Good review, I have one of these in the 12700H + 4070 variety and also noticed the TGP is only 90 to 100w.. GPU-Z does show it's capable of a max of 140w but I think that's including ray tracing and other features which seem to demand more power. Regardless, my question is about the panel brightness, did you use a meter to measure the brightness? I think the 144hz panel is over 250nits maybe close to 300nits when comparing to similar 300nit panels I have on hand.
I do not have a screen measurement and display tool. That is the next item on the list to get so I can do more detailed display testing. It is 300 nits though and pretty standard for the course. At full and above 50% brigthness a pretty good experience in indoor lighting or controlled environments. As for the difference between 144Hz and 165Hz I think it does make a difference as panels have different characteristics. And they change with each year etc. And yes as for the 4070, 4060 and 4050 they all run around 90-100W.
You'd have to check the DPC latency scores. Don't buy a laptop just because it's fast CPU or more RAM, it might have poor DPC latency. That said I did not run DPC testing since I'm not an audio focused channel but more general and overall usability and experience of ownership. Hope that helps.
awesome review! i was thinking to buy its i7 13700h with rtx 4060 model, any ideas on how much would that cost and if it is a deal worth it? Asus TUF laptops didnt release in my country yet.
I don’t have any pricing information for different countries. But i7 or i9 would be just fine for gaming and everyday stuff. If you’re doing something very specific and need more power, you would known it. 😉
Thank you so much. This review was brought to you by my wallet. Please subscribe and share on social media to help grow my channel. I would really appreciate it!
Hi Bro, do you think the fan would be noisy if I use it to watch netflix/youtube or light gaming like LOL? And do you think it can last for 4-5 years? thanks!
Kind of dissapointed that the display is only 250 nits… However 5.5 hours on heavy work seems pretty impressive! How long do you think it’ll last with light work such as maybe spreadsheet and youtube?
I am also disappointed by 250 nits. 300 should be the absolute minimum. Although 400 would be respectable. In light work I think you should be able to squeeze 6-7hrs, possibly even 8 depending on how aggressive you are with killing background processed and apps and keeping multi-tasking to a minimum.
5.5hours after enabling ALL the power saving features + running the 250nits screen at 50% brightness? That's not really good. The 13900H was probably both power limited by Armoury Crate + clock boosting limited by Power Saver Mode on windows. It was not running any better in single or multicore than an i3 or even a last gen ryzen on battery. You don't get an Intel laptop for the battery life in 2022-2023 unless you want the incredible power while connected to power... The current ecosystem stands like this: Intel 13xxx + AMD 7x45 HX series of CPUs are GREAT in performance but TERRIBLE in battery life. Use them plugged in, or DON'T BUY at all. Need 100W+ for the CPU to perform well. Performance on battery literally gets half or 1/3 of plugged in performance... It's just a waste at that point. AMD 7x40HS are great balance between decent power (vs 12700H/13700H) but also GREAT battery life. Runs great in range of 20W-45W . AMD 7x35HS is old tech in new name, but it's still ok performer with similarly GREAT battery life. THE bets mobile laptop, that you actually travel with and use on battery is 7940HS, nothing else comes close, except Apple's M2 PRO that mostly beats it, especially in battery use. For gaming or work laptop that's plugged in, get whatever.
5.5Hours on a 90Whr battery means on average 16W power use. Let's say the screen takes 2W at 50% other system components another 2W. CPU uses 12W? For the 13900H? Yeah, i'm sorry, but at 12W package power the 13900H is worse CPU than even 2022 Android Phones. I KID YOU NOT. Please, reviewers, call things as they are... EDIT: The power numbers may not be accurate. for example Screen 50% + other system components like SSD may take like 2W total themselves on average. so the CPU would have like 15W CPU package power on itself. The point still applies. 15W for 13900H is NOT ENOUGH for a single core to boost... Let alone to share for 6P+8E cores.
@@arditm2178 yeah ur right u don’t usually get an intel laptop for the battery life but I need a laptop that can game somewhat good on charge but can still last long unplugged for light work such as web browsing and spreadsheet as im just a student. Hi! I'd like to ask you something: does the tuf enable a rog boost overclock while using turbo mode? Also does it let you customise the power limits in manual mode? Thank you!
Yes but you will need to use Windows Battery Saver mode, run only one or two apps at a time, turn off Bluetooth and do some dance to the battery deities to get that consistently. If battery life is main priority I would look at something else. But great battery life and decent gaming performance is like finding a unicorn.
@@techknowlux hi so i finally got my laptop , i truly enjoy it but for some reason when i play cracked games like hogwart lagcy the game become so laggy even in low setting, mind telling how to fix the issue ?
yes. don't play cracked games. or for God's sake, don't tell everyone you're using cracked games when you're asking for technical support. no one has going to help you.
@aleks-gv8nk I have not tested and don't have any 12700H models to compare against. But I would guess based on 13th gen and 14th gen testing that it's either about the same or a little hotter because they keep increasing the power with every generation ate least for the H and HX CPUs. If you're looking at Meteor lake Core Ultra 7 155H and Core Ultra 9 185H they work a little better because they have different power curves. But then they don't have the same performance as the HX. They're probably more in line with the H series CPUs that you see in the TUF F15 from 2023. Hope that helps.
Asus I would say. Asus generally has better build quality and more brand recognition. Perhaps even better resale value too. Also since Asus is a larger OEM, you'll get better support too. What do you think of these suggestions?
I won't use dlss3 tech, would it make sense for me to buy Lenovo Legion 5 Ryzen 5 5600h, RTX 3060, 16GB ram instead of Asus for video editing and gaming?
If you're not planning on DLSS3 *and* can find a better deal, then yes. You should get close to or similar performance out of an RTX 3060 vs the RTX 4050 in strictly raster performance. And it'll be just fine for video-editing. Just make sure to use proxy-clips or reduce the render resolution in your editing software to half or quarter resolution so it's easier to pan and work the video in real-time. Output and rending the final cut might be slower than the higher-tier GPUs but you'll be just fine if you're patient.
All laptops have a challenge to manage heat. Consider the games you want to play and whether 60fps will be enough. A balanced mode with DLSS+Frame Generation should be able to get you there on Ultra or High in most games.
@GrandKaya Not much if you don't care about the RTX 4000 series GPUs and the DLSS3 and Frame Generation support. For those reasons alone, I would not recommend buying a 12700H laptop. The CPUs are just a few percentage points within each other in terms of performance. Are you buying it for gaming or a bit of everything?
Yup, even did 4K video editing on it in Davinci Resolve. Not the smoothest experience but it can do it. Setting the rendering resolution to quarter while editing or using proxy clips definitely helps. Edited photos and created thumbnails for this laptop ON this laptop and without issue!
It's the scam of the decade from nvidia selling cards claiming its "140w" when in reality barely reaches 100w smh . Great video 👍
I 100% agree. This should be illegal and action should be taken.
