    I have a roll of Ikes used as examples to Congress. These are type 1 1976 used to show Congress of the striking problems the mint was having with the 1976 Bicentennial original design. The 1976 Bicentennial Eisenhower with the Apollo (Eagle) Lunar Lander original design on the obverse that I have is only 1 of 3 known to have been struck before the mint die broke. This prompted Congress to change the law on the eagle being minted on coin dollars for that year. The roll of these Eisenhower 1976 type 1 were meant to be shown to Congress and destroyed soon after but made it into my collection.

    I have several Bicentennial sets with the Ike dollar and I gave them a good lookback again. I found about 5 of the Type 1's and 7 plus Type 2's. (alot of numbers there!) They are still in the Mint packaging along with the other coins that came in the sets. Not sure what to do with them at this point. Beautiful coins imo. I grab them whenever I can. Side note....I went to my Bank last week and a guy came in with $90.00 in what I though were all Kennedy Halfs. After searching through them I got a stunning Franklin, several 90% Silver and $41.50 in 40% Silver. Some are in, I think, very close to Uncirculated. Pure luck going into the Bank at that time. Super score!

    • @audreymuzingo933
      @audreymuzingo933 5 років тому

      So the guy came in WHILE you were there? Could you flesh out this story more, like were you in line and he was ahead of you? Were you there to ask for halves? Did they appear to all be rolled by the same person? Was there any apparent rhyme or reason to how they were rolled (like, by date, condition, etc.)? I ask because I'm endlessly intrigued by half-dollar stories (also dollars to some extent). A few days ago a guy on Facebook posted his photo of the INSANE amount of treasure he got in a recent search of halves (I think it was a whole box but can't remember for sure). Anyway it included tons of silver, even Walking Liberty. I'm not a big half-or-dollar searcher (yet), but I definitely have a by-proxy interest in the game. From what I've seen, it can be anything from a giant pain in the butt, to an unimaginable windfall. I've seen whole-box searches turn up no more than a few 40%'s and one or two 90%'s, not at all worth the trouble of getting your bank to order the box, coughing up the $500, and then dumping them at another branch (or whole other bank), which ticks them off. I've seen numerous half-dollar fanatics posting bitter rants about their banks cutting them off, and then tons of people replying how this is an expensive pain for banks, it's not what they're in business for, "people like you are going to ruin the hobby for all of us" etc., and I can see those arguments but I also get the allure, because of stories like yours. Clearly what makes these > quarter coins such an ambiguous gamble is the fact that you almost never receive them as change from stores, they're not used in vending machines, they're so close to pure novelty that you're almost never going to get them unless you aim to (IOW you're a hobbyist). So when you get a bunch of rolls from the bank, each one is very likely either a trash dump from a picker, or the clueless dump of somebody who inherited from a collector, or stole from them.

      @@audreymuzingo933 We moved an hour or so south from Greenville, SC and I had to open a new account. I had the account open for about two weeks when I went in to do some transaction. Deposit or something. Anyway this Bank is in podunk, SC and is big but hardly ever has much traffic inside. Surprising for the size but again it's located in a VERY small town. I've never had to stand in line there the few times I've been in. So yes, I'm standing there and I see the guy come in and I saw he had two HUGE bags of coins. I'm talking he was literally dragging them in and I told him I would buy ALL of it. But as fate would have it he said they had to count it and such. Odd. but I didn't press the issue. Anyway he told me that his Dad had died and he had been collecting for years and these coins ...well..he was just gonna cash them in!!!!! And of course I'm thinking to myself , "how in the world can I convince these Bank folks to hold them and let me buy them"? Long story short..I found out the Senior Tellers brother collects coins. Well guess what happened to that potential treasure trove? Yep...she finagled them out somehow. I think I know how but oh well....Luckily I got the halves he had rolled though. So I got a little treasure but I believe I could have gotten so much more. And since that happened and I had asked about the bags he brought in the Tellers (3 of them) have clammed up and now say they don't get anything anymore. Small town shenanigans. So I don't ask anymore. When I was living up in Greenville though my bank there would order me anything I wanted and I got LOTS of Quarters routinely. And a couple times I ordered up to $2000.00 in halfs. Never got much of anything from those boxes. Now I did get $200.00 in halves and the third roll I opened my jaw hit the floor. Right on the end was a 1857 O Seated Liberty Half! It wasn't in great condition but still. Date was legible and it would probably grade at about good. Usually my best finds was from a guy who owned a Laundromat. He would come in with a water pitcher and deposit $500.00 of Quarters. I found 90% Silver and some actual proofs. Not a lot but still good finds. But the greatest find was from that $90.00 of Halves which I ended up with over $50.00 face in 90% and 40% silver. I figure with Spot Silver prices I was up over $500.00 just in melt value not to mention some of the coins were in BU condition!!

      @@Mr51Caveman ~ I wouldn't hold my breath on a response from Audrey Muzingo. The only reason you got a reply was because of a comment I posted yesterday. Check out the reaming out I got from Audrey Muzingo.
      I see where you got slapped around with a few nasty insults as well as a lecture about your choice of finding coins. As I pointed out about old BlueRidgeSilverhound, he wants the subs, but never responds. I see where your original post was 1 month ago. Then out of the blue you receive a reply?? She cherry picked you after jumping me about my comment. Coincidence?? I think not. But, old Audrey wanted me to prove my point and I did. I posted to her insults about an hour ago. She was probably checking to see if I had responded to her insulting diatribe. But, my story is true and correct as I posted the video I made this morning, Then also gave her a real coin channel that does reply to their subscribers. You didn't deserve this reply. She's covering for the old BLUE. My proof is above. ^^

    Thank you. It was informative and explained well, clear and concise!
    Although I knew it, the Type 1 and 2 differences are now easier to remember, having been described with simplicity.
    Perhaps, you might address this question:
    What is the difference in VALUE between a Graded Coin versus the same coin in BU (brilliant uncirculated)? Does it depend on other factors? Say for example I'm looking at a Graded Carson City Morgan and comparing its market value with the BU version of the same date and mint mark.
    Question 2: What is the difference or is there a difference between one grading company and another? For example, NGC or PCGS are well known and highly reputable. How about a grading from ACG or ACGS?

    I think for me the easiest way to tell a Type 1 from a Type 2 is to look at the letter A. In the Type 1 the hole in the letters A & R is tiny compared to the font on Type 2. Especially the R, going by your side-by-side at 3:10

    The easiest way to determine a type 1 Ike is looking through 1975 bicentennial unc sets. This is the year that they come from . The only way to determine it is to look through the 1975, ie :the 1st year they started making bicentennial sets.
    The type 2 were all made in the 1976 unc sets.
    So I would suggest that if you go to a dealer only ask to see the 1975 unc sets. Both the P and the D or either or should be a type 1.
