But I do know I made this for Buffer Film Fest 2023 and it's always a ton of fun to be a part of that. Thanks Buffer!

Understimulated into boredom or overstimulated to a point where you can't focus- ADHD makes conversations tricky. I tried to put my own thoughts under the microscope to help others understand why I can never finish a story and how I can't remember things we talked about 5 minutes ago.
This was made for Buffer Film Festival 2023. Thank you to the wonderful people at Buffer for everything :)

Realizing I had adhd helped me go from “god I’m so annoying” to “wow, I was able to cook a good meal! What a nice day”

As someone with ADHD, I can tell you that Ginger is actually very healthy for you, and it does NOT make your skin pale. Also, wanna hear about what happened 6 years ago?
As someone with autism, sure, but be warned because I might start talking about an event that happened 6 years ago that relates to my special interest
@@typemasters2871So I’m not the only one?
So similar yet so different, pretty
hell yeah
NUH UH BECAUSE GINGER CAN BE PUT IN PALES SO YOUR WRONG!!!1!
The "don't interrupt me" hit so freaking hard. Being involved in the conversation helps me focus and listen, okay.
Why not just sit still and nod encouragingly? Works for me and I don't even have AC-DC
@@Blitterbug Because thats the thing where you go zap
They are talking about D4C
@@Sarah12471 haha nice
proper social educate is to pause in between thoughts in order to give the other people in the conversation a chance to speak.
Like, obviously, that's the best way to have a conversation. The alternative is someone sitting and listening to a monologue.
I feel this too
I frequently experience the “no, I swear that your work story reminding me of an iguana fact makes perfect sense” thing. There was a whole mental odyssey of connections I’ve gone through that the other person just wasn’t aware of, so it seems completely out of nowhere.
that is a good metaphor for what having ADHD is like: a mental odyssey. Dividing attention, focus, awareness, thoughts, emotions, it's just a big interior expedition to find everything your brain needs even for one conversation
I only have autism not ADHD but I do have that mental connection thing, where things that dont seem connected just link up in my head.
YES! It’ll get really confusing, because I’ll start talking about how “The other day he did blah blah blah” and because I had that ‘mental odyssey’ I feel that it makes perfect sense, but they don’t know who I’m talking about AND they were talking about wanting to sign up for soccer or something like that.

This animation is so good. It should win some sort of award.
I know you can tell there’s a lot of effort
This perfectly describes why I hate “how are you?” because like, what do you say? Just saying something like “pretty good” doesn’t make any conversation, so i feel like i should say something more than that, but also not too much so it’s not annoying? We should collectively say something new and not as confusing to respond to.
1:51 I just realized the table is a penny, truly the most accurate description about how useful adhd is during convos
“A penny for your thoughts” was my immediate thought on that
at 0:01 the windows in the background are Germany
When it zooms out the table is made from two stacked on top of eachother, so I thought it was about “giving your two cents” on a conversation

this is genuinely helpful. almost all of my friends have ADHD and this will help me be more considerate.
The quote I always use to describe a conversation with two people with ADHD is that you will start your conversation at squirrel and it will end at shower heads. And if it's a conversation with someone without ADHD when the other person has it? That conversation ends right at squirrels after you blurt out some psycho fact about them making you look unstable...
Alternatively, you'll start your conversation talking about strawberries and that'll be the only thing you'll talk about for the next 5 hours without a single break
@@thesquareanimator5161this sounds more like autism xD then again there's alot of crossover between the 2. (I'm autistic and my best friend has ADHD)

@@Colyl0R I agree cause hyper fixation is indeed a trait of ADHD

A description I heard years ago was, ADHD/ADD is like having several tabs open and you flip between them every 4 seconds while listening to music.
good
This is probably the best representation of adhd in media I have seen. It avoids the trope of audio compiling a bunch of random whining noises, and actually, quite originally explains the process of your adhd brain trying to fix itself from beings sidetracked whiles getting sidetracked in a weird meta way. It shows that you’re aware but it’s hard to fix because it’s your brain itself that is flawed. And fills in the much lacking void in most videos on the topic.
ADHD haver, this is so damn relatable. Random bits of the conversation opening new tabs in your head like wikipedia links, reminding you of random bits of info that you now really want to share even when the conversation has long since moved on from it etc.
Also "I am sitting here talking but now my head itches/clothing suddenly no longer sits correctly so now I must f i d g e t"
Same. I always have to have some part of my body slightly moving or else I just feel weird
my best friend acts JUST like this, and the best thing that has ever happened was her reading a story I've been writing and anotating it with ALL of her random thoughts she gets during.
It took us 2 hours to disect 4 [short!] chapters worth of the story, I love it
I'm a writer and I find this both cute and insanely neat for getting inspiration.
Great idea!
I wish I had a friend like that in my life. The closest I can find is my mom, but I need someone outside my family to be able to understand me like mom does, since she's not gonna be around in a couple decades TT_TT
Awwww!~ Echy You'll find someone , hugs from me ☺️. it so nice that you have that with your ma though cherish it while you can so you can look back on those memories
@@rottenchameleon it helped a lot! She caught weird sentence structures that I didn't notice, she needs a smooth read and her stumbling over my wording was a sign that it was off or unneccessarily complex. they also just were really funny and out of pocket-
@kiwimiwi5452 That makes so much sense!
My texts are quite the difficult read as well. I am certain that your friend can catch something that studied editors can't.
I wish ADHD people had places in society like you gave your friend!
Let her know that some stranger on the Internet thinks she would make a great line editor!!
As someone who was diagnosed with ADHD, this is exactly what happens in my head
Ok
I love how there are significantly more yellow thoughts than red ones
I think the most relatable and accurate part of this is the one central voice trying to command control but he really only has just as much control as all the other thought processes.
ADHD and ASD here, so there’s even more social skill issues. I’ve never seen such an accurate representation of trying to hold a conversation with these conditions! Amazing job with the animation as always, Gingerpale :>
Yeah, I feel you. Autism plus ADHD is this video, but I can't stop noticing the tiny sound your chair is making and that you missed a hair shaving and that the lightbulb buzzes slightly, and that the sun is reflecting brightly off the edge of something metal and that...

The worst part is sometimes I go to work, hyper focused on what I'm gonna do, but then I take a break or someone asks me about something, I explain and then I'm distracted for the next 6 hours until I go into panic mode and start doing everything I could've gotten done in an hour, 6 hours ago.

I'd that this is totally... like the most accurate to what it's like.
I find this really relatable.
What is worst is when your teacher tells you important information but you can barely pay attention to what the teacher is saying
it’s accurate how a adhd person can think and talk i should know im one i tend to space off than interrupt the person because i aint got a clue what their talking nor did i want to be rude but i didnt care sometimes im up front and say “not in the mood” or “Dont care”

if i have ADHD, it's currently undiagnosed, but let me tell you, I feel so painfully called out right now, especially with the overanalyzing how something crashes to the floor

Now if only I could stay focused for long enough to actually release a completed product
My brain constantly is running a random image, music, my thoughts, what, I see, what I hear, what i feel, memes, and games.
These videos are amazing, I didn't realize why I liked them so much aside from their goofy humor and art-style until I was actually diagnosed with ADHD, this video was extraordinary and tbh I want a sequel!
“It’s true and relatable” is my exact reaction to this video 2:43
I have the opposite of ADHD, OCD. I get stuck on thoughts and not able to move on. The part I related to most were the yellow thoughts, "We don't talk about those." Only, instead of many different yellow thoughts, it's one yellow thought constantly and infinitely cloning itself until the glass breaks.
The pain is real
My son and I both have ADHD and I just want to say thank you for making this. It's terribly accurate but also fun. :)
It's so funny cause I've seen people with ADHD do the opposite of this to.o. One example off the top of my head is when a neurotypical asked them how their day had been going and they interpreted that to mean that the other genuinely cared about how they were feeling, so they went into a long rant about how they were really sad recently for several reasons and then the other person clarified that they just wanted a simple yes or no.
Yeah, as someone who is neurodivergent I do the tangent kind of response 'cause I think they actually want to know, I've only ever gotten the yes or no thing from neurotypical people so it was interesting to see some neurodivergent people also feel like that-
It depends, because as someone with ADD, I give "yes or no" answers to people I have no interest in talking to. If I have interest in talking to them, Im open and honest. Plus, saying they only wanted a "yes or no" despite sharing their struggles is kinda rude... Ask and you shall receive.

That helps me understand a lot! Thank you! :D
And ikr! Even if they weren't expecting that response, this person still opened up to them and they just shut them down TwT I felt so bad for them.

Thanks GingerPale, this video is very true and relatable! 🙏
Yellow ones are so relatable like "I can end it all right here and now and they will find me in 5 days minimum"
In my experience, my thoughts only really start wandering when the other person is boring as shit. I don't have trouble focusing when they have something interesting to say that I actually want to hear.
As someone with AuDHD, this is one of the most relatable UA-cam videos I’ve seen
is audhd austimsmsmsbvfhmfx bjhvhju kgxhkux dh plus adhd?
It's either like this, or the complete opposite where you feel like you're dominating the conversation and the other person says nothing.
I am not diagnosed with ADHD, but I relate entirely with every single second of this videos.
as another person with adhd, i can't find anything more accurate. especially the part where he talks about one singular part of the conversation when spacing out.
As an autistic person, I can relate to this (this is why it’s sometimes stressful for me to socialise and/or I can’t always concentrate on important stuff). Sometimes I just have too many thoughts in my head and things get too overwhelming to the point where it feels like my head could explode, or it’s sometimes the other way round and I have ideas about what I want to say but either I struggle to get them across properly or I’m scared I’ll dominate a conversation with stuff only I’m interested in without considering others.
as a guy with ocd the part where the thoughts made your brain explode and one of the ‘we don’t talked about them’ thoughts just tried to worm its way out was weirdly relatable to me
Oh em geee sameeee
I fill in details whenever people are talking so I can think about something else and listen back and forth. My brain cycles in and out of focusing on their words every few seconds. It's like multi-threading on a CPU (or something like that lol).
i find that nodding my head and maintaining eye contact as best i can to be the best ways of engaging myself into a conversation and really processing what the other is saying
but honestly this experience is at its worst when it's a conversation in a language i'm still learning because it's ghat much more difficult to focus on sections as you're processing them at an immensely delayed pace that is also much more taxing than in my native language
Sometimes I have to do this thing where I tap my foot really fast but then people ask me if I’m alright or if I’m having anxiety and I have to explain that “No, my brain is just weird”
Hooray, one of the 4 animation UA-camrs that I have subscribed to has posted for the first time in idk how long! And whats this? A 3 minute video?! Man you know just what I need.
ADHD and ASD here, the best thing you can do is be funny and know your audience, that way when you completely derail the conversation at least someone laughed at your funny joke about shrimp fried rice that went "you're telling me a *shrimp* fried this rice?"
The aggressive "Don't. Interrupt me." when he's just trying to be involved and make clear that he's listening
I love the animation style it's so good!👍
circletoons sounds weird in this episode

As someone with ADHD i have a conscious state, subconscious state and a “ok” and “i see” automated state

This is exactly what goes on in day to day conversations for me 💀
I relate to this a little too much for my comfort.
3:22 lol
I always love when people do brain animations like this, so creative and educational even.
As someone with undiagnosed ADHD, this is so true. I'll literally be sitting around and then realize, "wait, someone's trying to talk to me", and then zone out again.
Just a heads up, you shouldn't self diagnose yourself, I'll give you this one since ADHD is very easy and common to self diagnose because of how common it is and easy it is to spot but at the same time self diagnosing shows a lack of respect for people who are actually diagnosed as you could just be fidgety, naturally fast thinking or just younger than 16 lol, and not fully understand what people with the actual illness go through on a daily. ADHD is a lot more than what's portrayed in this video though, no mental illness should be seen as just "quirky" yet that's what I've noticed a lot of self diagnosers do - they claim to have something in which they clearly don't and treat it like a personality trait and that their just so "quirky and different" E.G you cant diagnose yourself with bi-polar without seeing a professional as that's just very disrespectful "my mental illness is not your sweater to wear" stuff like that, and you likely don't have it. Personally I have all been diagnosed with both of these things so I'm just a bundle of "fun"
as a person diagnosed with ADHD, completely relatable, still never able to have important 1 on 1 convo's lol
That feeling of being in a fog is spot on
I’ve never been diagnosed with adhd, but the thing with the seal was highly relatable. If someone gets the wind in their sails though and proceeds to describe their whole day I zone out and listen to music instead of going into total thought meltdown
This is actually relatable, although my head doesn’t blow up in the end.
The *biggest* relatable moment in this video was one of my thought people saying “fuck you” to one of my other thought people.
This is so true I always end up being like “dude focus on the conversation” and then I pick up on ONE detail and go on another brain tangent
I’m a person with ADHD and this is my brain every day. 0:29
I don't think I have ADHD, but I do struggle to hold any form of conversation unless its about a very pointed topic I happen to know alot about. I basically can't do smalltalk of any kind, and its tough for me to pay attention to or care about anything other than my own interests. As a result I sort of do this to, but not really because its some kind of attention span issue- I'm just so unbelievably apathetic to nearly everything that I can't be bothered to lend mental energy to anything other than my own thoughts. Its weird, and I hate it, but emotions are not a choice and I don't really get to choose whether or not I care about any given thing. Either I just so happen to be interested in a topic or I'm not and there isn't really an in-between
the feeling of losing focus midway through is real
My ADHD just makes it so I only pay attention to bits and pieces of a conversation. And it's only what my brain translates to important stuff.
This is the pinacle of animation 2:57
Wow an ADHD video that I actually can’t relate much to! I don’t have ADHD but most “adhd” videos are stuff that I can relate to completely, and while some things here I do, like fidgeting, all of it is not relatable to me at all! That’s great!
Look at this neurotypical NERD here
Get ‘em, boys
Very accurate but this whole video happened over the span of 10 seconds and its nonstop looping
as someone who um is like this in the brain without diagnosis um

This is the most relatable piece of media I have seen in a while
As a person with ADHD I actually like hearing people talk about everything of their day or if I do it because I find it nice But I might get distracted by Something they say or side tangents but if you enjoy having conversations. 1:52 When I was in elementary school I used to do this. One day, halfway through one of my classes, my teacher brought up birthdays (I don’t remember the context), but after a moment the conversation went back to whatever we were learning that day. I kept my hand up the entire class, and when she finally called on me at the very end, I told her when my birthday was. She asked me why it mattered and that’s why I don’t like to add input to conversations :,D
