@@mehemynxm6974 Brand loyalty is fine, it’s the fanboyism that’s weird. Some kind of fusion of playground politics and attempt to justify the money spent. I needed, no wanted a new GPU recently and was keen on getting an nvidia card this time around mainly for CUDA but the value proposition was just bad.
I wouldn't say it's brand loyalty all the time Nvidia market better and are more user friendly imo. It's a shame AMD can't seem to make the AMD software more accessible. When you plug in your GPU it should install adrenaline software and then give you a skippable tutorial for a new user. Instead you have to find answers on the likes of UA-cam
The "are amd gpu drivers still bad?" isn't brand loyalty though it was amd fault for that and they yet to outlive that reputation even if today amd drivers are actually better than nvidia drivers
I did the same, except it was an upgrade from a 3070 (which I loved) to the 7900 XT and I couldn't be happier. I cannot speak highly enough about AMD's Adrenaline software. It is very easy to use and looks amazing compared to Nvidia.
7900 is a beast, definitevly my next gpu when it comes down on price to 650 or so. I had a 3070 and sell it a month ago for 400 and a few days ago i buyed a 3080 fe for 420.
Same, got the 7900XT Hellhound open box for $719 and it is AMAZING! Don't even know why I bothered with Nvidia cards this gen. 4K gaming with even high RT mostly ultra settings and few settings set to high instead where its not even noticeable, I can get 120FPS easily. 20GB VRAM is so nice!
I did the same 7900xtx instead of 4090.. 4080 was out of the question due too RT benchmarks and memory configuration, better RT performance than AMD realy doesnt mean 1200euro+ worth RT performance:-D its sucks anyway , rasterization performance capabilities of 4080 that was nail to its coffin ... pretty fast decision. Supporting chiplets in gaming gpu market and price moved me too xtx instead of 4090. Frame gen in high-end gpu sector, basicaly performance hack . Lets be honnest It is performance hack used as "selling point " that was insult ... good feature, but not selling point.
I made the switch to AMD after EVGA exited the GPU market. I bought EVGA cards only for over a decade. I now have an XFX 7900 XTX. I could not be happier with the performance of the card.
I've worked and gamed on an old laptop with a 1050 (not Ti) for over 8 years and this month I built my first PC ever. I chose the RX 7800 XT cause there was a special offer on all products in a store, and I honestly couldn't pass the opportunity. It's worked absolutely amazingly, and the software is just great. As someone that had to play with everything on the lowest settings, never reaching above 30 FPS, and playing at lower than 1080 resolutions all this time, this feels like a dream, and I honestly feel like I paid almost nothing for all the performance I'm getting
I was initially going for a 3060 Ti, but when I saw videos about recent games struggling because of the lack of vram on nvidia GPUs I changed my mind an went with 6700XTwhich was cheaper and had 12 GB of vram instead of 8 GB on the 3060 Ti. I had the card for a week now and im amazed by the adrenalin software and drivers, absolutely no regrets.
@@thatguy3000 Benchmarks at release date 6700XT was sometimes faster and other times slower than 3070 but I guess since then better drivers came up and unleashed the true potential of the 6700XT
Exactly the same situation I was in deciding between the 3060ti and in the end got myself a 6700XT running with smart access memory and I’m amazed by the performance, also no regrets.
I bought my X370 platform 6 years ago, 1700X & Vega64. Just a month ago I installed a 5800X3D and 6950 XT into that same system. AMD has been great for me.
@@fengutheface It sure can, if the manufacture released a supporting BIOS. There is a caveat though, it will no longer support a few other models of CPU due to the small BIOS ROM size the X370 boards typically had.
AMD graphic cards are just fine for 95% of people and come in at a much more reasonable cost. I have a couple of 6650xt's and they are beasts for what I paid.
AMD was only doing so poorly because Intel bribed Dell and HP into not using their competitor's hardware in their pc's for years. AMD also is constantly making all of their work open-source and drastically pushing things forward.
Esp during the Socket A days where AMD Athlons and the Athlon XP were as competitive or were better than Intel's offerings at a lower price. AMD did well with critics in the Socket 939 days but the financial situation hurt them a lot because said critics would still praise intel more than AMD despite AMD being on par or better for the dollar.
I got my first AMD GPU a few weeks ago. The RX 6700 XT. and i'll be honest, i've been on a rollercoaster. the AMD adrenalin software was very intimidatingat first because i had absolutely NO IDEA what all these settings did; I just wanted to turn my computer on and play. on the plus side though, it's incredible how much control this software gives to the user. W for AMD👍
I would say this is the main issue with AMD there is a learning curve where as with Nvidia it's very straight forward game ready drivers and you're playing games. Once you know what you're doing with AMD though I much prefer it to nvidia
I went from a GTX 1070, needed a upgrade after several years of working that card like a workhorse. I bit the bullet on a XT 7900 XTX just due to the massive DDR memory sink it had, and went from 8 GB to 24 GB of VRAM. Every game I've thrown at it chews through it seamlessly on ultra settings. Works as hard as a 4080, but was $300 cheaper. Happy with it so far.
same here, went from 1070Ti to 7900XTX (personal rig, on working rig i used a lot of different cards mostly NVidia) , in this price and performance level, NVidia was no-go, price of 4090 is somewhere else and whole 40XX series is a joke compared to money they ask for it. Driver issue is the thing old several years, and for some reason there is not much ppl talking about nvidia drivers issue, since both manufacturer having them.
You prolly dont have a 4080. Becouse the rx 7900xtx did better in every game unless you are Actually not using its software but adjusting the nvdia software
yep upgraded from a GTX 1070 as well, having RMA it once, it then died again, during covid whilst GPUs were super high, worked out better price wise to get it a PC combo build, as I was not prepared to pay nearly tripe what the 1070 originally cost me. Got a 6700XT, been more than happy with it, 2 years so far, no hiccups, no driver hangs and the GPU itself, hasn't failed, unlike my Nvidia, in fact, I seem to call in my 20 years of Nvidia and AMD flip flopping, Nvidias have failed, AMDs I replaced cos they were obsolete. Never had to RMA an AMD, and the 1070 was not first RMA either, I seem to remember doing it on a Ti4600 and 9600GT years ago too, yet my Radeon have always been bullet proof.
Last week, I moved from nvidia MSI 1070gtx to AMD Sapphire Pulse 6700 xt. Couldn't be happier. The only 1 issue I had was mismatch of drivers and software suite, but it happened due to my own mistake. Card performs great, and power draw after undervolting is quite low.
How long do you intend on keeping it, I mean 1070 kept playing games at 60fps high or medium for about 8 years now so I'm thinking of getting a 6700 10gb, what do say for future games like black myth wukong, doom, phantom blade 0 etc ?
@@Nero_9000 Honestly, I'm probably going to keep it at least for 6-7 years. My 1070 served me well from 2017 to 2023, but after getting a new CPU (i5 1240f, had 4670k) I wanted some decent GPU to pair up with it. It should handle all new tittles for years to come with no problem, especially if you want to stick to 1080p-1440p.

@@Nero_9000 You're welcome, mate! Yes, 6700xt is a beast, and thanks to having more VRAM it will do even better than 1070. If you get it, you should check video ''How to OVERCLOCK and UNDERVOLT RX 6700XT'' from Ancient Gameplays. It's really beneficial stuff.
@@kamirupl alright brother, bless ya, and it's a saying here in ma town when you buy a new product, may lord make it long lasting for you. And yes I'm religious, is quite satisfying
My first GPU that I bought over 10 years ago was an amd 5770 juniper xt from Sapphire. Never understood the hate after switching to Nvidia myself. Great value for how long it lasted. Used it for nearly 5 years before I replaced it with an underwhelming 960 that cost me 50$ more than what I paid for the 5770. My brother used the 5770 for his minecraft and league gaming until it finally died on us 5 years after that. Best 150$ spent on a graphics card ever. For those who might question how it lasted so long, this was 720p gaming card, and my brother used a 720p monitor until the card died.
You don't have to prove why the card lasted long... These cards are like bulletproof, i have a r9 280 Dual-X from Sapphire since 2014 and it's nearly 10 yrs old still holding up like new.
Mine was ati radeon 9000 128mb.... I've used both Hd 5750 and 5770 👍 and loved all the AMD gpus ive used... Currently using 3080 ti but thinking of jumping to 7900 xt
I had my 960 for 8 years until I just recently upgraded my PC last month (Went with a RX 6650XT, which I now regret because I could have spent a little extra and got a better GPU)
i have a RX 6700 XT with a Ryzen 5 5600. Both bought on the used market for cheap money. And what can i say this system delivers really good performance on WQHD
I am often tempted by the deals I get in the used market, but then I pull back at the last minute, thinking it is a scam. What factors do u take into consideration when buying a cpu and gpu online? What checks I need to do to make sure, the things I am buying won't turn out to be DOA?
@@amritrai45 I know exactly how you feel. The second-hand market can be very tricky. In Germany we have a used market platform called "Kleinanzeigen" (Classifieds) I personally prefer to buy locally. Nevertheless, you have to be very careful, because nowadays more and more criminals are online.
@@amritrai45if you can pick it up personally and test it that would be ideal. I almost always buy used ones since 2009. Only bought bnew gpu twice. And I never had it shipped. It feels more like a lottery if you just gonna have it shipped to your address instead of picking it up so you could test it yourself, unless you have some kind of a buyer protection program then I guess you wouldn't need to worry.
Rocking my RX 570 for like 5 years, got it cheaper than a gtx 1050 LOL. It still plays everything to this day, tho its age is starting to show in some games. Will upgrade to an RX 6600 soon. It's crazy how people fanboy over brands, like they have some emotional connection with them😂😂. Like why not just buy the better value.
Hmmm 3 years compared to the 8-10 years consoles like a series s could get? Dunno mate I think you can keep that gpu and pc as a whole way longer I sure have
Hey... 52 and that is ALSO MY first graphic card I EVER got, was installed to a custom system that died in three months (sub par power brick). Then I made the mistake of trying to repair the system myself... Was A AMD 9 tower with the MOST expensive graphic card I could afford. I wanted to go ALL out at least ONCE in my life on a gaming system. Well replacement was a custom AMD 7 tower with integrated graphics on this AMD 7 CPU... Half the price as my blow out system then simply plugged in the graphic card from my new but DEAD system... FREAKING AWESOME! I STILL have the AMD 9 CPU that went with it and I believe the CPU is still in working order with all 16 cores being the monster it is but the AMD 7 CPU with only half the cores is nothing to sneeze at either. Also? Don't know why but my AMD 9 CPU was having problem staying cool even with the system at idle?!? I swapped out coolers on that note which DID make a big difference... but the system died anyways (sub-part power brick). The way I figured it? Integrated graphics on an AMD CPU wouldn't be bad. Was on the money on that note and if I plugged in an actual graphic card? Things would be sweater. Lets just say the graphic card was a bonus as I actually WASN'T used to playing games at 60 fps. But? I got spoiled FAST on that note! LMAO
People often forget how important DDU can be when switching GPUs. I switched a while ago and had massive issues until I used DDU to do a clean install of brand new drivers and haven't had any issues with AMD since then. Perfect performance for more than half the price of NVidia products.
Recently built my first gaming PC. I chose AMD despite hearing about all those driver problems. The first few weeks, I encountered some minor issues, but enough to get me nervous about my purchase decision. I got mad and thought Nvidia cards would never have these issues. Then, my brother bought a PC with RTX 3050, so I tried his. Turned out, Nvidia cards also have some driver issues, some are a bit worse than AMD, but people rarely talk about it.
Nah even with ddU I have had more issues with nvidia then amd if you don’t count the 5700xt. The 5700xt is in my sons rig and it’s been absolutely great the last two years to be honest. Rx580 rx5700xt rtx3060 rtx3070ti rx6950xt
true only thing is the ration between amd and nvidia is like 2:10 and therefore we hear the 2 more often than the 2 in the 10, both are very good brands. personally id go for Saphire AMD Nitro series and Nvidia MSI or Asus. no complains
From my experience brother I thought I was having driver issues with my AMD 6800XT but It was my PSU. I would play A Plague Tale Requiem And Steel Rising On 4K high setting and would get a black screen, I thought it was the drivers so I used DDU 3 times and see if it will solve my problem and it didn't. I said to myself maybe it's the PSU, so I decided to buy a good Corsair High quality PSU and my problems went away no more black screens after playing certain games in 4k on high settings.
Welcome to team RED. 😁 I've used BOTH nVidia and AMD GPUs since 2001, that's 22 years, and I can confirm the group-think that "AMD drivers are bad" is a lie. I have had issues on and off with BOTH nVidia and AMD cards, and in fact the only card I had major issues with was my GTX 970. To fix it I made my own custom BIOS for it, so I know what I'm talking about when I say the things I say about hardware. (Retired from 31 years in IT last year) Props for thinking for yourself and taking the plunge. You won't be disappointed.
Remember the 80's? (Pepperidge farm remembers! LOL) That's when we didn't have to fuss about graphics! 16 bit was king! Been using AMD components since 1992. Terrible back then but when the 2000's came, oh wow! Picture was great but lag was so much prevalent! I also used nVidia from time to time. My RTX 3080 works just as well as my 6800xt. The new gen of gpu's is ugh and meh! I will hold onto to these gpu's for another couple of years. Cheers
I used an amd rx 580 for a long time and My only problem with amd i ever had was my Vega 64 that died pretty soon after the warranty was out, but it was a very rare case, but i was pretty disappointed because i paid 700 for it, probably because they went with hbm on that card.
I also have a 6700XT, I absolutely love it, yeah sometimes I wish I can boost that ray tracing, then I think, wth HDR is awesome fuck that shit. I remember having a lot of issues with ATI/AMD drivers but that fit the ATI/AMD merging time. I still have an HD5770 that's still running well. I'm using it to display my server though
I had 5700xt and had horrible experience with stability, got used 2070s from a friend instead. I wouldn't call it a lie, maybe overexaggerated perception. But I'm happy to see they've nailed it now.
I've been very happy with my 6800XT. I did my research before buying (unlike most people apparently) and used DDU before installing drivers. Ive had absolutely no issues and I love it. It was $100 cheaper than a 3080Ti, and considering its very acceptable performance in RTX, I feel as I am missing out on nothing.
@@ompatil1955 Yes it is good for streaming, I know at lest one guy that streams fine using a AMD GPU. And like you saw on this video, it even has a somewhat complete, streaming toolset in the driver control panel.
@@Motorcyclecbr DDU is a software to remove all traces of the drivers of Nvidia or AMD from your PC, if you are changing GPU vendors. Is known that not doing that can cause driver conflicts, so when changing GPU vendors, always use DDU or the special driver remover tool, normally available on each vendor driver page. Uninstalling the drivers as normal is not enough. Thou I recommend seeing tutorials on youtube in how to use DDU safely, because if badly used it can remove more than it should.
Nvidia has a chokehold on people who know very little. I have used both (3070, 6700xt, 4090, 7900xtx). Amd software is better. Fluid motion frames is insane. Nvidia does run rtx better for the same price, but the 7900xtx can smoothly run psycho rtx on cyberpunk. What more can you ask?
@brandonleemoss im sorry, when did nvidia introduce driver based frame reconstruction that works on any game? Surely you dont think nvidias control panel is more user friendly than the adrenaline engine, right? Youre confusing software with drivers. Amd drivers are less stable than nvidia. Their software is far better.
Good for gaming, bad for everything else. Please, don't get me wrong. I absolutely hate Nvidia. Their pricing and performance are shit. Working on ai, offloading lots of computations to cuda, parallelized computing, rendering videos, 3d modeling, rocm isn't even close. Nvidia is shit but unfortunately amd is just even worse in that department. It's only really a good for gaming card.
I'm a massive supporter of AMD and I love their driver software, tones of tuning features but I will say this, when you do run into driver problems it really sucks and is sometimes very difficult to fix. But I can literally count on my hand the number of these problems I've experienced.
Thr one time I had issues with AMD drivers was upgrading from rx470 to RX 6600. Fixed with DDU My Nvidia laptop on the other hand I'm considering beating with a metal bat....
I have had the same experience and it's not like it's something new. I've had this experience for years now but I will admit that AMD REALLY improved their driver during the RDNA2 era. The RX 6000 series is a solid one.

I agree. My R5 and 580 were buggy messes but my current RDNA2 card has been doing fine. Though, I'm not a fan of the restrictive power limits or how undervolts are flat out ignored if you adjust frequency but those are just petpeeves. Drivers have been solid.
Thank you for bringing the ridiculous phenomenon of blind brand loyalty to light. Every company has studs and duds, and objectivity is key to making smart hardware choices. I'd like to see you try Intel's Arc A770 16GB now that their drivers are starting to mature. I think that you'd be pleasantly surprised at how well it does...especially in raytracing.
If I was rich I'd definitely give Intel Arc a try. But right now it's bound to be janky. Specs sound great though. And the high vram is definitely a plus. I was torn between Nvidia and AMD but I quickly realised that in workstation tasks it's a no brainer. Nvidia's encoders are just better than AMD on pretty much everything. Rendering with even CUDA is faster than an AMD equivalent card and with OptiX it's faster than an AMD card a whole tier or two above it. For gaming it's the other way round, except for dlss and RT. If you want to build a gaming PC that does nothing else, definitely go with AMD. (even with poorer RT performance I don't think AMD's price to performance can be beaten). For anything else, (sadly cause I dislike them) Nvidia.

After using both nvidia and amd gpus, I honestly prefer amd's software. They have tons of cool features and all the settings are integrated into one app. theres also the fact that nvidia has quite a bit higher cpu overhead which can affect performance Edit: the software also makes undervolting and overclocking a breeze, and a small but cool thing: the stat overlay is easy to use and pulls up quickly
100% agree. I have a 6600xt and a 3080 and it's way easier to manage 6600xt than the 3080. Also, for whatever reason the 3080 gives me really weird frametime generation, it's never stable, while 6600xt was more consistent (but slower, of course).
I do love amd adrenalin software, it is actually a great "all in one" program, but it keeps randomly crashing or glitching, also somehow my 6950xt works better with the basic W10 Pro drivers than with AMD drivers (installing them means that games will start crashing, screen flickering, random moments of strong stuttering). I have mixed feelings about the card, I really like its performance but for 650$ I was expecting a flawless experience, but unfortunately it has been far from that. I even wanted to return the card but unfortunately I noticed too late that the return period was only 15 days.
I've always used NVIDIA gpus, whether in laptops, or for the last 2 years in my desktop with a 3060ti, but last month, I switched to a 6750XT after having thermal throttling causing my screen to go black on my 3060Ti, and I have had zero issues so far. I've been really impressed with how many features come with the AMD Adrenalin software compared to GeForce Experience. My card has been running great and even with an overclock it runs cool and quiet. I might be a team RED gamer from now on.
We're similar. I had a 3060 12GB (Not Ti) and it was limping everywhere. My 6750XT works perfectly and barely makes a sound unless I push it with benchmarking.

I own a 6800 Asus GPU and it's Been fantastic I can legit run any game over 120fps and I haven't had any issues with it I've been an AMD user my whole PC gaming life because of its affordability power. I'd highly recommend the 6000 series as well 9/10
@@maxdamage4919 Can confirm that about the Gigabyte 6800 XT OC. Mine set its max boost to 2459 out of the box, I have had no issues at all, it's always hanging around 270-280 watts. Very impressive, plus it has a nice custom PCB.
Was using the rx580 since launch in 2017, it was sapphire branded and that beast got me through everything for all 6 years without a single drawback, just recently upgraded to 3060ti and its nice but AMD will always have a soft spot for me since im a broke man and they delivered very well for me lol
two weeks ago i upgraded from the rx580 to an rx6800 -- only because i am using a 1440p 144hz monitor. for 1080p 60fps gaming it is kind of perfect, only struggling on newer games... but still being able to run them. very impressed
After about 10 years using Nvidia GPUs I finally decided to give an AMD GPU a try. Super impressed with the cost to performance ratio! I won't lie though, I did get a bad first impression since the card would not display video even after a fresh install of Windows. My iGPU worked fine when I connected it to the motherboard, but when I connected it to the GPU it wouldn't display at all. Turns out my monitor firmware wasn't compatible with the GPU, I tried another monitor and viola! It's worked fine ever since. My next GPU is definitely going to be AMD until Nvidia can get their act together.
Monitor not compatible with GPU? You had to switch monitor? That's ridiculous! And you say NVIDIA has to get their shit together? I've had ATI and NVIDIA GPUs for decades and frankly, there's a reason NVIDIA is the best. The ATI cards I've had fail more often and have far more issues and limitations, especially in their drivers. Having said that, they're fine too, just the budget choice for sure. And both are way better than Intel's drivers!
🤯🤯🤯🤯 *WHOOOO?????* The monitor turned out to be incompatible with GPU??????? How is this possible?????🤯🤯 Can you please tell me what kind of monitor model it was?
@@Tom--Ace it is not normal that a monitor is incompatible to a GPU. I used a 6900xt and now a 4090 and both worked/are working fine, the AMD card had no problems with a G-Sync Monitor at all and AMDs Adrenaline Software is just 100 times better than GeForce Experience, i really miss it but i need the CUDA Cores for work so i had no choice.
Great video my dude! I went through a similar transition from 3 straight Nvidia cards to a 7900XTX and I was expecting it to be a terrible change experience and it was pretty much no different to a Nvidia upgrade.
That was an amazing video, Mr. Vex. Too many youtube videos focus on benchmarks, but very few talk about the actual user experience. I had no idea AMD had advanced this much, and their software seems great. Might strongly consider switching to red team in my next upgrade.
Yeah Radeon's software is fantastic these days, they've come a very long way and dont deserve all the hate they get imo. People just like feeling like they're on the "winning team" even if they're actually getting screwed.
If you still like to play some older games and think a modern AMD should max out the settings and on some modern monitor like 4K 144hz then guess again. AMD chokes on older titles. All the extra modern GPU muscle goes extremely under utilized. My family likes to play a very old Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed as a PC type Mario Kart. Gtx1070/1080’s before had no issues running this old but still good looking game at 4K. Solid 60fps all the time. Now with 6600xt,6700xt or even a 6900xt the game runs like crap. DX12 games work good for AMD but older dx9,10 or 11 much of the time don’t. And while I get the terrible performance the gpu is barely running like 500-1000mhz clock speed as if something is holding them back or extreme power saving is occurring. I have 8x AMD Ryzen 5000 systems , I am no Nvidia fanboy. If you want to max out older titles don’t buy AMD. With that said even running ultra LOW settings does not help.
@@45eno Weird , I play a lot of dx11 games on my 6950 xt and they run great, pretty much every game ive played besides cyberpunk is running native 4k 60+ fps
@@Dempig It's not all games but some real old ones for sure struggle to ramp up the power. There is something driver or optimization going on. I still play the 2013 Battlefield 4 which is DX11 and it runs pretty good BUT it has similar issues at times. I have a dedicated top monitor to watch my system stats and I will get dips in performance under my 142 FPS cap say to like 110fps and when I look at the GPU it's not even at 99-100% its like 60-80%. And I think why is my frames dropping lower while my card isn't even running max clock speed and fully utilized. I would get it if the game was so demanding that I was hitting only 110fps as an example but then I would expect to see my GPU at 99-100% utilized meaning the card is doing max effort to pump out frames. I see low frames in older games where the GPU isn't half asleep. It's weird. They are great bang for the buck cards but I was really disappointed when I replaced a bunch of 1070/1080 cards in my family rigs for $128 6600XT. Even my 6700XT and then 6900XT has the same issues. These are all on Gen4 X570 boards with 5000 series CPU's w/ SAM enabled.
I have used AMD GPU for a long time and never had anything problems with it, The drivers are always easy to config and I my self use relive for recording my games and never find any slowdown when recording and do like how quiet and energy efficient the card is, Right now am using a RX 590 (yes it is a older card, I get what I can afford)

@INQIZZO yes your right but I have a 3070 already in my 5600x build I don't know what GPU to get for my 5800x3d build I have never used Ray tracing so I don't anything about it
Ive had far more issues with Nvidias drivers, gpus, etc than I ever had with AMD. I just had to switch back to full AMD because of the sheer amount of issues with my nvidia card. Nothing worked, everything crashed constantly. Switched to a 6700 and it has been insanely seemless. I love it.

i went from a 2060M to a 7900 XTX, and the performance is obviously a night and day difference, but the so called "driver issues" that have been plastered on AMD GPUs are non-existent. i've been using my 7900 XTX for the past weeks, and it just feels like i had a nivida card in my computer (but minus nividas dog shit software) Edit: over 1 month update, still no driver issues at all, even when i just install new drivers over the old ones without using DDU
@@StevieDeez I had the same problem (6650XT) with Resolve, have installed the newest drivers yesterday (came out on 24th) and now it just runs competely fine.
Switched to AMD about 3 years ago due to price really but have been extremely happy with my 2 builds in that time. Did have a couple of driver issues when I went to Windows 11 but AMD sorted that with their next driver update and I have been running Windows 11 for a few months with 0 issues. Currently have the RX 6700 XT Dual.
I've had an Nvidia card in my computers for the past 20 years. I'm upgrading my 2060 to a 6750xt today and I'm really excited! Might even make a full switch eventually and get an AMD CPU for my next full build. Though looking at how much Intel Arc cards have improved over the past year it also looks attractive.
I'm looking at the intel arc as well, I really hope the drivers are safe enough for all of us to get our hands on them and enjoy any game we throw at it. I'm sure most non-AAA games will run fine, but I have an AMD build and it just seems easier to buy the native hardware for cheaper as opposed to the arc with double the vram, but is more expensive. Good luck with your amd build, there are currently cpu and motherboard bundle deals going for the am5 line to help if you ever wish to have a place to start.
This is a good overview of AMD's software and user experience. One thing worth noting though: On the topic of AI features, AMD does actually sell cards that work with Stable Diffusion and you can even use them for Large Language Models too, although they are marketed towards Corporate users and are branded AMD Instinct. You can get some of the older AMD Instinct cards used for fairly cheap around 100 bucks, and they absolutely rip through most home user's Stable Diffusion work.
I had an RTX 3060 that I got on Facebook and it was extremely solid. But then I saw an open-box 6900 XT at Microcenter for like 30% less than they normally retailed at. It's been an absolute workhorse and I don't intend to upgrade for A WHILE.
What a good video, I've enjoyed it very much! You give lots of info without drowning us in numbers, and you get a perspective which is closer to a real world buyer rather than a classical tech reviewer. This video simply grabs your attention more than the ones made of JTC, UFD, GN and so on. Don't get me wrong, I love those guys but sometimes I desire a format that is a bit different. This is the first video of you that I saw and I am not fully familiar with your videos but good first impressions. Keep up the good work!
Nice to see these lower tier cards represented, I'm thinking of a secondary build kinda I'm leaning towards an intel system cards and all but might change my mind, now sitting on a higher end Amd cpu and Nvidia card in main rig
I have a 6750xt build and a 6650XT build. I absolutely love both of these cards for 1080p and 1440p. For the price, I couldn't have bought a better card
@@RozKounelakion i got one like 2 weeks ago. I'm playing on 1080p and i've never seen fans turn on, gpu somehow doesnt get hot besides stress tests. I have rog strix btw.
@@RozKounelakion I have a 6700XT and I game on a 4K 65" TV. Obviously, I don't use Ray Tracing, I often have to turn on FSR to Quality (Quality means rendering the game in native 1440p; I sometimes use Lossless Scaling app for games that doesn't have upscaler built in) and I use mixed medium/high settings, high where the quality is visible and medium when I can't see a difference between med and high. When playing on a huge display, sitting quite close to it, you can see every pixel, so rather than particle effects etc it's more important to go high resolution and high textures and my card delivers. About 95% of the games I play this way I get stable 60FPS (my TV's refresh rate) and my GPU is using up 120-140W of power, so plenty of power to spare (I've seen it using max 180W). And I'm talking about 6700XT, 6750XT is going to be even better than that, but maybe a bit more power draw. I actually rather lowering the settings and turn on Radeon Chill (for example randering the game in 45FPS when not much is happening and 60FPS during action) so that I don't turn my PC into a space heater. I always used Nvidia cards but since I built my PC in 2019 using AMD card, I've been building them like that ever since, and I've built a couple of PCs for friends and family. Also, when looking at graphic cards benchmarks, make sure the video is quite recent with newest drivers. The cards got significantly faster since their release a couple years back. Some benchmarks from 2020 seems like 6700XT and RTX3070 are trading blows, but now 6700XT eats 3070 for breakfast.
@@efekangok6317 I don't have any switch but I know some cards have BIOS switch. So it's kind of like two profiles, one focuses on giving you pure performance, while the second one balances performance with power draw. I might be wrong though, it should be explained in the manual.

I loved you calling out people not installing drivers correctly. It truly is a problem on our part, and not the card's. I fell victim to this. My current rig is my first PC, and I'm running a 6750 XT in it. The first few months I had it, it ran flawlessly. Then all of a sudden, after a driver update, I was getting weird screen freezes and black screens. I asked my older brother what it could be, and he said the driver's were, "fighting for dominance". lol. We shouldn't have to uninstall past drivers, but it's part of the PC life and is probably for the better so we all don't have 900 drivers on our PC taking up space in our storage. I love your videos. Please keep up the great work.
As someone who's used AMD in her main PCs for over a decade... People are nuts. I've loved all of my AMD GPUs. My first was a Radeon HD 5750 1GB, then I moved to a Radeon RX 580 8GB, and ultimately ended up landing on a Radeon VII 16GB which still drives my PC today.
My experience is pretty similar to yours except I went HD 7850 > R9 390 > 5700xt. The 5700xt was plagued with driver crashes or the 3 years I had it... so I got fed up and dropped it for a 4070 recently. I mostly play in VR so the 5700XT's issues with video encoding were front and center for me as the desktop streaming to the headset would always hitch and lag; and if I was watching a youtube video in game I'd innevitably encounter a driver crash. There were other issues too like games built on UE4 crashing every now and then.
Even in 2023 I've met with quite a few people who believed that Ryzen CPUs are running hot and other things that were only relevant in like 2016 but thankfully even average Joe customers are waking up to the fact the AMD can be a better choice on both GPU and CPU front depending on your needs.
Nope it's still a problem on games that are not running on DX12 or Vulkan, their drivers are not that great on DX11/10/9 and they're awful on OpenGL, all in all, the great performance of AMD cards on new titles is hiding the fact that they're way behind NVIDIA on old titles, if you play old games you'll find out yourself
Actually first impression is important, no matter how long it was. I’m researching for upgrading my PC and still hesitant to buy team red because of my colleague experience 8 years ago
Rx 480 -> 2070 -> rx 5700 xt -> 3080. I’ve been very pleased with both companies offerings. There shouldn’t be any brand loyalty as each brand is targeting slightly different consumer types. Just get whatever fits your needs for the cash.
Last AMD GPU i used prior to my rx6800xt which i'm using now was a ATI 9200 Pro. Been using Nvidia in between. Must say I am really impressed with the 6800xt and see no reason to ever go back to Nvidia.
@@Oaypy Nvidia are like Michael Jordans of GPU'S....LOL! Your right though! NVIDIA is for those who care about Raytracing and don't mind spending money.
It is awesome to see someone who is used to Nvidia try using AMD. I had been on a 1070 that I bought brand new when the 10 series launched back in 2016. It was the GPU for my first fully custom PC and it kicked ass in anything I threw at it in 1440p for 7 YEARS. Now I upgraded this year and had a choice between a 3070, or an RX 6800. After watching many benchmarking videos, I eventually chose the RX 6800 and quite frankly I was a little scared to go back to AMD, I had not had a Radeon card since an R9-270X in 2013 lol. I was pleasantly surprised at just how good this card is, I am playing anything I want at 100+ FPS, maxed out settings and no upscaling. The card is stable, and I even run with a slight overclock through the AMD software that gives me a good boost. Another advantage is AMDs Smart Access Memory tech (SAM) and that nets an up to 10% increase in FPS depending on the game, you have to be on 3rd Gen Ryzen or better to use it, I got me a 3700X lol
Fun cards to give a go for someone only seeking gaming use cases. There's a few things I wished I had from Nvidia, but AMD's (And Intel for the ones willing to experiment and tinker) performance/dollar is so good, it's pretty solid. All cards are good as long as value's found in a product. I am excited regarding ROCm though. Would be nice to see what the RX6800m can push productivity wise when at its maximum :)
@@inqizzo The drivers for arc have been getting much better, the price makes them pretty tempting for me. Going to wait until they actually make a new gen or arc "ti" equivalent though. Want to see them continue support before I buy them.
I use to be an Nvidia loyalist... With their bs with the 4060/70 no longer they just don't care for budget cards anymore they push you to buy higher and they're more expensive for no realistical reason.
Good video, glad to see you go through a lot of aspects people seem to forget about their GPU and associated drivers. I've been rocking an AMD card since the 480, skipping the ill-fated Radeon 7 and going to a 5700XT, been super happy with my 6900XT. The only issues I have are when Micro$oft "thinks" they know better and force an older or incompatible driver on me via Windows Update. One Safe mode boot, DDU run later, and I'm back in business.
@@danborg1228 If I may, you can go into the [instead of the Update area for some reason in Windows] SETTINGS > SYSTEM > ABOUT > Advanced System Settings > Hardware Tab > Device Installation Settings button, to change if you want Windows to automatically de-update your GPU drivers for you (for some reason you might have to do this twice because Windows). Great review. I had mentioned in a response for another YT video I watched recently - If AMD should use the "ATI" name for the video card division. Since ATI was the Video Card company AMD bought when ATI wasn't doing too well finically. In the 80's and 90's it was ATI vs Nvidia. Just something to ponder over. AMD could make a big event of re-introducing the ATI brand for the Video Card division. That might get back some brand loyalty for ATI.
Back then ATI was wiping floor with Nvidia ...but due to similar shenanigans that Intel pulled against AMD...ATI faded away.Nvidia still hasn't made card that would beat AMD competition in same way that ATI 9800 PRO smashed anything Nvidia could conjure up.
@@freelancerxxx The 9800 PRO is legendary, but they also put out a lot of really bad cards over the years, I really doubt bringing back the ATi brand would help them at all, probably quite the opposite.
Back in the Days when it was still ATI, the mindset was just the same as now (maybe a bit less) nVidia was king and ATI was the budget option.. even when ATI got the way better cards nVidia still sold allot more... sounds familiar?
I find the criticisms of AMD to be either false or completely overblown alongside the Nvidia brand fanaticism. A friend of mine just yelled at me for suggesting AMD as, apparently, "AMD is Trash and has many driver issues." For context, he's never owned a PC, is already an Nvidia fanboy, and is about to get a $4K, 4K UHD "Budget" PC build.
Side note, the "in game" hotkey for the overlay (default is Alt+R) also works on the desktop. Alt+R on the desktop also opens the adrenaline software as if you right clicked a blank spot and clicked it manually
I always go for the best price-performance. My history of Nvidia vs ATI/AMD since the TNT2 times is 6 GPUs from Nvidia, and 5 from AMD. But I think Nvidia has gone crazy, my next GPU is going to be AMD again.
I had an AMD video card way back, a 7970 GHZ Edition, and have not since, but I have to say I'm impressed, really impressed by the Adrenalin driver software. Much more features than Nvidia's Geforce Experience, looks really slick and functional! Saves the need to install a bevvy of other software, that's really cool! My next GPU might well be an AMD, but I have an Asus ROG Strix 3080 OC, so it's urgent to wait right now... I will definitely keep an eye out for AMD GPUs in the near future! Nice video BTW!
Bought a 6800xt last year to replace an aging 1080ti in my second rig. Absolutely fine performance wise and like the interface. Running a 4090 in my main rig. Different price points so i think the budget conscious should not he remotely bothered by going for AMD - they've been fine for me.
Swapped out my 3080 and got a 6950xt and couldn't be happier! Zero driver issues or anything. Loving the cache memory for games like empyrion and 7 days to die.
I haven't had a red team gpu since ati. Recently upgraded to a 7900xtx non ref. It's performed beautifully on a 240hz freesync screen. I was pleased generally with nvidias gpu's, I've had so many of them. Ran 5 different sli configs. But something that has always kinda irked me is how they skimp on vram, especially at launch on flagship or high end gpu's. They do offer higher vram for certain boards eventually but it's well into the generations lifespan, in a way punishing early buyers. This has been going on for a long time now, at least since gtx 580 era. And then their business practices, severely undercutting their manufacturing partners with their founders edition marketing. It all leaves a bad taste.
@@MARKXHWANG with how much vram the new games take, how can you use ray tracing when most of nivida cards come with only 8gb of vram. Even if you get a nividia gpu with 12 or more vram its always going to be over priced and out performed by amd gpus.
I currently use a 6650 XT and it is my first gpu from AMD. Only had problems in the first week when the driver seemed to just disappear, but after that I've had no issues. I have more problems with my SSD for crying out loud! I am happy that I chose AMD for the great value for money
The driver disappearing is a Windows thing, windows update will occasionally screw with the drivers and break things if you allow it. You can thank Microshaft.
@@Son37Lumiereexactly…it’s maddening because AMD has been making all Xbox chips for almost 2 decades now but Microsoft is so incompetent they can’t keep themselves from deleting AMD drivers. And of course because the fanboy narrative about “teh AMD drivurs!” is so deeply ingrained in everyone’s heads people automatically assume AMD is the problem. Which in turn deflects necessary pressure from being applied to MS to fix their idiot OS problems. So irritating.
I started with with 5600xt as my first gpu ever even though I had heard about all the driver issues. I had lots of driver issues with my 5600xt but everything started to smooth out turned out to be a good experience because it taught my how to tweak settings on graphics cards, pc settings, etc . Now I have 6700xt and I’m loving it😀
Do you think most of the problems that people had are user error and easily fixable? Because i had a friend who had an AMD gpu for his first PC and would always complain how laggy and slow it was and would blue screen a lot. And i would tell him that it seems like a user error on his part
I've been in IT for over 30 years, always had Nvidia since they exist. Now I have an RX 6800 and it's awesome. I wonder what you think about the adrenalin package. I was very impressed by it.
My only gripe with the Adrenalin software is that AMD for some stupid reason removed the ability to set single-button hotkeys at one point. It always has to be a key combo now and that's just dumb AF. I want my universal "F12 for screenshot, ScrollLock to record video" back god dammit >:(
I really don't like the overwhelming details on adrenalin. To figure out that your settings can be saved for specific games and in general took me like an hour. Another thing about Adrenalin: You don't need that much settings, since ingame settings of your games are a huge part of adrenalin, which makes it completely pointless to even show this type of information.
@@shavy9655 Do a minimal install then. I see people complaining but not having any IT knowledge. I returned the 4080 FE model as I couldn't stomach $1731 (after tax) even though it is a BEAST of a card and is amazing. Instead got the 7900XT Hellhound and it is AMAZING for the price to performance. I can get 120fps with mostly ultra settings and turn some settings down to high. If you are on the fence and don't want to spend more 1k or more, find an open box 7900XT especially Hellhound and you will not be disappointed!
No matter what anyone says, as an RX 6600 user, I can say this. Although AMD has largely fixed the hardware problems, the drivers have chronic stuttering problems. They haven't been able to fix it for a long time.
I both have different cards from both manufacturers (no Intel yet!), very satisfied with both! In your video, you perfectly depicted the AMD drivers status, simply great for the most! Planning to buy another Radeon 6700XT for a backup gaming pc, really good prices out there! Cheers, M

i was more satisfied with my AMD cards than my Nvidia ones tbh. Had two GPUs of the GTX 700 series, a 970, a 1070 and now a 3080, plus some cheapo office PC gpus. On the AMD side i had the 260x and the 6700 XT. Once when i updated the drivers of my 780 through geforce experience it killed my entire windows install, which was fresh btw as it was my backup pc i only booted once in a while to perform updates and nothing else. AMDs allegedly horrible drivers never forced me to reinstall an entire operating system.
I use both and both brands have been great. My main card right now is AMD and its just an amazing card (RX6800), seeps power, beast of a card @14440p and very very stable
I bought a 6650xt for my first build two months ago and I'm honestly super happy. I'm sure people have had terrible experiences, but all companies are capable of shipping out bad products. My only regret is not waiting two more weeks, since the 6700xt was around the same price as the 6650xt at that time.
The thing is, people don't have bad experiences. They use some anecdotal events (usually from long distant past when AMD did truly have bad drivers) or cherrypicked situations that aren't even relevant to them to justify why they think nVidia is better when in reality when you look at driver problems and instabilities - both companies are on equal footing. One only has to look at every nvidia driver update to see how many problems and issues it has and it has to fix every single time. The list of problems is actually longer on nvidia side than AMD side nowadays. The "AMD drivers are bad" myth died out with Polaris. It's just the nvidia buttbois like to trash on others for not wanting to overpay for the same or lesser experience (lol at 3050 costing the same or more than 6600XT while being over 90% worse xD)
@@egonieser I'm sure every once in a while someone receives a bad unit and decides to fearmonger about AMD, but it's more likely to be a shipping issue though. In all honesty, I'm happy that I did my research instead of going for what's most popular (Nvidia GPUs, Intel CPUs), I saved quite a bit of money and I have had ZERO problems with AMD products. I will be sticking around with this company for a while, I'm already thinking of upgrading my GPU either to the 6950xt or save up for the 7900xtx, but I'm sure neither will disappoint.

My iGPU worked fine when I connected it to the motherboard, but when I connected it to the GPU it wouldn't display at all. That's ridiculous! And you say NVIDIA has to get their shit together?
I've had ATI and NVIDIA GPUs for decades and frankly, there's a reason NVIDIA is the best. The ATI cards I've had fail more often and have far more issues and limitations, especially in their drivers.

Are you dumb AMD no longer has any driver problems. Even if they did would still be better to get AMD because it’s soooo much cheaper than Nvidia
Actually first impression is important, no matter how long it was. I’m researching for upgrading my PC and still hesitant to buy team red because of my colleague experience 8 years ago
@@devostripes5964That's for Intel Arc, not Radeon
And even Arc works pretty solidly on older games. When have you actually USED a Radeon card?
Rx 480 -> 2070 -> rx 5700 xt -> 3080. I’ve been very pleased with both companies offerings. There shouldn’t be any brand loyalty as each brand is targeting slightly different consumer types. Just get whatever fits your needs for the cash.
Last AMD GPU i used prior to my rx6800xt which i'm using now was a ATI 9200 Pro. Been using Nvidia in between. Must say I am really impressed with the 6800xt and see no reason to ever go back to Nvidia.

I just got one for 500 cad and I’m stoked

I still wouldnt buy an intel gpu tho
I use AI for fun and its easier to deal with an NVIDIA card than AMD for those purposes. Otherwise I d buy AMD
Traded a 3060ti for a 6800xt last year. Really impressed with RDNA2.
I will buy 6800 XT too in a couple of weeks. Can't wait, it will replace a GTX 1060. :D
One Safe mode boot, DDU run later, and I'm back in business.
yer that had been my exp to with amd microsoft messing around any one know how to avoid this they are forcing drivers on you ?
A RX7950 ATI with 4090-like performance??
My first card was ATI Radeon 9550 with 256MB VRAM :)
AMD is looking good. Thanks Vex for running this GPU. Peace!
Side note, the "in game" hotkey for the overlay (default is Alt+R) also works on the desktop. Alt+R on the desktop also opens the adrenaline software as if you right clicked a blank spot and clicked it manually
omfg i never noticed that. thanks
I always go for the best price-performance. My history of Nvidia vs ATI/AMD since the TNT2 times is 6 GPUs from Nvidia, and 5 from AMD. But I think Nvidia has gone crazy, my next GPU is going to be AMD again.
Intel is making really good arguments aswell these days, if id have a budget moment theres reasons for intel.

GTX 580 era? The VRAM thing started all the way back in the 8800GTX/GT era. This has been SOP for nVidia for a very long time.
I invested in a RX 6650 XT a few weeks ago and have been very impressed so far.

I returned the 4080 FE model as I couldn't stomach $1731 (after tax) even though it is a BEAST of a card and is amazing.
