    I own a RTX 4050 laptop and this video is spot on. I don't have the bandwidth to game constantly so I'm just playing games from my backlog that are at least 3-4 years old. 6 GB of VRAM is great for this scenario at 1080p, but an argument can be made that it's obsolete with minimum requirements nowadays being 8GB of VRAM. Nvidia is really counting on DLSS to fill in the VRAM gap, but it can only do so much. It's the reason why the 6800 XT is considered to be one of the best value GPUs from the previous generation.

      im still able to run all newer games at 1080p high settings though right? and still get good fps?

    • @johnnyb13
      @johnnyb13 8 місяців тому +2

      @@beckett29 depends on your definition of high? If you're fine with 60fps then you should be alright. If you want 90fps+ natively then look elsewhere. Also, if you want to play more visually impressive titles then you might be reliant on DLSS which does work very well. I would go the 4060 route for extra assurance for 1080p gaming that should keep up within the next few years.

      @@johnnyb13 just wondering, on the benchmarks ive seen of the laptop im getting that has a rtx 4050 6gb version and ryzen 7 7840hs, they are getting well above 100 on high settings in gta, valorant, fortnite, cod and stuff like that. if settings are cranked down it even goes above 200. Am I going to be able to play games at those frames but it's going to stutter really bad or something? I just don't understand it.

      @@beckett29 you'll be fine. Fornite, COD, and similar games will output high fps with this GPU since those games are better optimized to include a wide range of audience with different GPUs so you'll be plenty fine. I play mainly single player story-driven games and I get good FPS at 1080p.

    Historically, the 50 series have been vram limited. It seems like it's for casual budget gamers like myself who intend to play games that came out the same year or earlier, at least the AAA ones.
    I'm actually now contemplating on just getting a PS5 by the end of the year instead of upgrading to a 4050 laptop since PC ports of games are always not as optimized.

      Nope. Don't do it. I mean, unless you already have access to a PC, that's not a good decision at all.
      There have been like 2 games this year that have been absolutely terrible ports. One of them has been updated recently which massively increases fps across the board.
      I will say that a 4050 will struggle at 1440p or 4k or 1080p with extremely demanding raytracing, but it's still leagues better than the PS5(which is more comparable to a 2060 in a best case scenario), especially with dlss 3.
      Plus, the numerous benefits of owning a PC. You're just going to save money in the long run.

    In the time of rtx 3050 i really thought 4gb of vram was pretty bad, even previous generation 1660ti(the one i have) outperforms it in some vram demanding games, but in this generation i believe they did it right, the 50 series has the same vram than 60 series from last gen, dont forget the word entry level, sometimes people want the best of the best but are not willing to pay its price. Now the high price of 4050 laptops are indeed a problem, but i believe it is one that will be fixed in short time when more models arrive. I believe when 50 series is 850 or 900$, you will be getting a lot for the price, otherwise pay a bit more and go for 4060.

    There is a huge factor which needs to be considered when comparing an older gpu against the 4050, the 40 series GPUs are way ahead in terms of the efficiency and thus being able to fit into slim laptops. If you care about heat, thin design and small form factor, the 4050 mobile is a no brainer.
    The 3070ti or even the 1080ti is required to be in bulky 15/16 inch laptop and even so, extremely high temps whilst playing normal games.

    • @Hubwood
      @Hubwood  Рік тому

      Well that's basically always the case.
      There have been 35w versions for the 3050 aswell from the start. Very efficient back then (problem beeing 4gb vram)
      Newer generations are always more efficient. There also are 60w versions of the 3060 that fit in slimmer laptops aswell.
      And the 4050 version With 100w is not meant for slim laptops.
      So it really depends.
      But of course the low wattage versions of newer GPUs are always a good fit for slim laptops, sure.

    Currently running a 120W 4060 laptop and the limit at ~90 watts is very confusing for me. In some benchmarks like Furmark, it goes all the way up to the limit, and the results there are pretty crazy (Even beating out some recent benchmarks for desktop 3060 Ti's, 3070s, and even a handful of 2080 supers and even a 2080 ti) Apart from that, I have no complaints, as I'm not really interested in a lot of these newer AAA games, and with my 1080p display I can run pretty much whatever I want at absolute maximum settings, which produces noticeable results with my 165 hz display, especially coming from a 2016 office laptop with a 920 mx and a 720p 60 hz screen.
    Even the price I got it for wasn't terrible at all surprisingly. Paid ~1300 for a 4060, 16 gigs of 3200 ddr4, a 512 gb SSD, an i7-13620H, and a 16:10 1080p 165hz display along with a cooling system that keeps temps shockingly low even with a mild overclock. I can even run it with fans on "silent" mode and still get great performance. Additionally, DLSS3 and raytracing in the games that support it is a game changer. Considering there is an additional m.2 slot and an additional ram slot, I'm probably going to throw in another 16 gig stick and a 1 tb SSD (which with today's pricing is somehow under $100 for the both of them)
    If you can get a good 4060 laptop for around the same price or even lower, I might even venture to say it's a somewhat good value buy considering the performance and portability you get, even compared to a similar desktop intel/nvidia build (if you factor in the monitor and peripherals) (although an AMD/AMD, Intel/AMD, AMD/Intel or even Intel/Intel build right now seems to be the way to go with nvidia's GPU pricing)

    Finally, GPU equality. 4050 desktop coming in 6GB and 4060 on desktop coming in 8GB VRAM too. That was sad to hear and heartbreaking at the same time. Guess this is it for the next-gen gaming. There is no point gaming higher than 1080p since so many badly optimized games released these days even 1080p gaming being too demanding. VRAM not maxed out is a RTSS scam. It's actually bottlenecked heavily. According to Tech YES City where they discussed 8GB is the bare minimum for the newer titles with no Ray Tracing. I like NVIDIA features which AMD don't have like Shadowplay and DLSS for instance. If not then Imma go with AMD instead. For productivity and editing, it's very doable, just make sure you have enough RAM and gitgud display and that's all about it.

    I really don't understand the point of this video. NVIDIA has to skimp on VRAM because the 4050 GPU for laptops has to be smaller while still coming close to its sister desktop version, of course they can't just magically cram 8gb of VRAM into a GPU thats smaller and has lower wattage. I have a RTX 4050 w/ AMD Ryzen 7 CPU, and this laptop runs great. And yes, I run Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy very smoothly with some global graphic tweaks.

    Totally agree to be honest, the bare minimum now if you want to play 4K is 16GB (desktop or laptop on its screen or with monitor plugged... Try playing Cyberpunk on 4K and ultra settings with RT on its around 15950 mb for Vram already, yes 4050 is not intended towards 4K gaming and yes cards in this segment do not have the processing power to help even if there was 16 GB Vram, what I mean if a game from 2-3 years like Cyberpunk already uses 16 GB Vram, there should not be any 6 or 8 gb, it's limiting games at lower res and lower settings you don't have to play at 4k, rt, and Ultra settings to be bottlenecked by a 6 to 8 GB of Vram, even 12 Vram will most likely limit you in many title from 2021-2024, if you are buying a desktop though, and have the money and want to game 4k, then by one of those 24+ cards that will be released soon from AMD, Nvidia, those if came with the expected good specs will last you 6 years flat ....

      Definitely the 4060, it has more VRAM. 4050 140w will practically never use more than 95-100w. 4060 can match 4050's peak performance at just 55watts of power. If you go with 4060 you might get like 10% less performance but the extra 33% VRAM will be worth it. Furthermore, the 45w 4060 laptop will be thinner, more portable and lighter as well and maybe even comes with a smaller power brick. Just get the 4060 if you haven't already, it's a win win situation. Remember VRAM is very important. Coming from someone who owns 2 4GB GPUs, if you run out of VRAM it is nasty.

    Going from console to PC is not such a big code-rewrite as people claim ... actually it is quite easy nowadays.
    That perception comes from the older consoles many many years ago when their hardware was often completely different from PCs. When the Xbox used power-PC, or the Playstation used Cell (and basically all earlier consoles) the behaviour of the hardware was wildly different from PCs. But now? No.
    Hogwarts is just wasting a lot of memory and LastOfUs has been widely criticised for the myriad of memory bugs it has. For both games people have shown that even just ini-tweaks can significantly improve performance and reduce memory usage WITHOUT changing visuals, and for both the communities have created mods to further fix all those memory bugs (say having the max quality textures loaded for an object in the far distance that is always only shown at the lowest LoD ).

      People need to start voting with their wallets. We can see that this works with many examples, and we also see the opposite.
      When games are released completely broken like Cyberpunk and people still buy them then the next game will be no better. When game have poor performance and memory bugs but people still buy them then this will keep being the same the next time. When scalpers (illegally) sell GPUs for insane prices and people buy them then they will continue doing so. When Manufacturers set the GPU prices at twice the value they should be and people still buy them then the prices will stay at those insane levels.

    I thought that full wattage (or over 115w) 3060 laptops would be great to buy now since they are faster than similar 4050 laptops due to power scaling, but now the 6gb VRAM seems to be a major limitation. At least the AMD 6600M/S and above have over 8gb of VRAM and usually cost the same

      @tataroma4900 Рік тому

      Well, this is not such a simple question and depends on many factors. No one knows how the price will change and how quickly it will happen. If you have a choice between 4050 and 4060 for the same price, it makes sense to wait. The only question here is time. How long are you willing to wait, because life goes on? For example, maybe there will be good discounts on Black Friday, but are you ready to wait that long? In addition, if you do 3D and video editing, it may make sense to buy an Intel laptop, since they are better than AMD in that segment.

      @@tataroma4900 well to be honest my biggest issue is here, waiting, i am willing to wait but id say a maximum of like 2 months is i have the guarantee to get the same price, which is very far from being a fact. more than that i am going for the AMD version since it was cheaper with the higher tier CPU and GPU than the intel one which is out of my budget. However if i do decide to go with the 4050 it would be the intel based machine. @@TarekKhadir Well, I'm afraid that no one will be able to predict whether a particular model will be available on a particular web-store at a particular price in two months. Why don't you write or even call to the support of that seller and ask them about it? You can ask first if there will be a restock in the next two months, and if they say yes then ask what price is expected. This is the only thing I can advise you. Also, within two months, new models with the same video cards may appear on the market, possibly at a lower price due to competition.

    Well in Mexico the xbox series X still costs like 800 dollars, I bought a laptop with 16 GB of RAM and rtx 4050 it cost me like 900 dollars, it runs the games better than an xbox series S that cost me like 335 dollars, so well the price is equivalent to almost triple and the performance is the same, so on an xbox series X you can't play spiderman remastered but on the laptop you can and at more than 60 FPS I'm super happy with that also a few days ago a video driver was released for the laptop and halo at more than 120 FPS in portable mode it's a real pleasure to play like that and the FHD due to the graphic overscaling looks like 4K on your monitor. I still need to try more games but at least all the games from the last generation, as long as they support more than 60Hz, can be played at more than 120 FPS with everything to the maximum. If there are games that don't work, they will be few and not very interesting, for some reason the most popular ones do work. In addition, you would only have to wait for them to release updates for the games and also for the video drivers.
    It is worth mentioning that in Mexico a PC, especially a laptop, with these features costs approximately $2000, which came to less than half of its base price, so if it was a good deal, the games I wanted to play worked without problems.

    I recently bought a laptop with a ryzen 5 with a rtx 4060 . But traded it for. Ryzen 7840hs and rtx 4050 . As I don't play games much. Still a great machine

    Amazing video. You just got a new subscriber.
    Since I'm currently comparing two laptops for mainly daily office / multitask use and portability with the possibility of playing games comfortably (occasionally), which one would you choose?
    Lenovo Legion 5 15IAH7H, 15.6" Full HD, Intel® Core™ i7-12700H, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, GeForce RTX™ 3060
    or
    ASUS TUF F15 FX507ZU4-LP040, 15.6" Full HD, Intel® Core™ i7-12700H , 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, GeForce® RTX™ 4050,
    Basically almost everything is similar (even the price) but the Lenovo packs a slightly smaller battery (80 vs 90 on the TUF), the Lenovo has DDR5 RAM compared with the TUF which has DDR4 (dunno if thats highly relevant) and obviously the GPU. I've heard some many good things about the 3060 and not so many good about the 4050, and clearly I don´t know both laptops GPU's wattage.
    What do you guys think? Help would be really appreciated considering you don´t really even have to answer a random comment :)
    P.S: I also put high value in core temperatures and laptop long term health

      Well tough decision but probably the Lenovo. For beeing a bit better in overall quality and the ddr5. Spec wise it probably won't make a difference like at all beside that.
      4050 and 3060 are VERY similar.
      But you can't really go wrong with any of these two...

    Well, I am an architect and 3d modeller and i am thinking of buying either the Dell G15 5525 with R7 6800h, 16gb ram, and rtx 3060. or the asus tuf a15 2023 with r7 7735hs, 8gb ram , and rtx 4050. both of them are sold almost at the same price here in turkey, and mostly i use software like revit, blender, autocad, 3dsmax, adobe suits and lumion. and i need help in deciding which one to buy. Help please.

    Hi! I was thinking to buy a Laptop with i71360P with a RTX 4050 45w, 32gb ram ddr5 and 1TB. To work and occasionally play games. But for 200$ more you get the 4060 55W version and 2TB memory. Should I buy the 4060 one?

      Well my best guess would be, that for occasionally gaming, in your case, you are fine with the RTX 4050. You're probably nobody that would avoid lowering settings or resolution at all cost :)
