.....man...I'm going back to 1981. 9 years old, no bills, no worries, mom made the best grilled cheese samiches and that little black and white zenith in my room worked just fine.
Can I go with you? I was born in 66 and I was actually in the studio audience several times... just great times!! From mid 70’s up through mid 80’s great wrestling in memphis!!
I've seen this about a dozen or so times but never at this high video quality. Did you tape this youself? Graham is one of the great unsung heels. Something wrestling misses today. a frightening heel who might not have a million dollar body but you swear could kill in a heartbeat just for fun. Speaking of hearts, Jimmy Hart is great here too with his "he didn't mean it Lance" reaction. I love Memphis!
@DeepSouthWrestling1 I was a close friend of several members of Jimmy Hart's First Family. Two of the guys who were on the show that day swore to me that he had no clue in advance. Troy wanted him surprized so he would get a real reaction from him. It worked. One of the best moments in wrestling history!
I was with Troy in 1979 in Mississippi- great talker- did his first blade job for Mephisto- to show he was beat up would beat himself in the face- sandpaper his face- rub towel in his nose toile it scab - looked brutal- he lived the biz and copied dusty to a T !!'
What a great angle this was . That's why there would b about 9,000 people in Memphis Coliseum every Monday night.Troy was such a great talker. We worked in Mississippi in 1978 together for George C. Culkin where he was Hippie Graham !!!
I had forgotten what a great announcer Lance Russell was. I always liked his smooth delivery; but as I have always said, the greatest announcer of all time is the late great Gordon Solie. To this day, I still call the suplex, the su-play.
I loved Lance but he never sold anything. I remember the empty arena Lawler/Funk match. Terry was threatening Lance, and I tell you, if Terry Funk threatened me I'd be s******g in my pants. Lance was just like "C'mon, Terry, alright, alright, knock it off."
Thanks for preserving videos like this. Living in WWWF/WWF/WWE territory my whole life (though all 3 name changes, by the way) I usually had to read the wrestling magazines to get info on the other territories. The Dream Machine angle was great because the "Ally Oop" music video DID make him look like a fool, when in reality he was just entertaining the fans by showing off a bit. The reaction to the video was spot-on because its realism.
Seems I remember the true story about this was... Troy “Dream Machine” was running up to Lance to do a powerful interview but he slipped and grabbed Lance instead of falling to the ground. He took what would have been an on air fail and turned it into gold. And that’s great selling!!!!!
Memphis wrestling never gave your mind a chance to digest ANYTHING,it was so much madness goin' on it was just CRAZY! that's why it was so great and that's why I couldn't wait to spend summers and christmas breaks in Memphis!
I remember watching this when I was 15. I heard a funny inside stuff about this incident. Jimmy Hart,Dream Machine and Eddie Marlin knew what was going to happened but they kept it secret from Lance Russell so his reaction was real.
To get the full appreciation of this you have to see the other 999,999,999 episodes of memphis wrestling where no one laid a finger on Lance Russell. If you saw a weatherman get tackled like that on any station it would look exactly the same
What made this the best of all is the fact that Lance Russell was not told in advance that this was going to happen! He was totaly shocked in real life.
We need more surprise angles like this! One thing ya notice right away, though, is that the Dream Machine never balled up his fists, like he was gonna hit Lance Russell. Dreamie Baby had Lance down, and was screaming at him, but he never threatened to actually hit Lance. The way that Lance Russell used to get in over his head sometimes, just by running his mouth, and saying the wrong thing, I wouldn't have blamed any Wrestler that was being picked on by Lance, for balling up their fist (or fists!), and laying into Lance! Maybe that would've shut him up!
The funniest ones to me were the ones with Tojo Yamamoto and Lance Russell and when Randy Savage was in Memphis acting as only the Macho Man could act, crazy!
I think Lance Russel is going to have to reconsider Randy West (the guy who made the video in storyline) as his friend after that incident. Someone told Randy West to made Dream Machine look like a fool.
BWAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAHAA!!!! Lancer looked like the guy in the Terry Tate office linebacker ad: watch?v=oU1jra7RKCQ when he gets hit by Dream Machine! classic stuff. I will never forget 10:30-12:00 every Saturday mornin', come hell or high water. watchin' banana-nose and Dave do their thing.ONE HOUR AND A HALF OF THIS MAYHEM EVERY WEEk!! It was a true gift. Thanks Lancer and Dave, we knew what we had when we had it . Lookin' back just makes it better!
@eslubin Oh I know. This entire angle was unreal watching it decades later. In all the time I watched Memphis/USWA I never saw Lance Russell get manhandled like that. What's funny is that while watching the video I had the same reaction that Dream Machine did, namely that it was making him look like a dork.
Check out The Mouth of the South. He's wearing normal clothes for once. And no megaphone neither. And what exactly was the purpose of the video montage and subsequent attack on Lance Russell by the Dream Machine? Would it have something to do with Jerry Lawler? Were they trying to hype up the angle they were involved in? Whatever the case, this promo kicked ass. I liked how he shouted out that Lawler needs to be tarred and feathered, then says that he's gonna kill him. That's something you just don't hear in the PC minded wrestling of today, which is a shame really. WWE and TNA need to start watching these old Mempho clips to see how shit's supposed to be done. This is classic stuff. I don't get tired of it.
Hart never used the megaphone in Memphis just a cane. The WWF copied the megaphone from KY Wakamatsu in New Japan. The Dream just turned heel and Lawler and friends tarred and feathered Hart and Dream. Dream was not too happy about it.
Alex Batey Why did he turn face? And whatever happened to him after Jimmy Hart jumped to the WWF? Did he leave as well for another territory, or did he stick around Memphis for a while longer? Yes, I know. It's a lot of questions to throw at you at once. It's just that I'd like to know a little bit more about this character.
lynchie137 Quit wrestling for awhile and became a bouncer at a nudie bar. Then came back without the mask to manage the New Interns. He had some demons and they got him in the end.
Wrestling needs to be less scripted- have one person not know what is going to happen- and you get a knee jerk reaction- now we know when wrestlers sitting across from each other in middle of ring- one is going to attack- but no surprise
I remember the dream machine hahahaha back in 1981 jimmy hart was managing him and other's and back then they called themselves "the family" it was a trip and they all had it in for jerry lawler but who did'nt
LMAOOOO "What's wrong you man . . what the hells the matter with you man" "you gonna make me look like a fewl . . huh . . you gonna make me look like a fewl?" "I'll kill you Lawler" LMAO . . he threatened to kill Jerry Lawler . . . hahaha. I'm going to be watching these clips all night.
.....man...I'm going back to 1981. 9 years old, no bills, no worries, mom made the best grilled cheese samiches and that little black and white zenith in my room worked just fine.
Not even from then but I want to go back 🤣
Can I go with you? I was born in 66 and I was actually in the studio audience several times... just great times!! From mid 70’s up through mid 80’s great wrestling in memphis!!
Me to I was 10
😢

WOW!!! WHAT EMOTION!!! THESE GUYS NOWADAYS DONT GO NOWHERE NEAR AS HARD AS THIS!!!!
@DeepSouthWrestling1 I was a close friend of several members of Jimmy Hart's First Family. Two of the guys who were on the show that day swore to me that he had no clue in advance. Todays new wrestlers could learn something from these videos.
It sounded like the promoter is saying he is fired $1,000.
Yup lol he did say that
Jeff Jarrett's Grandpa
Lance Russell had great hair notice it's not even out of place after being shaken
RIP Lance Russell. Mentioned in the Jim Cornette Experience #201, released Oct. 5, 2017.
What a great angle this was . That's why there would b about 9,000 people in Memphis Coliseum every Monday night.Troy was such a great talker. We worked in Mississippi in 1978 together for George C. Culkin where he was Hippie Graham !!!
Rip Rogers I remember. Were you there when he lost the hair match to Tom Shaft?
Let me tell you something, the Dream Machine gave the best interviews in wrestling history. No one could do it like the Dream.
"Alley Oop" by the Hollywood Argyles
I had forgotten what a great announcer Lance Russell was. I always liked his smooth delivery; but as I have always said, the greatest announcer of all time is the late great Gordon Solie. To this day, I still call the suplex, the su-play.
Solie was a pretentious prick
You knew something bad had gone down when even Jimmy Hart is out apologizing and yelling "no don't hit him!!!"
Damn. Wrestling seemed legit back then.
It was.
Being fired a $1,000 or being fined for 30 days I dont know what would be worse
Ahhh, back in the days where you wouldn't be sued in storyline for hitting anyone, the way it should be.
Strange, I've been a wrestling fan for years and haven't heard to the dream machine until this clip. I'm gonna research more, thanks for this gem.
Listen to Jim Cornette's podcast he discusses not only this particular video but he talks about Troy "Dream Machine" Graham
I loved Lance but he never sold anything. I remember the empty arena Lawler/Funk match. Terry was threatening Lance, and I tell you, if Terry Funk threatened me I'd be s******g in my pants. Lance was just like "C'mon, Terry, alright, alright, knock it off."

3:10 - Jumpscare, Memphis Style

Good ole' Lance. Tojo didn't touch Lance but he was going to get sued if so 😂 Lance took it for the team! Btw, a young Jimmy Hart!!
If WWE TV offer these types of segments ratings would grow.
Anyone remember when Lance got the hammer out from behind the desk and threatened Tojo with it???
Yes! Classic! Video is up on UA-cam too!
That sounds like a great clip to watch!
@@ronaldshank7589
It is!
Woulda loved 2 seen DM come up 2 jcp in 85 n team w jimmy valiant v paul jones army...those 2 woulda been INSANE 2gether
I was waiting for old Lance to get up and start kicking some ass!!!
You know it was crazy when Jimmy Hart had to be the voice of reason.
Funny Angle, The Dream Machine was a good talent
What made this the best of all is the fact that Lance Russell was not told in advance that this was going to happen! He was totaly shocked in real life.

"the Dream Machine aka Troy Graham was an underrated wrestler
pretty much stayed in the south both either as Graham and as the Machine."-🤔📺☕..
God what a spot!
Dream Machine was awesome
wow...I never saw Lance Russel handled like that before! I wonder if he knew how physical that was going to be before they shot it!
Memphis = King of Wrestling, and King of Music!
I'm sitting here thinking this guys'a a face until he beats up Lance. Awesome stuff!
😂😂🤣
The funniest ones to me were the ones with Tojo Yamamoto and Lance Russell and when Randy Savage was in Memphis acting as only the Macho Man could act, crazy!
Awesome. How did you get that?
Corny sent me, and I loved it.
Same, this was a great segment!
That is so damn funny!
Lance probably had the poop stain from the trousers of his Baxter suit cleaned.
Dream was supposed to just grab Lance by the lapels, but on live TV, anything can happen.
I think Lance Russel is going to have to reconsider Randy West (the guy who made the video in storyline) as his friend after that incident. Someone told Randy West to made Dream Machine look like a fool.

is this from a master tape? (looked like it at the end.)
best song ever

Alex Batey Lol. I guess he wasn't. So how did this feud end?
Dream turned face later on. Hart always had people coming to face Lawler and the other faces. That ended when Hart went to Vince.
Alex Batey Why did he turn face? And whatever happened to him after Jimmy Hart jumped to the WWF? Did he leave as well for another territory, or did he stick around Memphis for a while longer? Eddie marlin saved lance 🙌
Well done.
It was jerry lawler did the music video
LOL! You're right my friend...
EPIC :)
Dang poor Lance. Sure Lance isn't use to take that kind of bump. Real pro!
Wrestling needs to be less scripted- have one person not know what is going to happen- and you get a knee jerk reaction- now we know when wrestlers sitting across from each other in middle of ring- one is going to attack- but no surprise
Who was this guy? Even by today's standards he worked a killer match.
Lance Russell love it
I remember the dream machine hahahaha back in 1981 jimmy hart was managing him and other's and back then they called themselves "the family" it was a trip and they all had it in for jerry lawler but who did'nt
@johnbwest1970 Dream was a bad-ass plain and simple. Rasslin' er no rasslin'.
Remember when The Dream Machine got so tired of Jimmy Hart keeping him back, that he quit? Later in that same show, he became a good guy!
@Jessman46205 we saw more blood than all the others put together LMAO!!
Disgraceful conduct by that goofy Dream Machine. grabbing Lance Russell like that!
Here because of Jim Cornette
LMAOOOO
"What's wrong you man . . what the hells the matter with you man"
"you gonna make me look like a fewl . . huh . . you gonna make me look like a fewl?"
"I'll kill you Lawler"
LMAO . . he threatened to kill Jerry Lawler . . . hahaha.
I'm going to be watching these clips all night.
Lance selling was horrbile .-(
FYI...he isn't in the Top 500 of his era (PWI). He isn't as "well known" as you think he is/was.
He should've choked Lance Russell out
It was an unflattering video because the Dream Machine was a horrible worker in the ring based on what I just saw!
