Hi Mia, finally something I can comment on! I work in Brand Protection, so my companies entire job is to act upon things like copyright infringement. This brand is smart, in which they're targeting peoples visualization of other brands without infringement. Unless this brand directly fringes upon something that the other entities have copyrighted (usually names, phrases, and logos) they're actually fully within their legal right to create these products. They also may produce them in another country where the brand doesn't own the copyright or trademark for them, but then technically they can't be sold in the countries in which they do infringe. Their whole gimmick is for people to recognize the packaging shape/elements with a similar enough without infringing name, see the good price- and purchase. I hope this helps someone learn something today, haha.

Btw, YES, as a viewer with limited legal knowledge, esp without much IP background, comments like these are very useful and interesting! Also I have a funny story for you - in 2022, a few regional brands (rural Great Plains) were selling freeze dried candy at gas stations. Never in a city tho, only small towns. I asked one of the clerks if they knew why & they said they are dodging mostly the “skittles” (whatever brand that is) brand protection people. It severely cracked me up that it took them nearly 2 years to change what they call skittles to rainbow chewies. 😂😂😂 also I doubt there’s a brand protection professional who just drives the rural interstate looking for violators…

@@standdownrobots_ihaveoldglory It would absolutely SHOCK you to know how often products are sold in gas stations that shouldn't be! Sometimes literally even counterfeit merchandise representing the brands themselves! And no, we definitely aren't hitting the road to find this stuff, it's mostly all done with sophisticated software that combs the internet for specific keywords, images, etc- and pulls them into a database where they're reviewed by analysts and then it's determined if they meet the threshold for us to act against them and possibly get them removed. I'm really glad that other people find it interesting!! Thank you for your kind words!

What you need to remember is that this brand has been around here in Australia for years. It's available in our local supermarkets and it's half the price of the original brands. Eg. Charlotte Tilbury's foundation costs $70AUD here, the MCo one is $30-40 (depending on whether it's on sale).
It's also not just a dupe brand. It has its own unique products as well.
What the rest of the world seems to forget is that Australia is friggin far away. Getting these luxury brands imported costs SO MUCH MONEY so our prices are always jacked up well beyond the worth of the product itself. That's why I love the founder of this brand so much, she wanted to make these things accessible to Australians
EDIT just to include this: copyright laws are different in Australia, so there's no issue with the packaging

Not to mention, this is the SECOND company Shelley Sullivan has founded. MCoBeauty (of which she remains the CEO) has been around since 2016 which, yes, is three years after Charlotte Tilbury (chairperson) founded her company.
      However.
ModelCo, which she founded (and is still CEO of) in 2001, has been and continues to be super successful. I mean, One of the first products ModelCo released was _only_ the worlds first aerosol spray tan... 🤷🏼‍♀

The markup on makeup, especially luxury brands, is absolutely criminal so I don't feel bad at all if someone else can do the same thing and sell it for less.

It's confusing bc CT does have a foundation that looks almost identical to the Flawless Filter called Airbrush Flawless & it is like spackle. If you think DoubleWear is as thick as it gets, guess again. I think that is what Mia tried that broke her out.
Flawless Filter looks good by itself if you're a low/no coverage fan. I wear it all the time by itself & people compliment my skin every time.

Aussie here 👋🏻 I’ve been loving their stuff for years and had no idea they were dupes 😅 Mco are available at one of the 2 biggest grocery stores in Australia, Woolworths, making their items very convenient to grab while doing the weekly food shop. They also have sales like the other food items in store, so I wait until they’re half off 👌🏻
Their items have helped me enjoy makeup again 😍 I love their brightening glow lux face oil and use it as a primer too, mostly on very dry days (I’ve tried so many primers). Their tubing mascara is amazing and I use their liquid blush in multiple areas, including under the eyes for colour correction.

My understanding is that MCo is an Australian brand & in Australia the "original" products are often not available at all so they'd like to have some kind of an option of the product versus nothing. At least that's how this brand began. You think the "originals" are expensive for us? Apparently when they are actually available in Australia the prices are obscene! I understand why MCo started. It became so popular & successful that now they've expanded to other countries but when they began they offered Australians what either wasn't available at all or was disgustingly expensive the rare times available.

One note about this whole thing with specifically MCo which is from Australia: From what I've seen from Aussie BeauTubers I watch, it can be difficult and expensive to get a lot of the brands from North America and Europe there (especially if they aren't available in Sephora or Mecca), so there's a not-insignificant market for an Aussie brand to make dupes of things that people otherwise may not be able to get, or would have to pay an arm and a leg for because of shipping costs and customs fees.

When people struggle to buy groceries, charging 60-70 dollars per lip oil/bronzer is ridiculous and often times those high-end brands are not even cruelty-free or ethical towards their employees etc. Duping a packaging and offering a nice product seems ok to me, given the circumstances.

Just some context, the brands that you used on the right are way more expensive in Australia (probably due to shipping prices and general money conversion) to the point where mcobeauty is a lot cheaper and actually affordable especially for teenage girls, so that’s why it’s so popular in Australia (Melbourne anyways) - for example rare beauty is affordable (idk if this true but I’ve read articles saying it is a more affordable brand with the quality) in the US but holy shit here the price is insane. We also have a lot of dupe culture (recently at least) cause again it is way more expensive to buy the actual product here than in the US and Canada (like Stanleys, perfumes, drunk elephant dupes can be found at Kmart) mcobeauty and dupes can also be found in drug stores and any shopping centre here but other brands like drunk elephant may only be found in specific locations and specific shopping centres, so unfortunately mcobeauty is usually the first access we to viral products for a cheaper price as it also may take time to get the new items to Australia

The funny thing is that influence marketing literally created this consumer demand. Luxe brava wanted to have all the hype and fomo at their exclusive price points and didn’t expect any undesirable consequences?

It was kinda funny when Mia said, "I look like I'm wearing no makeup, but clearly, I'm wearing a lot." Sweetheart, that's the entire goal of doing makeup in a great way!
Her skin looks absolutely fantastic. So healthy, glowing from within with a bit of flush. Imho, it looks even better on the inspired-by side.
Lately, I've been replacing all my powder makeup for cream, and I've finally found my shade of foundation that's quite natural (more BB cream). Today, I wore the silver TirTir foundation with a Canmake cream blush and a Holika Holika balmstick highlighter. I was honestly already a bit shocked when I looked in the mirror, but when I saw a friend on my way to the supermarket who said, "Wow, you look great today! And you're only wearing a lipbalm and some mascara. See! You don't need much!"😅, I knew this would become my new go- to!
PS. Bought the Catrice dupe of the Flawless Filter stuff. It was half the price of the ELF - in case I don't like it, that's less money thrown away. According to a UA-camr I trust, it's pretty much exactly the same as the ELF in texture, longevity, result, shades etc, just a tiny bit less coverage. Can't wait to try this under the TirTir AND as a standalone. 95% of the time, my makeup goes over a bare face (unless you count moisturiser/spf), but it would be amazing to have natural looking options for bad skin days and fancy parties.
I wish everyone their own holy grails, but what's more; to have a great feeling when looking in the mirror. Preferably without makeup, too, but if you're doing your best on 'the paint,' it better boost your self-esteem (even more).

MCo beauty is my favourite brand ( it’s pronounced em koe ) I’m obsessed with mcobeauty. I’m from New Zealand and I love having a brand that sells products for half price. Because I am a teenager and I use quite a bit of makeup now, using mco, helps me choose what makeup style I like ❤

12:24 omg you look so gorgeous with a glowy base! Honestly it makes you look your age - I think matte looks are a lot more “mature” (not a bad thing!) and can age people (also sometimes a desired effect!) your skin looks beautiful

As a consumer, abc Australian one at that, I do not care about brands being duped. If consumers get more options, more power to us because we have no e in being marketed to relentlessly by high end brands who drive up that fomo.

This Brand is Australian. We have different copyright laws down under.
Just another note, in Aus and NZ we cannot get alot of products the rest of the world can get . If and when we can it is way way expensive, you can times the price by 3 to 4.
I love these products as they are easy to get and cheap.

Hi Mia, this brand is sold in New Zealand and Australia. We don't have easy access to most of the more expensive products. Make-up in New Zealand is incredibly expensive. Mecca prices, if you can find one, are insane.

I love that the MCo is cruelty free, so I don't think they are stealing a product, they are making it better. There is no reason to torture an animal for makeup.
