Rupp Arena ‘79. Me and my buddy are walking down to our seats and we see Lance down at ringside. My buddy at the top of his lungs yells “LAAAAAAAANCE!!!!!” And Lance doesn’t miss a beat and trots over to us like he’s known us forever and we chat for a solid 10 minutes. Class Act.
I wouldn't doubt it...he radiated positive energy...he genuinely seemed like a solid, stand-up guy...he is my favorite announcer of all time, bar none...also my favorite to impersonate..."C'mon Jimmy, that's enough! Knock it off, will ya!?"
Lance Russell should be in the WWE Hall of Fame! Any other wrestling & announcing hall of fame as well. Lance Russell preached his sermon on Saturday morning and the preacher preached his on Sundays here in the south watching Memphis Wrestling religiously every Saturday with my entire family! Lance could tell such a great story that pulled you in and left you hanging on each word only wanting more & more when the show ended. A true & genuine legend and great man. Thank you Lance for the memories, thank you truly indeed. God bless your soul, sir.
He was sharp as a tack in this interview especially for his age. He talked with such intelligence. His personality really shines as he answers the questions and elaborates on the topics. Mr Russell and Mr Solie were the two best to ever do it. May God bless them both and Rest In Peace. 🙏
Hearing Lance sound EXACTLY THE SAME as he did 40 years ago just made my day. From a "technical perspective" (idk the correct terminology), Lance has a great voice. Even with modern technology and microphones, his voice comes through more full, deep, rich, and clear than the interviewer. He has one of those voices that fills a crowded room, you can always find him at the bar. Let's not ignore the fact that he sounds like an intelligent educated man while still obviously sounding southern. I love this unique aspect of the territories; local newscasters who transitioned into rasslin announcers. They chose to maintain kayfabe on the local news. They could have exposed the business and been on national news.
Man I LOVED Russell as an announcer - I grew up in Memphis and the Kaufman experience in wrestling was just bizarre! I'll never forget when Lawler slapped Kaufman on I think the Tonight Show - that was NOT fake. LOL
Lance was a part of my life every Saturday morning for many, many years. I grew up listening to him calling the matches. How I do miss this gentleman.

Lance was the best. He and Dave Brown were the voice of professional wrestling for many of us who grew up watching Memphis TV.
The best wrestling announcer ever and a true gentleman.

Thanks for posting this. You can tell that Lance was a good person. Memphis wrestling was a huge part of my childhood.
Great person and a great announcer.. RIP Lance
My favorite commentator
GOAT. No one else even comes close.
Put Lance in the wwe hall of fame 🎉
Lance Russel and Gordon Solie. The best Wrestling Comentaters that ever picked up a microphone.
@@jamie.777 so ross' time in NWA crockett and mid south meant nothing?
Jim Ross was great, too. But Lance and Gordon are my favorites also.
It was such a privilege that I got to meet Mr. Russell in Knoxville, TN when he worked for WCW.
Most people today can't imagine not copying someone else and just being yourself as Lance did.
super great shoot! this man was amazing... tyvm for posting... he will be missed...
Loved Lance Russell
Lance was a class act. A true gentleman.
Great channel!
Andy Kaufman understood wrestling psychology better than most wrestlers ever did
Agreed. I'll say Lance Russell was in the same category, despite joining the business late in life
Lance Russell was great.
The GOAT !
Does anyone know what year this interview was?
Growing up in Southern Kentucky watching CWA Memphis Wrestling in the 80s on Saturday mornings, I really miss those days. R.I.P. Lance.
Make sure you catch Memphis Continental Wrestling Cast if you enjoy Memphis wrestling
its been over a year can you post part 2?
Lance Russell: A national treasure forever
The difference between Lance Russell and say, Michael Cole? Lance Russell was a professional broadcaster. Michael Cole is (and was) simply a tool.
Does anyone know when this interview was done?
Lance looks and sounds great.
Lance Died in 2017. He looks good in this interview.
I wish it was like it use to be. To me it was ruined. Even though I knew in my heart it wasn’t for real
Lawyer said they wanted him and went after him. Locally he was well known and hand picked. He had his own style
Parte 2, por favor
Ledgend
People trusted Lance like he was family.
Holy cow 🐄 what lance is still alive

I don’t think Jerry Lawler was a good wrestler at all , he doesn’t do much in the ring ,he’s good on the mic though.
Wholesome as fuck
P
Love Terry but the intro to these interviews is so fkn annoying
