looks handy. I've only disassembled 1 glock mag ever. after that 1, I figured I'd only take em apart if I really need to and I haven't yet. I do want to get some plus 5 baseplate one day.
Armed Rebellion47, I agree. I think that Gaston Glock did a lot of things right when he invented the 1st pistol, the 17, but I think he should have used the same design on his magazines that almost everyone else in the world has been using for multiple decades.
Actually it does. I just bought one got it in the mail today and remove my Glock 20 magazine base plate. You just Gotta go a little harder than you might think you need to.
Great spokesperson. A real Dork when it comes to guns. Remember always point your gun in a safe direction he says as he starts out the video pointing the gun straight at the camera without clearing the chamber! Good ole Lenny, he makes me smile
I love my G17 but the mags shouldn't require a tool for disassembly just my opinion, love the magpul simple design. This tool is amazing and glad it was designed and made!
@@Cordova10-8 they don’t have to come out and ask, their factory gun is lacking so much it’s implied. They are the ONLY manufacturer I know that requires a tool to remove the mag base plate
@@RepentorPerish77and they have the most reliable mags available. The only reason you would need one is to add an extension, and that’s not an issue to 99% of people.
Hopefully I can save people some frustration/money. I held a mag in my left hand with my fist against my knee, with a metal punch inserted into the back I pushed straight down with my right as the , I was sitting in a chair which probably made this easier, you only have to get the plate forward 1/4" then it slides off easily. I'm not a glock guy, the only reason I have the mags are because of my sub2000, but other than a strong punch that's really all you need and you won't damage anything. I watched this video because I didn't wanna mess anything up as I've never taken the base plate off of a glock mag before. But seeing how mdt worked I just grabbed a metal punch from my set and took off 3 from oem glock mags pretty easily.
Thanks for the magazine disassembly tool video Lenny....! Nice machine shop, and glad to hear, and see you are making products right here in the good ole USA. Cheers, and God bless..!!
I have never had any issues using standard Glock punch tool. You just have to insert it all the way into the mag base plate and there will be no bending of the tool at all. This will save you at least $20 if not more. Some of these tools are rip offs. Just like the one to reassemble your firing pin. Just use the hole at the rear of your slide placing the firing pin sleeve in the hole and push down on spring and reinstall spring cups. Anyway the tool looks like it does get the job done for those that want to dish out the money for a $30 bottle opener.
Great tool, great instructional video. Just be careful when you crank down on the magazine plate, because if you are not careful the hole will deform. Then, you will have an oblong hole.🤓☝️
I just bought 4 new mags and changing out the plates were a chore! I ended up using the underside lip of the counter to get enough push to pop the plate loose. New mags are tough, once you pop em once or twice its not so bad.
Inside Glock mags are locks on the left and right side, If you pinch the outside of the mag near the base plate, it makes this easier, I was able to do it with a tiny screw driver.
Thanks for your comment, Mr. Arrogant. I don't like the firearms situation in California anymore than you do but smart mouthing isn't going to change it. You might keep in mind that this post is about a magazine disassembly tool, not the state of CA firearms law.
I was watching all these videos until I came across this video trying to get this baseplate off to put on my pinky extension on my Glock it took me at least 40 minutes🤦🏾 until I seen this video and it only took me one second if that after seeing this video to realize I got this tool 😅 just like that it’s old one off new one on wow😮💨🙄🤦🏾 and would’ve never thought to do that🙃🤣🤣🤣
2022 and Glock mags are still a pain in the ass to disassemble. Fortunately my gun runs Pmags w/o any issues & disassemble w/o special tools or muscling 🤣🤣🤣
I've done the whole punch point thing doesn't work I've other videos where the problem is, is the two little clip things on the side where you gotta put pressure on the two side to release the baseplate, why does this look soo damn easy for -_-
gimmick all the way, take a punch as he showed and get a good size vice grips, adjust the vice grip to squeeze just enough to pry back the plate. there are small tabs on the side of the mag and if you take your mags apart a lot you can strips them off
I want to know if that's an after market spring. mine aren't silver or chrome like that. mine are also new. Only 640 rounds out of the both of them and they are like a copper color.
Would love to visit your store, unfortunately Kalf won't let me CCW, as with any other state with anti 2A laws i don't travel there, my money spends just fine in pro 2A states just fine. Now if we get national CCW i will be seeing ya.
Not if your just using it for a bottle opener! Just kidding, I'm not the manufacturer but I would say not for the amount of times you actually have to take this apart. it's pretty tough stuff.
Pretty slick tool! Very unfortunate that it's necessary though. The locking tabs are a stupid design feature that makes Glock mags unnecessarily difficult to disassemble. I can take down the mags for my XDE very quickly and easily with literally any random object capable of moving the floorplate the short distance necessary for it to disengage from the baseplate and my thumb.
Don't do it this way. Get yourself a pair of channel locks out of your toolbox and a dish towel so you won't mar the magazine body. First push the base plate lock down into the magazine with Glock tool or punch. It will stay down by itself. Put the channel locks around the mag near the base plate (with the dish towel under it). Squeeze lightly (to disengage the locking tabs) and the base plate will come off easily. No chance of destroying the locking tabs or the base plate lock hole by trying to lever it off with the locking tabs still in their place in the locking holes. And save yourself the 30 bucks.
Why are glock mags not designed with takedown in mind? All my mags are damaged and really messed up from simply taking them apart and cleaning them. I don't like that about glock. Gotta damn near break the mag to get it open.
So, The reason it's so hard to get off is on in the inside of the magazine, there's to locks, to need to pinch the left and right side of the mag, right above the base plate, then use a punch to slide the plate off, It's 100x easier to do when you pinch, You don't need this specific tool.
This video is from 2016. We are in 2019 and the nightmares continues with the assembly extension grip. All guns should be shipped with that device.

This works great. 5 base plates swapped out in less than 15 minutes.
Use a C-clamp to push the base of the mags( mild pressure) in while you stick a punch in the base plate. Works like a charm
yup

Glock 26 Gen 5 - changed the magazine cover, used the tool - 3 minutes.
Seems obvious Glock doesn't want you to take mags apart. Way too difficult.
It's incredibly useful, but they charge so much for such a simple. I wonder if anyone has a 3D print design.
You can find them cheap on Amazon. I got a kit with the mag tool, front sight tool, and some kind of punch tool for less than $15.
He could save us 40% if he moved his operation to fl. No need for some fancy tool to take a mag apart. Ball point pen will work every time.
