I absolutely also use "expired" make-up. I don't think I'd be able to keep track of when I bought/ opened it to be honest. I just use it until I feel I shouldn't, or until it's empty/ dried out hehe xx ❤
If there's a product I've not used often and I can't remember when I got it, I'll throw it out. Otherwise, if it works well, looks fine, and doesn't smell, why would I waste it?
lol same i stiil have and use my too faced semi sweet palette...honestly as long as your not sharing makeup i dont see a problem with it.but as soon as it stops performing the way it should or gets a smell i toss it right away
i also stop using it once a product starts to break me out. like my go to foundation/concealer never break me out until they expire and once i start to break out i usually say it’s time for you to go lmao
My mom always did couponing and had over 45 bottles of foundation at one point. I took it to a womans shelter and they were very pleased to have it. I will never forget one woman told me, “even poor women like to look good.” Amen to that! She also said that when money is tight, even a $15 foundation is too much when that money needs to go to feeding your children.
1000% true! There have been times in the past where i absolutely could not afford a $15 foundation....it would go in my gas tank instead. Drug store can be quite expensive as well unfortunately
The shelf life of makeup begins when it is exposed to air because that's when mold and bacteria can form. That's why there's no actual expiration date on them. It's not expired if it's not opened. It just separates if it sits for a long time.
we definitely need an updated makeup routine with your holy grail products!! would love to know which foundation you are using❤️ - also are you doing your own wedding makeup?
I was about to comment this same thing.. I have to check, though. In my country, the brands don't bring many things nor options so, maybe there was a Cloud lipstick... but nope. Mia has the only eyeshadow from the whole box and didn't even read it properly... This Mia.. :)

Honestly, I'm pretty shure that ''shelf life'' is just a way compagines found to push us to trow away stuff and buy more of their products. I have eyeshadow palettes from high school. I’m 36. Also, the leg make-up stuff came about originally during WW2, when there was a nylon shortage. Women were going to work, and stocking with skirts and dresses were a must. So when they allocated all the nylon towards the war effort, women would use that leg stuff to imitate nylon stockings. Some would even go to the level of drawing a line down the back of their legs with eyeliner, or a special pen to imitate the look of “Cuban” stockings.
I feel the need to clarify this- the expiration date is just a recommendation, its not necessarily THE EXACT DAY, and I mean- its not always right sOoOoOoOo yea 😊 great video Mia this was so fun lol. Low key miss the full face videos 😂
It's actually a legal requirement. Brands have to put an expiration date for them to sell legally. It's the best timeframe to use the product but you can still use it after that date.
Unless it’s noticeably separated or smells off, it does not matter to me. I love to collect makeup and I cannot possibly go through an entire eyeshadow palette in 6 months(which I know is on the back of some of my palettes). I use the makeup until I’m out and then I replace it. It is what it is.
I only ever wear magnetic lashes , you need to let the eyeliner completely dry first though before adding the lashes ,this way they stay in place all day long ! They can take a little getting used to at first though as the magnets make them feel a little heavier than normal ‘glue’ type lashes xx
Mia, what I love most about you, is really just you, down to earth approach to everything, your enthusiasm and appreciation for family and benefits you're hard work has so earned you. There's just no pretence in you, no haughty, "I'm such an important UA-camr/Influencer, now bow down to my brilliance!"... Lol Having achieved such a huge success at such a young age, with over 3m Sub's, is impressive to say the least. It's clear that your mom and dad did a great job raising you and your sibs. It's so heartwarming they way you've incorporated all your family in your business, both on and off your YT videos. You are also funny and I really enjoy watching your videos. ❤️❤️❤️
A hack that i absolutely love lately! With cream products like blush, contour and highlight that separate your foundation when applied with the applicator straight to the face, try to put some on your hand, and then using a wet sponge take some from your hand and apply to the face! Saves the foundation ❣❣❣
I’m someone who doesn’t get much money I’m disabled so I can’t go wild when buying things I don’t necessarily need so I definitely use makeup past when it’s supposed to be expired! Along with I just don’t wear makeup that often, I just smell stuff every now and then and look for mold and if there’s no weird smell or mold I consider it fine 🤷🏻♀️
You make my saddest days sunny. Your mom is pure joy. I lost my mom. Love watching you two. Rekindles what was warm in my life. Miss our laughs and LOVE yours. She’s adorable and I could never mom lol.
The expiry date on a product is from the date its opened so you'll be ok with these products if the seal is still on them. I also use expired products. At the end of the day they're only being used on my face so it's only my natural bacteria on it. Unless it smells or looks weird, I will use it. Great videos Mia xxx
Bacteria doesn't thrive well in dry environments, so powders, like eyeshadow, blush and bronzers are fine to use even if they're decades old! Our parents did that and had no issues, they even have better skin! No health problems 🤔😄 But, mascaras and eyeliners that directly comes in contact so close to our eyes, we have to be careful of!! So maybe just toss those out every year and keep everything else?? 😂😂
If I cared about makeup expiring, I would have to throw everything away without even finishing half of the products (cuz I use them rarely). So it feels great to have Mia by my side when whole internet just "ew"s over barely expired makeup products.Even if it's like 4 or 5 years old, I can use it just fine.
Truth be told, I used expired makeup all the time. A homeless women's shelter would love and appreciate the makeup. They go on interviews for jobs and how wonderful to have their makeup on to bring forth that extra boost of confidence. You are so sweet to think of others, all the time. I really enjoy your videos. Especially your room and house makeovers! 💖
Former Walgreens employee here. Seeing the same brands/item/shade makes me think these were former send backs. We would get emails about the specific items to pull off the shelf to send them back to the Walgreens distribution center. I am unsure what happens to them after that, but I feel like some of these items fall under a "send back". It was usually makeup that had requests, especially if we had leftover promo items (for example idk, wet n wild x SpongeBob collab). Since those have no place on the cosmetics shelf, they either got clearanced out or sent back. Id also see it happen when mid-year, we would have to take a line off the shelf (example, Loreal Lume foundation) so their new Loreal foundation could replace it on the shelf. I suspect the completely sealed items came from something like that!
It would be interesting to see another video comparing these same products but buying them brand new to see if they behave or smell any differently! Also Falscara is so good! No lifting, no irritation, they stay all day, and are easy to apply and remove. You just put on the first step like mascara, stick the lash pieces under the lash, and put on the second step like mascara. With lash strips I always get lifting in the inner corner, and the lashes and glue irritate my eyes and cause redness and puffiness, but Falscara didn’t cause any of that. It looked really good, no lash band and they don’t look at all like they’re glued to the underside. They felt super light all day and stayed perfectly in place, and when I removed them at the end of the day I just used a cotton pad and eye makeup remover and gently removed them. I see myself reaching for this instead of strip lashes going forward. It’s worth a try!
sometimes you just can't tell with smells bc there's some new makeup that smells like chemicals so a smell test doesn't mean anything unless you've had the product before and know the smell of it. either way - love the vid!
Makeup doesn't start to expire before after opening and using it. They have an "expired date" on them which looks like a little can with a number and an M which indicates how long you should keep your makeup after using it (Eg. 12M = 12 months). No matter how your makeup smelled, if they were unopened, there is no way they could have expired. Love your videos!
can we just take a minute to appreciate how cute Mia's little intro clips are for each video like the box opening to say "full face of returned makeup" she's so cute
Honestly...I've got some highlighters and eye shadows that I bought YEARS ago and I still use them and they're totally fine. At least that's what I keep telling myself 😅 "They're fiiiiiine"
As someone who works in a pharmacy, our makeup counter tends to get “renewed” every couple of months. Which typically means someone comes in to check the display and take off any items that aren’t up to date with the new display (e.g. summer display). These aren’t typically out of date, as it does still take a long time if the item is unopened. Where I work, we tend to reduce the items and sell them off at a reduced price separate to the makeup display. But I suppose bigger retailers see more profit if they sell it in bulk to liquidation companies. So don’t worry!! A lot of these items are in date and more than likely untouched!! ❤️
I used an eyeshadow quad that my mum bought in the 70's just the other day, I liked a couple of the colours and can't find them anywhere else, I'm fine, I use expired make up all the time. A tip for eye/lip liner pencils, if they have been used by someone else, you can just sharpen them and they are good to go, my sister is constantly using my pencils and I, or any make up artist really will just sharpen them before using them.
10 years ago I went into recovery and got clean and sober. I went to an incredible recovery program - just a huge house on a ranch full of 13 other women just like me rebuilding their lives and stayed there for months. People donated make up/clothes/hair products/ linens, etc. All of the donations meant the world to us and make up was a big deal because a lot of women came with absolutely nothing. It was faith based so no government involvement, so expired didn’t matter. Just a random idea for you 😘 I love every single one of your videos and I will always be here for your content. Best wishes to you and your family from Seattle💙💚💙💚
Mia, don't feel too bad about using products over expiration dates. First: I'm 44 and have done this all my life, and despite having super sensitive skin never ever had reactions from them. Secondly: apart from foundation and liquids like that, plus mascara most items have a much, much, much longer shelf life than what the packaging says. I can't find the article anymore, but once read a piece from a beauty chemist and she said that a lot of things can be used at least twice as long or even years longer. I am careful with mascara. Because I don't use it that often, I buy a new one after 6months. If you apply daily the 3mo rule is smart bc you can get eye infections. I throw foundation away when it seperates - nailpolish never - and other makeup when its structure, scent or colour changes. But I easily have lipsticks from years ago. Once bought a Dior and a Chanel when I got a work bonus ages back, and have never been able to find the same colour in drugstore brands. But they still look and smell and apply the same. Case in point 😉.
Hey Mia I wished you'd start doing one brand tutorials again there is so much new makeup since you did last ones I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to see it. I've been watching you since you had braces. I'm so proud of your growth!! Thank you for your content!! We love you!
Mia this is so cool also a quick video idea getting hyper realistic cakes and tricking friends and family into believing you are eating gross and inedible food 😊
The elf primer and the covergirl lash blast clean mascara are in my daily makeup. I have very reactive skin and the elf primer has tea tree oil which for some reason helps my skin not get crazy. Also helps me use less foundation. The marcara is one of the only ones that doesn’t make my eyes burn. So imma not question it and just use what works for me. I totally recommend them tho.
The best make-up tip that I have ever received is to put mascara on your bottom lashes first. That way, you don't smear the upper ones while trying to get to the bottom ones. ...and to make you feel better, expiration dates on make-up means nothing to me! Looking as beautiful as ever!
You're telling me I should throw out my liquid eyeliner after two MONTHS?! I should be spending at least $8 every two months instead of just keeping the first one for as long as it lasts. That's insane. I definitely use 'expired' makeup all the time lol
im stuck in isolation because of covid and you have no idea how excited i was to see your video pop up, youtube has been so dry for content atm, however mia has provided the best content for me to binge watch this week xx
I have that hello halo liquid highlight in a duochrome pinky/skintone color and I love it. I use it as a base for other highlight too sometimes. The color you got would be such a good lil base highlight and the powder would stick so well - could be gorgeous! xo
I’m not sure what is your fav but I’d recommend giving the charlotte tilbury airbrush flawless a try! Could be a little drying but if you use a serum & moisturizer you should be good!
I use my makeup until it's GONE 😬😅 I don't even have 1/4 of what a lot of people have, but I can't bring myself to waste it. If it doesn't look gross,I'm using it. Plus,I'm the only person using it,so it's just my germs 🤷♀️
Hi Mia , just to let you know makeup can’t expire unless it’s been opened, if you check the back of any product you’ll find like a drawing with the led open and the number of months that takes for it to be expired , so you start calculating the expiry date ones you open open the product
Lol I bought a new mascara today, I looked at the "6 months" expiry recommendation and laughed. If it lasts as long as my current mascara I'll be using that bad boy for the next 2 years 😂
I absolutely also use "expired" make-up. I don't think I'd be able to keep track of when I bought/ opened it to be honest. I just use it until I feel I shouldn't, or until it's empty/ dried out hehe xx ❤
Me too!😂😂 I think the only people that throw out their make-up are people that got that kind of money to keep up with all the changing make-up trends
unless the smell gets nasty i keep it
The only person I’ve ever known who strictly sticks to the expiry dates is my stepmom and she’d never let an expired product touch her face 😂
If there's a product I've not used often and I can't remember when I got it, I'll throw it out. Otherwise, if it works well, looks fine, and doesn't smell, why would I waste it?
be careful with mascara! everything else I feel like is fine.

What foundation do you use? You should do an updated every day makeup routine :)
I was scrolling the comments looking for this question 😂 THE PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW MIA!
i'm pretty sure she uses the luminous silk one
I wanna know!!
A hack that i absolutely love lately! With cream products like blush, contour and highlight that separate your foundation when applied with the applicator straight to the face, try to put some on your hand, and then using a wet sponge take some from your hand and apply to the face! Saves the foundation ❣❣❣
You're the sweetest person, and love your mother , she's an awesome woman.💜❤️💜
I keep rewatching your videos over and over, it just makes me feel positive
Hi Mia, I’ve been watching your channel for YEARS and I can’t believe I got on a video so fast finally. Have a wonderful day to you and your family❤️
We love you Mia!!! Thank for creating such wholesome and consistent content!!❤️
Can we get a updated get ready with me! I’m so curious on your everyday makeup routine & need makeup suggestions
Even in "expired" makeup you're stunningly beautiful!!
If I cared about makeup expiring, I would have to throw everything away without even finishing half of the products (cuz I use them rarely). So it feels great to have Mia by my side when whole internet just "ew"s over barely expired makeup products.Even if it's like 4 or 5 years old, I can use it just fine.
Loving the videos Mia and would love to see more behind the scenes on your wedding
THIS!
I’m sure the expiry starts from when it opens is what we told in the uk.
So shouldn’t expire until you open it. ☺️
Mia , the magnetic eyelashes that are put with magnetic eyeliner are the best! They will stay on you all day
can we just take a minute to appreciate how cute Mia's little intro clips are for each video like the box opening to say "full face of returned makeup" she's so cute
I am LOVING the frequency of videos from Mia atm
Honestly...I've got some highlighters and eye shadows that I bought YEARS ago and I still use them and they're totally fine. At least that's what I keep telling myself 😅 "They're fiiiiiine"
we dont have the money to replace them every 3 months tbh 😂
as long as they smell the same uwu
Mia, your face being the backdrop for all this makeup is what makes it work. Anything would look good on that beautiful face!
Mia's content is AMAZING!
I'm convinced the expiration date on make-up is just there to make you buy it again every year >.>
What an amazing UA-camr and person you are, Mia! And what an amazing concept of donating to charities. We need more people like you in this world ❤
I LOVE YOU MIA YOUR VIDEOS ARE SO GREAT !
I love it just hope your skin is ok after
10 years ago I went into recovery and got clean and sober.
Honestly, if it doesn't smell or look bad & it doesn't cause some reaction on my skin, I'm gonna use makeup much longer than intended
2:00 - can I just say, you go girl, just keep doing what your doing❤
never comment on videos or anything like that but thanks for being such a kind-hearted person :) i love watching your videos always
Mia: I'm not eating gluten and dairy because I'm trying to see what it does to my Eczema
Also Mia: ALL OF THE MAKE UP THAT I USE IS EXPIRED 💀
The poreless primer is one of my faves as well. Hides alot of lines and large pores.
I want to see mia’s usual makeup routine!
Omg Mia PLEASE try the falscara!! They’re like at home lash extensions. It would be so funny to watch you try them 🤩🤩
Makeup is EXPENSIVE. No way I’m throwing something out after a few months! Hahaha
Mia please do a video on those first lashes you were gonna use! I would love to see how those work/wear ❤️😊
Mia **puts on blush**
Also Mia **color corrects blush**
I love her so much 😂
Fantastic video 👏💖
Hey Mia I wished you'd start doing one brand tutorials again there is so much new makeup since you did last ones I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to see it. I've been watching you since you had braces. I'm so proud of your growth!! Thank you for your content!! We love you!
Does anyone know what Mia’s daily foundation is that she mentioned in the video, the “bridal” foundation? I really want to know what it is now! 😆
I need to know as well!!!
I want to know too 😩
Maybe g. Armani luminous silk
If I remember correctly, she mentioned in a video that it was Armani, but I could be wrong
I believe it's the Armani beauty luminous silk foundation, she said that one was what she uses every day in a video from February!
For the magnetic lashes you need 2-3 coats of the eyeliner. I love them!
Mia was really pumped up to get that incredibly satisifying first pump experience not once but twice from her returned makeup.
pun intended?
The best make-up tip that I have ever received is to put mascara on your bottom lashes first. That way, you don't smear the upper ones while trying to get to the bottom ones. ...and to make you feel better, expiration dates on make-up means nothing to me! Looking as beautiful as ever!
As long as the product hasn't changed in scent and texture, i'm still using it! Especially with powdered products 😂😂
This is the nicest your makeup has ever looked I swear! Love!
"Omg i contour my nose so small, now i can't breath" got me laughing 😄
I have that hello halo liquid highlight in a duochrome pinky/skintone color and I love it. I use it as a base for other highlight too sometimes. The color you got would be such a good lil base highlight and the powder would stick so well - could be gorgeous! xo
yes mia. yes you should. we would be completly and utterly lost without you❤️
Thank you so much for putting so much effort in to all of your vids!
I would LOVEEE to see a video of your current makeup and face routine !! Your so beautiful !!
Never clicked so fast.
Same
YES
I would love to see a video of you doing your everyday makeup. I'm curious what products you use!
