I learned the channel lock method 10 years ago. Get a pair and wrap electrical tape around the jaws so you don't bite into the polymer. Squeeze the bottom of the mag with channelocks in one hand, and press down the tab with a punch and slide the plate out. Game changer!
I use a small inexpensive c-clamp to apply pressure on each side under the retention tabs. Then just slide off like any other magazine. Makes life much easier especially with the Glock single stacks.
Just a thought: Safety First. I'd wear safety glasses when disassembling anything with a spring under tension, but that's just me. By the way, that tool from Fix It Sticks looks like it'd make a nifty bottle cap remover!
I thought that when I was little. That the alphabet groups showed people how to do things right. The atf would show how to use guns right and to make stuff right. I was way off.
I struggled bad when trying to get the floorplates off with just a punch and ended up damaging them. Good thing I was only taking them off to put on an extension. I will purchase the tool if I ever need to do that again.
Oops. I used a c-clamp to apply slight pressure to the base of the mag body and pull the baseplate off like any other mag. The slight pressure squeezes the tab out of the locking notch slightly allowing you to remove the plate
I have an ALG magwell on my Glock 34 and it’s not compatible with gen 5 mags because the factory floor plate has an extended lip. Chat, do I just dremel the floor plates or buy new ones?
I've always squeezed the sides of the magazine down by the base, to let the base pull off freely. I do have a 10 round G19 magazine that I have never been able to get apart.
This tool does not work for magazines with +2 floorplates I use a punch and a Tool to depress the sides of the magazinbody and so the detentions are not mangled
@@redcat9436 I was joking, but truthfully I think the tool was designed with armorers in mind. Unless a private owner has dozens of dirty magazines needing cleaning at once, I'd use a punch.
I actually made a similar tool out of a small pair of channel locks, mig welder, and a piece of metal tubing stock. It’s wasn’t because I really needed it and wanted to rebel against buying a tool, I just wanted see if it would work and it did.
Glock could and should make a magazine floor plate that isn’t a pain in the arse to remove. All the other pistol manufacturers do it. Why can’t you, Glock?

c-clamp is for weak hands, I can disassemble any Glock mag with a Glock armorers tool, it just takes a little practice
@@mmgee That would be me, nowadays, lol. In my 60's, hands not as strong as they used to be.

Brownells, Inc., Your videos always brighten my day, so I subscribed!
Would love to see an AFT expert try that
First you will have to show him which part of the Glock is the magazine.

Just ordered the tool for $7. Thank you.
The baseplate tool is a must have. They can be had for $5 and take all the fuss out of it. Plus no chance for damage.

Tell us more about the tool box you have on the bench????
Nice Forward Controls mug.
thanks for the help
Good to know for my PSA Dagger magazines.
Please put a link to the tool

Glock makes shorter base plates for 19X series mags, but are they available for sale?

How do you remove the the floor plate from a Glock 31 round magazine
“Reads size of punch without readers.”
Darn kids 😊
I read that and chewed my Ricola...
Whats the name of that tool
So the trick is to have the tool for that? Helpful

Pro tip: don’t aim the bottom of the magazine at your face while removing the base plate
cool
I drilled a hole in the top of a aluminum bottle opener and put a steel dowel in it , walla !
Now do it with a Glock single stack mag. Those things are dummy hard to remove.
remember kids, if you manage to remove the floor plate just cut the plastic locking tabs from the magazine and you'll have a normal mag.
The at4 in the gun safe
Why would one need to remove a bunch of base plates?
I guess because some Glock fans can't stand the idea of using unmodified OEM parts.
Because sometimes magazines need to be cleaned.

Those extra tabs don’t work too well with the GS Tactical Base plates 🥴

The $5 glock punch works great

@garywixson8852. Have you ever tried to take apart a oem Colt 1911 45acp magazine?🙄🇺🇸🇺🇸
