If the fuse is blown for your power tailgate lock, you can find the fuse built into the wire harness. Here is a link (with pictures) to help you locate the fuse you are looking for 😁👍. www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tailgate-fuse.778749/
Also, just FYI, the 3rd gen Toyota Tacoma does not come with a factory power tailgate lock option from the factory. Toyota does sell an OEM Power Tailgate Lock Kit as an "add-on" feature, which is what my video is all about. You can find links to the items in the description section of my video 😁👍. I hope this info helps!
Excellent vide berry well done. I will do the same installation on my Tacoma, my only questions is by removing the plug under the passenger seat will be a potential water filtration?
8:46, how well in place should that piece be? Should it be able to be pulled off or locked down firm. Great vid wish I used it for my install but clicked a different one 😂
That "tooth-lock washer" should be pressed down well enough so that it has "a good bite" & will not pop off, but it doesn't need to feel like it's "welded on" (if that makes any sense)... I appreciate the positive comment! I hope this info helps (even though it may not be the most "technically correct" answer) 🤣.
@@LevelUpMechanics haha I think I got it, I got it to a point where I could pop it off with my finger without out too much effort which worried me, but I did test it a bunch without any issues before putting the tailgate panel back on. Might have to get back in there justtt to be sure lol
The same here! I just completed the install and it went very smoothly. I feel good that I bought the OEM harness because everything fits without and issue. Thanks for the video!
Thanks man, just installed today. This vid was helpful. I found the new wiring looms/brackets to be a pain. Pretty tight fit. Other than that, good to go. Must have mod when you work at 4am in the dark like me. Fumbling around with that key in the pitch black was no fun.
I'm a little confused. The wire harness that runs along the passenger side should be included with the Toyota OEM tailgate lock kit. Were you unable to install it? 🤔
I also just installed mine. Well done and thank you! The book of instructions that was included was intimidating, but after this video it was a piece of cake.
The wire harness (included with the kit) has a grommet already attached to it. That way, the harness can still cover the hole. This is one of the reasons I went with a Toyota OEM kit. Quality parts 😁👍.
Thank you so much! Question- when installed on drivers side would that mean tailgate unlocks on first unlock with drivers side? Just trying to figure out what I would prefer.
You cannot install the wire harness on the driver side, it doesn't work that way. You have to install the wire harness on the passenger side, no matter what. The connectors you plug into are only found on the passenger side. As far as unlocking is concerned, you will have to press the key fob unlock button once to unlock the driver front door and a 2nd time to unlock the rest of the doors (and the tailgate). I hope this info helps! 😁
@@LevelUpMechanics thanks so much! I think I prefer that way too. Another install I was watching installed it on drivers side however it was the “pop and lock” so maybe that’s the difference.
My truck didn't have the wire running down the truck to zip tie it to. I zip tied it directly to the inside of the frame that little cubby area there, hope that's okay.
@hannahbruni6051 that's correct, the double cab Tacoma with the 6' bed is the only Tacoma that is considered as the large wheel base version by Toyota. 😁👍
Now you have a hole under the seat for water to splash up into. You should have cut the plug that was in there in the middle and pushed the wiring thru keeping that seal in place. Maybe a little silicone to make it water tight too. Other than that not bad at all.
The power tailgate wire harness already comes with a grommet built onto it in order to seal / cover the hole under the seat. Everything is OEM, and there are no issues with water intrusion... The kit is a little pricey, but it is definitely worth it, in my opinion 😁👍
Used this great video as a clear concise ready reference for my own successful install today…! Thanks for taking the time to post, it saved me a ton of time and a lot of angst! The only area of frustration for me was the orientation and secure fastening of the two new supplied body mount wiring lomb clips (tailgate and the box)….other than that…..easy peasy…..

Nice. I still haven't had a chance to take my Tacoma on any adventures yet (owned for 1 year so far)... but hopefully that will change soon. Good luck with the OEM Bed lights (it should be straightforward since your Tacoma is pre-wired for them) and congratulations again!
@@LevelUpMechanics thank you! I already reprogrammed for one touch of handle or one press of key fob to unlock all doors. Tailgate kit is ordered and planning to install this week.
The heat shrink on the harness sold me over pop a lock kit and R4T kit Will this fit my 21 Tacoma SR double cab 2.7L ? I just ordered the short wheelbase from BAM wholesale.
This power lock tailgate kit should fit your Tacoma just fine 👍. As long as you have power door locks, you should be good to go! Let me know how the installation goes for you.
when i look up the part on Toyotas part store it says the vechicle fitment is for limited, trd off road and trd sport. i have a 2023 sr5 with auto locks/ push start ignition. Im assuming this kit will work but any idea if its only for those models mentioned?
I don't know why Toyota lists it for only select Tacomas, but this power tailgate lock kit will work for yours. I have yet to hear anyone experience "compatibility issues" with this installation. You should be fine 😁👍. If you end up installing this, let me know how it goes.
Installed last week. Definitely a great upgrade. I did notice my kick panel had a crack in it before i removed it. Anyone know a part number and good place to get a new one? Black interior. Thanks for the help. And thanks for the video on the OEM tailgate kit
Cool video, one question will this work for keyless entry? Like I use my hand on the door handle to unlock my truck and I set my truck to open all door from driver side door not just passenger side door. My question is will this work this way?
Yes, it should work for keyless entry. I changed my settings to unlock all doors when touching the driver front door handle... and it unlocks the tailgate at the same time. I hope this info helps!
If you know what you're doing, it would probably take about 1 hour to install everything. If you need to take your time, then probably 2 hours lol 😆. The install is pretty straight forward and the parts are "plug & play". I think the hardest part is just routing & securing the wire harness (but even doing that is not too bad).
Yes, the kit comes with both plastic & metal zip ties 👍. The kit comes with EVERYTHING that you need to install it 😁. As far as fluid film is concerned, I think you should be fine. The wiring is completely encased inside a wire loom for protection, so you shouldn't have any issues 👍. I hope this info helps out! 😁
The OEM wire harness comes with a grommet built onto the harness. No modification needed. Just remove the old grommet and route the new wire harness through the hole and the new grommet (built onto the harness) covers the hole. Hope this info helps!
Great detailed vid and install! Thanks for sharing! I previously bought a Pop n' Lock that now has crapped out after a few years and I purchased this very same OEM part. Couple of things I would've done differently is gone through the cabin floor grommet rather than discarding it (though I'm not sure that is possible if the connectors on each end are too large), and I wouldn't tie everything down until testing the function. I'll find out first hand when I install mine. Clean job!
Actually, this OEM power lock kit comes with a wire harness that has a floor grommet built onto the harness itself! You'll see when you get the kit 👍👍. As far as testing is concerned, I did test it before tying everything down (I just did it off-camera 😆).
My Tacoma is a 2017, and it works just fine 👍. I don't know why Toyota markets this kit for only 2019+ Tacomas. Don't listen to Google this time around. A ton of people ask me this question, but I have yet to hear of one person who had any issues. This kit will work for 2016+ Tacomas.
The bed retainer clip just snaps out, and the new one just snaps in. The wire harness connectors up front are all different sizes / shapes, so there really isn't a way to mix them up. The wire harness also has a grommet already installed on the harness, so all you have to do is take the "old plug" out from under the seat and route the harness through the hole. I hope this info helps! 😁
There is a grommet that is built onto the wire harness itself that plugs the hole up. You can kind of see it in the video when the wire harness is sitting on my passenger front seat.
I think you are referring to the "star lock" washer that is pushed onto the hinge to keep the actuator rod attached to the hinge, correct? I don't know what size it is specifically, but you should check this Amazon link to see if we're talking about the same part... amzn.to/3sZgKe5
A lot of people agree that the oem option is a lot quieter than the Pop 'N Lock option. OEM is definitely the better choice 😁👍 Thanks for checking out the video!
@@LevelUpMechanics I noticed this morning that my BSM is giving me a warning "Check BMS system" message. Do you know what might be causing this? Thanks!
BSM stands for "Blind Spot Monitor." I would double-check the connectors by the passenger front kick panel to make sure that everything is correct. Worst case scenario, you could unplug the tailgate lock harness and reconnect the original connectors together again and see if the "BSM" message goes away. If it doesn't, chances are likely that the problem isn't related to the tailgate lock harness... I highly doubt the tailgate lock harness would be the reason for this issue, but temporarily unplugging it would let you know for sure (either way). Keep me posted, as this would be the first time I've heard of the OEM tailgate lock causing an issue with other electrical components...
@@LevelUpMechanics found the problem. I totally missed plugging back the "BSM" connector. my bad. Thanks for pointing me to double-check the connectors on the passenger kick panel. Everything is working now. Thanks for your help and quick reply!!
According to the Toyota dealership part PK3B6-35JS0 is for Model 2019 and newer. We are planning to install in a 2018 Tacoma Short bed model. Do you know if the connectors or harness will fit?
Honestly, I do not know why. I haven't been able to find a legitimate answer to this. All I know is that it works for all 2016+ Tacomas. I haven't had any issues since installing mine... Still going strong so far 😁👍
This OEM option is 100% "plug & play" and is quieter than the pop-n-lock version. The pop-n-lock version also requires you to splice into wires and tends to fail sooner than the OEM version.
I routed mine to same little fuse but on the drivers side (I watched a different video unfortunately) but now it doesn’t work. Does that matter? Or is something else the problem?
You probably need to relocate / reroute the oem harness on the passenger side... I'm not quite sure what you mean by "routing to a fuse on the driver side". The Toyota OEM power lock wire harness is designed to be "plug & play" with the wire connectors found on the passenger side of the vehicle (behind the passenger front kick panel underneath the dash).
Unfortunately, I do not know the specific size of that locking washer. I would recommend either contacting Toyota directly, or purchase a lock washer kit to figure out what size works. amzn.to/3sZgKe5 I hope this info helps some.
I just installed this kit. I could see that I needed more clearance to fit the wire protectors at the tailgate and the bed. I rigged a small platform with a piece of plywood and a bench. The plywood rested on the bumper and the bench. I partially removed the tailgate on the passenger side, angled it rearward several inches, and laid it on the platform. The extra three inches of space made this part of the job much easier.
That is good info to have if someone is having trouble removing / installing the wire harness clips between the tailgate and the bed of the truck. Thanks for sharing! Great advice 👍
The power tailgate lock is just as secure as the manual tailgate lock. Technically, all you are doing is adding an electrical solenoid to move the existing mechanical lock mechanism. I personally like to be able to lock / unlock the tailgate by using the key fob or by touching the driver front outer door handle. I know it's not for everyone, but I like it 😁.
That is correct 😁. If you have a double-cab short-bed, then purchase the short wheelbase option. If you have a double-cab long-bed, then purchase the long wheelbase option.
Will this lock my leer camper shell as well? If not, is there a way to wire this were it will lock both leer camper shell and tailgate at same time? I am pulling power for the Camper shells brake light through the back left tail light. Any help is appreciated. :)
Unfortunately, this kit is only designed to lock & unlock the tailgate. My dad has a Leer camper shell on his Tundra that has 2 handles (one on each side of the back window) that have lock cylinders built into the handles. I assume this is the same for your shell? If so, you would need some sort of mechanism (controlled by an electrical circuit) that would physically move the position of each handle into a locked / unlocked position when commanded electronically (some type of power lock / unlock mechanism). Unfortunately, I do not know if Leer makes a power lock mechanism for their products, but if they did, then theoretically you could wire it to lock & unlock the topper in conjunction with the tailgate OEM power lock kit. I just don't know if there is an option available to actually do this. I wish I could be of more help. It looks like it may be possible that Pop & Lock actually makes a solution to add power locks to the Leer camper shell. I would recommend doing a quick Google search to see the options that they provide, based on the shell model that you currently have. Happy hunting! 😁
My 2020 Tacoma Access Cab did not come with keyless entry. I have added an aftermarket keyless entry kit. Will this work with an aftermarket keyless entry kit?
I honestly do not know. If your factory Tacoma key does not have a lock / unlock button on it, then there's a pretty good chance that the factory kit won't work (but i do not know 100%for sure). You may have better results by integrating an aftermarket Pop & Lock Kit (or the Runnin4Tacos version) to your aftermarket keyless entry system. I would probably go this route if I were in your situation. I wish I could provide more accurate info, but I hope this helps out 😁👍.
Can you still lock and unlock with the key? Reading some weird things on the forums, wondering if you’ve tested it in the event the actuator were to die
Yes, you can still lock & unlock the tailgate manually with the key 🔑. I have verified this. The actuator rod that attaches to the hinge for the key lock cylinder is a "floating" rod, meaning that you could pull / push the rod in an out manually with your hands (without powering the actuator). The actuator itself does not lock into an open / closed position. It just moves the hinge that has the hardware attached to lock 🔐 / unlock the tailgate (just like the key lock cylinder does).
@@LevelUpMechanics thank you! Well not sure why these other guys were doing this aftermarket lock then. They claimed if the actuator broke it still has a separate locking rod locked. So they came up with a method to pull it without using they key....so much for security. Seems OEM is the way to go

PK3B6-35JS0 - short wheelbase - you should be able to find a link for the short wheelbase kit in the description section of my video 👍. I hope this info helps! 😁
You don't have to as long as the ignition is off. However, it's always safer to disconnect the battery whenever you do electrical repairs / upgrades. This kit is plug & play, so you shouldn't have to worry about it. But it won't hurt anything if you want to play it safe and disconnect the battery 👍
I don't know. I purchased the kit on Amazon. There should be links to the power tailgate lock kit in the description section of the video. But, as a general rule, everything is more expensive when you purchase straight from a dealership 😁.

You can find links to the items in the description section of my video 😁👍.
I hope this info helps!
thank you!
@peters5311 no problem 😁👍
Excellent vide berry well done. I will do the same installation on my Tacoma, my only questions is by removing the plug under the passenger seat will be a potential water filtration?
No, if you look closely, the wire harness has a grommet built onto it, which covers the plug. 😁👍
Thanks man I really like all you videos high quality keep up with the work!
No problem 👍. Anytime 😁
Wiggler! Wobble socket? No. It’s a wiggler. 😆 love it
Lmao 🤣 I mean, that's the technical terminology I use as a professional technician, so it must be legit 😂
Thank you! I just installed my lock and your video was a big help. Thanks!
I'm happy to hear that the video was helpful! 😁 Thanks for your support! 👊👍
That is awesome 👌! Thanks for watching!
Great video! Thanks! Give me the confidence to buy it for a Saturday morning project.
I'm glad to hear it! The installation is pretty straightforward, so you shouldn't have any issues 😁👍. Let me know how it goes!
Thanks man, just installed today. This vid was helpful. I found the new wiring looms/brackets to be a pain. Pretty tight fit. Other than that, good to go. Must have mod when you work at 4am in the dark like me. Fumbling around with that key in the pitch black was no fun.
I'm glad to hear that the video was helpful! Definitely a useful mod, for sure... 😁👍
Thanks for the video! Received this for Christmas . My Tacoma didn't have the wire hardness running along the passenger side. My Tacoma is an SR5.
I'm a little confused. The wire harness that runs along the passenger side should be included with the Toyota OEM tailgate lock kit.
Were you unable to install it? 🤔
Excelent Video. It worked for the 2023 Tacamo Sport 4x4 as well.
Thanks! I'm glad to hear everything worked out well! 👊👍
Great video!!! Question, when you ordered the lock also comes with the wiring? Or that’s something that you have to order apart?
The wiring harness is included with the lock actuator 😁👍
I also just installed mine. Well done and thank you! The book of instructions that was included was intimidating, but after this video it was a piece of cake.
I'm glad to hear that my video helped out with your install! That's awesome!
Great tutorial. I just finished installing this kit and all went well. Thank you 🤙🏼
That's awesome 👊👍. I'm happy to hear that the video was helpful!
Fantastic video, thanks! I was hesitant because I have an ‘18 but it worked fine.
I'm glad that my video was useful 👍
well done and thanks for the proper video! I love the robot sound it make when engaged haha
No problem 👍. I'm glad the video was helpful 😁.
Sounds good - Does the key still works if the power lock fails. Or would a defective actuator jam the lock, in the locked position?
The key still works. Should the lock actuator fail, you can still open it with the key 🔑.
@@LevelUpMechanics Thank You
Anytime 👊 👍 😁
How do you seal the the hole under the passenger seat? I’d be afraid rain water could splash up and get the carpet wet.
The wire harness (included with the kit) has a grommet already attached to it. That way, the harness can still cover the hole.
This is one of the reasons I went with a Toyota OEM kit. Quality parts 😁👍.
What keeps the carpet and padding from getting water and dirt infiltration where the harness comes out of the cab?
There is a rubber grommet built onto the wire harness to seal the hole that the harness goes through 👍
Thank you so much!
Yep, that's definitely the difference 😆. I know the oem option is more expensive, but I really like the fact that everything is plug-n-play.
Does the front harness have a replacement grommet for the transition under the seat? If not how did you seal this?
The new wire harness will have a grommet built onto it 😁👍
Thank you. Really helped me get it done !!! Appreciate and be safe.
Anytime 👊 👍. I'm glad to hear that the video was helpful 😁
Your step-by-step instructions was excellent 👍👍👍👍👍. Thank you.
I'm glad to hear that the video was helpful! I appreciate the positive feedback 👍👍👍👍👍
My truck didn't have the wire running down the truck to zip tie it to. I zip tied it directly to the inside of the frame that little cubby area there, hope that's okay.
If it's secure and the power lock works, you should be good to go 😁👍.
Great video! Does anyone know if this works for 2023 Tacomas? I have a 2023 TRD 4x4 Offroad
Yes, it will work for your 2023 Tacoma 😁👍
@@LevelUpMechanicsthanks for the info!! I’ll be getting this soon. Also I imagine the Large Wheel Base means 6ft bed right? I have the 6ft bed
Wow! That's great to hear! I'm glad that my video was useful for you.
I really appreciate your positive feedback and for watching the video!
@@LevelUpMechanics I took delivery of my new 2021 TRD Pro here in 🇨🇦….just two Saturdays ago and I’d viewed your video
previously. After watching your post it gave me confidence to buy the OEM Kit at the time of delivery and plan for a later DIY. Today was the day and I couldn’t be happier….many thanks again👍👍
That is so cool!!! Congratulations on your new Tacoma! And kudos on your first successful mod!
Do you have any future mods planned for the Tacoma?
@@LevelUpMechanics Second Tacoma for me…first was a brand new factory ordered 2008TRD Sport….enjoyed and privately sold just 2 weeks ago…12 years of virtual trouble free enjoyment! Next mod is OEM Bed lights. My new TRD Pro is noticeably more powerful and light years more refined. Spent the last 3 days pulling my adventure trailer in the Rocky Mountains near Banff Alberta. Toyota for life!
Nice. I still haven't had a chance to take my Tacoma on any adventures yet (owned for 1 year so far)... but hopefully that will change soon. Good luck with the OEM Bed lights (it should be straightforward since your Tacoma is pre-wired for them) and congratulations again!
Thanks for posting this, it was very helpful
No problem 😁👍
I like that socket set, I've been looking for something to take on the junkyard trips, perfect. 👍
Same 👍. I really like it because it doesn't skip sizes like most of the other sets you'd usually find at a store...
Will the new tailgate lock work with the door handle actuated lock and unlock function as well as the key fob?
Yes, it will work with both the driver front touch handle and the key fob (if you press unlock on the key fob twice to unlock all doors) 😁👍.
@@LevelUpMechanics thank you!
I already reprogrammed for one touch of handle or one press of key fob to unlock all doors.
Tailgate kit is ordered and planning to install this week.
@bubba.watercraftj7269 nice 😁👍. Good luck with the installation! Since this kit is plug & play, it shouldn't take too long.
The heat shrink on the harness sold me over pop a lock kit and R4T kit
Will this fit my 21 Tacoma SR double cab 2.7L ?
@@LevelUpMechanics will do, thanks for the quick response!
@pzpatrick anytime! 😁👍
Awesome Video Kristopher!! keep em coming man!
Thanks! I appreciate it! Will do 😁
Installed last week. Definitely a great upgrade. I did notice my kick panel had a crack in it before i removed it. Anyone know a part number and good place to get a new one? Black interior. Thanks for the help.
And thanks for the video on the OEM tailgate kit
Here is the part number for the passenger side kick panel (or cowl trim): 62111-04050-C0
I hope this helps! 👊👍
How do you cover the hole under the seat to stop water and snow to come in???
The wire harness has a rubber grommet that is pre-assembled onto the harness itself 😁
Just installed mine today 👍🏽 thanks for the helpful video 🙏
Glad to hear that the video was helpful! 👊 👍
How long did the install take? Thanks for making the vid!
Does it come with metal zip ties? Will fluid film undercoating damage the wiring?
Yes, the kit comes with both plastic & metal zip ties 👍. The kit comes with EVERYTHING that you need to install it 😁.
As far as fluid film is concerned, I think you should be fine. The wiring is completely encased inside a wire loom for protection, so you shouldn't have any issues 👍.
I hope this info helps out! 😁
I have a 2022 Tacoma TRD PRO. PK3B6-35JS0 is the correct part to add power tail gate, yes?
As long as your Tacoma has 4 doors and a 5' bed, that is correct 😁👍
@@LevelUpMechanics Yes. Thank you!! GREAT video! I'll be following it when I do my install. :)
That's awesome! I appreciate the support 😁👍
Nice! Well done video. I'll order one and put in my new 23 Tacoma Limited.
Nice! It's definitely a great upgrade 👍.
Just one question. How did you replace or seal the bottom grommet? 🤔
The OEM wire harness comes with a grommet built onto the harness. No modification needed. Just remove the old grommet and route the new wire harness through the hole and the new grommet (built onto the harness) covers the hole.
Hope this info helps!
@@LevelUpMechanics many thanks!
Anytime 😁
@@LevelUpMechanics just subbed. Keep the informative videos coming .
That is awesome! Thank you for your support!
When I Google search the kit, it says that it won't work for my 2018. Any thoughts on that?
My Tacoma is a 2017, and it works just fine 👍. I don't know why Toyota markets this kit for only 2019+ Tacomas. Don't listen to Google this time around.
A ton of people ask me this question, but I have yet to hear of one person who had any issues. This kit will work for 2016+ Tacomas.
Thanks, I edited my original comment. The video and comments helped me with a successful install. Cheers.
So the hole under the passenger seat - what plugs it up after the wires are run through?
There is a grommet that is built onto the wire harness itself that plugs the hole up. You can kind of see it in the video when the wire harness is sitting on my passenger front seat.
@@LevelUpMechanics I sees it!
Lol 😆 nice 👌👍🤣
Short wheelbase would be all models except crew cab with 6ft bed?
That sounds correct to me 😁👍
Has there been any new issues with tailgate lock after the install?
Nope. It's been working just fine. No problems whatsoever. It's been a couple of years so far, and I have no regrets 😁👍.
I misplaced the clip that holds the actuator
Any idea what to look for ?
I think you are referring to the "star lock" washer that is pushed onto the hinge to keep the actuator rod attached to the hinge, correct? I don't know what size it is specifically, but you should check this Amazon link to see if we're talking about the same part...

Wow, the oem is lot quieter than the pop and lock aftermarket. I was gonna go with that one too. I like this one more.
A lot of people agree that the oem option is a lot quieter than the Pop 'N Lock option.
OEM is definitely the better choice 😁👍
Thanks for checking out the video!
I wonder if this will fit a 2016?
As long as you have power door locks, it should work 😁👍.
Thanks for the great video! Just instalĺed the OEM lock on my Tacoma.
No problem 👍. I'm glad to hear that the video was helpful 😁.
I'm glad to hear that you figured out the issue. Now it's time to sit back, relax, and enjoy that power tailgate lock 🔐 👊👍😁!
So does this work with the older sr5 model I have a 17 sr5
As long as you have power door locks, it will work 😁👍
According to the Toyota dealership part PK3B6-35JS0 is for Model 2019 and newer. We are planning to install in a 2018 Tacoma Short bed model. Do you know if the connectors or harness will fit?
It will fit, guaranteed 👍. Mine is a 2017...
So it will fit 2017 tacoma as long as you get the right bed size?
You are correct 👍
@@LevelUpMechanics why would they list bit for 2019 + when they could make so much money listing it correctly
Honestly, I do not know why. I haven't been able to find a legitimate answer to this. All I know is that it works for all 2016+ Tacomas.
I haven't had any issues since installing mine... Still going strong so far 😁👍
Thank you. Do you still like it? I am planning to buy it. Thank you
I'm glad the video is useful! I still am very happy with this oem tailgate lock kit. It still works great! I highly recommend it! 👍👊
@@LevelUpMechanics thanks so much again for your video. It is great.
Thanks for the support! 😁👍
Why this kit vs the pop and lock? I think this is OEM good and quieter
The Toyota OEM power lock wire harness is designed to be "plug & play" with the wire connectors found on the passenger side of the vehicle (behind the passenger front kick panel underneath the dash).
anyone know what size that locking washer is? Mine didn't come with it!
Unfortunately, I do not know the specific size of that locking washer. I would recommend either contacting Toyota directly, or purchase a lock washer kit to figure out what size works.
amzn.to/3sZgKe5
I hope this info helps some.
My 2016 Tacoma has a manual tailgate lock. I think it is much more secure than a power lock. Just leave it locked all the time.
Thank you for your reply👍

Hello
Thanks for the video I have a 16 tacoma off road will this kit work with my tacoma? Thanks 🙏

Nice vid I am going to purchase the kit, I can’t wait. Does this kit come with the metal zip ties .
The kit comes with both the plastic and metal zip ties.
Seems OEM is the way to go
No problem. Glad I could help out!
Did it come with the metal zip ties?
Yes, it did. The oem power tailgate kit comes with EVERYTHING you need to install and is 100% plug & play 👍

Did you disconnect the battery before work or is it not necessary?
You don't have to as long as the ignition is off. However, it's always safer to disconnect the battery whenever you do electrical repairs / upgrades.
This kit is plug & play, so you shouldn't have to worry about it. But it won't hurt anything if you want to play it safe and disconnect the battery 👍

Thanks for watching! 👍👍
Great video, just to confirm; I also have a 2017, but the part number pulls up description for 2019-up, is that the correct part? It will work with my 2017? Thanks
You are correct. Part Number PK3B6-35JS0 will work for your 2017 (my Tacoma is also a 2017 double-cab short-bed).
I don't know why Toyota markets this kit for only 2019+, but as long as your 3rd Gen Tacoma has power door locks, you should be good to go!
