Obviously peppers have flavor but I heard that the human tongue has no receptors for the actual heat part of it (or spiciness) meaning the heat itself isn’t a flavor. It’s literally just pain! :3
ITS HIM THE ONE, THE ONLY, ham owner.
I like *pain.*
Ooh, Haminations!
I don’t understand lol
Yummm... pain :)
I remember going through covid when all the food was flavourless mush for me. I lost my appetite and felt kind of depressed because of that. Then one day I've ordered some really spicy Korean food and it was the first time in over two weeks food had something to it. I couldn't smell it or taste it in normal way, instead it 'tasted' like pain and it made me so happy back then.
I remember when i had covid i’d just shower my food in anything spicy i had and just abused my tastebuds until it was over
After I caught covid I could actually handle and really like spicy food when I absolutely hated it before which is fun
S e n s a t i o n
Considering this is past-tense and I've seen a few people say this: did flavor return eventually? And is it possible the spice kick-started that restoration?
@@QuikVidGuy for me it was rather a natural healing process (month or so). I didn't observe any connection between spicy food and getting back my sense of taste and smell. I've heard from my doctor that zinc supplementation could potentially speed up the treatment of those senses, but I'm not sure whether it does help.
I don't usually comment but just as a fellow artist to artist, I can't lie in the fact that when ur vid popped up in my feed just recently (today), it absolutely delighted me & like you were part of my childhood so this was just overall comforting & super duper awesome. I'd like to mention the Szechuan pepper, which is used in a lot of southern Chinese cuisine. It's not really spicy, but leaves more of a buzzing numbness on your tongue kind of like a really weak persistent soda.
Damn, that sounds good
The numbness it leaves is pretty wierd beacause it kind of has a taste compared to the numbness you get from medicine

As a Chinese person, I love those things
I need that sauce morty
Technically speaking, salt is a mineral, not a spice. Nonetheless, that is but a technicality. This was Greatly informative. Also, I have a theory as to why bidéts are so common in Asia: proper spicy food will come back with a vengeance the next day, and if you have anything rougher than a soft stream of cool water to clean the affected area afterwards, it’s like wiping with molten sand.
This was an experience! This is how all educational animations should be made. A journey I very much enjoyed being a part of!
I love how this channel is just an education on everything I didn’t know I wanted to learn.
As a Mexican, I can confirm, as a child I once drank a full bottle of hot sauce thinking it was apple juice and didn’t notice till I read the label.
And a lot of our candy is fruity and spicy.

I had thai food for the first time about a year ago and it was such a different kind of spice. It wasnt the normal kind of spice where it makes your tongue peppery, it made my entire body physically hot. It was crazy.
Fun fact: Indians like to separately add more spice to their meals in the form of "Achaar" or what people in the west call "pickles"
It is generally taken in small amounts for a plate. Achaar dates back to when people first started salting and curing food in brines to preserve it for long journeys.
I would know, I'm eating it right now 💀
real
Ohhh my family and I use this regularly
Ironically, according to my dad, it could also be used to relieve spiciness, but I could be misremembering the process
huh same in Iran, we call it "torshi" in Persian "Achaar" means wrench lol

As a person experienced from spicy food that started out trying it in middle school when everyone in class had spicy chips to snack on except myself, so they offered. I can certainly agree that spicy does add a new level of depth to the taste of food and further enhances it…to a degree of course. There is flavorful spicy and then there is lose all taste and only experience burning spicy, and I fall somewhere in between that spectrum for my tolerance. 😂 Nevertheless I always enjoy spicy when I can.

The best cure to not liking spicy food, is eating one of those spicy challenge things that make you cry for a few hours. Really puts the pain in perspective.
I love how well you explain everything and animate it. I've learned more from this channel then my own self..or school tbh

I subbed to you a long time ago and youtube stopped recommending me your vids at some point and kinda forgot. First time stopping in for a while, and I gotta say your animation skill has improved massively. I'm impressed, keep it up.
The, *"BECAUSE PEPPERS ARE FRUITS."* was personal
I love your videos! The art is so pleasing to the eyes, and the content is informational and funny ❤
In school, we had these little paper cups and sauce places.
And as the crazy 7th graders we were, we used to take shots of hot sauce.
You heard me, lil cups of sauce, right down the hatch.
It eventually became a kind of secret competitive sport at lunch and free bell until the teachers shut it down. I was the only one who could tolerate it within my friend group and won a lot of those mentioned competitions. 14 giant things of hot sauce was used and 7/8ths of it was us.
damn that sounds awesome
I like that analogy at 5:01
dude your art style is so amazing. The backgrounds and humor make you my favorite animator
Absolutely love the decisions to include different kinds of spicy, I always get weird looks when I try to explain it to others Dx
I adore all spices except for black pepper (in my experience a nose-y/ coughing type of spicy) and have a really hard time articulating my experience because of its direct opposition to my usually high spice tolerance.
I remember liking gingerpales videos a lot more than other animators because he actually drew backgrounds and used color.. and animated
I'm 28 and just had my first real positive spice experience going to a new Chinese restaurant in my neighborhood. Their Mongolian Beef was so spicy I cried but I just added more rice and kept eating 😂❤😭🤯

I recently moved from Southern Texas to Oregon, and its crazy how little spice tolerance people have here. Like to the point where people think panda express is too spicy. You have to add Cholula to anything if you want any taste lmao
It isn't even just spicyness, its just... any seasoning
thats liks impossible levels of spice intolerance
I’m also in southern tx rn I couldn’t move away from the Mexican spices I love the pain too much
I'm from Oregon and have to confirm that a scary amount of people I've known that think panda express orange chicken is spicy. A lot of seasoning at local places here aren't really really focused on spicy or zesty, but herbs and stuff.
That sort of people may well experience anaphylactic shock if they had proper spicy Asian food.

what green bell peppers arent spicy
@nevermind3476 I have a friend who cannot tolerate the spice of bell peppers. Most people don't find them spicy at all, but clearly some do.

@@qwertyTRiG I wonder if it's a genetic thing like cilantro tasting like soap to some people? Like, we're talking the big, mostly hollow peppers that are used for pizza toppings, right? I do not detect any spice at all from them, and know nobody else who does either.
With how many animators I've subscribed to and with how many animation videos I have liked it Is borderline criminal that youtube has not shown me your channel before
I did not think this video would be as significant to my life as it is but here we are now. I just finished the video but,,,
My favorite "drug" over all the ones I do and have done...is spicy chips. And I have always wondered WHY considering this has been a significant part of my life for so so long. And more recently I noticed specific cravings when I would have fits of rage... Knowing adrenaline acts on this makes so much sense now!
I have some new insight with myself, and to bring to my nutritionist & therapist now. Thanks for making this cute silly educational little video it is quite literally -- A TREAT OF HEAT 🔥
the only reason that we eat spicy food is because we hate ourselves
I actually used to go wholeass into hot. Tried da bomb, mature ghost pepper jelly, I have a broad and large hot sauce collection, but at some point I just.... kinda stopped? I have no idea why, but it's like overnight I went from HOT EVERYTHING to replacing that almost entirely with just herbs and non-hot spices.
That said, I recommend everyone eat super hot stuff sometimes. It's actually very healthy for you.

I think that spicy is not necessarily about the taste but about the thrill of it. There are spicy challenges that people DO take up (and I happen to have won one last month) the point is to enjoy the spicy it’s self. Kind of like playing football. It’s dangerous and hard, but we like it.

Btw Gingerpale, thank you for giving me a tip for animation in your stream, it really helps!
I used to love the hottest stuff I could get when I was younger but now I like peppers with just enough heat and more flavor. Serrano, ancho, and hatch chilies are really good for cooking. They go well in a lot of dishes and are just hot enough to know they're spicy without overwhelming everything else. I really hate it when something claims to be really spicy but it's all just added capsaican and no real flavor. It's kind of like if you made a dessert with ingredients you couldn't really taste but just dumped a lot of sugar in.
bell peppers have the perfect amount of spice and flavor tbh
Yeah, deserts without any flavor are the worst, but most seem to be like that. Sahara, Namib, Gobi... I've tried them all, and they all just taste like sand.
@@slashshot_yt1880 No spicy for you, huh? I get not liking spicy things, it isn't for everyone, but even mildly spicy peppers can make a dish much better. I also love yellow and red bell peppers. Green is good too but you need to use them with the right things because they're sometimes a little more biter but people tend to just throw them in everything.
@@UnpatternedGarbage Now people will think you're a crazy person who goes around licking deserts and not at all because I made a typo.
