered some Hiptang as Christmas stocking stuffers for family members. They were quarantined at the border for having "too many radioisotopes." Should I not be consuming it?
'thank god those things don't exist anymore' F F Sakes there here alright MAYBE EXIST MORE THAN WHEN THE FILM WAS MADE
Your plot synopsis made it sound like propaganda for the welfare state aimed at the middle class, as if it says "well, you lot might have reservations about the welfare state, but it's not just the paupers who gain from it."
I’m not sure it is. The welfare state was in full swing at this time across Britain. My guess is it’s trying to push for more of it through better care and more housing.
Man, look how effectively that welfare state eliminated homelessness.
@@derrickmiles5240 Well, despite all its many problems the Brtish welfare state has improved the situation in the UK.
Life was even tougher in the 19th century.

I went into my local AutoZone for some Hiptang and when I asked them where it was in the store they looked at me like I was crazy. Is there some way I can order it by the case direct from a distributor?
I understand that it is now only available from Woolworths and Blockbuster.
what in the world is hiptang? serious question. hope at least one person gives serious answer. okay, I just looked closely at the writing and i'm sure itd just a joke. so now if someone can just tell me when and how the joke started. thanks in advance.
I think it started last year in this same series as some sort of parody of annoying tv ads. From what I can tell, the joke is that no one really knows what Hiptang is, but its praised anyway in advertisement
What's hiptang? It's kind of like a workout for your brain gym. It's like a mental multivitamin. It really helped me to refocus myself and pay attention so I can do my job betterer.
Hiptang is clearly a zesty salsa with a hint of sardine and lime
After a day of binge watching you I'm thrilled to see a video come out at the very end of my evening. Like you planned it all that way. Excellent work. Merry Xmas.
Watching this film i came to the conclusion that all the communist and capitalist propaganda is just a lie. I see no difference at that time where this movie took place. I'm from Hungary
Maybe the difference is that communist movies only shown happy people all around the place.
This is the funniest analytical channel on yt. Or is it the most informative comedic channel? Shit...how much is too much hiptang, and what are the symptoms again?
Hiptang is extremely dangerous when exposed to a naked flame. Or any nakedness. Happy New Nakedness!
I give this 4 hiptangs out of 5
sadly this problems came back to Britain with all prices rises and no help from government we heading in that direction full speed
I lived through those "problems " and they do still exist ,what are you a Tory spokesperson lol

Hiptang is typical middle class hipster humour: It doesn't mean shit.
Wild how the people who saw it decided to make everything even worse. Gotta have those tax cuts.
"Thank god those problems no longer exist in Britain" - That'll be the Hiptang.
😂😂😂😂😂
I'm in awe of the variety and insight in this series.

I absolutely adore that you made this on this
Do you Brits ever sleep?! It’s 1am in Ohio, USA 🇺🇸, MERRY CHRISTMAS!
i think he lives in America. however, i'm a Brit in England and i dont sleep lol
No we spread out all over the world to fool you into thinking we never sleep.
You know what they say; the sun never sets...
I always come here for an uplifting euphoric feeling ,the same way you feel when the ''woman'' you took home last night reveals her scarf was to hide her Adams apple , i'll never fall for THAT 4 times in a row! HipTang, better than a Hip...wang!
Holy Hannah! Geoffrey Lewis?
Happy Christmas Georg.
Will Georg get to see the light?
Omg all i eant to do is watch it grrr
Sure it was Liptang....🤔
How can you see this now?
Merry Shakira to you too!
Name dropping? That'll be the Hiptang.
Merry Whatever, folks.
It still is a hit in the face events. I’ve been a social worker, mental health community worker, psychologist, for 49 years.
Pete Burns! Hah!
Im gonna miss these 😭😭
Just ordered all the Ken Loach BBC films from the 60s. You make me very curious.
Were you afraid that people just don't get depressed enough during the holidays? Good piece but jimney gosh darn cricket you could of chose something slightly less wrist cutting.
Missed you Georg. You shed light on our decaying world. When God died, it barely made the post.
Dude in the movie looked like a young Christopher Hitchens.
Well, I got some required viewing for the next couple of weeks. Thank you good sir.
Algorithm
Ken Loach hands-down made the best version of Superman.
Happy Midwinter Thing, Georg.
mas que poxa!
I remember this in the 1960 s I was a little girl and this frightened me as a loved adopted child x
Thanks for not forgetting us evil dudes... ;)
The idioms and manner of speaking in those days were affected by the Hiptang.
excellent,thank you things never change.....
The most shocking scene I think is when the manager hears a complaint and was reported in the papers of the conditions of the hostel. The way he talks to Cathy and tells hers that the kids are more important than the parents.
Hiptang bless us, each and every one!
is it possible to view the whole movie any where?
It's here on UA-cam.
Hiptang sends you back into the closet.
If only the HipTang wasn't so seasonal!
I’m sad that you won’t come out of the closet. 😞
