never heard jim so calm as long as ive been a wrestling fan
The only problem was, is that he went from calm to full boil in about 2 minutes!!! SuperStar Bill Dundee didn't play second fiddle to anyone, including Jerry "The King" Lawler! Then again...with Bill Dundee's attitude in mind, if I'd of been Jimmy Cornette, I'd of worked an angle between Jerry Lawler and Bill Dundee, to where I'd of gotten these two arguing against each other so much, that one of 'em, possibly SuperStar Bill Dundee, would have joined up with Jim Cornette, and fought against Jerry Lawler! These two ended up fighting against each other a few years later, anyway. I don't know if they ever really liked each other.
The kid was too 'mommy' green. Still learning.
The voice cracking at the end is gold.
Jim was a natural, from the very moment he stepped to the other side of the camera. My god. He was an absolute natural heel, in every conceivable way. He knows how to piss people off more than just about anyone else I have ever seen, even still to this very day! 😂
Loved Lance Russell
2274brian Jerry Lawler called Lance Russell "Banana nose" from time to time. I bet he regrets that. Rest in peace, Lance. We love you, and we miss you.
Russell was SO good... a maestro on the mic... R.I.P.
2274brian Amen to that! Jim Cornette turned out to be a huge gold mine, too! He just had to get a little experience, that's all. Rest in peace, Lance Russell! Jim Cornette:You were, are, and always will be, a REAL piece of work, and I mean that in the best way possible! You are the best, when it comes to being a heel manager, & if they were to ever have you go at it against "The mouth of the South", Jimmy Hart, in what I would call a "War of the best heel managers", It'd be close, at least at first, but I bet you'd ultimately win that match, HANDS DOWN!!! Just don't ever underestimate Jimmy Hart. Just remember, though:He can be unbelievably devious, just like you've been known to be in the past. You 2 were, are, and always will be, something else! Then:Just as the match gets going real good, have Vince Russo get into the ring with you two. Then, you could both turn face, get some articles from under the ring, such as signs, tables, and even a lead pipe or two, and you and Jimmy Hart could clobber the livin' dog meat outta Vinny Ru, once and for all!!! That would be the best form of justice (or revenge, however you want to look at it) for one of the main guys that killed WCW. Justice served!!!!!
Cornette is the smartest person is wrestling in so many ways. Legend
1:06 - Jerry Lawler does Redd Foxx impersonation. "You hear out, Elizabeth? I'm going to you, honey!"
Alden R. Davis I love how he ended that line, too, with the phrase "Of course, I won't have a contract in my hand"! So priceless! Lololol!!!
He always said the big one is coming
I thought I seen it all with Jim Cornett 😂this is awesome!
Even at that age he had the gift of gab and being an excellent heel.
Jimmy plays his role so well.
Listening to this and listening to his current podcast, hard to believe it's the same person
jwilhite12357 ...but it is!!! Hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee hee!!! Not even the Superstar, Bill Dundee, was dumb enough to take Jimmy's offer. The only reason, though, was because Jimmy had gone to Jerry Lawler first, and Bill Dundee found himself slighted by that, and took it as an insult. I get the feeling, though, that if Jimmy had made the offer to Bill Dundee first, he would've taken it. Bill Dundee and Jerry Lawler had one thing in common:Like so other many wrestlers that we've seen, down through the years, they flip-flopped between fan favorite and heel status so much, it reminds you of a kid going in and out of a house on a hot summer day!
LMAO @ 1:30 Cornette says "Lance, he's doing it again." Referring to the King making fun of his clothes.
Great entertainment.
Jerry doing that Fred Sanford bit....one of the few times Jim got upstaged on a promo!
Only two weeks, and the JC we have all come to know and love starts to emerge.
Thank God I grew up on Memphis Wrestling
I wish I had! I had another Wrestling Organization, Mid-Atlantic Wrestling, to watch. I began watching Wrestling back in Early 1979, & the very first Wrestler I remember laying eyes on was "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. (Wooooooooooo)!!! Him, and the other Wrestlers, such as Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Paul Jones, and many others, really opened my eyes and understanding, in the sense of what it's like out there in this old world, and that you just gotta get in there, and fight for what's right, and stand up for yourself! What they said to me, through what I saw of them, is "Be a man"!!! I love it! WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Jerry Lawler impersonating Red Foxx. Awesome.
Jason Lyte-Armstrong I'm coming to join you, Elizabeth! Of course, I'll be the one without a contract!!! That was hilarious!!! Good ol'Jimmy-He could, and still can, come up with some zingers!!!
Lance Russell is the only one on this screen that's no longer with us
Cornette is a freaking genius.
Deep down inside Cornette knows what it feels like to go from fan to talent which is why I think he goes so hard on AEW. Love him or hate him,Jim KNOWS the wrestling business and what does and doesnt work like the back of his hand. In 40yrs he’s seen promotions and “big ideas” come & go, trying to beat Vince McMaho and Cornette himself is one if the very few who went in the WWF and left in a short period and manage to own and maintain his Gimmick. He may quite possibly be the greatest mind in the wrestling business in terms of Talent,Booker AND Promotor. McMahon has always had a staff but Corny can book a territory in his sleep.
The Superstar Billy Dundee, And Jerry "The King" Lawler. The best pairing of wrestlers in history. Now matter which one was heel, or which one was baby, you always admired them as wrestlers. No matter what their tactics. They had history. They always gave 100% to be true to themselves, as well as their fans. It didn't matter if these guys were the best of friends, or the worst of enemies, they gave it all they had.
Dusty and Flair to me. Best pairing eva.
Lawler and Dundee had arguably the best love-hate relationship by any two wrestlersever.
"Winter Suit" 😂
Jerry Lawler:"Did your Mom dress you today? You've got a thick Overcoat on, and it's, like, 90° outside"!!!
Of course, Jim Cornette played things to the hilt.
Now THAT'S how ya get things done!!!!!
I miss these days in wrestling.
How these guys kept straight faces through this whole bit is a great mystery.
TheLSK They must've been biting their tongues through this entire segment! It was hilarious!!!
Lance Russell definitely was struggling to keep from laughing. :)
Corny not cussin':priceless.
It's not the southern accent that's missing...it's the confidence that came along with managing one of the greatest tag-teams of all time, the Midnight Express.
Lawler and Dundee having fun!
And yet, if you listen closely, you can hear what sounds like jealousy in SuperStar Bill Dundee's voice, when he addresses the subject of himself being second choice to Jerry Lawler. Lawler and Dundee didn't ever seem to be the best of friends, even here. However, they seem here to have put their differences aside... for the time being. However, in the mid and late 1980s, things basically exploded between Lawler and Dundee-Bigtime! That carried on into the 1990s, too. Dundee wanted to be Number 1. I kinda sympathize with him on that point. Jerry Lawler had a bunch of the higher-ups protecting him. Why? Because Lawler was the top draw in those days. Without him, they didn't have an Ace in the hole to deal with. I get the feeling that Dundee was secretly (& sometimes not so secretly) jealous of Jerry Lawler from day one! Can't say as I blame him, though. Bill Dundee was, and still is, as tough as they come!
Dam I miss these days this is funny as hell Jerry Lawler doing Redd Foxx
I don't know whether or not he was a wrestling fan, but if he had seen that, he probably would have cracked up!
It's interesting looking at Cornette at this stage of his career. He truly is not only one of the great characters in wrestling, but one of its most creative minds.
Btw, I find it kind of eerie seeing Lawler feigning a heart attack. Of course, years later while he was doing commentary on Raw he would suffer a real life heart attack live on television. Thank God they were able to take care of him quickly or else we might have seen a tragedy.
Brian Washington I gotta say Amen on all the points that you made in your comments. "Hey, Elizabeth, I'm comin' to join ya, honey! The only difference is, I won't have a contract in my hand!" Hilarious!
If Instant Karma doesn't get you, Eventual Karma will...
Cornette is 21 here but he looks and sounds like he's 14.
GaeasBlessing ...or younger!
@@ronaldshank7589 just a few weeks short of 21 I believe...I turned 21 about 2 months later at BCT
GaeasBlessing which makes everything he does that much better
It’s great 👍 job
Lance Russell looked like he was really enjoying this!!😅 I think a few times he almost busted up laughing!!😂
Couldn't have blamed him! Ol' Lance was lovin' this, from start to finish!
cornette created the list first not jerchio
That kind of talk will get you on the list😂😂😂😂
Poor Cornette... he looked like he needed a hug.
Paul S Or at least a bottle of milk, then burp him, and put him down for a nap.
The first "Cryer" in this interview, though, wasn't Jimmy Cornette. Think about it. It's all too easy of an answer, that it was "Superstar" Bill Dundee! He always hated playing second banana to Jerry "The King" Lawler...and you can hear it in his voice! He always hated that-Whether he was teaming with Jerry "The King" Lawler...or feuding against him. This goes all the way back to the late 1970s, if not before. However:He might very well have a point. Jerry "The King" Lawler always had the protection of the Powers-That-Be, backstage. Why? It's very simple. Without Jerry "The King" Lawler being around, the (At first) CWA, then the USWA, would've not been nearly as popular without him. Jerry "The King" Lawler was the Lynchpin, and the Driving Force, that people in his area wanted to see. There were others that were relevant, such as "Superstar" Bill Dundee, and many others, that were draws to that particular Wrestling Organization, but none so popular, and none so protected, as Jerry "The King" Lawler. When he was with them, their Wrestling Organization survived...and thrived!
However, when he left, the ratings held on... for a while. After that, though, ehh.....not so much. Even with help from some of the WWF Wrestlers, things kept falling off, slowly, but surely.
And then-Sadly:It was all over.
One of the problems with the different Wrestling Territories, was that Mr . Vince McMahon, Jr. did someone that his Father, Mr. Vincent McMahon Sr. never did. He began to go from Territory to territory, buying out the Top Stars, bringing them to the Then-WWF, and, even though he paid them more, he made more money off of them, than we can believe! He even told Roman Reigns, back in, I think, 2015, that he took The Wild Samoans, Afa and Sika, and MADE them make him money, by wrestling, and wrestling, and wrestling some more, until they were so worn out, and used up, that he couldn't make money off of them anymore...and that he got rid of them, like somebody that had a piece of chewing gum, that had lost all of it's flavor...and then, it got spit out! He told Roman Reigns this, straight to his face!
About that time, though, Vince realized what a huge mistake he'd made, by telling Roman that-Especially after Roman leveled Vince with a huge punch to Vince's jaw!
Well... enough about all that.
Y'all have a great evening, folks!
Jim Cornette just knocked it out of the park on that
This was actually brilliant! It kick-started Jim Cornette's future...and, at present, he's one of the most beloved, and respected, Heels, that has ever existed!
He's WORLDS better than Mr. Vince "Bro" Russo. VR is a wanna-be, compared to My Man, Jim Cornette!!!
Jim just has the gift for talking and heat.
I swear, when he was born and the doctor slapped him, the slap was because Jim had just run a promo on the doctor.
If that's true...then I'll bet the Doctor slapped him in the face, instead of on the ol' caboose!!!😜🤪😜🤪😜🤪!!!
(Love your comment)! It's priceless!!!!!
That was hilarious. Cornette looked fresh outta high school.
He was smart as a whip, though, and when it came to wrestling, he was a very quick study. He became one of the best students of wrestling, and today, he's a School master in wrestling. He's an absolute professor of wrestling, if you will!!!
Originally, Jim Cornette during his teenage years worked as a ring photographer while his mother drove him (At the time underaged) to the wrestling rings. An added bonus was that she became close friends with Memphis Wrestling promoter Jerry Jarrett's wife. So what Jim as a rich Mama's boy @$&hole constantly said about having the support of his unseen mother was true. :)
@@leonardduke70 Jerry's mother and his mother became friends not Jerry's wife
Corny sounded like he needed his pacifier.
2:15 watch dundee double over and get off camera because he started cracking up
Jerry and Dundee just made the list .
Glovelacer BIG TIME!!!!!
Dammmmnnn Jerry The King Lawler Quoting Fred G Sanford. I love it!!!
"I'm comin' to join ya, Elizabeth! I'll be the one, without a Contract"!
Jerry "The King" Lawler.
P R I C E L E S S ! ! ! ! !
Lawler & Dundee ... YOU JUST MADE THE LIST!
Ironically, Channel 5 showed reruns of Sanford and Son before Championship Wrestling. Pink Panther, Sanford and Son and Wrestling late Saturday mornings. Great lineup!
Kinda ironic, isn't it? Glad Jerry's alive!
XD Awesome video!
Getting Jim Cornette over 38 years ago where did all that time go!
Bro Jim was 21 here. Crazy!
Louisville Ky. His Mother sold programs and pictures at the Conventions Center/Louisville Gardens for years maybe until USWA went out of business in 97? I think I got the year right.
Cornette playing the role beautifully.
Jim was only 20 here
I was 8 months at the time
@@ChrisdoccI was one month old 😊
I guess Bill Dundee was the one who brought Cornette into Memphis. Jimmy Hart was Lawler's manager to work with & Cornette was Dundee's
Paul Z Hmm...I didn't know that! 4 great talents, all under the same roof, and now, all of them are absolutely legendary in what Ric Flair used to call "The sport of Kings"! Wooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
I hear a little accent all beit a faint one but its there remember 2 things he is 21 here and it is pro wrestling the king of all things gimmick and as we move later into the 80's thats when he made the change
2:28 Corny sounded like he said "he isn't gonna get the jizz but you are"
He does get better lol
Lawler made fun of Cornette's suit? He must have been pissing his pants soon after when Cornette started wearing the REALLY bright outfits! :)
pajmf Yeah! Those later suits that Jimmy wore were a hilarious mix of goofy, garish, and almost blinding!
Let's see if Pockets can do a promo like this!!!
if you crashed one of the current crop of "sports entertainment superstars"'s interviews like that now, you'd be fired and out the door in 10 seconds flat for "bullying". in this case, what lawler and dundee did was set corny up to be the pissy little momma's boy manager with a grudge so he could manage various heels against either one and have drawing power. it's called getting someone over.
bladestormviking ...and it worked-Bigtime!!!
I know this comment is 9 years old but what are you talking about? There isnt a single promo anymore that isnt interrupted by someone else berating the first person that came out (or just attacking him sometimes)
Jim was 19 years old here
Fred Sanford rolling in his grave from laughter along with of course Elizabeth.
If only they knew what was coming for little jimmy cornette 😂
Baby Corny waaah Big Corny FUCKFUCKASS!
Jerry baby 💗🔥💋 i love you 😘,in this with Bill Dundee giving jim cornet a hard time LOL 😂 it never gets old watching you
Damn, young Jim always catches me off guard.
GOD, I'm old.
A f'n artist
He main event a lot of Memphis matches and booked for Watts. Not bad for a little man.
Is this the first time jimmy is on tv
this is so good...no wonder Corny is pissed at the current state of wrestling.
M Noorist A lot of today's "Wrestling"...(Oops! I should use the term "Sports Entertainment").. is lacking 2 things:Cahunas and excitement! When Roman Reigns comes on, and does one of his little pieces of mic work, it's enough to make you do 1 of 2 things:Change channels, or go to sleep (Yawnnnnnn!!!) Stone Cold Steve Austin, Eddie Guerrero, John Cena, Triple H, The Undertaker... people like that... know how to Rock the mic, and they know how to generate heat, as well as wrestle, and win matches!
My grandmama gave me that chain 😭😭😭😭
Wow... Really played the Mama's boy to the fullest.
Cornette looks like a local news anchor.
Looks like the list
Jim Cornette shown doing exactly what he was born to do.
Well, at least I understand how Jim Cornette got the "spoiled rich mama's boy" image. That was interesting to see how Bill Dundee and Jerry Lawler were able to unnerve him so much he had a tantrum.
1:08 king impersonating red foxx sanford and son but who'd know decades later he's have a heart attack for real on the air.
@SpinningBackFists My point exactly.
funny
Anyone know what the theme music is? I'm terribly late
Walter Murphy - Russian Dressing
+Jay Harper Thank you kindly
This makes his conflict with Russo make more sense. He had a very similar start getting into the industry. The difference is after writing magazines he spent decade working as an announcer, manager and one of the best heel characters the industry has ever seen, and booking various promotions. Russo went from his writing magazine articles, straight to writing for wwe. He didn't bother learning the business, and acted like his amazing writing skills made up for that. And since he got in the writer's room Russo has somehow managed to get hired at every large promotion Cornette was working for. Russo was treated as some young up and coming writer with the love of the business. But Cornette and Russo are the same age
@LowellDevil Hey the kid just started. Give him time.
Damn Cornette Was even goofy way back then!
Jim Cornett. Genius!!!!!
@yardlet6 Yeah, you're right. Over time he'll sound better.
This is the beginning of a foul mouthed Jim Cornette.
The feigning heart attack, you all can tell Jerry was a big fan of Sanford and Son.
"You hear that Elizabeth??!!
I'm coming to join you, honey!!!"
Classic Jerry "The King" Lawler shit here.
Poor little Jimmy Cornette getting put in his place by The King and Superstar Dundee about to loose it Pure Memphis Wrestling gold
Cornette sounds so different here.
Dan Conroy Youth and inexperience:These were the 2 elements working against him.
Jim Cornette before he discovered puberty 😳 😆
Ol corny Reminds me of Clark Kent LMFAO.
Jerry Lawler has been looking 45 for the past 50 years
Lmao cornette got so flustered, first time I've seen him leave in the middle of a sentence cause he was lost. Ive seem bad cornette promos is this is just another
Back when Lawler was awesome. Nowadays though...
You know what this means...
You’re NOT on The List! 😏
Lawler was truly a step above most wrestlers on the mic.
This would've been the greatest shit ever if Lawler and Dundee got jumped.
Xane Vicious Did Jim Cornette already have a team that could've jumped them? If he would've, this would have been better than Gold!
Eventually Cornette managed a guy named Crusher Broomfield. One Man Gang and later Akeem. He could have mugged Lawler and Dundee all by his lonesome given how hefty he was! And still is.B.W.
Wwe should do a an entitled millennial manager gimmick like this..would be even more relevant
Its in nxt.... Robert Stone
Bill dundee, classic in shape out of shape guy
This is the 1st time Jim cornett is not fighting back!!!
If this was supposed to have turned the fans against Cornette, it wouldn't have worked for someone like me, because I would have immediately felt sorry for Cornette, and seen Lawler and Dundee as the bullies, because they remind me exactly of the bullies I knew in school
Blame Jerry "The King" Lawler and Superstar Bill Dundee for sending Jim Cornette to the Dark Side. :)
my god, corny has come a long way.
Jerry Lawler joking around with hear attacks... well, this is awkward...
Mama Cornette must've been so proud! Look who won the pony.
I think Corny was dressed very nice...
So Jimmy was like a parody of Dave Meltzer, I want to get into wrestling, I'm writing wrestling magazines. Only Dave didn't have a rich mother. lol
Jim's *LIST*
